HORRIBLE SERVICE....TOTALLY DISAPPOINTING I try to give places the benefit of the doubt, but this place just didnt deserve it. Went for lunch with a couple of my coworkers...our lunch started off nice enough, but quickly went down hill when the food was delivered. I ordered the shrimp etouffee and so did my coworker. The first problem is that this joint does not have real silverware. The waitress brought our table plastic ware....I find it plain cheesy to expect patrons to use plastic utensils in a full service restaurant. Maybe its a preference, but methinks not. Secondly, the etouffee was supremely spicy. I love a good spicy dish, but this one was just overly done. My coworker is not a fan of spicy food, so she asked about switching her dish for something else. The manager was called over and she made her complaint. His response was "the menu states that the dish is spicy and if you want to change your order you will be subject to a 25% return fee." He then proceeded to point out that this information was printed on the menu. We actually thought this guy was joking, but he was dead serious. At this point he says in a condescending way, that he would let my coworker have another dish, but for future reference, it would be best to read the menu thoroughly before ordering. Dude, you have got to be kidding me! There wont be a future reference because we wont be returning. I have heard people rave about how good the crawfish is here, but frankly I wont drop a nickle to eat anything here. After my experience here today, all I see is a low class, low budget hole in the wall that isn't worth the wet mop they had stuck in the corner. read more

OK I am going to start with saying that I did not have Crawfish. But if you cannot do other dishes at least decently, they should not be on the menu. The place has a bit of an odor, but no deductions for that because it is a Crawfish restaurant and that should be expected. I had the fried shrimp which had more breading than shrimp. My coworker had the gumbo, which she said "not right". I would day the biggest advantage to this place is that if I wanted to drink during work I have absolutely no chance of seeing a coworker here. read more

Went here with the boyfriend because we had a $25 Restaurant.com gift certificate for LA Crawfish Shack (side note on the Restaurant.com gift certificates, those things are super tricky! READ THE FINE PRINT BEFORE YOU PURCHASE/USE). One thing I didn't like was the location, but what more can you expect from a crawfish place? All the decent crawfish places in Houston have to be located in a mildly sketchy area, so it's something you have to accept. It's a pretty big restaurant, so you probably won't have to worry about it being too crowded and claustrophobic like a few other crawfish places tend to be. I really liked our waiter, because he was very nice, but he was just really... slow. Haha. I think that English was his second language so it took a couple of tries to get him to understand what we wanted. But he was honestly very nice and attentive and checked up on us from time to time (without being too overbearing) and got everything I asked for immediately. The crawfish was solid. A mix of big ol' lobster-sized crawfish and of course some itty-bitty ones, so nothing too bad to complain there. The po-boy was A-OK to me, not anything to brag about but not something I'd throw up either. The fries were delicious, though, they had this nice crispy crunch to them. I know that sounds retarded, but I don't know how else to explain it. We got the étouffée, and I honestly don't know jack-squat about étouffée, but the boyfriend eats it a lot and he said it honestly wasn't very good, so I'll take his word for it. Especially since he's a virtual trashcan and devours everything, so if something isn't very good, then it isn't very good. All in all, it was an okay experience. I would came here frequently during this past crawfish season and I always enjoyed the food. Prices for the crawfish are very reasonable for crawfish season and the flavors and spices used were different. Definitely not Cajun but still very good. I like how the fuse different spices together. Shrimp boil is also tasty as well as the seafood baskets. I think this place could use some renovations. The booths look a bit outdated. And every time I've been there the servers seem to be pretty young but they are efficient. Also they charge extra for some things I believe should be a given. For instance why do I have to pay more to receive corn and potatoes, which should come with my crawfish? But whatever. I really don't understand why people would buy crawfish when it is not in season. It's just a 50/50 chance your taking on receiving small portions. So guys just don't take the chance. read more

I can't write everything that went wrong tonight without writing a book, so I'll try to make this as short as possible. The service my friends and I received tonight was terrible! The waitress was not at all attentive. The only time she came to the table and acknowledged us is when she was flagged down. She didn't even have any knowledge of the menu items. I asked if I could have the onions removed from the crab eggrolls and she said she didn't know and went to ask someone. That's no big deal, aside from the long time it took for her to come back and tell me no, however, she was asked about other food items as well and didn't know. She was asked if the bread pudding was warm. Her reply was, "I don't know. I don't know if we even have bread pudding." Then she was asked if the funnel cake is fried there in the restaurant or if it's already cooked and then warmed over. Her reply was "I don't know about that one either". After she received blank stares from the table, she said she'd go ask. There's more to it than just this that gets them a 1 star rating from me, but like I said, it would be too much to type. Just know that based on my experience tonight, the service is horrible. It was so bad that I asked the woman if today was her first day. She said "No". I know that seems like a rude question, but I asked because, if today had been her first day, I could understand the service not being that great, and she would have gotten a pity tip from me. Speaking of tips, printed on the bottom of our receipts, it says, "Please be kind and do not stiff your waiter." That read like a joke after the service we received. So they didn't feel that I "stiffed" my waiter, I wrote a note on their copy of the receipt so they'd know why no tip was left from me. The waiter was a nice woman. She didn't even get an attitude when I asked if it was her first day. I just couldn't leave a monetary tip after the poor service. She did get pity tips from everyone else at the table, but I felt that my note was a better tip and will hopefully help her in the future. P.S. My friends say the crawfish was really good. I don't know that it's worth the awful service though. read more

First off The place doesnt look bad from the ouside and the area isn't the best but you dont need watch your back just to eat here lol!! I went to eat there with my fiance on January 6, 2012. This was my second visit here. When we arrived there wasn't anyone there but the employees which I only saw two, so it was pretty dead. We ordered a few ponds of garlic medium spicy crawfish and they were a nice size only a few dead ones. The taste wasn't all that because the seasoning was on the outside of the crawfish and it didn't taste medium spicy to me. We ordered another batch but spicy this time and I could taste a bit more spiciness than the medium spicy, but not flavorful at all. I love crawfish and I've been to many different places to eat them and I still havent tasted better than Hank's Crawfish. They are the bomb, I must admit. I went here when they first opened- literally brand new where they were still testing out foods. It was okay- nothing jumped out at me... not even the crawfish. My boss continued to go here and one day I mentioned crawfish to her and she suggested we go for lunch. Okay, so you know that's not the best... eating crawfish and going back to work but you know, I was seriously craving and she insisted their crawfish was 'to die for' now so we went. The crawfish is pretty darn good! Seasoned well with the right kick of spice! Every table I saw had crawfish. It's a Vietnamese place so it's not the Lousiana flavored crawfish. Vietnamese crawfish is basically boiled and then taken out and tossed in their special sauce. DELICIOUS. This place is definitely up to par with the other crawfish joints that I frequent. Their catfish/shrimp baskets are good as well.. flavored well and a good quantity. read more

I went very late one night maybe 15-20min before they closed with a girlfriend of mine. We ordered lemon pepper wings, stuffed shrimp, and about 6lbs of crawfish. It was all so delicious because we were starving and other shops were so packed and busy. The waiter recommended the stuffed shrimp as it was a popular choice and it was yummy. The wings were a good size and seasoned well. The crawfish was very yummy in the spicy garlic sauce they toss it in. There were some really good big ones and medium size ones but it was definitely satisfying. I will definitely go back when im in the area. Sure beats the other usual chain spots. read more

Loved my crawfish! This was my first time here, shocked at how great it was. It's a little dirty, you can see from outside as you walk up the dirty windows with splatter on them. The tables are clean, but the floors are a bit dirty with food pieces. I ordered the crawfish, house medium, and they were excellent. Also, took a cup of red beans and rice to go. Me and my boyfriend are huge crawfish fans so we decided to give it a try. Their crawfish is very tasty. I got the mild and I liked it alot. The crawfish is NOT the reason I rate it 2 stars. I almost gave it 3 because our waitress was pretty nice but that may suggest I would return and I will not. The seating was shabby. I usually don't care about that because I like dives and hole in the wall places but their table/seating area just seemed dingy.Also, there was no ambiance at all - I think they had one TV in the back corner. I have been here on two occasions now, and I haven't been disappointed. $6.49 per lb of crawfish is an awesome price, and I adore the buttery garlic flavoring. 1 corn comes per 2 lbs of crawfish. As for sides, during my second trip I ordered a side of garlic toast and seasoned fries to soak up all the sauce and seasoning, while my fiance ordered red potatoes. The wait is minimal, and it's never gotten too crowded. That doesn't mean the food isn't good! It's delicious. Come here if you're craving crawfish and don't want to wait a long time! read more

My boyfriend ordered from this place again last week and you can truly taste the difference between their boiled crab and shrimp. I couldn't eat it. It's not fresh and the seasoning is not up to par with LA Fisherman or even the legitimate LA Crawfish close to 610. This place has a similar name but the food quality is not same. Been here many times and had nothing but good experiences but today was different. Despite the relative emptiness of the establishment(compared to other days at prime times like a Friday night) it took a while to get a server to our table. What I presume was the manager let us know that our server was busy in the back and would be with us in about 5 minutes, but that quickly turned to 15. To make matters worse, another server was sitting in a chair right next to our table using his phone(clearly on duty) I am aware that all waitstaff have there own tables and stations, but if you have nothing better to do then be on your phone, you can at least take our drink order or at the bare minimum just let us know our server will be with us soon. Apart from that it was fantastic as always, short wait time and great tasting food. We even got a free beer for our troubles. As we approach crawfish season, it is expected to pay about $6 a pound for crawfish. One pound of Crawfish with 2 potatoes, 1 corn, and 1/2 lb sausage ($11.86). Is it worth almost $12 a pound? Definitely not. It's not the best I've ever had, but not the worst. I found it to be just ok. Adding half a pound of sausage to a crawfish order cost $4. A bowl of seafood gumbo ($6) was ok, nothing to brag about and the grilled tilapia was salty and not worth $10.99, which was served with two whole broccoli florets and some old looking Spanish rice( can you say eewwww). I have no intentions on coming back to this particular location. It was $75. 14 down the drain. For $75, I could order a steak dinner. This place is affiliated with The infamous L.A. I work near this place and finally went today because a coworker could not get enough of LA Crawfish. It was only after arriving and seeing the disclaimer on the door that the LA Crawfish Shack I was at is not affiliated in anyway with the other LA Crawfish locations in town. I was there so I figured what the hell, I'll try it. Though the dark interior and right up front posting about not serving rude or obnoxious customers did give me pause, I went in. The waiter was polite and attentive. I ordered a fried crawfish poorboy, boudain balls and a michelada. While waiting for my food I discovered why they had the sign about obnoxious customers. They have some or at least one. The food was so-so. The boudain balls were actually better than the ones from Rajun Cajuin' imo but still nothing to write home about. I was apprehensive about the poorboy when I saw the crawfish (Rajun Cajun's are far and away better) but what saved it was the bread. It was really good, a light crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. The very best thing at LA Crawfish Shack and the only reason I might go back? The michelada.
