The staff is friendly & personable & the decor is inviting. The place is small with individual table & chairs a a small bar. However, it's pretty popular & gets quite full as the evening goes on with both couples & families. The vegan corn arepa was large with lots of tasty toppings, the assorted empanadas were delicious & the rice & beans with steak & salad was as good as what grandma would serve you at home! The place has so much promise. The decor is nice. The bar looks great. Went in to order just two empanadas to go. Waited for over 30 minutes. Wait staff didn't even offer water. Wait would have been longer if I didn't follow up myself. The flavor was great but the portion of the empanadas left me hungry. Too tiny. If it weren't for the rainbow flag for pride, this place would get one star. Owner, please re-train your staff on common courtesy and sense. First off let me say the food is really delicious, everything I had was like Christmas for my mouth The waitresses were very attentive and nice. I liked the decor and the fact that they use mason jars for cups ( not a new concept, but still something I am fond of). We just moved near the neighborhood and wanted to try out what seems to be the only Colombian restaurant in the area. We decided to try it out on Colombian Independence Day. While the food was not bad- our overall experience was ruined by the environment and atmosphere. When we first arrived- it seemed like a DJ was starting up. As the night progressed- the place started sounding more and more like a club. We could barely communicate to people next to us. While the music was way to loud for a sit down restaurant- I gave them the benefit of the doubt since it was a celebratory day for all Colombians. However the part that really made the atmosphere more uncomfortable was the behavior of the hostess. She seemed to have been drinking alcoholic beverages since we arrived. Then she proceded to serve a shot to our waiter. As the night progressed, she appeared more rambunctious and loud. Again- completely understand the celebratory atmosphere. However drinking on the job and trying to get the waiters drunk is very unprofessional and poor management. This is a business- not a backyard family party or club. Again- the food here is not out of this world, but it wasn't bad. I enjoyed their creative empanada options. But management needs improvement. read more

Listen I loved La Masa ever since they opened. I loved that Morris park was becoming diverse. I don't know why they've changed half of their recipes but they're either flavorless or TOO salty. They changed the black bean burger bun a million times and settled on some overly dry bun. I'm really sad since this is one of the few places that have really made me happy as a vegetarian but it's just AWFUL now. Maybe they gained popularity and decided to cut corners now but they SHOULDNT. I'm torn but this one star is completely warranted. 3 consecutive major errors, whether it be how it was packed or worse, them putting a salad topped patacone in a microwave, no one wants wilted lettuce guys. After a day at the Bronx Zoo for Father's Day we were looking for good food nearby. We of course used Yelp and found this location. We were immediately greeted upon arrival and even though the location is a little small we were able to be seated right away. We were immediately provided with water and menus. We ordered the camarones salteado and a pork loin dish that was prepared similarly. I was pretty surprised and impressed with the presentation of the dishes. It was also really delicious! We also ordered some soft drinks: apple soda and a fruit juice that was tasty. I took off half a * because the waitress wasn't really helpful or eager to recommend dishes for first timers. However, I had a horrible experience this weekend... I was there with a group of friends who I forced to come with me.... Only because it was amazing 4 years ago.... Our food was bland, the sanchocho was watery and the corn was super soggy. My friend ordered the bistec encebollado and it had no flavor... The meat was rubbery to begin with.... The empanadas were okay.... However.......... That is all fixable... My biggest issue with the customer service. Not once, was other than being seated was asked if I wanted water... We had to beg the waiter Stephany to get us drinks as she kept approaching the table with an attitude. We asked for hot sauce twice, straws for our mini cups and we received nothing. I was upset a tip was mandated to begin with because the way she was working; she honestly deserved nothing.... She really needs to step her game up.. I have confidence you guys could do better! Definitely go with a group of people because you're going to want to try all the things. I came here on my birthday for lunch as part of a day-long series of activities, and this was the highlight for everyone. We told the server that it was our first time there, and she helped us order. The reason they have a menu that includes vegan and gluten-free items because a relative of the owner has a medical condition that required her to explore various dietary options to deal with it. So that is how they became familiar with vegan food. The menu has vegan and gluten-free items well-marked. Empanadas - definitely get the Roasted Vegetables. It comes in a corn dough and we all agreed this was the best flavor and ordered seconds. We also tried the Mushrooms & Onions, Beef-Less Ground and Roasted Eggplant ones, which were fine, they just couldn't compare to the Roasted Vegetables. We tried both the Patacones (green plantain base) and the Arepas (white cornmeal base). If you can only choose one, go with the Patacones. We tried both the Carrilero (beef-less ground and cheese) and the Vegan (mix greens, black beans, guiso & vegan cheese) toppings, which were both good. I'm usually not into fake meats, but I did like their beef-less ground. Maduros Rellenos - a whole sweet plantain sliced down center and filled. We got the Beef-Less Ground & Vegan Cheese version. Excellent! Each of those three dishes is served with a side of calentado (rice and beans). Maizitos - an appetizer that is a big bowl of corn. It's good, but make sure you have enough people to eat it or be prepared to take some home because it's very large! For dessert, we tried the Arroz con Leche Vegan (rice pudding). It was good. Rice pudding isn't really my thing, so I would try one of the other two vegan desserts next time (strawberries and cream or apple pie empanadas). read more

Loved it here. Had the Campesina Burger, very well cooked the atmosphere was great, music was low enough I can have an actual conversation. My family and I came in for brunch I had the Bellini and my brother had the Cortadito, it's like a coffee with rum drink - SO GOOD! I am so grateful for their vegan menu! For the very first time, the kitchen sent the none vegan version of their yummy "cache". Customer service is amazing. I called 'Paula' and she was so accomodating and understanding...she even personally delivered my corrected vegan "caches" plus a vegan dessert!!! She handled the situation so professionally. I was craving empanadas do I decided to order for dinner from seamless. Before I even opened the container there was a note that said "it's not burnt, its ketchup." As soon as I opened the container, I could smell the food was burnt. And I've ordered these empanadas before and they have NEVER looked, smell, nor tastes like burnt before. I reached out to seamless and the restuarant refused to give a refund stating again it was ketchup. I ended up getting food from somewhere else bc this food is not edible.
