For the location La Lupe is good, but overall it is just okay. The food always feels a little under seasoned, and I think they compromise by providing an array of hot sauces and a gallon bucket of pickled jalapeños to add to your food. If you're going to go here, only go when they have a deal going on like taco Tuesday when they have $5 margaritas. Their spicy margarita and fish tacos are the only thing that keep me coming back. I thing La Lupe has been actively working on their menu and advertising, so perhaps they will improve/expand their menu and overall restaurant experience. read more

The yelp reviews were a bit intimidating, but nobody is dying, so here goes: Pros: -tacos are great ( I ordered both shrimp and steak tacos). Great portions and packed with flavor. Not the best tacos I've had in my life but definitely good enough for me to return. -nice backyard area that's pretty comfortable with nice art on the walls. -friendly bartender/staff Cons: -their margaritas suck. They have this pre-made sour mix that they add in that totally kills the cocktail. Kitchen closes at 10pm - ****booooooo***** Eat here on May 3, 2015- The place looks nice but you order at the counter, they give you a number. So thought out the time you are there you have someone screaming numbers - obnoxiously loud so that anyone outside can hear the number. The queso fundido con chorizo came out with onions and sour cream on top. It was so oily and gross. I've been eating this my whole life and it was one of the worst I've eaten. The wraps that came with it even sucked. The chorizo was ground up and slices. I didn't care for it! The tostada was good but the tostada it self was so hard and not eatable. They serve your tacos burritos and tostadas on cheap paper plates. With all the sauce and "wet" items it soaks through and you get pieces of paper in your food. My friend and I found this restaurant marvelously fine. It was totally pleasant! The chorizo taco was amazingly flat with meat tasting like no other chorizo I have had. It was totally unexpected for a three dollar taco! Nothing but meat. The pork in the Posole was tender and sweet -- my favorite part of the meal. The radishes added a nice kick and the soup was thin -- the ideal model. There was a whole wedge of unsqueezed lime at the bottom - surprise! The burrito bowl was mushy. It made for easy chewing! Great for grandmas and babies alike. And with alcoholic drinks over ten dollars in bushwick, it is truly family friendly! I think the hot sauces were made in house. There was a smokey one and a fruity one. Neither of them were offensive! I liked that a lot! The bathroom was open concept - how Avant garde! I like that they use antibacterial soap and swinging doors for a shared urinal smaller than the size of most NYC closets with no light. At least it is gender neutral -- but hopefully gender non conforming folks also don't care much about privacy. This place poses steep competition for the cheap mom and pop local joints with large portions and friendly staff. Food was good, atmosphere wasnt as nice as we'd hope. Don't even think about the outdoor deck on a warm day, they have transparent plastic decking as rain cover, which magnifies the heat. This is my go-to neighborhood taco joint, and I'm especially grateful for their covered back patio during COVID times. I've tried the fish, calamari, and chorizo tacos, and they're all equally delicious! I love the crispiness of the calamari, and the chorizo is super flavorful that I don't even mind the sauciness of it making my taco a mess. I love that they top the tacos with sliced radish because it adds the perfect fresh crunch. The margaritas are delicious (especially passionfruit) and strong. About a year late reviewing La Lupe but just had to! I went on vacation to New York and stayed in Brooklyn @ an air bnb nearby. I must've ate at La Lupe 3+ times out of my 5 day stay. I was born & raised in Chicago an dining @ La Lupe made me feel sooo at home. I definitely wanted to make myself feel like a regular there even if I was only on vacation. Haha Food is flavorful + affordable, drinks are delicious, the interior decor is adorable & the ambience has a good energy flowing!! The entire staff is very friendly, attentive, and hardworking. I really loved sitting @ the cute bar as well. Also didn't realize this til my last visit @ La Lupe but you get free chips & salsa when you check in on Yelp! Hands down I will be returning to eat! The normal margaritas are great also and you cannot beat the $5 special. I thought the chorizo was my favorite until I had the carnitas, so now I have to get both. I recommend the burrito because its melty and delicious, but the tacos are also fantastic and you can get away with a meal for less the $10 as they are filling. I wouldn't come to the area solely for La Lupe, but since I'm already around a lot, I've been in here several times. In terms of the Bed-Stuy/Bushwick border, the location is pretty ideal since it's directly across the street from Bushwick Bazaar and less than a block away from the Myrtle Avenue/Broadway stop on the J/M/Z lines. My favorite things about this place are that they: a) carry Flor de Caña rum, which is the nectar of the Nicaraguan gods and my all-time favorite b) serve pretty damn good food- I'm a fan of the shrimp tacos, tostadas, and chips + guac c) have ample indoor and outdoor seating d) have pretty solid bartenders who are both knowledgeable and service-oriented My least favorite thing is the $15 credit card minimum. It's a small business, so I totally get it, but I'm generally put off by places that either don't accept cards or have minimums. To be honest though I usually spend $15 or more when I'm there anyway, so I guess it's not a huge deal. They do happy hour, which is an way to unwind awesome after a long day of work but before hopping on the train the home. I think drink specials might change, but generally speaking there are $5 regular margaritas and $6 flavored ones (tamarind, mango, passion fruit) that time. This is definitely one of my preferred bars in the area, and I'll keep coming back. read more
