A great place in Cancun if you want some authentic Mexican food. It's slightly outside the hotel zone, in the downtown area but I'd recommend you make that trip. A couple of dishes I would absolutely insist that you try 1. Cochinita Pibil - I still can't get over how dilicious this was. Everything was perfect. At the end of the meal, I drank all the broth from the plate 2. Al Pastor taco - very different than the stuff we get in the US. The meat has nice burnt edges and wasn't watery like the stuff over here. This place is also super lively thanks to the Mariachi band that comes around playing their stuff. I've fallen in love with the song Mariachi Loco. Please Google it and give it a listen; you'll see why. One of the best meals and drinks we've had in Cancun. The restaurant and staff are awesome. The food was even better. The steak in our steak quesadillas had more flavor and was melt in your mouth good compared to the high end steak place we ate last night. The Mayan fajitas were amazing. Some of the best we've ever had and we eat a lot of fajitas. Next time I'll try the steak fajitas. Both margaritas were right on point with taste and liquor. Open Christmas Day with a traditional Turkey, mashed potato's if you want it. Prices aren't as expensive as in the hotel zone but aren't on the cheap end either. Fun atmosphere, drinks come out balancing on the servers head. Lots of dishes come out in huge pots. Servings are large. I loved the Al pastor, a bit Smokey if you like that. I'd salty too. We we're looking for an authentic Mexican restaurant experience to have for dinner. La Parilla certainly hit the spot when it comes to authentic Mexican cuisine. Not only was the food delicious, the entertainment was equally amazing. Grilled Pulpo (octopus): this is one of my favorite meals. I really enjoyed the grilled flavor of the octopus tentacles. There was a sense of buttery goodness to the sauce where the octopus was laid. I couldn't believe how flavorful the potatoes were swimming in the paprika butter. I'll always remember the taste of those potatoes against the grilled octopus. Caesar Salad: Wow! I had no idea that it was going to be prepared table side. The dressing was so fresh and creamy. They used two raw egg yolks, salt and pepper, olive oil, canned anchovies, and Parmesan cheese. Once the dressing is properly mixed, the server paints each romaine leaf with and even amount of dressing. It was so tasty! Only recommendation is to put less mustard and then you're good to go. Overall, I think this restaurant is a great stop for your first meal in Cancun. This isn't your typical Michelin star restaurant but it does have the feel of a family vibe. Set in the neighborhood of Cancun, the restaurant definitely caters tourists. The restaurant staff's energy is on another level! It definitely felt like a Fiesta from the minute we walked in to the the last bite of our meal. Not going to lie, it's a little intimidating at first when where are so many people trying to sell you things while you are dining. Personally, I prefer to focus on the meal and entertainment instead of being asked to buy random stuff every few minutes. Merchants and mariachi bands will just come in and out of the restaurant and swarm each customer's table. Such an awesome restaurant in Cancun! We arrived as a group for taco tasting and tequila tasting ... Our table was already reserved for us and we were immediately being seated as we arrived. Tasted 4 different tacos and 4 different tequilas. All of them were delicious! Personally, I like less spicy foods, so thankfully one of the salsas was mild enough for my taste buds, so I could enjoyed the tacos. As we learned, the meat is always prepared with no spices, the sauce/salsas are the absolute most important for making your Mexican dish spicy or mild or whatever you desire! We have been advised to try all but be very cautious with one because that one specific salsa will easily make your mouth burn and make you feel like you want to leave your body, lol ... Guacamole was super delicious! I wish we can have that here in the states! Tequila is very popular so we had a tasting of them! They have pretty good Tequila here! Sorry, I can't remember the names! We also had a Margarita ( either a small glass, a medium size or a giant one) I chose the medium sized Margarita! (Check the pictures/videos I posted here for the actual action on how they serve the drinks!) Pretty impressive! Congrats to the waiter for his talent for serving the Margarita! Full service restaurant with delicious food and attentive staff. Our waiter brought our drinks out stacked on top of his head which is a talent in itself. He later brought out ~12 drinks on trays also stacked on his head for another table, truly a feat. They start you off with chips and salsa and have a nice sized menu. Husband had the tacos which were a very good portion coming with 3 tortillas and beans. Also had a side of fries and I ordered the Sopa Azteca which is basically a tortilla soup. The soup came with avocado and tortillas on top but none of the fixings like cabbage or radish, was delicious nonetheless. The table next to us had molcajetes that looks delicious and they also did a table side flambeéd dessert. It looked so good! It's a quick walk from Mercado 28 if you want a more enclosed sit down restaurant with a little more flair. They had someone walking around with sombreros for you to take pictures. We ate here on a night stay in Cancun. We have eaten at their other locations before and enjoyed their food. We got right in and was seated at a table. Restaurant was about half full. No one came by for about 15 minutes to get our order. Finally had to get the hostess involved after others who were seated after us got their drinks. We finally ordered drinks and decided to order our meal. They have a mariachi band that plays very loudly that we found annoying. Our drinks made it followed by our food. I had the combo fajitas with rice and beans. The fajitas which was chicken, steak, and shrimp was very good. My wife got the chicken burrito with extra cheese. Came here to get Mexican food, which is hard to find in Zona Hotelera. Big menu, very helpful staff. Portions are very generous, especially compared to resort restaurants. Food was good but salty. The meats in our tacos and burritos were pretty salty, even for us, who are used to restaurant levels of salt. Some other surprises - burrito only has meat in it so I added lettuce and tomato from the "salad" that came with it (it didn't have dressing so maybe you can add it to the burrito?) The taco we mistook for a single taco, but it's really enough meat and tortillas for 4 street sized tacos. Fun atmosphere with live mariachi band, even early in the evening like 6pm. They bring your margaritas by balancing it on their heads. So still a fun experience and glad we came. read more

If you're staying in the Hotel Zone, finding an authentic Mexican restaurant is hard to come by. Yes, that might be hard to believe but there are nothing but foreign restaurants in the Hotel Zone! I'm not sure if that's because they think tourists love familiarity but if I'm in Mexico, I'm looking for Mexican food! We were told to come here from multiple locals we talked to and I'm so glad we did! First off, the ambiance here is second-to-none. There's a live mariachi band for dinner and the decor is unique, traditional and vibrant. If you want a song played in front of your table, they ask for $5 USD per song. The service is good. If you order a margarita, they balance it on their heads and walk to your tables where you have to literally take it off their heads! Ha! For starters, they give you house chips and salsa. We also ordered guacamole which I thought was just alright. As far as the food goes, I opted for the poc chuc pork tenderloin which comes with fresh corn tortillas, salsa and beans. This was my first time having poc chuc but I'm a fan! The slice of pork tenderloin was grilled well and you kinda have to get your hands dirty and make your own tacos with the corn tortillas, beans red onions that are provided. I liked the salsa that came with it; it had the perfect kick. La Parrilla is a great spot if you want traditional Mexican food. The ambiance is great and the food is delicious.
