Custom salad - get the grilled eggplant! Salad+iced coffee was 10.50€
    Hannah K.

My friend who is studying in Florence right now brought me here. She said she practically lives there because she's there so often! I had a custom made salad and a small iced coffee here! Everything from the price, friendly staff, taste, and ease of ordering made this a great lunch spot!!! It was a nice change from all the pizza and pasta I've been eating in Italy.

#12, not a ton of meat but large sandwich and really good bread. Kind of Americanized sandwich shop!

i came here more than once but yeah, i got the card a lil too late heehee

I will pay this shop's owners to move to NYC!!! I miss this place! I have yet to find a panini shop in NYC that matches the quality of the Oil Shoppe. It's a definite hole-in-the-wall that deserves all the positive remarks left scribbled on its giant tourist guestbook. I came here as often as I could when I studied abroad in Firenze, helped by the fact that I lived about 2-3 blocks away from this place on Via Ricasoli. They have to-die-for panini, and I remember that like in other panini shops I'd visited during my stay, you get to pick what type of bread, meat, etc you want in your panino. This shop is in the nest of tourist-dom since it's close to the Duomo, but the other cafes and panini shops sprinkled within this area will pale in comparison to this place. They'll only serve tasteless panini for $$$ since they know that most tourists who pass by will only ever come once before they head back to their home country (it's not the locals they're catering to). The Oil Shoppe, however, takes advantage of the fact that there are many ppl studying abroad within this area and who are searching for legit good Italian food in the midst of English-speaking Italians who want to rip foreigners off. Interior's tiny but usually has enough open stools for you and a few of your friends. I personally preferred taking my panino back to my dorm to eat. *Tip* It's been a year since I've lived in Florence, but the last time I went to the Oil Shoppe they had something called a "Fidelity Card" where if you buy 10 sandwiches (not all at once haha) you get 1 free! I put up a photo of what it looks like :D

Words cannot describe how much I enjoy Oil Shoppe. The employees are beyond nice and helpful, as well as speak English! The menu is extensive and has so much variety. As a student the Oil Shoppe has become a staple of my daily life in Florence offering economical and delicous lunch options. The rewards card is just the cherry on top. I highly Recomment the #30 Sandwhich and adding Mozzarella. Side sauces of Pesto, Garlic Mayo, Sweet Pepper are all Tier 1.

Arugula, tomato, grilled zucchini, pesto sauce, artichoke sauce, smoked prosciutto, smoked provolone!

With the many panino shops around Florence sometimes it can be hard to choose and find your favorite one. I have two favorites and Oil Shoppe is an addiction of mine. They have so many fresh ingredients to choose from and I get a different sandwich each time. Sometimes the wait can be pretty long (I've waited 40 minutes before) but if you go before 12 or after 2pm there isn't a rush of people. It's very popular with Americans but definitely still has the italian technique with their food. You can also get salads, burgers, onion rings, iced coffee, smoothies....but their sandwiches are the best!

Iced coffee - in tears cause it was soooo refreshing!!

A friend studied in Florence and highly recommended this place for subs and it was well worth the visit!!! Best italian sub yet!! Owners are super friendly and helpful, we did not know what to order and they took the time to discuss with us! Love them! Ordered prosciutto and a Tuscan sausage panini. Both were fantastic!! Best sub in Italy thus far! They were also the only restaurant that had iced coffee...I was almost in tears when I saw that on the menu!!! The owner noticed that a patron dropped their sandwich and it bursted on the floor and he stopped the line and walked out from behind the counter and told them he would make them another and not to worry about it! I mean how sweettttt!!! Love love love them will highly recommend and visit again!

    Phenomenal sandwich - fenomenale panini!

Wonderful, quaint and delicious. This is a must when staying in Florence the owner and master panini maker is delightful and makes everything himself, from the homemade sauces, to the fresh chips, pickled eggplant, etc. We tried 3 panini, which were all excellent. The spicy salami was very spicy, and perfectly balanced by the fresh lettuce and mild ricotta cheese. The prosciutto and Parmesan was my favourite, with fresh local ingredients done just right. Finally our kids loved the special of the day, a mix of chicken and beef with artichoke. All were perfetto!

#25 Meatball Sandwich - onions, peppers, marinara. Delicious!

Great sandwiches! This is NOT your typical Italian shop w premade food in the window. The meatball sandwich #25 was amazing! #4 turkey pesto was great, salads were delicious. Very unassuming outside but owner is very friendly. Lots of options for everyone! Eat here!

We are visiting...we have already traveled a few places, and trying to be reasonable with funds is always something to consider while traveling.... With that said, we chose this place cuz we were tired of walking and it was close to our hotel.. We were kindly greeted upon arrival and while ordering...very kind on describing the menu. Anyhow, the food came out hot, not too long of a wait...and it was delicious. And btw, the cheapest meal on our trip so far!!!! So yeah, quick service, really good food, and cost reasonable....good spot to hit up while burning all those calories touring Florence. I will be visiting this spot again before we leave

#8: prosciutto, mushrooms, arugula, parmesan, & truffle oil

Being a college student, I was looking for a cheap sandwich place and stumbled upon The Oil Shoppe. The staff was really friendly and spoke English which was a plus. The sandwiches are made right in front of you and they come out very quick. I got the #8 and it was delicious!! I highly recommend taking the sandwich to go and eating it on the top floor of the library down the street. Great view of the Duomo with a great sandwich!!

    Panini Menu

The Oil Shoppe is obviously beloved for their paninis that range from 4-5 euros, but their "Avocado Iced Coffee" is a whole new level of delicious. It's well-worth the price when you even see them making the coffee with fresh avocados, cut right in front of your eyes. Especially if you plan to make a few panini runs back, ask for their punch cards--10 visits equal 1 free panini. This place might not have the *best* panini, but their ingredients are so fresh, and there has never been a bad order. The owner, the guy who makes most of the orders himself, is also extremely friendly and patient with the hordes of students that come here during lunch and dinner hours. He's like...(can I say this?)...a dad? That is, of course, a huge compliment! P.S. - Here are the complete pictures of their paper menu. For those equally indecisive people out there who want to try everything and are completely overwhelmed by the vast number of options... I've gotchu.

This is the best place in Florence for a quick fresh sandwich and some good crispy fries. The owner and his wife are very lovely people as well. And the prices are affordable, which is hard to find in Florence

We popped in to the Oil Shoppe for a quick lunch on the go. We could not have been more pleased with our food. They only have a certain amount of food each day to ensure that everything they serve is fresh. Ah, I love this. By far the best 4 euros I've ever spent.

By the time we arrived and scoped out the Duomo, we were definitely ready for lunch. We were walking down the crowded cobblestone streets and decided that wanted a sandwich for lunch. We made a quick left turn and saw a line of people waiting. We weren't necessarily sure what they were waiting for until we inquired. Most people were waiting for sandwiches - SCORE! We decided to get in line and realized how quickly the line was moving. Traffic was being moved by their workers who were assisting with menu suggestions. We quickly got up to the front of the establishment and realized how tiny it is inside. It was so cool to see an actual Italian deli in action. From what I heard, they source their ingredients from local farmers, too! I ordered the La Rosa and my husband ordered the Gregorio (in honor of our friend Greg!). We waited outside for a few minutes while they prepared our order. The sandwiches were absolutely delicious and the bread was surprisingly crispy. The cost was super reasonable, too, for how much food you are getting. We will be back!

It was the first schiaccata spot we went to in Florence, and they set the bar really high. We arrived around 12pm on a Thursday. The line was out the door, but one of the employees managing the queue informed us that we were in a good spot. The line honestly moved quickly. We waited 15-20 minutes at most before placing our order. The restaurant has limited seating upstairs, but luckily we were able to snag a spot. I ordered one of their vegetarian specials, the 3 cheese blend with signature spicy sauce, and added turkey carpaccio. You can customize the sandwiches as you please. The sound of the crunch of the bread was the price of admission right there. The ingredients all tasted amazing, but the paper thin sliced turkey and spicy marinara really stood out to me the most. If I have to be really nitpicky, I did think that the bread doesn't have longevity. Could be that my sandwich was so saucy, which makes the bread soggy and gummy sooner than other other types.

One side seemed to have more alcohol on display and the side I was on was more sandwich focused, but I'm pretty sure you can order the same things from both windows. Initially I was going to get the 21 - Fresh Sausage and Eggplant because I'm an eggplant lover... the lady at the counter was kind enough to let me know that the fresh sausage is actually rare, uncooked sausage and gave me a small piece to try. I was getting ready to get on a train that day and didn't want something that might not sit well with me, so I moved on to number 27 spicy salami and cream cheese. My partner got the number 1, ham, cream cheese and rocket salad. Both are very good sized and oh so delicious. The line moved quickly, so many options for decision paralysis. This is the place for schiacciate Florentine as recommended from friends who used to live here. Definitely would recommend to study up their menu before coming so it's easier to pick what you want. It would be the third sandwich spot on our trip, and we had been to a couple of bangers beforehand that set the bar. I was a bit worried that we were getting lured into a tourist trap because of the restaurant being by the duomo, but it was located behind it where there was much less foot traffic compared to the front facing Piazza Santa Maria Novella. We arrived around noon on a Sunday. My husband and I arrived early enough to beat the lunch crowd, so we had no wait at all. By the time we finished our sandwiches, we saw the queue out the door. There were a couple of high tables inside the restaurant, but there was more seating outdoor. I really liked how you can customize your sandwich the way you wanted down to the bread, meats, cheeses, and toppings. They didn't only have schiaccata bread, which I thought was cool. You had other options of breads like ciabatta. Panini Toscani allows you to sample their various meats, such as porchetta, proscuitto, mortadella, etc. As someone who doesn't eat pork, one of the employees had me sample their various cheeses instead. Since I've been eating schiaccati the past 2 days, I stuck to the same bread as a baseline and added soft cheese, arugula, spicy marinara, eggplant, and sundried tomatoes. I enjoyed my sandwich very much, and the crunch on the bread was everything.

The exterior is small and charming, with a line spilling out the door, while the interior is cozy and bustling with limited seating. The vibe is lively, welcoming, and very interactive, with opportunities to taste their various meats and cheeses. There's Italian and English menus to peruse before you create your customizable sandwich; the amount of options is almost overwhelming, though sampling can help alleviate this "problem." We arrived at around noon on a Wednesday, and waited around fifteen minutes; the line moves fast, despite being out the door! You select from a variety of breads, meats, cheeses, and four additional toppings; they will then lightly toast your sandwich, and you pay at the front counter. I opted for their Ciabatta Toscana with Porchetta (roast pork), Stracciatella (a shredded creamy cheese similar to burrata), rucola (arugula), pepperoni sotto aceto (peppers in vinegar), pepperoni grigliati (grilled peppers), and melanzane (eggplant). My panini was a wonderful blend of textures and flavors; the bread had a crisp exterior and a pillowy-soft interior, the roast pork was succulent and well-seasoned with an herby crust, the straciatella added a creamy richness, and the various vegetables packed an acidic punch. The sandwich was also quite a generous portion, leaving me full for hours. In terms of price point, I believe I ended up paying around €12, which was quite affordable, especially given the central location, interactive experience, and generous portions: excellent value for a high-quality quick meal.
