    Sweet breads!

On my way home, I saw a huge sign in front of La Perla Bakery that advertised: TAMALES! My reflexes stomped on the brakes and made a u-turn. Found parking in front of the bakery. :) This place is pan dulce heaven! Everything fresh on my visit! Walk up to the front counter grab a tray and tongs then have at it: pick and choose your pastries/breads/cake slices. Tamales were delicious! They only had 3 options: green chicken, red pork, cheese n jalapeño. Family loved them. Masa was flavorful and moist; the filling inside was the right amount. The tamales are on the spicy side except pork. Sat & Sun: Menudo available. Street parking only. Bring money: cash only!

Today 7/14 I purchased 2 doz tamales for $72 and went on vacation. The masa is not fully cooked the phone number is disconnected

I bought 2 doz tamales this morning $72 the mass is not fully cooked . I'm on vacation !!! Tried calling la perla bakery the number is disconnected no new number I'm really upset I'm freezing them and returning . Does anyone have the new phone number

    Cheese and jalapeño tamale

Today was my first and last time @ La Perla. Ordered 2 tamales. 1 cheese jalapeño. One red chicken. I circled the picture to show how little cheese was added. When I bit in them, the masa was undercooked and mushy with minimal ingredients inside. Threw them both out bc didn't wanna catch food poisoning with undercooked masa. Got the menudo. Had no flavor. Very little hominy. I had to add salt and hominy to the menudo once I got home. Yes, I added the hominy at home bc I'm Hispanic and hominy is in the cupboards. They only accept cash and Zelle. Their website says they accept card and apple play but that's incorrect. Neither La Perla nor the market next door have an ATM. Paid $23 for disappointment.

Best Rosca de Reyes north of the border.

For amazing pan dulce, champurrado, chicharrones and tamales... This is the place. Baked fresh throughout the day and into the evening, this bakery is a classic in Northeast LA. The best Rosca de Reyes outside of Mexico is made here. It is super moist, soft, sweet, and has a hint of rum. Yum yum yum. I've been coming here since the 90s, and it's been consistently good. The prices have risen, but what do you expect from any business doing business in the least business-friendly and most-taxed city? And yet, this small family run operation is holding fast and producing delicious mexican baked pastries. Conchas, cuernos, ojos de buey, empanadas, campechanas, donas, bollilos, teleras, galletas y mas! If you live around here, then you know. If you don't, now you know. And as far as those reviews showing moldy bread... ask yourself when have you ever known fresh bread to mold? If you take it home and forget about it for a week or longer, you will get mold. That is not any bakery's fault.. It's yours. Eat it while it's fresh or even better while it's still hot.

    Comfort food!!

Classic Mexican bakery with pan dulce, tamales and other savory items. Tamales were really fresh, nicely filled and not dry. Good balance of masa to filling ratio. Also, the masa is pretty tasty as well. Cheese tamale: had a good amount of cheese, jalapeno slice and a spicy yet not too hot red chili. A very well balanced tamale. Chicken tamale: tender juicy chicken with a spicy salsa verde. This one had a bit of heat but in a good way. Can definitely eat 3 in one sitting. Pork tamale: tender pork with flavorful red chili. You won't be disappointed. Pan dulce was fresh and soft no issues at all. This was my second time patronizing this business will definitely be back!

Staff us so friendly , came herenfor pan dulce and some tamales. Parking was a little tricky but you can get by. There isn't may people eating inside. Most people take it to go. It's cash only or zelle , so bring that cashhhh! Totally worth it

Rosca de Reyes this was their small!

This is my family's 3rd year of getting our Rosca de Reyes here and it never disappoints! I think its my favorite Rosca Ive ever had! The pan is also delicious :) Anyone that has ever helped us has been super sweet as well. Small classic panadería :)

After watching a feature on this place on a Spanish language news cast, I decided to join the masses to buy a coveted rosca. Waited in line (I anticipated this much), and it was worth the wait. I'm not a huge rosca fan, but this one was good! A little sticky, a lot sweet and very fresh. On the pricey side..the small one was $30; the large $60. The spot is teeny- they sell pan dulce and tamales in addition to what seems like other hot food dishes on the weekends. Cash or zelle only, and the parking sucks since it's street parking on a busy residential street. I tried the tamales, and they were good.

Perfect double chip chocolate chip cookie!…read more I get why these cookies are so hyped up- perfectly gooey in the middle, not all the way fully baked in the middle, the chocolate chips were melty - I know people do "cheese pulls" but you can honestly do "chocolate pulls" with these cookies. It's relatively busy but the line moved swiftly. The Larchmont store was pretty lively with the crowded and colorful wall deco! It's pretty fun to see that they came up with more seasonal items lately and most of them nailed it well when they came to cookies. Previously the lemon one and the most recent was the Raspberry Pistachio which I was impressed by as I just fancied sweet and refreshing combo of white chocolate and raspberry. The pistachio added more texture to it for sure. Same as any Levain cookies, best enjoyed warm and fresh out of oven. The Cookie Milk Latte was actually the main reason bringing me here, yet I was bit let down by it as I was expecting more malty cookie flavor in the drink. I felt it tasted not much different to regular cream top latte with some cookie crumbles in it.

Delicious drinks and creative pastries!…read more Tried Fondry LA and the matcha vanilla pistachio drink was definitely the highlight--so delicious and perfectly sweet without needing any sweetness adjustment. Easily my favorite thing I tried! The tofu cream croissant toast was airy and light, with a creamy topping that wasn't overly sweet. The mushroom béchamel was savory and good. I only got it because my brother suggested it. Normally I would not seek mushroom pastries even though I like mushrooms. The yuzu meringue croiffin was good, but I am not used to tart flavors in croissant/pastry combination. The cafe is very tiny, with only one table for seating, so it's more of a grab-and-go spot. There are seats outside. I also wanted to try the black sesame pastry, but didn't see it available when I visited. I'd definitely go back to try it. The drink was the standout for me!

The key is to go on a weekday to avoid the line, as the weekend can definitely get busy. This last time I finally got to try the tofu cream topped croissant, which was ~to die for~. It was a little bit savory with the miso but still (not too) sweet. This felt super original and I would definitely recommend. I also tried the pistachio croissant and asparagus danish this time round and both were extremely good as well. I would have no qualms with re-ordering either. The only note is the pistachio cream is pretty runny, so it's hard to cut and share, as the cream just oozes out. The workers there are super friendly and kind. The drinks are also very good if you're looking to get a little extra treat as well.

Recently, they even started selling butter tteok, and I heard it was one of the first places to have it in K-town. I highly recommend the salted bread. Honestly, I think it's even better than the famous spot everyone talks about. My favorite is the corn cheese, it's especially delicious when it's warm. I also tried the Korean chamoe (melon) smoothie, and it was very refreshing. It tasted like they used real melon, since there was a slight natural tanginess that made it even better.
