    Carnitas tacos

Food came out a little slow but that is to be expected since it was Viva Calle San Jose. The place has outdoor seating and is nothing fancy but it is comfortable. We had: Nachos - 6.5/10 - good healthy portions and tasty Carne asada tacos - 7/10 - these were good Carnitas tacos - 4.5/10 - underwhelming Shrimp burrito - 7/10 - good with nice flavors Good overall.

Wanted some ceviche for breakfast, you know how that goes. Did some research on yelp. Found La Costa. Went to La Costa for one un tostada de Cameron and 2 tacos, one pastor and one asada. The place was good. But not perfect. 4 stars

This does not look or taste like horchata.

What in the horchata is this?!? I hadn't been here for a bit, but boy did this establishment go down? Was this just a reallllly bad day? This horchata tasted sour, didn't look appetizing and when the drink sat on the counter it looks like this.... Like what?? And no I did not drink half of this. My husband and I split the drink in another cup since he's sick. And the burritos were just ok. Al pastor didn't have any pineapple, and the carne asada was meh. The only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because it was a good size burrito and the salsas tasted good.

    Shrimp ceviche tostada

La Costa has some of the best ceviche around -- definitely my favorite in the area! I've only tried their shrimp ceviche tostada so far, but nothing else around even comes close. The flavors are bright, fresh, and perfectly balanced. The tostadas are crisp and sturdy enough to hold all that ceviche goodness without getting soggy right away, which I love. I don't usually eat spicy food, so I really appreciate how accommodating they are. They're always happy to make it non-spicy for me without compromising the flavor. The portion sizes are generous, the value is great, and everything always tastes incredibly fresh. Pro tip - even if you dine in, you can ask them to put the ceviche in a to-go cup so it's less messy! They're no longer on DoorDash, which means we have to make the drive out -- but honestly, it's always worth it. If you're a ceviche lover, this spot is a must!

Located by the Mexican Heritage Plaza, I came here during an event at the plaza about a 5 minute walk. There's a lot of seating. Service was pretty dang quick. Thing is orders are called out in Spanish so it took me a few moments to understand that my order was ready. Pollo burrito (5/5): so delicious. Flavor was well balanced and good amount of sauce. I felt like it wasn't too dry which was good. Meat was super tender and juicy. Overall, La Costa is great. The food is delicious and service is quick.

    Fish Tacos

Five stars for their fish tacos! I've been a loyal customer for maybe 10 years now and La Costa's fish tacos are never a let down. Soft fish with a crispy batter. Always. They also always load their tacos with enough sauce and veggies. I haven't found another spot in South Bay that does fish tacos as good as them. Current pricing as of July 2025 is $4.50 per fish taco. I hear their burritos are also worth trying... maybe next time. Easy ordering and they accept card. All outdoor seating with bathrooms. Super friendly service!

Tostada de ceviche de camaron (shrimp ceviche tostada)

Hard to rate this one, because some items are great while others are straight misses. The good: The seafood was excellent. The shrimp ceviche was delicious and full of shrimp, though my friend's shrimp and octopus cocktail was 95% shrimp. The oysters were also big and fresh, and perfect with the hot sauce they have at the counter. Prices were also pretty reasonable for such large quantities of food. The bad: My shrimp burrito was flavorless. The shrimp were plentiful but plain, and I had to douse every bite in hot sauce to get any seasoning. The chicken nachos were also lacking, and the chicken was oddly sweet. Also strange was the way the nachos were arranged, with guacamole in one corner, cheese in another, and salsa in a third corner. It was like going around a game board, trying to get everything in one bite, but our chips broke each time we tried. It's in a sketchy part of San Jose (definitely watch your step on the sidewalk), but the seafood was very good. If they expanded the seafood menu a bit, they could compete with other similar spots in the area.

    Cecilia S.

DELICIOUSSSS food my cabeza burrito was so juicy and my horchata was perfect. The prices are super affordable and the staff is friendly. There's plenty of outdoor seating but it's only outdoor seating. Also, to go to the bathroom you need staff to open it for you and it could definitely be cleaner. Otherwise, a super solid place to go for affordable, quick, and delicious bites!

    4 el pastor tacos

I got 6 tacos: 4 el pastor and 2 lenguas. Service was pretty quick and the food didn't disappoint. I thought the music and the background kind of reminded me of Mexico! I would definitely come back some time.

5 stars simply because my most recent visit was so memorable. Thank you to the gentleman who handed off my sister & I's order- never have I experienced such kind customer service from any of my past experiences with La Costa. Granted, I don't come here for the service but it truly was such an unexpected treat. With my sister and I being able to squeeze in some girly QT, we made the decision to enjoy an early dinner. My sister had been raving and raving about La Costa's aguachile being an absolute must and I knew I couldn't go wrong since I could never pass up a good cocktele/ceviche. Parking was a breeze but do be advised that there were a few sketchy characters roaming the streets & premises. Mind yours and simply head to the registers. Per usual, the menu is largely posted with LC's offerings and will not disappoint the pickiest eaters. Purchases: -Large Aguachile [hold the crackers and requested for tostadas only] -Burrito De Carne [asada] The food was good. My only slight dissatisfaction applies to the asada. LC's asada isn't like anything I've ever had - no bad, just DIFFERENT. The spices they use to marinate/cook most definitely stands out a bit too much for my liking. Burrito itself was big in size and overall tasted fire alongside my sister's homemade jalapeños. Aguachile was AMAZING. My eyes were a lot bigger than my stomach!! The guy asked if I wanted a regular or super and I immediately went with the super and BOY!! That kicked me in the butt. Portions truly are massive and the same thing goes for the size of each shrimp. These babies aren't rinky dink!! They are plentiful, delicious, and oh so very sour- all the classifications that I love. 1000% recommended if you aren't squeamish about eating raw shrimp and love you a good puckering. I most certainly plan on coming back. The food here is too good to pass up!

    Taco de pescado
    Vanessa T.

Tostada mixta - a mix of shrimp, octopus, and imitation crab, was $18. Turns out there were several pieces of raw shrimp. That made me lose my appetite. Not enough vegetables/garnishes. And way too much fake crab. Not enough cilantro and onions on the tacos. Tortilla was cold. Wish the fish taco had more pico de gallo or salsa. Is it normal for the tortilla to be not be warmed? Torta bread is not toasted or warmed so it gave a very stale bite. Lots of hype for this place but for benefit of the doubt, maybe I went on the wrong day. It was a Sunday lunch.

    Amanda M.

I got their campechana which is a seafood mixed cocktail. The campechana came with imitation crab , one singular oyster, lots of plump shrimp, octopus, avocado, pico in a tomato juice type of sauce. It also came with tostada and crackers. It's reasonably priced for what you get. My order came out quickly, likely this seafood cocktail has already been premade.

    Lengua
    Quoc H.

Doordash Pick Up Order: Tortillas in both tacos were very meh (definitely not hand made) 6/10 Lengua Taco - Meat was kind of slimy and really soft. I thought beef tongue would have a bit more toughness. There was not much flavor as well because I think it might just be steamed/boiled. Hot sauces made up the flavor. 8/10 Fish Taco - Fish was not that crispy, but the it was still cooked well on the inside (tender and flaky). Batter was thin so it did not taste like all bread which was good. It could use more of the orange sauce for flavor. 8/10 Carnitas Burrito - Solid burrito in quantity and quality. Meat was not dry and ratio compared to rice was also good. Other fillings were about average.

Lots of take out orders and dine in orders. I ordered 5 super tacos to share with different meats (pollo, carne asada, al pastor, carnitas and chorizo). The super tacos come with cilantro, onions, avocado, sour cream, cheese and pico de gallo. All the tacos come with homemade corn tortillas - you could tell they were fresh. The tacos are big, not small at all. The carne asada, carnitas and pollo was my favorite. Al pastor was good as well, chorizo was not that flavorful for me. However, they also have 3 types of salsas (green, red and a creamy orange) you can use to help add some more flavor if needed. I plan to come back here to try their burritos and tortas as well next time.

The tacos were good and the tortilla they used was quite thick. The enchiladas had good flavor as well, and I would be interested in trying their enchilada with the verde sauce next time. Their prices have steadily risen over time and they have updated their menu prices as well. One thing that elevated this restaurant to 4 stars is their sauce! The red sauce and green sauce recipe is definitely unique compared to other taquerias. The red sauce bottle helps with the flavor tremendously and without it I would have rated this place lower.

We were seated at the booth in the back, which I have always admired, but I now realize it has its disadvantages. It is right by the bathroom, which got a bit of traffic on our visit. That's not such a big deal. The bigger concerns I have are: (1) there is no cushioning for those of us with little of our own and (2) you have to sit up fairly straight and if you want to lean against the wall, you're likely to rub shoulders with the wall hanging. Next time I will ask to be seated someplace else as there were two 2-tops outside. The food is always made from quality ingredients and I'm glad to see they are experimenting with pricing and quantity. I did not see mention of their daily happy hour, which was a feature of last year's visit so that may be gone. However, they now have a five tacos platter which offers relatively good value from the menu prices. This would be good for sharing for two people I think. But that is not what we ordered on this visit. My wife ordered two vegetarian (verduras) tacos and the Blood Orange/Jalapeno mocktail. I ordered the huevos rancheros. Unlike Luna, tortilla chips and salsa are not complimentary. So we let our appetites build. Our food arrived fairly quickly, so that was good and we dug in. My wife had ordered two extra eggs (extra charge) to accompany her tacos, and I think she was glad she did. The vegetarian tacos were not terribly generous for the price. My huevos rancheros came in a neatly stacked pile. My wife thought to ask if they had a hot sauce and they do! So we requested their hottest version. It was a welcome addition to the meal (gratis). A little vinegary, but plenty of heat. The mocktail was quite good. Like Spindrift and some other sparkling waters, it is not sweetened, but it had a good amount of strained blood orange juice, and you could taste the fresh jalapeño. I wonder if they have tried adding mint to this as I think it would be welcome. Maybe next time I will ask if they can experiment with me by adding some mint.

Once we were served we were never checked up on until the end when we had to flag them down to get the check. I don't think we'll be coming back.

This made it so seamless to reserve here. Our group got there at opening and our table was ready and most of the group was already seated when we got there. Drink orders were flowing as the waitress caught up to me and I got a cafe de olla. We browsed the menu and the more I looked the harder it was to pick one thing. I ended up choosing chilaquiles with a bandera sauce and carne asada as the added protein. The rest of the table got all different types of dishes from carne en su jugo to birria to omelettes. While we enjoyed each other's company sipping on our cafecito I enjoyed the ambiance of the space. Nicely decorated for the holidays. Since it was opening time it wasn't as loud as I imagine it can get in there. The sun did shine on the faces of those facing the windows which was not enjoyable for them. There was no way to cover the sun either since it was coming in from the top windows with no shade. My food came out along with the rest of the plates and we went right in to enjoy them. My favorite chilaquiles was covered in the white sauce. The red and green were good but the white sauce was my favorite. The carne was cooked well but I could taste it wasn't marinated or lacked flavor. I didn't get a knife to cut the meat so it was very difficult to enjoy a piece with my chilaquiles. It was hard to cut with a butter knife. I thought it would be a piece of steak but it was a piece of carne asada. Eggs were scrambled and cooked well. The whole plate was filling, had flavor, and was a good portion. The cafe de olla had a good flavor but a tad sweet for my preference. The space in here is a vibe. A fun place to enjoy large gatherings. I came for breakfast but will update when I come back to visit for dinner. Bathrooms are clean. Staff was welcoming and efficient in taking care of our group. Hospitality was a 10/10. Parking in the am was a breeze but at prime time I can see it being a complete nightmare so plan accordingly. I enjoyed my visit and will come back to check out the dinner menu.

Sip Happens... and So Does a Solid Taco Night…read more My husband, daughter, and I were in the mood to shake things up with margaritas somewhere new, and our daughter pointed us toward Copita Tequileria y Comida. As we cruised by looking for parking, it was clear we had picked a lively spot--buzzing energy everywhere: inside, outside, and even upstairs. We were quickly seated indoors, though on such a beautiful day we assumed we'd be offered outdoor seating. No big deal--we asked, and they happily moved us to a shaded table with plenty of space. Much better. Drinks were first on the agenda: margaritas and a michelada, all refreshing and exactly what we were hoping for. Our server, Michelle, was friendly, attentive, and even shared some helpful tips about perks with our American Express Platinum Card--a nice, unexpected touch. We kicked things off with queso fundido, though a brief mix-up brought us chips and guacamole from another table first. Once we pointed it out, it was quickly handled--but honestly, it looked so good we ended up ordering it anyway. No regrets there--it definitely hit the spot. We hadn't planned on a full dinner, so we went with lighter bites. The tuna tostadas and halibut ceviche were a hit--fresh, flavorful, and perfect for sharing. I went with the tortilla soup, which was good and nicely presented... but didn't quite wow me. I've been on a bit of a tortilla soup tour lately, and this one leaned a little heavy on the tortillas (soaking up too much broth) and had more zucchini than I expected. That said, major points for serving it piping hot--something a lot of places miss--and the avocado was a great addition. One thing worth noting: I didn't catch it until later, but there's a 4% living wage surcharge added to the bill--and it's taxed. That caught me off guard, and I'm still not entirely sure how that works in California. Overall, a fun, energetic spot with great drinks, tasty bites, and solid service. Not perfect, but definitely good enough to come back for another round.

I'm still thinking about the carnitas weeks later. We got the size recommended for 2 people and it did cost about $115 (including tax &tip). Our waitress was so polite and attentive. She made sure to ask if we had any allergies or dietary restrictions. The atmosphere is lively and inviting. I would love to come again and sit inside the restaurant, but the patio was perfect.

It was busy at noon on a Saturday, but fortunately they have a large tented outdoor dining area, in addition to the regular indoor restaurant, to accommodate everyone. I was almost immediately seated and given water and chips and two types of salsa. Both were too spicy for me, but the chips tasted good. I ordered the steak salad, which is what I've had every time I've dined at the Pruneyard location. It was very good, although the steak portion was teeny tiny. That was disappointing. But the greens were fresh and delicious and I loved the fresh avocado and roasted corn on top. Even the salad dressing was perfection. A few random notes: My waiter was running around like crazy trying to help all of the diners at his tables, but still came by and checked on me a couple times. The restaurant is LOUD despite being outside. They allow dogs on leashes outside. The dedicated parking lot is small, but I was able to find a spot. I didn't notice much of a difference between the two locations other than the small size of the steak at the Alameda restaurant. I would go back to either location.

The meat was perfectly cooked, moist and No Chunks of fat at all, and there was plenty of meat as well, mixed with a perfect bit of rice & beans, cheese, a tiny bit of avocado (I always have extra at home for this + sour cream) and the dough is pleasantly thin. I throw this in a counter top oven, and while heating, the dough becomes wonderfully crisp... Ohlala. The restaurant itself is clean, inviting, big windows all around, an impressive bar, and several TV screens that however, makes it on the noisy side. Always a lot of families there, seeming to enjoy all different kinds of wonderful dishes. I got two meals out of this heavenly Burrito, and I will definitely recommend this place.

Staff was quick to take our orders and clean up. Corn tortillas are used for the tacos. The ingredient description for food options is concise and also descriptive to let people know what to expect. They serve soft, regular, and crispy tortillas at this chain. The carne asada was on the drier side when I had it this time. Definitely had juicier meats here in the past. The tortilla was a little crispier than I remember for the regular tacos. Will be back at this location or at the others since it's one of the popular choices in SJ!
