Love this local addition! La Colombe is an incredibly beautiful cafe. Sleek, open layout, with floor-to-ceiling windows. Andersonville location was a long time favorite. Now with one in the neighborhood, it's becoming a great spot in the morning for a cup to sit and read a paper with, or to take for a local stroll. Thrilled to have La Colombe! Love La Colombe but the Armitage location has the rudest staff. Every morning I would grab coffee but I am not exaggerating when I say I would always "hi" or "thank you" and would never get a response. All you have to respond is "you're welcome" or "have a good day." It seems like a "hipster" facade they need to uphold and act superior... it's not cool to be impolite. read more

Ash nazg durbatulûk. This means "One ring to rule them all" in the Black Speech of Mordor. If I knew the Black Speech of Mordor, I would title this review "One Coffee Shop to Rule them all." But I don't know the Black Speech of Mordor, so here we are. This is a beautiful coffee shop, inside and out. Total marriage material. Knowledgeable, enthusiastic staff who are helpful to those with and without a high coffee IQ. Great coffee. In the summer, although it's available year round, I'd recommend the Black & Tan, which is their cold brewed coffee topped with their draft latte, which is pure nitro milky goodness. The rest of the year, I'm torn between suggesting a workshop cortado and one of their Silverton pour-overs. The workshop cortado will be two ounces of lightly roasted single origin espresso topped with two ounces of perfectly steamed milk. It's the best 4 ounces you'll consume this year. They make their pour-overs on a neat device called the Silverton. They use the best coffee in the joint for these. They take about 5 minutes, but they're worth the wait. Delightful stuff. A few things to know: they are a coffee shop, not an Internet lounge that happens to serve coffee. What I'm trying to say is that they don't have WiFi. The focus is on the coffee and espresso. They don't use external flavor shots, e.g caramel, hazelnut, vanilla, etc. From what I hear, they feel these distract from the flavors naturally existing in their fine coffee. If you're used to drinking sweetened coffee, this is the place to go to dive into the wonderful world of high end coffee without breaking the bank. read more

This is easily my favorite coffee shop in Chicago, but I'm biased. I've never tasted a tea as delicious as the genmaicha green tea. It's got toasted brown rice in the tea bag, the flavor is bold and nutty for a tea. And it tastes even better when it's served in a fun cup that is Instagram worthy when posed on their rich, wooden tables. As a student, I like to come here to study. The only negative is that there isn't wifi. But I get around this by bringing reading material to sift through while I relish my little taste from heaven. read more

Staff is so rude. Just one example: They have biscotti with tongs next to it, so I picked up the tongs to get a biscotti and they literally ripped the tongs out of my hands. Lots of other examples. Sad, because I like their drinks and baked goods better than Starbucks, just brace yourself for rude behavior. read more

This place has one of the best Coffee selections from Cold Brews to Mochas. The Baristas are super nice and quick. This particular location in Lincoln Park, has excellent service, the architecture of the place is very clean and modern. I recommend for anyone who likes Blueberry muffins to try Colombe's Blueberry Muffin that kinda looks like a French Canele, It's solid. During the summer there is a Cold Lemon Brew that is really light for the hot days. read more

This is just my opinion so I am expressing it freely. This neighborhood coffee shop seems to be lacking in just about every regard. Though the service is cheerful, the ordering is disorganized and they should take a note from Starbucks about writing peoples names on cups. They just call out what the drink is when ready, and make it very confusing because half the time they get the quantities of the drinks ordered wrong...... The atmosphere is dark and unwelcoming, there is nothing special about the space in the old mailboxes etc. location. On recent warm day it was almost as hot inside as it was outside. The cold cascara coffee was diarrhea inducing and I should have known better than to order something that's normally sold as a laxative. Why the hell would you sell a drink that's actually a potent laxative? My guest and I both had explosive diarrhea after this. In addition don't feel like you'll get any amenities such as those shown on the menu pictures, as they don't even have lemon. The service area doubles as their espresso bar, seriously! With so many better choices for coffee in the area I will not be stopping there at any point soon. read more

This cafe has a sleek but generic look overall. Also, due to space constraints, it is much more cramped than their location in Andersonville. The staff was helpful, friendly, and seemed to share a camaraderie which is refreshing in itself. I like La Columbe's coffee, and in particular I like to order the Pure Black or the Black and Tan. Love the friendly and comfortable atmosphere at La Colombe. Though seats are usually packed with people who look like they're doing ~serious business~ things, it's a great spot to stop and chill for some really great coffee. Great lighting while staying warm and cozy and some solid, vibey background sound traversing along the lines of Amy Winehouse and Drake. If wifi is your top priority, you'll have to settle for the Starbucks a few blocks up. But if you just need your phone charged for a while, the baristas are AWESOME and will charge it in the back for you. Customer service parallels the quality of the coffee for sure. read more

La Colombe locations are across the board a bit fancier in decor than you're used to out of coffee, and this one's no exception. The coffee is always fresh and excellent, and despite being popular there's usually some individual seating available: Most in the neighborhood prefer to grab and stroll. It's pricier than typical espresso/coffee options like you'd expect, but it's a great spot for some fancier-than-usual coffee, with a great walk-up location not terribly far from the Armitage CTA station. read more

the staff is ridiculously "cool" - no customer service - no "thank you", no "may I take your order" - they talk to each other but apparently they view customers as unworthy of their full attention. Could easily be fixed with some training and coaching but not until the culture of "we are too cool to care" stops. read more

They don't have wifi. My best guess is that this is an attempt to create more of a "screenless" atmosphere. That's fair. However, I also think it would be fair to post the no wifi thing visibly so that people know what they're getting into. I paid $6 for a drink, found a spot, got my laptop ready, and THEN was informed that there is no wifi. No explanation given. Just "sorry, we don't have it." Um, OK...now I'm off to find a place that does have wifi (like the public library, which also happens to be free), and my chances of ever returning here are very slim. read more

I understand that the location is not huge and that they want to the location to be a place of conversations rather than the usual place of study. If you take them at their word, this is done for the purposes of encouraging a culture conversations. If you're more cynical, you start wondering whether this is done for financial reasons. Regardless, this location seems to be a poor fit for such a culture plus a good portion of the shop was on the internet with the easy accessibility of xfinity wifi at the location anyways. The coffee and service were fine but coffee shops today especially in locations like Lincoln Park should be focusing on what the clientele needs and a coffee shop without wifi is close to useless. read more

FINALLY...the wait is over. I have a serious black and tan addiction and this Lincoln Park outpost is perfectly situated in my hood. Although I was able to get my fix at Summer house over on Halsted, this atmosphere has more hipsters and less strollers. You over on an ipad and there is a small selection of pastries. You see your coffee being made and it comes out perfect. The space is small, but the people watching is top notch. Welcome to the hood! read more

La Colombe is a solid local coffee chain (it is a chain, I think?). They make a pretty good espresso, and have a wide array of options if you're into the sweet stuff. It's no Intelligentsia, but who is? It's definitely the best coffee shop on Armitage. read more

Good addition to the neighborhood but some major downsides here such as short hours and a rather sterile environment. La Colombe built this place to be a Euro style espresso enjoyment format. i.e. take your coffee to sit, have a short chat, and leave. No plugs for people wanting to sit and work, recharge, etc. I understand why they did this to keep seats turning over but I also don't like the format for the neighborhood. If it was Michigan Ave, I'd support the idea but this is Lincoln Park where the shopping and walking is much slower. I'll be back for a delicious coffee but far less frequently than if you'd made this comfortable for my butt. read more

I will always go out of my way for La Colombe. So what if it's a 40-minute round-trip walk on my hour lunch break? Give me that black iced coffee every day of summer, please. This spot -- like every other location they have that I've been to -- is consistently clean, bright, and unpretentious. Lines move quickly and every employee is great. I almost wish they had a rewards program or a punch card. My heart always breaks a little with those receipt emails. read more

Got some ice coffee here today. Pretty good coffee tasted very smooth and not too dark. Only issue with the place was price (3.25 for a meh sized cup), but it's hipster coffee bar so what do you expect; however, one the baristas sassed me when I was having fun and pronounced "La Colombe" wrong. I'm a fan of the Wicker Park La Colombe, so I was excited to hear about the new shop in Lincoln Park. Same great coffee and very friendly staff. I was slightly disappointed by the short hours though. I was meeting a friend after work, and we actually took our coffee to-go, then went to the Starbucks down the street to catch up. Came here and got a cold brew. While, I wouldn't say that there was anything special about the cold brew itself (priced at $3.50), I loved the oat milk that they had out as a alternative milk creamer. I had never had oat milk with my coffee before and this was the first time that I've ever seen it at a coffee shop. It has a great consistency and a nice creamy taste. I really want to come back to try the tan and black on draft! read more
