If you're looking for a late brunch, this is a good place to go. However, I've had much better brunch in the U.S many times! The food came fast and big portioned but the quality was okay. My egg scramble was made with different ingredients than what I requested. The hashbrown tasted really weird too. Not sure what they put in it and how they made it. The Diner has disappointed me. I went for a Sunday brunch with my friend because we were missing American diner food, and I ordered a french toast and Oreo milkshake. My friend ordered a Western omelette with hash browns. My Oreo milkshake did not seem to have much Oreos in it, and it didn't taste very Oreo-y. The toast had a grainy texture, and it is probably because they used whole wheat bread. But the egg in between each slice of bread looked and tasted funny. My friend was upset about her hash browns because they seemed more like chickpea nuggets than potato hash browns. Awkward. To top it off, while we were still eating, three different waiters came up to us asking if they could take our plates. Talk about miscommunication. read more

I like a lot the atmosphere absolutely 100% American - maybe a bit more colored than actual diner in the US though, which are more sober and black and white as far as i remember but who cares? It is a very fun place to eat. But the food did not convince me fully, I have to say (whereas I was craving for a burger that night! so i should have been very easy to convince, piece of cake). The burger was really not great: the bun was totally soaked with the water coming out of the meat which made me suspect that the meat was not of great quality... But even if it was, it was not nice to eat at to eat this bun absolutely full of water... and in the end i even did not eat it. The rib were apparently not great either, not tender at all... Pretty disappointing. We are usually a very adventurous crowd when it comes to food but on this occasion, we were craving some bacon, egg, pancake kinda comfort food. I AM SAVING YOU FROM A HORRIBLE MEAL!!! We wanted breakfast besides pastries, so my wife found this place. As soon as we got there it looked very unimpressive with plastic orange seats outside. We sat down and looked at the menu. Definitely NOT a diner menu, but I figured we would try it anyway. I had the Spanish Omelette with salsa and Pecorino, and a side of crispy bacon. My wife got the breakfast sandwich. The omelette was cooked to death. Completely brown on both sides. It literally had something like Pace Picante and way too much cheese. I love cheese, but if it was cheddar, mozzarella, Monterey Jack, provolone, it would have been fine. The cheese was overpowering and inedible. Less is more with a strong cheese (or mix the cheese with a milder cheese) My bacon was super thin. I asked for it crispy and it looked like they just put it in the deep fryer for way too long. I couldn't pick up a piece without it crumbling in my hand. Basically like powder. The "hash browns" were like a fritter with a few shreds of potato in it. (Not in a good way) My wife's "breakfast sandwich" was not good either. The fruit skewer did not look fresh either. We were given glasses for water, but no water. If you are charging $9 for a breakfast it should be edible. This was very disappointing. Avoid this tourist trap. We wanted a change in food close to home. This is nothing like an American breakfast. Save your money! I can only imagine how horrible the lunch is. I would give it zero stars if I could. read more

The diner has recently underwent an enormous renovation opening up a new dining area and even a top area which will be for those looking to sip coffee & utilize the free wifi. I passed by there today with a friend and was very impressed with the new surroundings. Before there was a bit if a "diner smell" (fried food ) that lingered that thankfully no longer exists due to the new space. The owner told me that come September they will also be adding additional menu items to their already extensive list. I had the apple pie and ice coffee, both of which were perfect. They are probably the only place in Florence that knows how to make a proper ice coffee AND not over charge for it. They have awesome pancakes, eggs Benedict, and I like the burgers (if you want your burger well-done - make sure to ask for it as Italians normally like them medium) . and the bagels, and the ... ok pretty much everything. If you haven't been in awhile, I recommend trying it, as there have been many improvements. read more

Knowing that Italians really don't do significant breakfast - you might get a pastry and a coffee, but that's about it - and super hungry on our first morning in Florence, we tried The Diner. We should really, really have known better. First, it was completely empty at 10am, which is generally enough of an indication that you should bail out, but we stuck through, thinking that a hearty "American style" breakfast could fortify us for the day. My boyfriend ordered the eggs benedict, and I had a blueberry pancake stack. My boyfriend described it as the worst breakfast he's ever had. The hollandaise sauce was lumpy and tasted wrong. Served with limp lettuce and a slice of tomato as a "salad". The hash browns were, as other reviewers have mentioned, not hash browns but weird fried balls of batter, and disgusting. The pancakes were better. Served with maple syrup and a "stick of fruit" which turns out to be two chicks of pineapple and a strawberry on a skewer. They were super super sweet, but had plenty of blueberries inside and were much more palatable than the eggs. The decor is super tacky and weird, bright pink walls and a mish mash of Beatles posters and gone with the wind paraphernalia. And super loud crap 80s music. And Nora Jones. Why do so many crappy restaurants love Nora Jones so much? Oh and the wifi doesn't really work, and requires you to link to your Facebook and like them. I am studying abroad and this was a great place I went to with my roommates. It's very 80s with great 80s music playing. They have free tap water there which is rare in Florence! My roommates got milkshakes and they were good but thin, very classic of Florence. In my opinion they were a little over priced at €5. I had the French Toast which was awesome and only €6,50. My one roommate had a chicken wrap and fries and she thought it was good. The fries were excellent. My other roommate had a burger and it was pretty big and really good. The service there was rather average, not bad but nothing to write home about. If you're a lil homesick or just hungry and want something hardy this is a great place to stop. :) read more

For a while some of the people in the group I came to Firenze with had a strange obsession with this place. To this day I cant understand why anyone would like to dine here. To begin with the food is straight up terrible. From the bland salads to under-cooked burgers the food is plain awful. The staff is rude and refuses to make change, even though they know that the majority of people eating here are students paying with cash. Talk about lazy to me. The last amenity you get dining here is the fly infestation. That's right, all of the doors are left wide open so that your food comes out covered in the flying critters. What an interesting find, this American style diner is very cool and has literally the best burger I have had in Florence as of yet. This is a fun interior design with really good dance music. The owner is great to students especially the American students of which there are so many in Florence, as he offered us a loyalty card there is even more reason to come back. The tables are very fun with the largest size being a four person table. As i said before all the different burgers were really well done and the French fries are slightly fat and crunchy which I think is perfect. Thanks for a great burger! read more

If you're studying abroad they'll try to shove this place down your throat because it's "american food" but it literally tastes like microwaveable Jenny Craig. This is nothing like american food and they shouldn't advertise it as such because it's literally like fake food. Service was terrible and the setup is just off. We are American and were looking for a decent breakfast in Italy. We purposefully went here for an American breakfast and it measured up. We had the English breakfast which came with a fried egg, bacon, toast, baked beans tomato and lettuce. If you don't like sunny side up eggs let them know! I was so happy to have an American Breakfast I didn't care. The bacon was on point, very crispy. Their jam was really good and wasn't too sweet. The baked beans could've used a little more flavor but I'm from Texas and we pack a lot of flavor in beans, that's hard to beat. They had American coffee which was good. They have a very tiny patio outside and a bigger, more open inside. If you enter and turn to the left you will find the bigger inside room as opposed to the tiny front room. I took a peek in there, they had a TV, a set of stairs and random things hanging on the wall. If you're an American in Italy and itchin for an American breakfast this is the place to go. read more

If you want some good American food, this is the place to go. In my one month stay in Florence, I came here about three times and each time the food reminded me of home. Good WiFi, good service, great food, the serve your drinks with ICE & the vibe is really one of the most Americanesque places in all of Italy. They restaurant is also incredibly accommodating. Whenever I would go, it would be with a group of us with an organization. They'd be dealing with serving a group of 20+ people every time, and the service would still be up to par and very good. While visiting Florence my boyfriend and I were looking for somw really fmgood breakfast. Now, Italians werent big on breakfast but we yelped this place and thought we would have an amazing breakfast. We sat outdoors which was fine although inside was airconditioned the AC in Europe is like the aame as outside temperature. I did not like the food, the grilled cheese waa literally not grilled it was just clumps of cheese on bread. The orange juice was beyond watered down and the eggs had no taste. The service was good, so that was a plus. The person serving us didnt speak great english but she tried so hard to take our order and be accomodating which was greatly appreciated. The food waa also expensive, I think our check for 2 was somewhat around $50usd and thats for breakfast! I plan on coming back to florence but wont recommend the diner for breakfast. read more

Their idea of "hash browns" is fried dough (there is no dough in hash browns!!!) we came here for breakfast because we couldn't find a place to eat breakfast in Florence, apparently Italians don't do breakfast, so we thought an "American Diner" would be the perfect place....it wasn't.
