Not sure why the reviews are so low, but they definitely understood the assignment. I was craving good Hispanic food for a while and I am happy I found this place. I ordered baked chicken with yellow rice and beans and pernil mofongo. The mofongo was very soft and flavorful which I loved but the pernil was a bit salty, however it did not take away from the dish since the plantains in the mofongo were light and soft. Do not order from this place!! We placed an order for a Pernil for a party, the second time from the same place. This time, they upcharged us by $20, and requested we pay a deposit! Furthermore, when we picked up the order, we made sure to verbally confirm with the chef that pernil was no chopped up. He confirmed in a chummy manner, and when we opened the food at home, the pernil was indeed chopped up. This place also scammed us FURTHER by mixing in chopped up chicken with the pernil to make the order more voluminous. Since when is a chicken wing considered pork shoulder?? Omg the food was sooooo goooood!!!! Was exploring the neighborhood I work in and stumbled upon this gem. Small and quiet with a flat screen to watch along with the great food. I love dive spots! Especially when the food taste this good! I got the pernil (roast pork) with white rice and pink beans. Soooooo good. It's hard to find well seasoned pernil for me. Places make it to bland and cut thick slices, I like my roast pork shredded so it can absorb more of the juices! Can't wait to go back! Really small Mom and pop shop with home made Dominican food. 5 stars because the food was absolutely fabulous. This place is a classic example of how the little hole in the wall mom and pop places are always better to eat at than chain restaurants. The place had very weak air conditioning and we were sweating through our meal but we didnt even notice because we were so engrossed by the food. I ordered one order of white rice, red beans, roast pork and an order of tostones and another order of maduros, everything was fresh and tasty. Plus a Snapple and a welchs. The portions are so huge the THREE of us ate until we were full amd still had food left over to take home!!! Plus they give a big complimentary salad. Our total bill??? Wait for it..... 18.50. Whaaaaaat!!!!! Someone needs to tell the owners they should charge more, for real. This place is great! read more

Dominican food and quality customer service

This place was awesome. I was with a group of 8 (6 of them out of town relatives visiting) and we wanted to find a good place to eat before heading into Manhattan for more shenanigans. We came into La Cocina II and they immediately pushed some tables together for us, made sure we were comfortable, and gave us as much time as we needed to decide what we wanted to eat. I love the food here but ordering today was a mess. I ordered salmon and pork chops. The pork chops were great but they didn't even put salmon. They put bacalo (don't know how to slowly it but yea) salmon is suppose to be pink, not white. And then they give me a ginger ale instead of a Sunkist which I did order. Didn't bother calling to say they were going to do these changes. Fast delivery but no points on messing up on one of the orders my mom was looking to enjoy but didn't.
