Celebrated a friends birthday here. The location is hidden but it's such a pretty restaurant. They have live music and they sing happy birthday with a banner and sparklers. The food was good, but way overpriced for Cuban food. Between 2 appetizers, 1 entree and 4 drinks it came out to $200+. These are south beach prices for a hidden location next to the airport. The service was probably the biggest downside. I got there 10 minutes before the rest of the party and the waiters had their back to me the entire time. No one came to offer water or anything to drink until I had to physically get up and flag someone down. They also charge a cover fee per person on the final check and don't mention it anywhere beforehand. We ordered a cocktail at first and the waitress told us we could add a double shot to it called "ya tu sabe". Turns out the shots were just separate. They don't go with any cocktail as it's it's own concoction. Would've been nice to have that explained prior to ordering. All in all it's a fun time if you're down to pay south beach prices for a local restaurant. read more

Food wise I would give this place a solid three stars. The menu has many traditional food items that you expect to find in Miami like mariquitas, yuca frita, and croquetas. I do like that the menu pays a tribute to Miami as a city with most plates and drinks being named cities, famous sayings, or cliche words. The food itself was okay. It tasted good but nothing out of this world. I did enjoy the bacon wrapped maduros and found them to be different and something I had never tasted before. The drinks were super strong and delicious. I ordered the Hialeah Gardens and found it to be yummy. We did not really order main plates but shared appetizers. We did order the arroz con huevo frito and found it to be yummy but again something that I could easily recreate at home. The plates were not anything that made you say WOW. If I were to rate this place on ambiance alone I would give it 4 stars. The restaurant is well designed and has neon signs with very famous sayings. Great photo spots! The customer service is great. Recently my friend and I met up at La Mesa for a comedy show special. She arrived earlier so she was able to get a table for us. I arrived 15 minutes later and joined her. Parking was full in the front, but there were some unmarked spaces still available in the back. Well lit, not sketchy at all. Once I sat down, I scoped out the restaurant--cute decors, pretty nice set up. My friend had ordered drinks for us already so they arrived shortly after I got there. The comedy show flyer stated that doors opens at 7pm and show starts at 8pm, ends 10:30pm. By 8:30pm, the DJ was still DJ'ing. The music was really loud and my friend and I were having a hard time hearing each other. It was so loud to the point my ears starting hurting. 8:45pm, still no updates about the show. I looked around and noticed some people were annoyed. My friend and I still tried to enjoy the time. We ordered the Pa La Mesa Sampler (Fusion) with the masitas two ways, tostones, guacamole, mahi chunks, fried cheese*, mariquitas. When we got the food, we noticed that the cheese wasn't fried. The server was nowhere to be found and we decided to just let it be. We gave it the benefit of the doubt that the kitchen was busy or swamped, or maybe the fryer broke down. Who knows. The bussers or server-assistants were providing better service, they frequently replenished everyone's bottled waters and bussed tables. Later the server finally came by, my friend ordered another drink and I asked for more lime for the mahi chunks. She never brought the lime slices. The mahi chunks tasted very fishy, the pork was pretty good. Finally at 9pm, the first comedian went on. When the second comedian took over, the front stage area became a twerking contest on a whim. His jokes were pretty funny and he was interactive with the customers. The third comedian was not funny in my opinion. He spoke about his intimate experiences with girls when he was a kid and it just was not pleasant to hear about. After the show ended at 10:15pm, the server brought everyone's checks in her section. Gratuity was automatically included. My friend and I left with our ears ringing. Overall, I would not recommend this restaurant. The show started late and ended early. The sound was really loud. Some of the food in the Sampler was good, but the cheese was not fried like what it stated in the menu. Three reviews written to date start with, "I really wanted to love this place..." La Mesa, you've been open for like 2 months and you are already getting this kind of negative attention. Take note! We stopped in last Wednesday. You told us you had just changed the chef. After ordering a steak empanizado, 20'min later you come to our table to tell us that you've been searching but can't find a steak. If we could order something else off the menu. Searching? Where? Lol We let it slide because we did order off menu and it was their "soft opening" but then you come back with a chicken fried chicken steak full of tomato sauce with a layer of the underside completely scraped off because your chef made a mistake and made it a Milanesa. That's just unacceptable. There were only 2 Tables dining and the rest were bar patrons. I can't imagine you with a full house. And food was just meh. If you will be doing Cuban food in westchester right by the Cuban food giants: La Carretta and Sergio's and others of the like, you really need to bring it! And I emphasize that. You had your bar full so maybe that's more your thing. The music was blaring at 9pm I couldn't even hear my friends next to me. I give you three stars for the amazing red sangria and price of $17 the pitcher (I thought that was a good deal) and your Cuban coffee was pretty darn good, the croquetas and cute decor. This place had it's grand opening last night.. but it is in reality running on training wheels ! There is only one bartender for the whole place... which is not even full... maybe 25 people... that hasn't come all at once and they are running like a chicken without a head. There is a lot of bickering between the work staff and I can imagine that this is only the start. It's only 6 PM. And I don't know whether to order another drink or just jump over and help..... The lunch menu also had a lot of choices to choose from. We ordered an appetizer, The Sampler. Which came with a good amount of food to share. It came with croquetas, fried yuca, fried cheese, masitas de puerco, and mariquitas. For entrees, we got the Vaca Frita, the Churrasco, and the Masitas de Puerco. All the entrees were delicious and filled us up. It was very empty at the time we came, but at night it gets more packed. I would definitely be coming back for their dinner hours. The only reason I am giving it a 4/5 is because the waitress was gone for a very long time without coming back to the table to refill our waters. She was very kind, but we barely saw her. I was not even slightly impressed with this place. Let's start with parking... they block each spot with cones and charge ten dollars to valet when that place should have free parking. It's not even downtown... it's in the middle of Coral way.... Then we sat for our reservations and the first thing we were told was that there is a $50 dollar spending limit during weekends. Normally I would be okay with that if the food and drinks were actually good, but they weren't good. The mimosas tasted like pure syrup or orange juice. Champagne is suppose to be bubbly... not a single bubble in the glass... not even after I poured it. Just look at the picture. I felt like I was drinking straight sugary OG with FLAT champagne. I went with four of my friends and ALL of us received cold food. It looks like they prepare everything before hand and jumble everything on a plate when someone orders. Let me know if you can eat cold pork, eggs, or fries... BECAUSE I CANT. It wasn't even slightly warm.... I couldn't enjoy it. We had the CABALLO 305 (it was okay), crab croquetas (I've had better), avocado toast (not worth it), bacon wrapped maduros (cold so not enjoyable), loaded tostones (the beef was really chewy), the chicken and waffles (worst I've ever had) and two others... They will not be seeing us again... After several mimosas I was still not even slightly tipsy. The dj was talking too much and the crowd was really young... Not to mention, the waitress was nowhere to be found sometimes. All the waiters were hanging out by the bar since people were up and dancing. People still need service. You can order coffee, sandwiches and pastel iris there. The main room comes next, divided by a bookcase full on interesting artifacts, collections, knack-knacks. It's a large dining space with bigger tables and a stage set up in the back. On the side of the space there is a large bar and also some high top seats. The concept is fantastic. It's bright and full of color. From outside you would never expect it. We were a group of six that cane for lunch on a Wednesday. It was not busy at all... maybe one more table. Service was spotty, un attentive, and not helpful. We felt initially rushed then it was very slow. The food was good, tasty. But basic Cuban food. Noting noteworthy but good quantity and average price. I had the pork chunks with white rice and maduros. Everything had the right flavors and tasted fresh, especially the rice!...I'm a sucker for good white rice! but I think my pork was a bit on the fatty side and slightly undercooked. My friends seemed to enjoy the food but were equally as unimpressed. I'm curios about combining back for drinks one evening since it seems that they would have live music and a good ambiance. It recently opened and did not have the full menu operational at the time. The bakery was also getting started but the restaurant gives the combination of the old Cuban restaurant with a more today look. Definitely a lot of cute places in the restaurant to make a couple of Instagram memories. One neon sign said "cojelo suave" or in English "take it easy". Your bill gets delivered in a cigar box. So the inside is very cute and you wouldn't expect it to look like that. Now to the food! The plantain chips come with black beans which was a nice twist from the usual mariquita sauce. Las masas de puerco or pieces of pork were a little fatty but had good flavor. Any item that dealt with a chicken breast was not available at the time we went, which was a little disappointing but they also had just opened a week or two before we went. We had Birthday reservations for 20 and they reserve the "Cojelo Suave" Area and decor with balloons was a nice touch. I really wanted to love this place. When I first saw it in a local article I thought it would be another great place to have dinner and drinks without having to drive too far. When we arrived we had to SHOUT to our waitress (even though there were only 4 people in the restaurant the DJ somehow felt the need to pretend it was Patio on a Sunday night). This would be the last time we saw our waitress. The food did not come out hot and was extremely lackluster in taste. Once it was time to pay we asked the waitress (a different one) to run the cards with certain amounts. She came back with receipts to completely different charges. To make a long story short, we were all charged incorrectly and I'm now walking out with 2 charges that add up to more than the total. We spoke to the manager who assured us hat the charges would show up eventually, which I'm very doubtful of. He was in no way apologetic and seemed to lack basic customer service and communication skills. My mojito was tasty though. read more

So I am truly a fan of this place. Great music and food. Waiters are nice . We sat at the bar and had the macitas de puerco and yucas fried. Both exeptionaĺy good, specially the masitas. However a big flaw..when the bill came a 20% service feed was tag automatically to the bill. I am sorry and I am not stingy but really a 20% service charge in my opinion is really rediculous to tag automatically for a sw 8 street restaurant. I know we have covid and many restaurats have been affected but restaurant waiters and owners remember you are not the only ones affected. The people that visit your establihments have been financially affected too and if you are going to continue to tag hefty tips you are not going to get many people to come return. Food for thought. Horrible Cuban food!! They actually denied our party of 15 a glass of tap water when we consumed alcohol and ordered platters of food. If you want water you have to purchase their bottles of waters instead, They have a man in the parking lot charging $10 for parking when it's a free public parking lot, all sounded like a scam, because he didn't charge the entire party and then he left when confronted. Forget about using the restrooms, we have no idea how this place was ever approved by Miami Dade county to open with the space in the restroom stalls. We will Never return!!!! read more

I was very excited to have a place like La Mesa Miami open up nearby. Because it is close to home and a festive environment, I admit, I have tried it a few times and brought along family and friends to share in this Westchester novelty. The first time went the food was excellent. I even gave it a good review. The masitas de puerco and the croquettes were outstanding. Unfortunately, from the start, the service was not very good. In fact, quite terrible. In the beginning, we attributed the lack of good service to the new opening and the new staff. But come on, Our waitress didn't know what a Margarita was. Then she told they had run out of the mix.... huh? How do run out of Margarita mix at 7:30 pm on a Friday night in Westchester? Mind you, the restaurant is located just blocks away from not one, but two large supermarket chains. Anyway, giving them the benefit of doubt, we have tried going back a few times and had genuinely hope for some change, but the service has not improved at all. The second time we were there the host was extremely rude to me and our party. We were so upset, that the entire party of 6 chose to leave. Despite the fact that I had spoken to a manager the day before and was assured that we would be accommodated, the man in the front was rude and unwilling to work with us. He handled the situation poorly, unprofessional with little consideration to the 6 potentially future guests. I gave him the name of the person we spoke to and he barked at us and said, "Sorry, but that person was not working that day. That he was the one in charge." At that point, he may as well have been beating on his chest. As a result, along with several other patrons not in our party took their business elsewhere. That night, my guests chose never to go back to the restaurant. Three strikes and you are out! Any way, we tried one more... [What can I tell you, It's close home]. The service was still just as bad, now to add, the food has taken a deep dip for the worst. I honestly don't know if Chef Zerquera was there, Tuesday, Dec. 3rd for dinner. I'd be really surprised if he was. My family and I decided to give the restaurant one last shot to celebrate my husbands birthday. As mentioned, it's close to home. It is a chic and festive spot. It is decorated very nice and the music is good. It was a Tuesday night and the place was relatively empty when we arrived. Our reservation was at 8:15. The restaurant later filled for a larger group which was seated right next to our table. It appeared that there were only two servers and one bartender. Two "disinterested" servers tended to the entire restaurant. Needless to say, our table and our party was overlooked and neglected. The staff appeared to be lost and distracted. We watched them huddle to chitchat in the corner and had to remind them of the delay in our order. Our drinks took forever... We saw drinks from the bar being returned because they were not up to par. Our food was cold when it was finally brought to our table and the exclusive masitas de puerco were hard, salty and over cooked. Not even the rice was good. The rice was not thoroughly cooked. We were literally bitting into hard pieces of rice. To top off the evening, they didn't bring out the freakin birthday cake for my husband. Honestly, it the whole experience was so bad that we just wanted to get out. We gladly left our leftovers behind and preferred for them to be tossed. I don't like to write bad reviews, but our experience has been consistently disappointing. The place is cute. Great decorations and picture opts to be had. Which we had no desire to even take, and I love pics! It's a good local place to sit at the bar and listen to live music, but I can't say that I would recommend it for anything other than that. There is many reasons why I am giving this restaurant 1 star but I'm just going to list a few by the way it was New Year's Eve. The service at this restaurant was absolutely horrible. One of my family members ordered their food at 10:00 pm and didn't get their food until 12:20 am. We also ordered champagne and grapes which we never ended up getting. We spoke to the manager about this many times throughout our night and he kept pushing back the food time arrival by 10 minutes, we got our food super late. Also, the manager kept attending the table in front of us when our food and drinks were still missing. Overall the service was super slow, we got our food and drinks extremely late and it's definitely better to go to another restaurant to enjoy. I also want to add, when they returned my car from valet parking my windows were down, plus, I keep coins where my cup holders are and when they returned my car all my coins were gone.
