Chips and cheese with NO cheese past the top layer

Aww man! What happened to the old la Paz where you'd get a good deal for your money. Today got my order to go. got a tostada that was the of a kids version and cheese and chips with no cheese past the top layer (see pic). I've had better experiences dining in.

Loooove this place. I had to cater lunch for a work event and the food and the service was so great. It was very easy to order over the phone and they prepared the food so well, and even helped me carry it to my car. The tacos were great but the real star was the rice, beans and salsa. I'd definitely come again to eat at the actual restaurant.

So happy La Paz has reopened in late Jan 2026 after the unfortunate accident of car crashing thru restaurant in late Sept 2025 I love this family owned restaurant The food is wonderful Mexican home style food with friendly service Please support this local small business which is part of our community They have weekday and happy hour specials and free parking lot

Cutting to the Chase: you are looking for a burrito, excellent salsa and a pleasant atmosphere, this is the place. From my understanding it has been around for over 40 years, and I can understand why. A truly good Asada burrito, surprisingly excellent salsa (just the right amount of heat). The ambience is storefront order up Mexican restaurant but it's elevated by the spacious booths and large tables. There is a larger dining room to the rear. Service behind the counter was very friendly which really made a nice experience. Though I did not have any, they did have Mexican beer on tap so I'm looking forward to a return visit. Portions are on a larger size and the burrito was easily shared with my dining partner. The Horchata was also very good, not too sweet which is the crutch of mediocre preparation. If you are in El Segundo this place is a go!

Thursday $9.99 special-chicken taco, ground beef enchilada, beans, rice-free chips, salsa Good tasty portion for bargain price-Sept 2025

Wonderful family run Mexican food restaurant in El Segundo-great food, friendly people Tried it for daily weekday special -Thursday $9.99 enchilada and taco, rice and beans. Was very tasty homemade style Mexican comfort food. Good portion for the low price Plus-Free parking lot in front in small shopping center area

    #1 on the menu!!

Love it. Great food and great lunch special process. Free chips and salsa. Pay at the front counter

Miss having lunch or dinner at La Paz, since the accident that closed La Paz. Will you be opening again.

Looking forward for them to reopen. In our opinion they are the best Mexican in all south Bay.

Carnitas Guadalajara. my all time favorite place for this special plate.

my go to spot for the best carnitas. I love the best! I frequented La Paz every few weeks throughout the 90's up to 2004 when they moved from the Main street location to this location. I lost track of them after they moved. I thought they closed. I left the state in 2008 and recently while staying at a hotel nearby I saw them online. I was so happy, I had to go. when I walked in they were all the same employees even the cook. I ordered my go to dish Carnitas Guadalajara. its served with rice, beans and a side of corn tortilas. The best I have eaten anywhere in my travels. it was as good as the last time I had this great dish at the old location. so good I came the next day for Lunch and ordered the same dish just to make sure I wasnt dreaming. No Dream , just the best mexican food in the area. Fantastic! I cant wait to come again when in town. ill make it a must stop spot! Gracias!

Works from this place because it is ridiculous This is what we got from them. Nothing... Ridiculously unexpectable poor service

As for the food/drinks, the happy hour was such a great deal. We got to try the mushroom choriqueso (which was our favorite item), Al Pastor tacos, taquitos, shrimp ceviche and two Mercado margaritas. All of this for about $70! Everything tasted great and came out super quick too. Service was absolutely amazing. Everyone's always checking up on you, making sure you're doing okay and there was never a time we were waiting on anything too long. What makes it worse is that this is not our first time with Mercado. We've been fans since the original location near The Grove and have been coming to this South Bay location for a while. We used to order takeout and dined in regularly and in the past the experience was much better. Unfortunately, that is clearly no longer the case. The service was atrocious from start to finish. We waited far too long for everything, including drinks. A single Tecate took about 30 minutes to arrive, which set the tone for the rest of the night. Nobody checked on us, nobody seemed attentive and we spent way too much of the evening just sitting there waiting. The food was equally bad. The carnitas nachos came out cold. The steak taco was rubbery. The fish tacos were incredibly dry. The birthday fajitas were also dry and underwhelming. For a place at this price point, there is really no excuse for food coming out like this. The overall atmosphere also felt off. What used to feel lively and welcoming now felt neglected and poorly managed. It was especially frustrating because this was supposed to be a birthday dinner and instead it turned into a long, overpriced, disappointing experience. It genuinely breaks my heart to write this because we have a long history with Mercado, but after this visit, we're done. There are too many better options in the South Bay to spend this kind of money on bad food, bad service and an overall miserable experience.

We were staying near LAX and I didn't want to drive too far, so we stumbled upon this Mexican spot in the cutest little downtown area ever. El Segundo, you are THAT b*tch! We arrived around 5:30 on a Saturday and were seated immediately (thank goodness). Our server was super duper friendly and even had multiple conversations with us throughout the meal, sharing anecdotes and talking to my tattoo artist friend about getting a tat from her LOL. We quickly ordered some chips and queso (not free) and were blown away by how creamy and tasty the queso was. The tortas were also delicious and easy to scoop a lot of cheese on to. On to the menu, they had a good variety of Mexican dishes, but the price point, man. I thought $4-5 a taco at Barrio Queen in Arizona was steep, but this place charged $7-8 for a single small taco. I would've been okay with any menu item since it's Mexican and nothing under that cuisine could be bad, but seeing each enchilada over $30, made me steer clear of the main entree dishes. I also knew I wanted to try fish tacos, so I just opted for one fish taco and one grilled taco, with a side of mashed black beans. Crazy that some black beans also were at least $5. The fish taco was nicely battered and the guacamole was ripe and creamy, but the grilled chicken taco was nothing spectacular. There was also cauliflower tacos and beef brisket tacos ordered among us. My friend who ordered the beef brisket taco rated it 7.5/10, whereas the cauliflower tacos were rated 9/10. The food also took at least 20 minutes to arrive at the table. Both sauces my tacos came with were extremely spicy so I didn't even touch those. My friends enjoyed their meals, and the side of green rice two of them got was rather tasty. Overall, our server was the best part of the experience. She really ate DOWN, whereas our food and the price point did not.

So like yesterday, I decided to stop by and grab a burrito, but unfortunately, this will be the last time. I usually visit this location with my dad. He's been coming to this location since before I was born and I'm damn near 40. But this time I came alone and the place was packed. They don't have a big seating area. It's like a bar with about four seats to the right and four seat seats to the left so it doesn't accommodate many people, so people order to go. And that was my plan. I walk in and the server (with his chef at and money taped to it) and I grab the same menu. He allows me to have it, and he grabs another and gives it to one of the customers. I say all this to say that he definitely knows exactly when I arrived. However, A white man walks up less than a minute later and for some reason he decides to ask him if he ready to order, as if I'm invisible. This was the second time that this happened to me today and God knows how many times has happened to me in life. So at some point, I just have to stop ignoring the fact that Black people aren't welcome in certain spaces. Maybe we are by law, but not at all met with respect! That is all!

The ambiance was great and it was a really nice spot in front of the Pier. We sat outside since it was good weather, I didn't account for the afternoon chill though once the sunset. Good thing to keep in mind when choosing outside or inside. The inside was really pretty (saw this on my way to the restroom later) so I wish I would have chosen to sit inside. Now for the food, this was really the only let down. The guacamole and chips were started with was okay, slightly bland in flavor. I got the fish tacos, my husband got the Chipotle Pollo y Hongos (listed as a house specialty), got a taco and nacho plate for my kids off the kids menu. The rice was like a green rice, super bland and dry and this came on both of the adult plates. The red rice that came with the kids food was actually better. The refried beans tasted like something that came out of a can, dry as heck and again, bland. Fish tacos were meh, fish was fishy and the slaw it comes with did not have the flavor I am usually looking for when I think fish tacos. My husband's chicken was yummy, and I wished I had gotten that instead. Only con was the dry rice and beans it comes paired with. Maybe my biggest gripe was the food not tasting authentic at all, and this Mexican girl loves her Mexican food, or maybe I just got the wrong plates. In my experience, if the basics are wrong (rice and beans) the rest has little hope. However, I must say that Dessert was amazing, I got some kind of yummy ice cream (maybe the Helado Frito?) to blow out my birthday candle. It was the silver lining for sure :) Service was great, and they were very accommodating. I felt bad telling them I hated the food but I wanted to write an honest review for those, like myself, who rely on reviews when choosing a good dinner spot.
