Empanadas

The service was great. They were close to closing and they still accommodated us and didn't make us feel rushed. I only tried 3 things. One was the chicharron appetizer that came with Guac and tostones. Super fresh guac and tostones. The chicharron was also fresh and flavored well. I had a guava and cheese empanada and a steak and onions. They were both delicious. I also had a tres leche cake that I didn't take a picture of but it's cool cause it wasn't great. Tasted like it had been sitting in that display refrigerator for a while. Otherwise it was good. I'll go back for a full meal

Food was really good. Prices were reasonable and service was good. It was early evening not too many customers so it was nice.

Getting ready for Valentine's day

We were so happy to find a vegan friendly restaurant in the Bronx. La Masa has a welcoming bakery/restaurant vibe with slow reggeaton planning in the background. We came the end of January so the decorations were Valentine's Day themed with dim lights on the ceilings There were many options to choose from and options to sub meat meals with meatless ground beef. If you are coming for alcoholic drink they have some great cocktails as well. We both ordered the arroz con meatless ground with a side of beans and everything was seasoned well and tasted amazing. The meal came with 3 fried sweet maduro. I loved the savory sweet combination. I feel satisfied and full

This is a local bronx spot that is absolutely super cute. First off the folks in there are just so friendly, and the food is pretty yummy! I went there one time for my birthday and I liked it so much that I wanted to come back. My friend actually brought me here initially and asked me to be her bridesmaid! In the picture I have posted on here you can see the mini empanadas, which is my go to favorite, they have so many! What's cool to know is that the empanadas have printed on them which empanada they are so there is no confusion as to what is inside the empanada. Cute spot in the BX, totally coming back! Highlight--Empanadas Baybee!!!

If you're looking for vegan Spanish food, look no further than La Masa. This corner restaurant has all the Colombian vibes with its music and flavorful food. They have a nice selection of vegan options to go with their regular menu as well.

So good that I want the recipe.

This restaurant is one of the most welcoming places I have visited in all of New York City. I was recovering from a tooth extraction when I walked in the door. It's tiring to have to think of "smushy" foods to eat 35x a week. I told the waitress that I just wanted the best smushy food on the menu. She brought me a fried plantain topped with cheese with a side of red beans and rice. Delicious with perfect serving sizes. I also told her I wanted a mug of coffee, half of which was milk. Literally everyone gets this order wrong. They hear "half-and-half", they give me black coffee, they assume by half, I mean three splashes. People get this order wrong so often that a lot of times I just don't even bother expressing what I wanted. She nailed it. I left the restaurant to catch a bus to downtown Manhattan. Incredibly long story short, I never made it back on the bus. My phone ran out of batteries, there were bus stops that didn't exist, buses I boarded that went the wrong way. A big disaster. So I was riding yet another bus when I saw this restaurant on the horizon. Cell phone dead, no way of telling my ballet instructor that I'm not going to make it to the performing arts center, no cabs to hail, no way to call for an Uber. I decided to get off the bus to find my nice "smushy" food waitress again. I walk in, and she is not behind the counter. Oh no. Now what? If you can believe it, this restaurant employs at least two nice young women. A girl named Laura called me an Uber, and insisted that I don't even need to reimburse her?! I made it to the performing arts center at 2:43 for a 2:45 PM arrival, only thanks to this incredibly compassionate woman who works there. GO!

I decided to sit at the bar since, in my experience, service is usually better there but this time, that wasn't the case. I understand that staff may need time to set up, but repeatedly walking past someone who is clearly trying to make eye contact is simply rude. It seemed like they had plenty of staff, but responsibilities weren't distributed effectively. The bartender was juggling far too much: handling bar guests, multiple tables, making drinks, pouring water, and running food from the kitchen, all while the floor staff appeared bored and slow-moving. Because of that imbalance, the bar was largely neglected. I genuinely felt bad asking for anything, but a drink refill or even a brief check in would have been appreciated. I noticed another nearby table experiencing the same issue, and we bonded over it. Thankfully, we were both seasoned diners and didn't make a scene. Poor service is frustrating, but it's never an excuse to be unkind. I don't blame the bartender at all, this is clearly a management issue. Better training and clearly defined roles would go a long way in improving the service flow. Despite the service hiccup, I'm still giving them four stars because I believe this is a small, fixable issue with better management. The snacks we tried were good. The beef and chicken empanadas were hot and flavorful. The pork was a bit dry, but that's somewhat expected with chicharrón and nothing a little sauce can't fix. The margaritas were also really nice and expertly made. Overall, there's a solid foundation here. With improved service organization, this could easily be a great experience.

When I called the restaurant to ask them to send the missing items, they were rude and extremely unprofessional. I called again to speak with someone else and they refused to let me speak to the manager. The person who answered the telephone told me; "Food gets cold. It happens. What do you think we can do about that?!". He also told me I would have to go to the restaurant to retrieve the missing items. He was short with me and extremely disrespectful. This kind of behavior is despicable and unacceptable. I will tell all of my friends and family members not to patronize this establishment.

The cheese sticks are a must when you visit. They are perfectly breaded, fried golden, crispy on the outside and melty on the inside. They come out hot, stretchy, and exactly what you want late at night. Their empanadas? Fire. The beef is juicy and packed with flavor, the chicken one is tender and well-seasoned, and that pink sauce... yeah, that sauce is elite. Creamy, tangy, with just enough kick to make you keep dipping until it's gone. I also ordered the chicken cachapa -- soft, slightly sweet corn pancake, stuffed generously and cooked just right. It's comforting, filling, and hits different when you're craving something authentic. Also on a late night on Dyckman, doesn't get better than this. The juices are fresh and refreshing, the perfect balance to everything savory. Service is quick and straight to the point, exactly what you need whether you're grabbing takeout or sliding into one of the small tables to eat in. The spot itself is small and cozy, no-frills, real neighborhood vibes all day. Overall, this is a classic Dyckman late-night Venezuelan staple. Great food, quick service, and flavors that always come through. If you know, you know.

I tried calling the one on Crescent Ave but got no answer after having the phone ring for a while. But I decided to go with this location because Crescent said 9 p.m., and this one said 10 p.m. The location is on a busy street. We did get Lyft, so that wasn't an issue for us. But you might have to walk a bit if there's no parking. It's spacious outside when you first enter, and there are two sides to be seated. We were seated right away and given menus. The decor is cute, and the wall artwork is colorful and lovely. Great music was playing late at night. We did arrive after 8:30, more like 8:45ish. They were out of something we wanted to order, but the server, I think, his green apron, said Juan. I'm not sure if he said his name at the time. As I said, we were hungry, which was the main focus, not to mention arriving before they closed. The appetizers were delicious. I suggest getting two if you have a big group because three pieces on a plate are insufficient for four people. The food came out promptly, everything was delicious, and we enjoyed every bite. I hope to return and get the name of what we ordered. I'll use that as an excuse to return because everything looked good on the menu. I know we got Chicharron, flan, and tres leche, but the names of the dishes Yes, I could look at the menu, which I took a picture of, but I would prefer to go back
