I love the concept of an American diner in Florence but the food is not as great as it should be for the prices and its usually never worth the insane wait for brunch on the weekends. Sometimes its nice to go if you need a little slice of home but their are many great places to eat in Florence and this is not really at the top of my list.. especially when they make grilled cheese with cheddar (yuck!) read more

This was probably the worst meal I've ever eaten. I am literally writing this review as I sit in the restaurant awaiting the check. The western omelette was bathed in salt, the waffles were burned, and the carrot cake was cold, burnt, and for some inexplicable reason had sprinkles. I would give this place a no star if I could. It would be my go to spot when staying here a few years ago when my friends and I were craving some American food. The place expanded and now has a lot more seating. Exactly as the other reviews stated, when you can't "stand" another tiny coffee and croissant for breakfast, this place is for you! Full 8 oz coffee with free refills, bacon, eggs, pancakes, free wifi, etc. English. Hash browns are clumps of fried dough but they were crunchy and tasted the same in ketchup. Cheap when compared to what you would pay for the same amount of food and coffee in a cafe. read more

Yeah unfortunately its not as American as we thought but I'll give them an A for effort, of course Italians aren't big on breakfast and our hotels served nothing but croissants and cappuccino so we wanted an American breakfast so we came here.... I ordered the bagel and lox with a pouched egg, I found it hilarious that the served ranch and ketchup with every order I guess we really do love that stuff haha! I came here often because it had (what I felt to be) fairly good vegetarian options. I also came to get my American food fix because it was the closest I could find to authentic American food (although it's not very authentic). The people are pretty nice, I had a good experience every time I've gone. The food is also pretty good, but I know that some people may find the food bland. read more

Considering the being in Italy, the food is decent. However if this was a diner back in America the food would be far from that. Had an omelette which was nice to have eggs considering it's not a popular breakfast option around here, however they were very oily and it was not cooked well. This is a sad establishment for a few reasons. From my seven years experience Florentine's don't much care for Ethnic food, if you can even call diner food that. I usually got the eggs benedict which often came with a stale crumpet or rock solid canadian bacon and more than once forgot that their orange juice is completely undrinkable. They can handle pancakes and french toast and I would highly recommend a hot chocolate, shake or burger but I found almost everything else inedible. Florence is a really tough place to get good ethnic food. Try finding Indian food - it's rare and expensive for the portion size. Ok anyways. Since this is your only diner option go once but then just make this stuff at home yourself. read more

It's hard enough getting an "American Breakfast" on this side of the pond, so if you have an appetite in the morning and want more than a piece of f****** bread with some cheese like everywhere else, go to the diner. Came here for a late breakfast. Arrived and sat outside; my girlfriend ordered a chicken bagel while I ordered a Greek omelette. Bagel was dry and bland, omelette was similarly devoid of taste. Not sure what the 'jam' was - watered down fruit juice perhaps? Plates reminded me of a child's play set. Also, paying the bill was a chore. The name of the restaurant says it all, this place serves a very American & English breakfast all day. The service is much like any Italian service in many regards: rushed and infrequent. This business is almost like a racket or a shakedown because no one else provides this same service. The food is good and worth going to on any day. When was the last time you had hash browns made fresh with real potatoes. (The potatoes in Italy are so much better than America). Eggs that are leaning towards orange colored yokes instead of pale yellow. Hamburgers freshly made in house. Plus it is super easy to get this all gluten free. Maybe I'm selfish for wanting an American breakfast in Florence, but we went here hoping the full-bodied american breakfast that the reviews had promised. Unfortunately, we left feeling quite unsatisfied. We were seated fairly quickly and service was decently paced up until we ordered. Our coffee arrived around ten minutes in and around this time a small family was seated beside us. About a half hour into waiting for food the lady next to us pulled a waiter aside and spoke to her in Italian. Five minutes later the waiter came out with their food, even though we ordered 15 minutes before her.. she came to our table after to assure us we were the next order. Another 20 minutes passed by and just as the table beside us was finishing their plates our food finally came out. First, the hashbrowns are not hashbrowns. They're almost like a type of potato fritter? My boyfriends breakfast was decent however the meal wasn't anything impressive for the price. My pancakes were golden and looked delicious until I took a bite of them and thought they tasted funny. Flipped them over to reveal they were almost completely BLACK on the other side. Thats honestly what inspired me to write this review because for the price of everything the 'American' breakfast experience is ruined by the lack of care put in the cooking. The waiter did take 2 euro off our bill for the wait but still. You're honestly better off going to any regular breakfast place in Florence as they'll most likely have better food and service. Overall I gave this place two stars for the decent coffee and atmosphere but the meal you pay and wait an hour for is incredibly disappointing and unsatisfying. read more

We came here for breakfast to feel at home again, I ordered pancakes and they were great but the extra syrup I asked for didn't come for 5 minutes after I asked and the orange juice was full of pulp because they squeeze it there. I discovered this place on the very last day of a previous trip to Florence, when I had been craving a hearty American breakfast for days. The Diner did not disappoint! Two years later and I'm back in Florence again and have made it a point to come here earlier in the trip to get my American breakfast fix. The hash browns are different from anything I've had (and I'm from the South so I thought I had tried every version out there) but very very good. The omelets are fantastic too! The muffins aren't as sweet as the ones I'm used to but not bad, just different. If you are going to break traditional Italian breakfast rules, this is the place to do it! read more
