[ During Covid Review ] Came here for breakfast with a friend and we arrived at 8:50am, 10 minutes before opening and there was already a line. Because of covid, they do not allow indoor seating; however, they opened their back patio up for breakfast/brunch. To enter, you have to enter through the alleyway which is really narrow and sometimes a bit cramped. Before you get to sit in the back patio, you have to wait in line to order. After they take your order, you can head to the back and pick where you want to sit. My friend and I decided to sit near the back where the trees were and we ended up having a very friendly curious squirrel always coming by to visit us. Now for the good stuff...the food: -Pain Perdu Au Chocolat : A pressed pain de mie french toast filled with chocolate hazelnut spread, sprinkled with powdered sugar. Honestly, this dish can fill you up pretty fast that I assure that there will be leftovers. The chocolate was ozzing from the toast and oh my goodness, melted in your mouth (10/10) - Cote Ouest : Three egg omelet with ratatouille, served with home fries and your choice of toast. The egg omelet was nice and fluffy that when you cut it into pieces, you can see the nice layers from the three eggs. The ratatouille was okay, but a bit messy and honestly a little too watery in my opinion. (8/10) The service here was good, quick and speedy along with the food. I would say that while we were eating, it did get pretty cold and we asked if we could get the heater (they have out door heaters) turned on, they said they weren't able to. However, 10 minutes later they started turning on a heater for another table, but left us cold. That would be my only complaint about our breakfast there that day. Be prepared to wait! The line definitely gets long and it gets busy. My party of 4 arrived at around 10:30 Am and didn't get get a table until around 11:30. We just walked around the Berkeley campus during the hour. La Note is a nice brunch spot. I love the outdoor seating area in the back. It's very lovely and pleasant when the weather is nice! I ordered the Oatmeal Raspberry Pancake (single). The pancake was surprisingly fluffy for an "oatmeal pancake". The raspberry flavor of the swirl on top was great for someone like me who doesn't like super sweet breakfasts. The single (one) pancake was enough to fill me up, but most people get the stack. My party also got a latte and the Corte nord - the latte was unique and came out in a bowl! And the Corte Nord included two lightly scrambled eggs with cream cheese (goat cheese can be added) over some levain bread along with side of home fries and tomatoe. The bite I got of this open faced sandwich was delicious! The egg with the cream cheese is really simple, but I appreciate the overall creaminess. I enjoyed dining at La Note. This restaurant is super cute inside and out. The seating is definitely the ideal brunch vibes and the decor and everything was also really cute. Be ready to wait a while because this is a pretty popular spot so it gets very packed. Given how packed it was I think the service was really good. The waitresses were very attentive and in a timely fashion were able to take our order and bring it out. I got the tartine mistral which was a French baguette with goat cheese and roasted red peppers and basil on top. This was super yummy and the balance of the flavors worked really well together. A local's favorite for authentic French fare! The sheer number of photos show how many separate times I've been back. The interior ambiance is intimate and homey. There's seating inside the restaurant and also in the back patio, which is lovely for spring days. My favorite start to the meal is with their bread basket. Reasonably priced ($10) and overflowing with different baked goods and jams, it's almost a light meal in and of itself. The baguette is one of my favorites: buttery and delicious. I usually order the omelette au fromage, with a side of homefries and roasted tomatoes. The omelette is fluffy, light, and creamy with the emmenthal cheese inside. The homefries are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The acidity of the juicy tomatoes perfectly cuts through the richness of the omelette. The lemon gingerbread pancakes with poached pears are a little on the sweet side, but nonetheless a delicious bite. The poached pears bring down the thickness of the pancakes with a light acidity. Service has always been friendly and fast in the many times I've been here. I look forward to returning to one of my favorite brunch spots in Berkeley! read more

A breakfast joint in Berkeley that was recommended to me from some friends. I heard it's a popular spot, so it was nice getting to try this place out. We came here on a Saturday morning, and surprisingly we didn't have to wait too long! When you walk inside, it's pretty cramped, but it also has a nice, rustic/modern feel to it as well. We sat at our table and we were greeted by our server who had a very welcoming personality. And he made no hesitation to talk with us about the menu too. For the food, we ended up getting the Cote Ouest which is like this ratatouille omelette, their infamous creme fraiche pancakes, and their brioche pancakes. I thought everything was good, and I thought the food was pretty standard for what it was. For their pancakes, I personally really wanted to enjoy it more, but at the end of the day, it kinda just tasted like normal pancakes to me. But nonetheless, everything was still good. Overall, I'm glad I got to try this place out. I thought the service was nice and the food was good. This is such a cute restaurant! The waitress was super friendly and gave us her opinion on what were her favorite dishes. We ended up getting: Cote Nord with goat cheese and tomato instead of toast 5/5- the goat cheese added a notch up on the flavor. Cote Sud 4/5 idk what type meat they use for the sausage but it tasted a little gamely not what I expected! French toast 3/5 I think they added rosemary on it and it threw the flavor of what french toast should taste like off for me but if it wasn't for that, it's a nice thick slice of french toast that wasn't overly sweet. I love this place and yes it's worth the wait! Put your name on the list and then go mosey around on Shattuck for shops and stops to your liking I recently went to La Note on a rainy December day and had an hour wait so my best friend and I went and grabbed a beer at Jupiter ( and maybe some beer cheese fondue too ) I found the waitlist feature convenient so we knew how much time we had. Once we got in, the restaurant was getting ready to close in a half an hour. Our waitress didn't ever make us feel rushed and we ordered our drinks and meals and just loved every bit of it. The ambience, the noise volume ( just loud enough to have a private conversation in a public place) the service and our food. She had the Cote Est ( 2 scrambled eggs, 1 pancake with bacon) and I had the Cote Nord ( 2 lightly scrambled eggs with cream cheese with levain bread, with home fries and tomatoes . Terrible experience beginning to end. Our server barely gave us the time of day when asking for our order while she was actively checking on the 3 tables next to us (who were white by the way). Never got a coffee refill even though she would walk around with the pot to refill others mugs. And to top it all off, our food got brought out to the table next to us by accident. Our server noticed they had the wrong food, grabbed the plates (they had been at this table for a couple minutes now) and GAVE US THE PLATES. No acknowledgment, no remake, just gave us plates that were just at another table and left. How is that in any way hygienic or acceptable for any place, let alone a place that is supposed to be nice? This is my new favorite restaurant for brunch! Holy moly my mind was blown! I found La Note on Yelp, and immediately said let's go! We arrived and noticed there were a lot of people sitting outside waiting so we anticipated the wait might be long, and we were down! Also we visited Feb 20th which is Presidents Day! As we checked in with the hostess she said it would be 45 - to an hour. We said ok and put our name down. Love that they have the texting capability, it allowed for us to take a walk and explore. We grabbed coffee at a shop a block or two away, and then visited the book shop next door. We did wait a full hour, however it was worth it!!! We left the option open for indoor or outdoor-- first available! It was a beautiful day outside and we for sure had the best table outside right next to one of the trees. It was perfect and the sun felt amazing! Miguel was our server and he was fantastic! -Superb menu recommendations! - Great service it was really busy, and he continued to check in with us. He was attentive and efficient. We shared the French toast ( La Note Pain Perdue) and it was the best we've ever had! We were so hungry I forgot to take photos, however I had my first bite of French toast and was like wow this is sent from heaven-- gotta capture this. The butter was also amazing! I love the sweet/savory combo plates that they offer on the menu. Their eggs are perfect scrambled and soft, crispy bacon, and the gingerbread lemon pancakes are to die for.
