We found a brochure for La Cueva Submarina dive shop in our Beach House. It is located in Isabela, Puerto Rico, near Playa Jobos. We were planning on going snorkeling, but as novices, and being aware of the rough surf and undertows, we were not comfortable going out without a guide. They did seem rather disorganized. Their webpage is outdated, and hasn't been updated in years. The brochure said to reserve a day ahead. When I called, no one answered, and the message was in Spanish. I was then called back from a different number, which was rather confusing. Eventually, I realized that it's a rather mom and pop operation, and the owner/manager was returning my call from his cell. We arranged for our snorkel trip for the next day. When we arrived at the shop, no one was there, and there was a sign on the door that said "gone scuba diving." The owner/manager showed up a short while later, and let us in. We filled out some brief paperwork. The price was $30 per person, but he let us pay $20, because we had our own gear. He also let us change into our swimsuits in their bathroom. They do appear to have all kinds of scuba and snorkeling gear available. Our guide, Pocho was great. He was a local surfer type, but knowledgeable. We followed him in our car to the beach (a 5 minute drive from the shop), parked, and walked to the beach. We snorkeled along the reef, with quite a strong current, but I felt comfortable and safe. It was just my husband and I, and our guide. We did seem to be in the water for quite a while. We drove back to the shop, where they again let us change in their bathroom. They didn't have a shower or changing room available. They also gave us little certificates after to commemorate our snorkeling adventure, which was nice. Overall it was great, and I would give it 5 stars if the organizarion and reservarion process was smoother. read more
