Our favorite little beach, close to Rincon. It's about a 2 min drive from the town area, but there is very limited parking. If you can get a place close to the beach, try to back in. It might be tough getting back out. We were there in the low season, so it wasn't too bad. But I understand it can get inaccessible. Most people park on the tiny road leading to the small parking lot; others park in the 6 or so spots off the main ride.
Either way, a short walk to the beach (maybe 20 yards), and our favorite place was a shady tree on the right. It's just this side of the "steps", which gives the beach its name. Take picture posing on the steps; everyone else does.
Snorkeling is great, and the reef was not slippery at all. The first time I visited, it was dusk, so I walked down the slightly sloping coral, and then surprisingly dropped off a 6' ledge. No harm done, but better to do it in daylight! Our visibly was poor to adequate, but I could see where it would be fantastic in clear conditions. Lots of big fish.
If you turn left when you walk to the beach from the parking lot, you'll pass some nice homes and hotels. More beautiful beach, corals, and diving. If you want to stay close to Rincon, this is the place.
But do venture out and head to beaches to the north in Isabella, and to the south in Cabo Rojo and Playa Ostiones. (We liked the northern beaches better. The south is very desert-like.) read more
