    Yup. Best panini in Florence!
    J A.

It says something when you visit the same place for lunch two days in a row. Antico Noe was referred to us by a friend as a must for lunch when I was in Florence. My friend couldn't have been more right! Two days in a row I had the vegetariano sandwich with the addition of mozzarella. The fresh baguette topped with spinach, mushrooms, artichokes, sundried tomatoes, onions and fresh tomatoes makes the perfect combination. Be sure to ask for a side of the rose sauce or better yet, ask for two sides, you'll want extra for sure!

We walked by Antico Noe no less than four times our first two days in Florence, only to find it was not open (post-holiday closure). Imagine our surprise when we strolled by on day three and found both the sandwich bar and restaurant ready and open for business. We couldn't have walked in any quicker. The server was fantastic. She asked if we preferred Italian or English (we opted for Italian to keep learning/practicing) and dropped off the menu of the day as well as the regular offerings. Water and a delightful wheel of bread (cut into small wedges) were delivered hastily and we made our order. It is clear each meal is cooked to order and you can tell the love and time that go into the preparation. Other diners entered and quickly filled the small dining area. Some other tourists but also local folks -- yeah! The spaghetti alla carbonara was incredible. Perfect al dente pasta and a silky, salty sauce from the egg and cheese. I would have eaten this pasta without the ham/bacon, but this took it to another level. My dining partner opted for the same dish, adding deftly cooked artichokes to the mix. My dish arrived first and I really had to exhibit some excellent self control to avoid wolfing it down in record time. This was a lunch meant to be lingered over and well worth the wait. So glad we got to experience Antico Noe while in Florence -- this will be a "go to" for us when we return.

    Great sandwiches!

This is a great (hidden) sandwich shop. We had a lot of friends recommend that we try this place while we were in Florence. Get the fresh sourdough bread and I'm not sure if you can go wrong with whatever sandwich you order. I don't recall which ones we got but they were both great!! They only have a couple small tables to sit at so you may want to grab this sandwich to go.

Last night in Florence we decided to get some late night eats. We walked past this place and the dishes on the tables caught our eyes. We were warmly greeted and accommodated for seating as this place was pretty busy even though it was like 11pm at night. The server was quite friendly and actually took the time to go over the menu with us since it was only in Italian. The food came out shortly after and was hot and delicious. We sat outside the restaurant, which was perfect on a somewhat warm night in Florence. This place offers only wine, not much beer and no alcohol. Not a whole lot more to say, good food, good environment, and good service. Why not? :)

We had 2 types of spaghetti with porcini mushrooms. They were excellent. The service was very friendly and the waitress spoke great English! Bravo!

coming here for 15 years for the best sandwich on earth. Buff mozzarella, sun dried tomatoes and pesto, grilled to perfection

Single handedly the best sandwich you will find in Firenze. I always go with the Buffalo mozzarella, sun dried tomatoes and pesto, its AMAZING! And the prices are cheap. Pair that with a Peroni, and you will be in heaven

A lovely American waitress came over and helped me.(I'm not saying she's lovely because she's American, she just was really friendly) She explained that the cook makes all the poached eggs in one big pot and can't specialize one for a customer. She said they could fry it medium well and that worked for me. The other waitress offered to fry the egg or scramble it but she just wasn't friendly, and she didn't give me all the choices of how I could get the egg fried. That really helped me make my choice. The egg's Benedict came with American pork bacon and not Canadian bacon. The hollandaise sauce was deliciousness, but they give you such a small amount. They need to double it. Another reviewer mentioned how good the green hot sauce was, so I tried it. It was spot on great!! I made sure every bite had the green sauce on it. I usually only like shredded hash browns but their breakfast potatoes were perfect. They weren't hard and had a good flavor. The restaurant was clean but very small. It had a nice relaxing feel. I love to try the food of the country I'm visiting, but after traveling for two weeks it was nice to have something I eat at home. The eggs Benedict was a treat. I had the hot amaretto coffee drink and that just hit the spot and made the waiting to be seated all worth it. The had many types of milk you can put in your coffee, for example, they have soy milk, oat milk, etc. I would definitely recommend this place and come back. Oh and the less than friendly waitress served my food to me with a smile, but she never smiled again and never accepted my thank you's no matter how much I said them. Word of advice don't have a sad face if they can't provide something the way you want it if the waitress is blond and Italian. That will not go over well. You're not allowed to be quietly disappointed.

From the outside, it looks like a grand, iron-and-glass structure typical of European markets; inside, it opens into a bustling, multi-level space filled with food vendors, communal tables, and constant movement. The vibe is energetic, social, and slightly chaotic in a fun way - perfect for grazing, group dining, or trying multiple cuisines in one visit (from Italian to American to Mexican!). We stopped in for a quick lunch at around 2pm on a Wednesday; there was plenty of seating at high-top tables, and QR codes on paper menus make it easy to explore all the different food vendor options. It's also a fun activity to peruse the market, taking in different sights, smells, and flavors. All of us ended up opting for Schiacciatas (large Italian sandwiches that are a staple in Florence) from Massimiliano Parri, which all ended up ranging from €10-12, depending on toppings - yes, it's more expensive than what you'd get from a traditional schiacciateria, but you're also paying for the market's location and convenience. We appreciated the fact that they shave the meat right in front of you! My schiacciata came with freshly shaved ham atop crusty white bread, slathered with burrata cheese, and sprinkled with arugula and figs (I opted for no additional olive oil, since I found the ham quite rich already). I loved the contrast of textures and flavors, though I will say that the bread ended up cutting the roof of my mouth! All in all, Mercato Centrale is a bit touristy, but still miles better (and cheaper) than most "Italian" sandwich places you'd find in the US (pro tip: save your receipt for free use of their bathrooms). The variety can't be beaten, prices are reasonable for a central market, and it's steps from some of Florence's most iconic spots.

American/Aussie owned bakery brunch spot by the river, such a cute little eatery. We loved our visit and though it's definitely more of a touristy spot, as most customers spoke English, the food was delicious to forgo the tourist trappy vibes. We shared a plate and added some items as we didn't want to get too stuffed on our first day of Florence. We had the Nduja Eggs plate with bacon and avocado added. Nduja is a spicy Calabrian pepper spreadable pork sauce, and oh boy was it so flavorful. If I remembered correctly, Melaleuca spread this sauce on top of a fried bread and eggs. I don't see it on the menu at the moment and it's probably a rotatable dish... but it definitely kicked started my hunt for the sauce. Since this is a spreadable pork, it's not something I could bring back to the US but I was able to find it online back home. The service was amazing and the beverages were delicious. Like many Italian places, the dining room is small and bathroom is a single small room that might require a small wait if they're busy. Didn't get to try their baked goods this last time, but definitely on our list to go back for more when we're back to Florence for a visit.

I stopped by Gilli for the first time around 9pm on a Sunday night. The place stayed open night, which was very convenient especially since we've been having late dinners. I had the chance to enjoy a sit down in their outdoor patio. It's located right next to a piano bar and other busking performers when there wasn't entertainment at the bar next door. Ordering was interesting. You don't pay at the counter but rather at the corner register for everything to-go. On one of the nights when we grabbed a couple of drinks at Gilli, the server loaded my desserts order on a card that I redeemed to my waiter. Then my desserts were served to me a few moments later. So I had tried ricciarelli at another pasticceria down the street, but Gilli's were far more superior. The almond flavor was more prominent, the texture was much softer, and the powdered sugar wasn't broken. Loved it so much that I got boxes of it for myself and loved ones. I had the pleasure of trying all their "mignons" (mignardises) and was particularly fond of the lemon with pistachios, chocolate passion fruit, and coconut chocolate ones. That said, I always had to have ricciarelli among the little bites.
