Excellent Peruvian fusion place recommended by Eater 38, Yelp Elites, etc. They draw on influences from Chinese, Japanese, Spanish and African cuisines. Many of their dishes include Chocio corn (similar to hominy), and they even served a crispy version as an appetizer. We came here for dinner with a dozen people, shared 20 plates, and absolutely loved everything. It was a Monday night, which happens to be half priced wines by the bottle - we got a great bottle of Sagemoor Reisling for just $22.50, regularly $45. Service by Raquel was very attentive, and she made great recommendations. We ordered 20 dishes to share: (1) two Festival de Cebiches -- 3 types of ceviche: Classico (halibut), Popular (crispy calamari, shrimp, octopus, halibut) and Nissei (tuna, seaweed - my favorite) ; (2) two Tiradito Criollos - Hamachi sashimi w/ sweet potato in tiger milk sauce - incredible; my favorite dish of the night; (3) two Antichuchos de Pollo; (4) 2 Antichuchos de Res; (5) 2 Golden Chaufa -- fried rice with Dungeness crab and shrimp); (6) 2 Pescado al Pilpil - halibut w/ roasted garlic and crispy kale - my husband's fave; (7) 2 King salmon charapitas w/ roasted sunchokes and rainbow potatoes - wow; (8) 2 Lomo Saltados - wok fried beef tenderloin, tomatoes, onions, jalapeno, oyster sauce, soy sauce w/ potatoes and rice - wow; delish, (9) 2 yuca fries; and (10) 2 wok fried broccolini - delicious flavor. We did the tasting experience after getting a date night out for the first time in a long time (we have small kiddos so a babysitter is a luxury)! We started out with pisco sours (mine, a classic, my husband's was mango-y), and they were delicious! The tasting started out strong with a delicious tarta acevichada, which tasted exactly as it looked. We then moved on to our favorite portion of the night, the la cebichuria--a tuna poke of sorts, a fantastic cebiche, and these crab rolls that I'm still dreaming of. Everything had a great touch of spice and paired with the pisco sour perfectly. Next up was the prawns, which were on top of these giant white corn kernels that were very bean-like, and cut the spice of the prawns well. Next up was the pescado al pilpil, a halibut with peas and mushrooms in a butter sauce. I gotta be honest, after all the spice of the dishes that came before it, this was absolutely boring and tasted like nothing to me. (My husband had less harsh feedback but it was still low on our list.) To continue the mediocrity, the duck dish was our main and it was...fine. The fried rice that came with it was fantastic, but the duck was surprisingly chewy and tough. We both didn't love it. We ended with a dessert that was fit for a king (especially after all the food we had before): a bunch of little chocolate tasting bites, and then a weird but fantastic mousse with crispy quinoa I loved. Overall, we had a great time. Our server was lovely, we got everything we needed (minus my husband's third drink which must've hit the height of drink requests because it took quite a while), and it was a lovely experience. I took my husband here for a birthday lunch and if it's just for the food, I would give it a 4.5/5. The food was excellent with one with one bad part but not enough to deter us from all the other foods. Eggplant dish -berenjena criolla 5/5 -- favorite dish of the day. Love that you can still taste a bit of the fried texture on the eggplant and flavor was nutty, creamy, and citrusy. Achupado 3/5 - this was a good dish, there was a variety of seafood and they were all good except for the octopus. That was inedible. I wished they cut it to smaller pieces so it can be eaten easier or give us a knife but as is, it was way too tough and chewy. Flavors was spot on, I do wish they gave more noodles to absorb the sauce Ceviche tasting - 5/5 love the variety. Really enjoyed our experience here. Came at 5:30 on a Friday evening without a reservation. There was plenty of seating in the lounge area and we were seated quickly. The lounge was really trendy and perfect for enjoying happy hour which is M-F, ending at 6pm. Food came out incredibly fast. Pisco sours were $9 and cebiches and other apps were $15-20ish which is a deal compared to their normal menu and would recommend if you're hoping to try this place. Very nice in terms of everything! We went for lunch here on a Friday. We did make a reservation in advance but it was not crowded, so I would think walking in would be okay too in lunch hours. But this is a really upscale place and assume the place runs at full capacity during dinner hours. There is parking under the building and you can get your parking ticket validated by your server before leaving - so no stress with parking in downtown. Yes, this is an expensive place but since we were here during lunch hours, we were able to take advantage of the Executive Lunch - Set menu for $45 per person. Among us 3 people, we were able to taste everything available in that set menu and every single dish was amazing - like truly, from presentation to flavors, especially the 3 appetizers - so so very good! We weren't sure if the prices are aligned with what we ordered. But don't get me wrong, we the food was full of flavor and the presentation beautiful. Mi novio made reservations here for my birthday in April (I know I know it's a lateee review) and we had an amazing time! So happy to have a Peruvian restaurant on the Eastside! The restaurant is sooo beautiful. When we arrived it was for dinner and upon entering there was no host present. We waited a few minutes but no one came over so my man decided to walk up the stairs to find someone but a server saw him and asked him if we checked in with a host but we told the server there was no one there. The friendly server helped us and found the host to return to their desk at the entrance. Once sat we admired the beautiful decor and beautiful large menu. My man is Peruvian and was raised in Peru so trying a Seattle Peruvian restaurant is always fun and on the list for us. We always order a Pisco Sour and this one here was beautifully presented and tasty! Veal heart is necessary for me to order and wow was it delicious. The main entree we shared was the Achupado which also was super tasty. Food was presented nicely and was satisfying. We weren't really sure what to expect since we weren't super familiar with Peruvian food and we learned that Peru has a large Japanese population which heavily influences the menu here. I have dined at La Mar a couple of times - it is consistently a good (but not quite great) meal. Service is unfailingly excellent, but the food is where the details go awry a bit. We have ordered the fish as our main entree on both occasions - it's always delicious, but it tends to be a very bony affair (as is to be somewhat expected with a whole fish for sure, but the micro-sized bones will be in every bite, which makes it not quite as enjoyable - some effort could be made to select different varieties of fish to feature/remove some of the pin bones). The ceviches are pretty good - sometimes a bit one-note (sour). The tiraditos are more flavorful, but they tend to be skimpy on the actual fish (we could barely pick out 4-5 tiny pieces of hamachi in the criollo). The entrees were hit or miss for us; we ordered the whole fish (tasty but see my comment above), the arroz con mariscos (delicious/well prepared), the lomo saltado (the beef portion was minuscule and VERY dry/tough), and the steak (a nice cut/tender, but undercooked through out - and I love a bloody steak). At this price point, I do expect more consistency in the food. The service saves the day, here, and the atmosphere is lively and fun. read more

I will just get the food out of the way first. The 4 stars rating is 99% because of the food. It all tastes amazing, don't get me wrong. However, a couple dishes left a lot to be desired especially considering the premium you pay to eat in an upscale setting. In particular, the beef in the Loma Soltado was not as tender. A few pieces were way more chewy than others. The other dish, Halibut Solterito, I am being very nit picky with. It was slightly overcooked so the fish was slightly dry. Otherwise, all other dishes were amazing. Our favorites were definitely the wontacons, scallops, and the fried rice. My personal favorite was the Achupado. What a beautiful space with even better food and a phenomenal team! Food & drink: (5/5) My partner surprised me with a dinner here for Valentine's Day since it has been on both of our lists to try. Only he has had Peruvian food before so we opted for the prefix V-Day menu to make decision making a little easier. I wish I noted the exact items, but I believe we got a nori cone with fresh fish on top, hamachi crudo, crab ravioli, braised beef with mashed potatoes and veggies, chocolate mousse, and chocolate covered strawberries. Every single item was DELICIOUS with absolutely zero notes from either of us. Our favorite had to be the crudo with the vibrant orange, tangy sauce. Their seafood is all incredibly fresh. For drinks, we got the maracuya sour and hanami whisper. Both drinks were a bit stronger than we expected but we enjoyed them nonetheless. They also had inca kola, though our server did have to check to see if they even carried it. It's a Peruvian soda that tastes exactly like bubblegum. Worth a try! Visited La Mar Cebicheria Peruana on March 14, around 5 PM with a group of four. The place was pretty busy, so reservations are definitely a good idea. There was a lot of staff working and the service was great the whole time. Our server was friendly and attentive, and everything came out at a good pace even with a full restaurant. The drinks were amazing. We tried the Lychee Sour, Sammamish Spritz, and an Espresso Martini, and all of them were really well made and balanced. For food we started with the Papitas Peruanas, crispy Peruvian potatoes with queso fresco, huacatay, and rocoto (contains gluten and dairy). The flavors were good, but the potatoes were a little dry, which was the only small downside of the meal. We also ordered the Cebiche Tasting, which was excellent and very fresh -- a great way to try different styles of ceviche. Another dish we tried was Roquitas Nikkei, which had a really nice flavor and texture. For mains we had the Arroz con Mariscos, a Peruvian seafood rice dish similar to paella, and it was packed with seafood and very flavorful. We also tried the Quinoa Caprese, which was lighter but still very tasty. For dessert we shared the Tres Leches de Coco and sorbet, which were both a great way to finish the meal. Overall the food, drinks, and service were really good. The atmosphere was lively and you can tell they have a strong team working there. The only reason I'm giving 4.5 stars instead of 5 is because the potatoes were a little dry and the place is on the pricier side, but overall it was still a great experience. Located in downtown Bellevue, this is one of multiple locations around the world. I am glad they decided to have a location in Bellevue! Parking is off of 105th Ave NE (parking garage under restaurant), 3 hours free with validation. We were greeted immediately upon arrival and was seated shortly thereafter (we made reservations). Our server Raquel greeted us and asked if we've been to the restaurant before. It was our first time and she explained a little bit about Peruvian cuisine, and what the restaurant specializes in and chef's intent (more family style which we like). As we peruse through the menu (everything looked good!), we were given chips (imported potatoes from Peru) and green salsa (sorry, didn't catch the name, but it looked like chimichurri). The potato chips were thinly sliced and crisp, not oily. The salsa was delicious! We decided on "Experiencia La Mar" which is a 5-course tasting. $129 and requires full table participation served individually. I said tasting but we were full at the end of the course. First course was La Bienvenida - Cebiche clasico, causa de congrejo, triadito laquedo. I liked all three! Hard to choose a favorite as each one was delicious and has its own falvor. Fresh, clean flavors. Definitely great starters. Second course was Concha Oka - Hokkaido scallop, 24 month-aged parmigiano reggiano foam, lime. The parmigiano reggiano foam was amazing on the scallop! It didn't overpower the delicate taste of the scallop. Third course was Halibut Solterito - Grilled alaskan halibut; quinoa, cherry tomatoes, palta, cirspy lima beans, aji, amarillo vinaigrette. Loved that the quinoa was toasted and had a bit of a crunch. The halibut was tasty and nicely grilled. The heartiness of the halibut went well with the lightness of the quinoa, tomatoes, and lima beans. Fourth course was Wagyu Lomito - American wagyu beef, saltado sauce, tomatoes, crispy potatoes. The beef was nicely cooked (medium rare on the inside). The cirspy potatoes were amazing! The saltado sauce was nice but it was a lot -- it overpowered the entire plate. The sauce would've been a nice compliment if it was maybe just drizzled. Fifth course was Torta de Chocolate - Peruvian chocolate, manjar blanco mousse. Love that this dessert is not too sweet. Cleaned my plate! Because we were celebrating a birthday, Raquel gave us a birthday dessert -- Tres Leches de Coco - Brown-butter sponge cake, italian meringue, dule de leche ice cream, candied coconut. I would order this again! For drinks we had: Maracuya Sour, $18 - caravedo pisco quebranta, passionfruit, lime juice, egg white, angostura bitters. I normally get turned off with egg white on my cocktail, but made an exception and tried this drink. Glad I did, the egg white was just a foam on top, and completely forgot that it was there when I started sipping it. Cancha Old Fashioned, $20 - cancha-infused bourbon, rich demerara, angostura, chocolate bitter, smoke. We noticed that the other staff were attentive as well. Manager checked in on us in the end. The place was playing lively music and with patrons talking, it was a bit loud. Had to lean in to hear each other and talk louder than normal. It could also be where we were seated. Got here for a customer lunch and my coworkers came here a few months back when we were in Seattle for a trade show. My colleague lived and was raised in Peru so he knows his stuff. We asked for some suggestions and they were running a special entree to share which had grilled octopus, fish, and potatoes with shrimps too. So we chose to do that along with the classic ceviche with halibut, and the fried Chinese eggplant. The ceviche came out first and it was . The leche de Tigre gave it some acidity and punch, with red onions and hominy for texture. It was a good portion to share with the 3 of us. The eggplant came and we were all shocked at the fact that it was considered a side dish but it had attitude. Flavors were crazy delicious and it's worth sharing also with your party. Get two if you're hungry! The entire entree special really was the star. Plated beautifully, the octopus was tender and the fish was cooked beautifully. Potatoes and shrimp were heavenly. Fancy Peruvian chain restaurant on Main Street, south downtown Bellevue. Pretty big space inside. Was doing pretty good business for dinner in the midweek. For drinks, I tried the red corn drink and that was interesting. Also had one of the pisco sours, and that was quite sweet. We ordered a bunch of appetizers to share and each ordered mains. The ceviche and clams tasted decent, and the wagyu sushi was pretty good. Both are presented nicely but of course portions are not big. The complementary vegetable chips were interesting. For mains, I got the lomo saltado, a classic Peruvian beef stir fry dish. Flavors were decent, and they have a couple chunks of beef, tomato, fried potatoes and onions. Overall taste was good, and service was pretty good as expected at the price point. This place was quite pricey though, as we averaged out to about $150 per person. This makes me really sad to write because this used to be one of my favorite restaurants. My husband and I have been coming here every month or two since it first opened, and it was always a place we genuinely loved. The ceviche and octopus used to be outstanding. Unfortunately, our most recent visit was very disappointing. Both dishes have changed, and not for the better. One of the ceviches tasted off, not just different, but bad enough that I could not get through more than a bite. When I got home, I had severe stomach pain and ended up vomiting several times. It completely ruined what was supposed to be a nice lunch. When we mentioned it at the restaurant, we were told the chef is now using a different part of the tuna, which is why the flavor has changed. However, this did not feel like a simple change in preparation. It tasted spoiled. The octopus dish has also been changed and no longer resembles what it used to be. I also noticed other changes that made the experience feel less special, like no longer serving chips and dips when seated, reportedly for cost reasons. For a restaurant at this price point, this was disappointing, especially alongside a noticeable decline in food quality. Lunch was okay overall, but it no longer feels worth it. I've been to La mar 2x now and I will caveat this review with the fact that the food is tasty. Very pricey and not the best value but I get it- it's supposed to be a fancy experience in Bellevue. However the service completely sucks. It's sooooo incredibly slow. Like literally for 3 ppl and 5 dishes it took 3 hours. I've dined at the worlds top restaurants with 15-20 courses for each person and those took less time than this. Idk wtf is going on with the kitchen and/ or wait staff. Our water was never refilled. It took like 15-20 min to hunt down our server for the check. Additionally our server was like an icky salesman. Kept pushing the tasting menu or $100+ dishes on us. Felt super gross like please be a little less desperate. I'm not spending $100 on a steak that's not even wagyu. Finally the most ridiculous part. We ordered a geoduck special bc someone at my table from out of town specifically wanted to try geoduck. Like 2.5 hours later it finally came and the server was telling us "this is the blah blah blah with octopus". And we were like "oh...we don't think this is ours. We ordered geoduck". And the severe like "oh yes unfortunately we ran out and this dish is not served with octopus". And we were like "wtf....you could have given us a heads up". wtf is this- you run out of an ingredient, don't tell the diners and then try to sneak in a new dish with cheaper ingredients?! This is my last home dining here. It's clear the management team only cares about making money and not giving ppl a good memorable experience. hire more damn ppl. read more

Apparently there are multiple locations for this restaurant across the world but nonetheless I had a good experience here celebrating my birthday. I made reservations just in case but given it was a weekday, it was not busy at most hours. We got the ceviche tasting (menu says cebiche) which has clasico, limeno, and nikkei and the salmon belly (curado) tradito which is like a carpaccio. We also got the classic pisco sour which is more on the sweet side and the royal sour that is fairly strong and high quality with gold flakes. To start, we got some plantain chips and chimichurri I think, which were fantastic that we opted for more of the dipping sauce because it was that good. The seafood here is pretty fresh. The clasico and limeno were sour and spicy, and I like the classic the most. The nikkei is an ahi tuna which is kind of tomato / ketchup based and is sweet which is a different variant. $65 for the 3 dishes is very steep though. The curado is pretty good - fairly small portions for the price but delicious. Service for a restaurant that charges this much should be better. The first 30 min was excellent but the server stopped putting much effort and almost ignored our requests thereafter. It took a while to remind them of the birthday occasion but in the end we got a small chocolate cake for dessert which rounded out the meal. read more

The food was thoughtful, even tho some of the dishes in the "Experencia La Mar" were more adventurous than I was. The flavors in many of the dishes were complex and yet complementary, which is hard to do. The aji Amarillo or the cebiche criollo were examples of that. The restaurant is beautiful, and it was very quiet (surprisingly) as it's built for a lively crowd and had a great vibe. The service definitely fell down. With so few tables full, it took over an hour to get our last course and then while we were waiting for dessert, the waiter brought our coats over because they wanted to close out the coat check. It didn't need to have happened if they had paid attention to the pacing of our meal. read more

This is such a great place for a night out for dinner with friends, family or even a date night. The restaurant is super busy and lively. Bright and modern decor. It really is a bright and lively mood when you enter. While the price is high, I feel that the food matched in quality and freshness; especially with most of it being raw. We ended up here during cebiche week and got their cebiche tasting, their scallop dish on the specials, fried rice dish and their nigiri tasting. Everything was delicious. I would definitely go back for their nigiri tasting as it was my favorite of the night. The flavors were new to me and a mix of fusion. Each bite was bold and nothing lacked. The only dish I may not get again was the fried rice dish. It was not to the level of everything else we ordered. read more

We ran here after the game. The ambiance is nice and relaxing. The food was good but not spectacular. I have been to the one in San Francisco. The presentation and the attention were of a higher level. My waiter didn't even offer us dessert, he just said there was last call on drinks. We are Peruvian and like to try Peruvian restaurants when we travel out of state and out of the country. read more
