We got here about 7pm on a Monday night. We were the only people that sat at the bar and one other table was occupied. They have a nice beer selection so for us that was the draw. There is a nascent craft beer thing going on here in Italy reminiscent to what NJ went through maybe 15 years ago. Probably because there were few patrons here early on a Monday night we got a chance to speak at length with Mateo our beertender; a very nice guy. He was more than happy to let us sample several beers and even brought us an order of fries we didn't order. Everyone spoke english well here and from what I could tell a lot of the customers were US or British - just speculating. Service as good. Remind me of an Irish Pub. Menu had something for everyone. Wish I could comment on food, but walked out after using the bathroom. No toilet seat, hair all over, garbage all over the floor and other gross things. I don't eat in restaurants that don't have clean bathrooms. If you don't clean the bathroom imagine what the kitchen is like. read more

I have to admit I was a bit skeptical at first the place seemed rather off the beaten path and after trying to make our way to TOUCH and finding it to be closed because it was too early we ended up at Off the Hook and to our surprise the beer selection and burgers were Outstanding ! fresh brie cheese goes with everything ! the service was great and the bar was quaint! I loved this place I highly recommend it if you are traveling to Italy and Florence anytime soon. Take a break and enjoy this little place. read more

A visit to this place is a must!!! Everybody loves a good burger and these guys deliver. The flavour is there and there are a few interesting combos on the menu if you like something a little different. The solo staff member helped with recommendations of his favorites and suggested beers we might like that were not on the menu board. He was fantastic! Sometimes, you just need a burger. So, back in my day (*old man, cough*), burgers in Europe were a definite no no. For starters, most folks over there shunned them, but more than that, they just didn't know how to make them. Maybe that was the problem, it was as foreign to them as prosciutto was to us? Either way, those days are long gone, and continental Europe has 100% embraced the American style burger. Off the Hook was a welcome respite after a good number of days surviving on carbohydrates (read:pasta party gone wild). The place was trendy, with a gargantuan bar dominating the center of the room, and smaller tables flaking the walls. The staff was outrageously pleasant (free fries anyone?), and very helpful with their massive beer selection. Did I mention that this was a beer bar? RARE find in a part of the world where wine is king (for a very good reason). They had quite the selection too, but I went with a Machete double IPA which happened to be the owners favorite (it didn't disappoint). If you're looking for more than beer, they have a solid happy hour cocktail selection as well. For food, we obviously went with burgers, and they were absolutely on point - I got the Santa Croce, and my girlfriend got the Santo Spirito win win. If you're looking for a beer and a bite that is a bit out of the norm for Firenze, you really can't beat this spot. read more

Yes yes yes. First, found this place while hunting down the beer scene in a country full of wine. Wine is great, but beer is awesome. Anyway, started at this place trying a couple of the many beers on draft. Staff was friendly and the place wasn't super busy at the time. Noticed a bunch of stuff on the menu looked good, but had already eaten so just made a note to come back. Boy I'm glad I did. Ended up coming back several times, more than any other spot due to the good beer, great burgers & fries but ultimately the awesome staff. The night crew, the day crew, managers - all of them were amazing. Even when bringing our dogs in they were super friendly and even made the pups a small meat patty of their own. C'mon, how cool is that?!?!? On our last night in Florence, we needed to have a small break from pasta for a slightly meatier meal. When overseas, it can be difficult to find a good burger so we always have to try a burger place at least once. Walking in around 730, we had a bunch of seating options. By the time we were leaving, people were trying to steal tables from one another. I started off with prosecco since it was only 3 euro a glass. Chuck grabbed a gin and tonic with a local gin. It was delicious. After a round, they placed a little bucket of fries on our table (on the house). They were delicious. It definitely cemented the fact that we would be eating here. I landed on the Santo Spiritu (beef patty with brie, caramelized onions and pistachios). Chuck grabbed a cheddar and bacon burger. We also ordered another side of fries and veggies. I was not expecting literal deep fried veggies but they were tasty, nonetheless. There was a nice mix of zucchini, carrots, spinach, broccoli, cauliflower and sweet potatoes. The fries and the veggies were nice and crispy which is always appreciated. Now the burgers are cooked however they are cooked. While not being pink, they were still nice and juicy. The brie melted into the patty with the pistachios adding a subtle crunch to the caramelized onions. The service was excellent and everyone was very friendly. It was a bit off the beaten path when it comes to this tiny city, but that was great for us. I would definitely return here if I am ever back in Florence (and needed a break from all of the carbs). read more

My husband and I visited Florence for over a week and while we love pizza and pasta, we were craving something different one day for lunch. Enter Off The Hook. The burgers and fries we ordered were very good, cooked to perfection. We also enjoyed their vast beer selection as that is a bit hard to find in Italy. The owner was so helpful and nice and brought several samples to try before deciding on one we liked. To top off a great meal, he offered us free shots of whiskey which we happily took :). If I could give a negative star I would. The new bartender who has only been there a month needs to go. I was at Off The Hook Friday night for my friend's 21st birthday (which is a huge deal in America) and I mentioned to the bartender when I walked in that it was her birthday and she should get a free birthday shot. I was just making jokes and laughing but he became immediately hostile and even went so far as to push my face away from him with his hand. After this assault I was so uncomfortable I went into the back room where my friend group was. Later in the evening I tried to make things less uncomfortable by trying to joke with him. But he immediately raised his voice at me and started yelling that "HE was the bartender" not me. Everyone in the room was staring. After he continued to yell I quickly walked away and sat down to avoid him for the rest of the night because obviously he has SERIOUS anger/control issues. But he came over to our table to ask us if we wanted drinks and CONTINUED to verbally assault me. He was saying things like "You only want to drink for free. Of course you're not going to buy anything you just want free stuff" When the entire point of me asking in the first place was to get my friend a free shot for her birthday for fun not for me to get a free drink. It was so unbearably uncomfortable at this point my boyfriend and I left because we both felt he had EXTREMELY overstepped his boundaries to the point of verbal assault. And we waited outside for our friends to finish their drinks and both promised to each other we would never step foot in that bar/restaurant again. My strongest recommendation is to fire the bartender with the terrible attitude and obvious anger issues. And probably teach him a lesson to never speak to a woman like that again. I chose this place because I was looking for a quality burger away from the US but despite its positive reviews, this burger was very disappointing. For paying €9 the burgers here seem to be more of tourist eye candy from a variety of burger options but lack good meat quality. For a pub burger the meat was quite thin and over cooked to a fault. Also, keep in mind that the bacon you may add to your burger is far from similar to the same diner bacon you may be accustomed to. The cheese was barely melted to the meat and had a very rubbery taste. The staff was very cordial but avoid this restaurant if you are looking for a decent, money well spent burger option. read more

I am a beer enthusiast so this is strictly about the beer and ambiance. Before I went to Florence I figured I would hit some of the higher rated beer places. Instead of going beer hunting though, I settled into Off the Hook which was just around the corner from my Air BNB. I visited there six times in four days. This pretty small place (other reviewers mention a room in the back, I did not see it) has a limited but focused beer list with mostly Italian micros. It had eight Italian bottles, six Italian drafts and a few other things as well as a cocktail program. It makes me super excited about the Italian beer scene which I have not paid attention to. I didn't try the food which was mostly burgers but they did put some good French fries on the bar as a free snack, these were pretty good. A guitar/vocal duo played with no cover on Friday and Saturday, the place got crowded and lively, but not rowdy, on those nights. It seems to draw a lot of Italians as well as tourists and American students studying abroad, but I did not get the impression that it was strictly a tourist place. The staff and owner (I think) were also super friendly and helpful. If I am ever lucky enough to be in Florence again I will definitely visit Off the Hook. read more
