This was my first time in Florence, and the first place we went to was all booked. We stumbled upon this place and gave it a try, and back was a good time! We came into a place with a relaxed atmosphere, and lots of American oldies music - i was already a fan! First off: wine. We got a bottle of Chianti to kick the night off. Pretty solid choice! In our party we ordered the risotto pasta and a different pasta with a ragu/wild boar sauce. I had the risotto, which didn't do it for me because it was a little underflavored, however the ragu pasta my friends had was amazing. Do try that if you go there! The piece de resistance was definitely the pistachio cheesecake. Soooo good, and totally worth it! We got a round of limocello from the owner, which is was my first time trying it. Also not my favorite, but we appreciated the gesture. We also got a chance to hang out with the owner, who's super personable and fun to talk to! This beautiful and spacious spot caught my attention. I think it must have been the gorgeous black decor of the place, very modern looking and super cute. The staff was friendly and understood English. They also have the American breakfast for those of you looking to have a sit down egg and toast with coffee type of breakfast. I had a croissant which was fresh, soft, sweet and warm with an espresso. If you are looking for booze, they also have that here. They have wine, champagne, a large variety of liquor and more than enough desserts to order. Great spot to hang out with and look at if you are in need of a break from roaming around. Steak in the city of Florence is apparently a must. Tourists and locals alike have a variety to placed to choose from but with all the choices comes the stress of picking the right place to. Thank goodness I have my handy dandy Yelp in which helped me I find La Cocotte, a more than great option for some Florentine beef! At first I wasn't sure if this could and would be "the one" as it was located off a busy street and a nice man outside approached and encouraged us to take a look (I'm always wary of these being tourist traps). But the menu looked good and they had lasagna too, which my dad loves, so we walked in and gave it a shot! The server was really helpful off the bat and answered all our questions about what the best steak options were, how big portions were, and more. Between my dad and me, we shared the fillet with gin and white pepper (recommended by our server), lasagna, and grilled veggies. It was more than enough and we loved them all! The steak was cooked medium rare with a light pink middle and was soooo tender! Also the gin and pepper taste came out quite nicely as well. It was definitely one of the best pieces of beef I've had in a while! The fried potatoes and 2 other sauces were a great compliment too! The lasagna wasn't overly cheesy and just the way we liked it! The grilled veggies included zucchini, eggplant, peppers, and carrots were charred nicely though it needed some olive oil and balsamic to really make it shine, which they happily provided. My dad not only got his steak cravings satisfied, but a meal that he could remember for a very long time. And for me, I could easily say the same! So far I have only been here during the morning hours when they offer their breakfast special, which is until 11:30am. I have been a regular customer at their Via Gioberti location for some time now, but I have found that this new location way surpasses that of the original. It is almost twice as big and has fantastic natural lighting and is much more spacious. I always take my coffee to the back room that is filled with sky lights. With free wifi I stay here for hours and get work done on my computer or read a magazine. The staff is very friendly and one day I have to come here for lunch. This is a great place to come alone or in groups as they have larger tables up to 8 people (maybe more). As for the breakfast, it's good. Coffe is good, only thing is ... i have found that occasionally their morning pastries are a little stale. It's a hit or miss for me. Sometimes they are great, fresh. And a couple times I think the pastry i chose was possibly a day old... ? didn't taste fresh. Anyways, I still come here regularly for the coffee. Great chill out vibe, fantastic place to hang out if you are waiting for your train, as it is right around the corner from the central station. read more

We had to try Florentine Streak while we were in Firenze. L Cocotte did not disappoint. We started with a charcuterie board then ordered the La Chianina Steak which came with fries. The steak comes one way, with a range of rare to medium well throughout the plate. We ordered a side of lasagne that came in a plastic covered pot type of "dish." What a breakfast surprise. We arrived jet lagged with hungry kids, and this place was not what we expected, but turned out to be perfect. We arrived at around 11 am hoping for an Italian lunch, but it was still breakfast, which worked well for us. They have American and English breakfast, which was very good. Great eggs, the croque monsieur was great, and the coffee...oh, the coffee. This was a nice transition for our kids to begin eating in Italy with a menu that was somewhat familiar. Un bellissimo bancone, gli orologi dalle diverse grandezze alle pareti, le bottiglie a vista e la vetrata all'ingresso danno al locale un'aria internazionale. Nonostante la grande confusione su via Nazionale, all'interno l'atmosfera e' molto rilassata anche grazie alla bellissima musica lounge. Un personale molto gentile mi accoglie e in maniera molto cordiale risponde alle mie domande sul locale. Il menù della Cocotte e' davvero ampio, dalle zuppe bio ai primi piatti, dagli hamburger alla pasticceria, dalle insalate alle birre e ai vini. Sono però venuto per un dolce e quindi dopo una rapida occhiata alle diverse opzioni, senza indugio ordino una cheesecake ai pistacchi di bronte ed un cappuccino alla cannella. The food however, was only so-so. The logo of Cocette is really cute with the covered pot, so there's an expectation of things cooked in an oven. The dishes came out in these mini covered pots, but they are microwavable plastic. I only mention this because the lasagna ordered tasted like it was microwaved, with chewy spots on the noodles. Our family shared 1kg of perfectly seared Chianina brought to the table with a giant sparkler! The salads were fresh and crisp and the potato tortellini came with a generous serving of ragu. The wine by the glass selection was good. For dessert we got the panna cotta, bavarese al cioccolato bianco and the tiramisu. The bavarese and tiramisu we're especially good. The tiramisu was super creamy. The wait staff were very friendly and accommodating with our modifications of the salads. This restaurant was a great find. My wife and I wanted a steak Florentine before leaving Florence and were told La Cocotte had great cuts of beef. They did not disappoint. Relaxed atmosphere, but big flavor and great presentation for their steak. The potatoes served with the steak were fantastic as well. We also had a Nutella tiramisu that was excellent. I ordered the cheeseburger and it was cooked perfectly (medium) with a nice ring of brown on the outside and pink in the middle. The "French fries" aka potato wedges (if you're American and have an image of fries in your head like me) were really good and didn't even need ketchup. Got the pistachio tiramisu for desert which was good as well. My husband and I celebrated our 50th birthdays by spending a week in Florence, Italy, and enjoyed this restaurant so much we ate three meals there over the course of the week. The food, atmosphere, and staff were all top-notch. They serve breakfast, so if you're wanting a typical American breakfast, you can get it. The coffee is excellent, just like most places in Italy. For dinner, they have a varied menu and many dishes are served in little covered pots (like the name of the restaurant!). We had gnocchi, lasagna, soup, and the traditional Tuscan steak over the course of our two dinners there. The wine selection is excellent and ending our meals with limoncello was the cherry on top of a good experience from the time we walked through the doors. The manager (owner?), Leonardo, was very accommodating and hospitable, making conversation easily and warmly with us. The bartenders were friendly and we never had to wait long for service. Pretty close to our B & B in Firenze. Cozy little spot off of one of the main streets Via Nazionale. Great discovery! We are American and they didn't speak English. Ironically one of the waitresses knew all the American songs on the sound system and was singing along! . They have an English menu and that was great! We had the America breakfast; cappuccino, scrambled eggs and incredible bacon. We also had a couple of the freshest most amazing croissants ever that had just come out of the kitchen. I feel like an idiot writing a review on any restaurant in Italy, because they're all so good compared to ours, and we have some amazing food in Los Angeles. So I really feel like an idiot writing one where we actually ordered a burger and fries, but oh my gosh, the people working there were SO nice. They gave us free caramels because they saw us looking at them, and they upgraded our dessert to a large and threw in some other extras. Then, we get to the fries and they are possibly the best fries we've had in Europe. The tiramisu was also killer. I think we're gaining weight in Italy because we have yet to have a bad meal anywhere. I'm starting to think that those people who say that certain cultures are rude, really mean to say that they aren't even close to being as friendly and generous as the Italians.
