My wife is a cocktail and wine person. I'd much rather have a beer any day of the week. So when we went to Florence, I checked out all the notable beer places on google and Alibi was the first one we went to (it's closest to the train station.) Well, they really set my expectations high for the rest of my list. Between us, we had about six different types of beer, each more delicious than the last. And we ordered food as well - her burrito was fine, if unexciting, but my cheeseburger with an egg on it was honestly the best burger I've had in a long time. The Italian cheese on it was phenomenal. We had to go back before we left cause it was just so good. The bartenders were friendly and helpful, and the bar itself was kinda cool and industrial, but you're going here for the beer and the food. You won't be disappointed. read more

I'm a big fan of BrewDog and try to visit one of their pubs whenever I'm in a city that houses one. When in Florence, I couldn't pass up stopping by their Italian outpost for a welcome break from all that wine. Although there's nothing particularly 'Italian' about this bar - it has that BrewDog vibe which could have been plopped down from anywhere on the globe - it's a great, casual place to pop in for a pint. Finally. In the international craft beer sphere, BrewDog is towards the top of the list. This band of gypsies has a rich history that I'd encourage anyone remotely interested in craft beer to read more about. As [possibly] the fastest growing brewery of all-time, these dudes are the punks of wort, mash and hops. Their business model redefines how a 21st century company can be run. After 10 years in business, they changed the craft beer scene for the better, including 46 bars around the world, tens of thousands of shareholders, while proudly holding the title of the strongest and most expensive beer ever produced! Mind you, as a punk bar in Florence, this place sticks out like a sore thumb. In a good way. Compared to the surrounding romanticism and classicism, it was a joy to find an underground dive where all judgments are left at the door. I asked the bartender for his current favorite IPA and he actually recommended a collaboration beer, which isn't even brewed by BrewDog. But let me tell you, it was hands down one of the best beers I've ever had. It's called Amundsen Hop Magic and it's brewed in Oslo. This NE-IPA was fruity, hoppy, and had a bitter finish. Unbelievable! Now everyone raves about the wine in Italy, but to be honest that's not really my scene. My girlfriend let me geek out for the time being and I couldn't have been more grateful for just spending an hour here. read more

Solid brew pub with a mix of house and guest brews. Went with the Italian guest beer which was saison, plenty of flavor and depth. I thought it was well made and everyone else enjoyed their selections also. We didn't try any of the food as it was too American in nature. Brewdog happens to be one of my buddie's favorites so he was a bit excited to find out the first location in Italy was in Florence! Was it fate? Perhaps a testament to the potency of their brews was that I forgot just about all the names of the beers I had that night. Ok, so what do I remember? -A number of the beers on tap are brewed locally, with some collaboration beers with other breweries from other countries. -I liked all the beers I had, the only thing that made me sad is that you don't get a full pint with the beers that have a high alcohol content. -Somehow this Brewdog is a nexus for English speaking beer lovers. While checking out the bar scene in Florence, we noticed a very familiar name on the map. BREWDOG! The first bar that I went to in Edinburgh was called BrewDog and seeing this name brought all of those memories flooding back. We wandered over one evening in November. The small winding streets lead us to BrewDog. The bar is very different from many of the bars you will find in the city. It is clearly a bar, a few tables and chairs with a bar lined with tap handles. It is dark and cozy, especially for a November evening when the sun goes down before 5pm. It was early when we first arrived so there were not many people. We grabbed an order of fries which were delicious. Perfectly crispy and, due to how they were cut, in fun curled shapes. The bartender was very pleasant and helped us pick our first beers. A large amount of their beer is from the original pub so there were some familiar faces there. By the time we were heading out for dinner, the place was starting to fill up and the second bartender had just shown up. I really enjoyed my few beers pre-dinner but it was time to head out for another fabulous dinner in Florence. read more

The craft beer scene is still relatively young in Italy and Florence is no exception. This place is a beer haven in the middle of the city. They have pretty solid craft beers brewed by themselves as well as a few from local breweries. Didn't try the food, but that's not really the reason you're here. My first craft beer while in Europe. It was jus what I needed. Brewdog is surrounded by many restaurants and it's not far from the Duomo. There's plenty of seating and they also serve some really tasty food as well. The selection of beer will satisfy all beer lovers and the prices aren't that bad either. They have bar seating up stairs with a few tables and then something they call the Bunker downstairs with bigger tables and games. The burgers were so good we went back the next night. We're big fans of Brew Dog and we were happy to see that they had a Florence location to save us from the unappealing beers we saw everywhere else. This is a nice spot and it also has a bottom floor with cool paintings and bean bag chairs that make it feel like I'm back in college. When it comes to the beers, I've never had a bad one. The standards are all solid: Punk IPA, Dead Pony Ale and 5am Saint. Also really like the Jackhammer IPA and a few of the stouts. Didn't have anything to eat, so I can't speak about the food, but the beer is fantastic. One of the coolest things about my visit here was bumping into the dude working here rocking the sweet original Air Jordans. I complemented him on his retro kicks and it got us talking about MJ (his airness, not Jacko) and the Chicago Bulls. This guy was a fan and we had a nice chat about the team. Leave it to me to find a Bulls fan in Florence. I can't make this stuff up. Random observation that just about any NBA gear that I see around the world is that stampeding team from the Windy City. One of our favorite places we visited during our two week journey through Italy. Out of all the beer bars we tried, BrewDog had the best selection of beers (while others like Baladin seemed to disappoint). Great atmosphere, friendly staff, and okay snacks. Prices weren't overly expensive, and didn't get top crowded on a Saturday night. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking to get their craft beer fix in Italy. Location: Great as well, right by the trendy Central Market. Felt very safe. Good: Just okay. But a great change of pace from eating padta and pizza everyday. Brewdog -- totally recommend. The craft beers were really well done. I liked each one I had there. They also have board games to play. It's a more "Americanized" place so I'm kind of torn. I can get America at home so I want to do Italian while in Italy. Even the music was all American, mostly alternative/rock type stuff from what I remember. But, as mentioned, the beers were really good. And this was very conveniently located in close proximity to my hotel. So, was easy to stop here for a nightcap before ending the night. Excited to finally try some Brewdog beer since we can't get it in the states (at least not in Seattle) We absolutely love their beer selection and it rivals any brewery in the U.S. I had Punk IPA and it's a very drinkable hoppy beer. 3 out of the 6 hops are from Washington so I might be a bit biased here. Beer is definitely the highlight and a place with free WIFI and affordable food is great! This gives me a break and provide a familiar taste. Food: I got a veggie burger which was a bit of a let down. My suggestion: patty is too soft and soggy. Add black beans, or quinoa or portobello to give a firmer texture. Fried jalapeños was fresh and good, maybe provide a source to go with it such as something tangy and sweet. read more

Really fun spot! After my good sport of a husband entered total wine-fatigue mode thanks to me (he's more of a beer fella), we stopped at Brewdog midway through our Florence stay. Gotta say, jet-black heart on nitro was such a treat! I haven't had much Brewdog in the states - only the insanely potent Tactical Nuclear Penguin on draft ONCE - but I do respect their experimental style. The headliner brews are really solid - we tried a few at the Florence brewpub, but jet black heart was, hands down, my favorite. OH - and, best part - they had a bottle of "The End of History" displayed on a bar shelf, which definitely warranted a photo. I'd read about this years ago, and this zany (and, well, disturbing) beer is $765, touted as the strongest beer in the world, and served in a bottle shoved INSIDE A TAXIDERMIED SQUIRREL. F*cked up, man. Anyway, a fun stop for a pint. read more

Finally found a good beer selection in Florence. The place is tiny but having stopped by here twice in two weeks it's sized for its crowd. After all when you can get a great liter of wine for $10 euro most anywhere around it's hard to pony up six for a pint. The atmosphere is minimal but when you need a good beer in Tuscany there are few choices. Their Rotterdam location surely has more competition but here they are the best choice for American style beers which have noticeable hops. read more

The best beer in Firenze! The food selection is UK/US style pub food and okay - we got wedges. But let's be honest, you are here for the beers. Good prices and nice variety from Brewdog. Their beers tend to be hoppy and somewhat high ABV, so take it easy! Get a flight of four beers to try as many as possible. If you are from USA, Brewdog is hard to find or very very expensive, so this is an easy choice to make. Since it's located close to Santa Maria Novella and on one of the oldest streets in Florence you can bet there are lots of options in the neighborhood for food or hotels as well. read more
