We came here for the paella and were disappointed. The flavors were fine and the seafood was plentiful. However, the rice was undercooked and hard... not crunchy but hard. It made the experience much less enjoyable. We had some other dishes all of which were good. We had no reservations but they sat us and just asked that we were done by a certain time. We arrived at 7:30pm, exactly when it opened for dinner. We did not have a reservation. However, they have a small dining room in the back (four tables) and were able to seat us immediately. We eventually came to realize that this was the room where they sat all the Americans. The staff were friendly and helpful. Upon being seated, we were provided a basket of baked bread loaves and some olive oil for dipping. The olive oil was very high quality. We also ordered a house white wine and house red wine. Both were good to drink with a meal. They have a large selection and variety of dishes on their menu including many tapas options, full dinner options, and even many vegetarian options. Our favorite dish was the chupa chups (fried goat cheese balls served on top of a sweet tomato marmalade). We also ordered the tempura fried cod. It was served on top of mashed potatoes and topped with tempura fried asparagus. The cod was nice, but overly salted. Finally, we ordered the seafood paella. It was good, but not great. We found it to be average in taste. However it did have a lot of seafood in it, including four very large prawns. The server did communicate to us that they're known for their meat dishes, not their seafood, so we were not surprised when the seafood dishes were only ok. Overall, we had a nice dinner. On our first full day in Madrid, we ate dinner at La Mi Venta, a meat-oriented restaurant near to the royal palace. The restaurant is at the end of a quiet street with attractive outdoor tables where we sat. The menu is broad, with a focus on high quality beef and pork, including several great pork dishes. Service was helpful, friendly and prompt, despite the fact that we were sitting outside the core of the restaurant on the quiet sidewalk. The food was great. I had the Salmorejo (cold soup) that was delicious, and a pork steak that was unlike any Pork I had ever had. So delicious. All of us enjoyed our food. Great location, next to Palacio Real. You can eat outside or indoors. Fantastic customer service from the moment you walk in The food is so good: flavors, seasoning, freshness. This restaurant was an amazing dining experience. We were led into the bottom floor where the ham used to be dried and aged. You could see the hooks on the ceiling. It was really cool to be in that same room. We started with the salmorejo soup - a tomato cream soup with boiled egg and minced ham. We then went to the goat cheese chupa chups. They were these deep fried goat cheese balls that were placed over a homemade tomato marmalade. Very very delicious for the goat cheese lovers (like me :) ). We then tried the foie gras with mushroom and apple. This was the best starter. If you like a pâté type of dish, this is a must. DELICIOUS. We are from California and had a one night layover in Madrid. Our hotel was about a 5 minute walk to La Mi Venta. Upon getting there, the whole staff was extremely friendly. You can either sit on their outside patio, or downstairs in this beautiful cellar. Not even kidding, my fiancé and I said this meal was one of the best we've ever had. We got the Iberian Ham and Encote Steak. To drink we had the Sangria and a Mojito and both were absolutely fantastic as well. We rated both a 9.5/10 absolutely amazing! I went here a couple weeks ago on my trip to Spain. The food was delicious and the service was good. Remember that it can be slower in Spain than the USA because the culture is different when it comes to dining. The staff was able to communicate with us well since I spoke minimal Spanish but they were also able to speak English. I would recommend going but don't get the Chorizo from hell, it's not worth the money since it's just Chorizo with like Tabasco on it. Came here after seeing the quaint restaurant on the walk to the temple of debod. The staff was very friendly and we were seated outside on the quiet street. The bread was the best I had on my trip and paired well with the olives. We ordered the steak (recommended by our server) which my boyfriend described as "the best steak he's ever had". I got the squid which was grilled to perfection and was dressed with a delicious sauce. I would recommend this to anyone visiting Madrid who wants a nice classy meal. We tried something different each time and were impressed with the flavors of all the dishes. This is a family owned restaurant founded in 1962. The four sons are doing an incredible job continuing the family tradition of great food, attentive service by all the staff and overall incredible dining experience. So lovely! First things first, it's very small so I HIGHLY recommend making a reservation. They don't open until 8 so if you don't have a reservation, try calling earlier and they might accommodate you. We didn't have one because we originally planned to go a different night and had to switch but they were full. We showed up at 7:45 and they gave us a high top table in the back. It was perfect. The staff was very friendly, very on top of everything, and very helpful in recommending dishes and explaining anything you're unsure of. I asked for the house red wine and it was delicious!! Better than some of the expensive glasses I've had. The food was really good too. One thing to note, if you like your meat cooked medium, order it medium well because they have a different idea of medium. The burger came close to rare. What a wonderful experience! My wife and I had an amazing dinner at La Mi Vent during our last night in Madrid. The ambiance is unique and inviting, from the old wood fired oven to the comfy bar to the dining area in the old downstairs wine cellar. On of the most delicious, and simple, things I have ever had is their complimentary soup made with iberico pork bones - just wonderful and inviting. We started with one of their iberico charcuterie plates, which did not disappoint. It included some traditional iberico ham, chorizo, a salami type sausage and some beef ham with some manchego - all extremely good. We also had the pan con tomate, which was just okay. It was served differently as the Cristal bread was served separately from the tomato (which we we're not really into), and the bread was overly toasted. Our main course was terrific - grilled iberico pork served on anhot, sizzling plater with padron peppers (yum!), and potatoes. The pork was some of the best I've had. It was cooked perfectly, with a wonderful sear and flavor. I would eat this dish every day. Desert fell flat however. We tried torrija de toffee which was just much to sweet - tasty but much, much to sweet for our tastes. The wine list is really nice, with many different types, regions and costs available. I also need to mention their house olive oil - wow. I have never had an olive oil quite like it. We ended up buying a bottle to bring back with us. I live in NYC, have been to Madrid 5 times in my life and have had 4 dinners at La Mi Venta. The food, the ambiance, and the service all get 5 stars. You should definitely try the big steak if you're a carnivore - it's probably the best piece of meat in Europe. The dining room downstairs is an old cellar with little rooms and corners everywhere. The staff speaks English for those of us traveling to Madrid from abroad, and provides a rare level of service for Spain that would compete with any fine dining experience in the US. I would never come here again! NEVER. It appears to be a tourist trap based on the quality of execution, or lack thereof. Tried to make a reservation, they were booked solid, but the outdoor seating is first come, first served. So we arrived when they opened for dinner. The host informed us that "fortunately" a table was available inside. We took it. Great so far. (There were sevvvvveral tables that remained empty during our 1.5 hour meal... so that whole "booked solid" thing might be a luring technique!) Our server was really nice, super helpful so that was the highlight of the night & the ONLY reason I'm rating them 2 stars-- 1 for him, 1.5 for the food. They bring "complimentary" bread, but for 1, it ISN'T complimentary & 2, they will take it away as discarded food if you don't specify otherwise. Their olive oil claims to be the "best in the world," but who really knows. It was good & so were the bread rolls (1 euro per piece). We started with a bottle of Chardonnay & 3 small items-- 2 pinchos (1 hake with leafy greens & 1 tuna with candied tomatoes) as well as their 100% Iberian Bellota Ham appetizer. The hake fish pincho was really good & so was the ham platter. The tuna was soooo tough & dry, neither of us could eat more than a taste. Our server noticed & asked about it. For main courses we got the White Sea Bass & the Grilled Iberian Secreto Pork. Both were horrrrible!! The bass was swimming in a bland broth which may have washed all seasoning from the fish if any had been added to begin with. I've never tasted something so bland & tasteless in my life! Even being quite hungry couldn't make it taste decent. Plus there were tons of BONES in the center! Like really, who filets a fish with a center line of bones left behind?? I'm no expert, but I would expect to maybe find a few bones on the edges, not the center. The pork was soooo overcooked, I mean inedible. The special knife they provided couldn't even cut through it without sawing like crazy which was a bit embarrassing to try. I thought I was using the knife wrong at first, haha. Took a couple bites & decided I'd rather not waste the tummy space on bad tasting, terribly executed food. Thought, well I can just finish off this yummy bread roll & wine... but then they came and took our plates away before I could say, "Wait, I want my bread!" We'd planned on ordering another bottle of wine & dessert, but we were afraid of further disappointment. No adjustments to the hefty bill after such subpar food was pretty insulting. In all fairness, we hadn't specifically asked for an adjustment or to remove any dishes, but when dinner plates are left nearly full, it's hard to ignore that there was a huge problem! Big indication that management doesn't much care... again, tourist mentality, like why work to please a customer who isn't likely to return anyway. We came here twice during our stay. The first time we had the croquets, a ham and cheese platter and dessert. Everything was very good and prices were reasonable for what we got. However the next time we came wasn't as good. First our croquets were still cold I inside which they did fix for us. We ordered a dish that was basically pig feet and ears, I'm not a big feet fan as I don't like the texture but the others at the table did enjoy it. We also tried the lamb chops which as others have stated have very little meat on them. What meat is on them is good but keep that in mind if you are hungry maybe choose something else. Where things went down hill is when we got the bill. Someone at our table ordered a side of fries which were rather greasy but just standard french fries. The bill showed a charge of almost $9 for what seemed to be the fries. We asked our server and he seemed to agree that looked wrong so he went to ask. He came back and said he was told that was the price. To put this into perspective... 6 large croquets were less than these fries, all our drinks, several glasses of wine and beer all totaled less than the fries, the large bowl of pig feet was only a couple bucks more than these fries.
