I eat here all the time and would definitely recommend it for the food I gave 3 stars because of shady business practices I ordered the lunch special like I do so often since the restaurant is close to my office, and the last two times I didn't receive a soup/salad so obviously I was in a rush on my lunch break and it wasn't a focus well today I had time I called and asked and I was told "yes all of the lunch specials do come with a soup/salad but we don't offer it unless you specifically ask for it" to me that's really janky business because it's already what I am paying for why hold it back from me of hide it just ask if I want it some folks will say no most will say yes. This was my first time enjoying a meal from here. I got a to go order. Shrimp scampi , fried cheese and garlic bread. I would first like to point out the kind and sweet greeting from the bartender on the phone and when I went to get my order. You can tell she really liked where she was working. Now to the meal.... the food is amazing. It was warm which is a treat since It can be iffy on to go meals. The spices were just right. Every bite had a richness that was made with love. Went for dinner on the first night of a quick weekend trip. Service was exceptional. Our waiter, Dominic, was the best and most entertaining. We thoroughly enjoyed him. Our food was delicious and the wine went perfectly with everything. The Pretty in Pink drink was great. The Peaches and Cream was great. The Sweet Spiked Sangia could have been better. It was very sweet and was thick almost like syrup. But overall, a great meal, service, and awesome experience! read more

My lunch came submerged in the Balsamic & Olive Oil that was delivered to me for lunch because my food was not packaged properly. When contacting the restaurant with my hands completely submerged in olive oil all over my work space, I was informed this is normal. This was my 1st and last experience at this restaurant. I wanted to get my son some pizza for lunch today, we stumbled upon this place. It looked really nice from the outside and the reviews were decent so we tried it, I wish we hadn't. We literally had to wait for everything. Not busy at all, no hostess in sight for several minutes. When we finally were seated I ordered a glass of wine...never got it. I ordered the lunch Chicken Parmesan and my son a cheese pizza. The price was great! $8.95 & $9.95. The Parmesan included a basic salad that was decent. The pasta sauce was okay, both the chicken and cheese were rubbery. I don't waste food so I ate it and made my son eat his, he just ate the cheese. No water refills, no check in from the waitress, nothing. Never saw our waitress again, not even to bring the check. I left cash on the table and we left. The restaurant had four/five tables seated the afternoon we were there. Not busy at all. The food was okay. Ceasar salad & bread outstanding! Should have stopped there. My chicken meal was vastly over-cooked, dry & tasteless. My husband's chicken parm required quite some knife work. Maybe microwaved? But my real issue is with the service. Our server brought the meals maybe 10 minutes after our salads arrived. None of us were ready for the entree. Instead of taking them back to the kitchen, he proceeded to place them on the table wherever he could find a space. My husband's plate was literally hanging off the table. No apologies whatsoever. Manager "checked" on us, but only cursory. You'd think he'd notice my iced tea glass was empty, and he turned away before I could point it out. We had to wave down the young man to get more drinks. Dirty dishes/glasses were left on table unless you asked him to take them. There were other issues with the server, but this review is long enough... I want to like this place. It's very convenient. This little hidden gem Italian restaurant near bocage is awesome!! Never disappoints, the tour of Italy is my favorite! My boyfriend loves the calzones! To begin with don't believe their commercials this is not a fine dining restaurant. It's a nice re that serves pretty good food. Secondly, the place pretty much shuts down at 8:30 PM even though the hours say open until 10:00 PM. My wife and I went to the restaurant as an afterthought when the nicer restaurants didn't have any reservations until after 9:00 PM. The wait was short and we sat at a bar table. The food was decent for this type of restaurant actually better than I really expected. The wait staff was mediocre at best. The issue came up when at 8:30 our waitress began cleaning up, clearing out tickets and getting ready to leave. There was no time for another glass of wine or a dessert. Ok, so you guys really close at 9:00PM on a Friday night, geez. My wife called the manager to offer her opinion, nothing expected as far as refunds are anything, just an FYI. The manger was more rude than the wait staff and couldn't focus on anything except asking what we wanted which was absolutely nothing. She went on to say most of their customers do leave by 8:30 which was clearly true. I thought the hours were until 10:00 or I would have gone to a nice restaurant after 9:0 PM had I known. If you do go go early and be gone by 8:30 PM on a Friday night. With the attitude there a restaurant I won't visit again. read more

Have been here once a few years ago with great memories of their lemon mascarpone cake! Today, that memory came back and I decided to get takeout with another slice of lemon mascarpone cake. Entrees ordered was the taste of Italy (lunch), appetizers of mussels and bread sticks. The mussels and breads sticks were good. The taste of Italy was well balanced with its choices. I took my mother and wife here for an early mothers day dinner. First time here. The decor and wait staff are top notch. We had crab cakes for the appetizer. They were good, much different than any i have had before. The crab did not stand out in my opinion. They served garlic rolls with the appetizer, very good. Second course was a Caesar salad. The salad was dressed well. I thought the dressing was missing flavor, like the anchovy paste was missing. The main course i had the pollo la contea. Excellent dish. I cleaned that bowl. We brought our family after Thanksgiving because we wanted the grand children to experience Jim singing. La Contea is another great addition to the Italian food scene in Baton Rouge. The menu features old world dishes similar to those you might find at Gino's or even Olive Garden. The set up is similar to what you see at fine dining restaurants. The food is fine, if that's the kind of thing you like. I tried everything on the table and nothing blew me away. I do not know if they make handmade pasta or not, but I would guess they do not based on the texture, etc. The prices are pretty much what you'd expect or maybe a bit high, depending on what you plan to order. Where La Contea really shined for me was in service. When we first arrived, the service was great and the manager/other employees were checking in on us regularly. As the evening went on and the dining room filled up, the service became less attentive. On Yelp, 3 stars means "A-OK" and that's exactly how I felt afterward. I'm not clamoring to go back, nor would I turn it down if a friend suggested it. One note: we had dinner on a Thursday which meant we were serenaded all evening with a live singer performing classic songs à la rat-pack; this was a nice touch, but meant it was pretty loud in the dining room. read more

Popped in on an early Saturday evening with no reservation and was seated immediately. Great space for larger parties and highly enjoyed the piano player in the bar area which catered to the ambience. It was hard for me to pick just one entrée but settled on the "Pollo Pizziola"- which was recommended by the wait staff and consisted of chicken, artichokes, red peppers, & goat cheese in a pink sauce. Which was alfredo & their red sauce mixed. The flavors complimented each other perfectly & the chicken was not dry or overcooked. Large portion sizes with plenty of leftovers. Also served with salad & garlic knots (same bread dough as the pizzas). The prices are very reasonable for a more semi-formal venue. I hate giving bad reviews, but I'm honest. I was so excited to try this new place that has great reviews. However, I'm extremely disappointed. I made reservations, short wait at front, time to ogle over the dessert tray. I couldn't wait to try one. But more on that in a minute. We were abruptly seated, given menus. Then waited a little bit for our waitress. She walked away with our drink order before I could tell her we wanted an appetizer. She brought water.... walked away again. Wait some more. I finally get my drink. By this time I'm annoyed. The menu doesn't explain what each dish is and she didn't seem interested in explaining it. Luckily I had looked online while waiting and could see what they were. Btw, no customer should have to do this... ever. Either have it on the menu or train the staff to explain or be willing to. We ordered the fried cheese. She at the same time took our dinner order. This worried me... and I was right. We got our salads fairly quickly, which btw isn't included with your meal, its extra. Still waiting on our appetizer, we ate our very bland, wilted almost, Caesar salads. This was def bagged lettuce, or old. Finally get our apps. My fiance is thirsty because our waitress has failed to see he's out of water. The fried cheese is definitely yummy! The marinara sauce is delicious. I thought maybe things were looking up. Our empty salad bowls are piled up on the edge of table and she finally checks on us. He eventually gets more water. Our entrees come out and we have to make room because of the empty dishes piled up, sigh. Now, the food was pretty good. Great portions, good flavor. I really wish they'd offer fresh grated cheese though. At this point I'm really confident that this might be ok after all. Not quite. Besides the complete lack of concern by Yona, I was still trying to be optimistic. It took forever for her to come by and check on us. We were well past finished. My drink was empty, sitting at edge. She brought a take out box after I flagged her down. We were anxious to order dessert, but that would have to wait until her next pass by. Finally ordered the creme brulee. My drink is still empty and Yona has run off again. Great. The creme brulee arrives. She whisks off... my drink still empty. I flag her down and I'm beyond annoyed at this point. Now, the creme brulee. Has to be, hands down, the WORST, MOST FOWL creme brulee I've ever passed across my lips!!! A spoon should not stand up on its own in the ramekin. The sugar was overheated and very burned tasting. DISGUSTING! I finally get my drink halfway through what could only be compared to a flavorless, old, poorly prepared cheesecake. Cause this was definitely not creme brulee. We're just ready to pay and leave. Looking around, no Yona in sight. Then I see her. Standing up front, leaning on the wall, laughing and giggling with about 4 other workers. Really?? After paying we left shaking our heads. I have no desire to go back if this is how they treat diners. And they really need lessons on that dessert. I hope they get it together! read more

Happened to see the billboard that they just opened and gave it a try for carry out. Formal Italian restaurant with everyone dressed in black and white. I ordered spaghetti with mushrooms and a spaghetti with meatballs. We've ordered spaghetti and meatballs from everyone in town as it is a favorite. This one ranked among the best. Served with delicious garlic knots. The spaghetti is apparently first tossed to lightly coat every piece of pasta, the top of the pasta is then covered with the marinara sauce. Will definitely be back. Like the fact that they had the marinara and mushroom option and another dish that is a medley of vegetables and marinara over pasta. read more

My friend and I stumbled upon this place after we tried to eat at Eliza's for lunch and it was a 40 min wait. We were so glad we did! We sat in the bar area and were immediately greeted by Anthony (I think) who took great care of us! We ordered off the lunch menu which had lots to choose from for a low price of $7-8! Each item came with a house salad and garlic knots (so good) and nice size portions of the entree. I had to take my Baked Ziti home! After reading so many raving reviews I had to check it out. I missed out on the affordable luncheon menu, walking in Saturday morning shortly after 11. I'm a pretty basic eater, so I ordered the spaghetti and meatballs. Good portion. Satisfying. The service was somewhat slow and shouldn't have been since they just opened. The decor was refreshing. Not overdone. Classy but not snobby. I learned it was designed by the owner and the manager. Nice table settings. No decision if I will make a return visit though. read more

I drove 3.5 hrs to Baton Rouge to have a confusing/worrisome appointment at Our Lady of the Lake. While waiting, I Googled where I could get linguine with clams (my comfort food) and La Contea popped up. Perhaps Our Lady was involved because I had the best linguine with clams I have had in YEARS! I arrived when it wasn't busy and I could have easily been fed and sent on my way; however, (I'm so sorry I didn't get names) I ended up feeling like I was a regular. The young woman who took my order was very sweet and the way she pronounced "Linguine Vongole" made it even more wonderful. The clams were plump, juicy fellows, and the white wine sauce was perfect! I also chatted to a young man (perhaps the owner/manager?) who let me ramble on and on about places I've lived while I dug into my favorite meal. I left Baton Rouge in a much better frame of mind than when I drove in. I have found it to be a rare restaurant that genuinely takes an interest in their clientele while offering A++ food . . . La Contea does just that. I hope the chefs in the back and my two new friends in the front know just how much I appreciated my time there. Thank you for a wonderful meal and conversation. read more

Wow! Stopped in just to check out the new most fabulous Resturant in Baton Rouge La Contra Italiano Ristorante on Jefferson Hwy. The atmosphere just amazing Friday and Saturday nights they have a piano player. The menu has a wide variety of Italian food to choose from. I got the mussels and garlic knots, What can I say the best I've ever had. My husband ordered the pizza. You can tell it was made with the freshest ingredients. This is literally the worst Italian restaurant we have been to in years. We are from the land of Italian greatness (Chicago) I'm used to a nice fresh bread, the bread was fresh, but doughy and more like a cheap frozen dinner roll with garlic on it. I ordered a pasta dish with penne it was served with spaghetti. But the sauce was ok He ordered a clam fettuccine. He will literally buy clam sauce out of a can mix his pasta with butter and put the clam sauce in and he still thought this fresh clam sauce was terrible. This restaurant is incredible!! Only been there twice but was knocked out by the food , the price, the atmosphere and the service. I must have passed this place a billion times and never saw it. It is off the street but sitting right there as you turn in. The staff is very professional, helpful and friendly. The manager comes by often and oversees all that is going on. I LOVE Italian food and this spot does not disappoint. The salad starter was chilled and crispy fresh. The Caesar salad is topped with shaved Parmesan and has croutons that are fresh and tasty. I am a simple man. When I find something I like I stick with it. I have had the Chicken Alfredo both visits. The entree was large and the plate and pasta were very hot. The flavor was spot on and seasoned correctly. My buddies got the spaghetti with meatballs and they raved over the flavor of the sauce and the meatballs. One friend had the Veal and said it was fantastic. They offer what they call the Tour of Italy and it looks very tasty also. They serve the meal with unique rolls and a dipping sauce of olive oil loaded with herbs and spices. We never had to wait for anything. The staff is intuitive and ready to provide whatever is wanted or needed before you even ask. The lunch prices are unbelievable! I have heard the desserts are phenomenal....
