Nice place that is bit away from the craziness of downtown, and has its own parking. Its a small place with limited seats though. Their drink options seemed very interesting and we went for the jalapeno rita and mezcalita. Both were excellent - especially the jalapeno margarita. For dinner, we ordered Enchilada divorciadas, chicken enchilada, and tamales. The enchiladas were decent - divorciadas was the better one. Our tamales was okay - the sauce was tasty but could have done with bit more punch. The filling was also just okay - nothing memorable. For dessert we ordered a flan that was more dense like a flan cake would be instead of individual steamed/baked flan. That would be the only disappointment I would say. read more

We went in for an early dinner, and it wasn't crowded, which made for a relaxed meal with phenomenal service! We tried the Cocina Plate and the Create-Your-Own Combo. The homemade chips were fresh and delicious, and the salsa had a tasty little kick. The tortilla soup was flavorful--though it had quite a bit of onion, the seasoning still shined through. We also custom-ordered a chicken enchilada topped with queso, and it was absolutely delicious. The restaurant has a super cute setup, a welcoming atmosphere, and a huge menu full of variety. Pretty good! We liked that they are not located downtown so it's a lot easier to get to and park. The place is small but we went in around 3:30 so it was a good time on a Saturday. My husband had the sizzling fajita platter- (chicken and bacon) He said it was one of the best fajitas he has ever had. I had the chicken fajitas. They give you lots of meat. Wanted some legit Mexican food, and not tourist trap stuff. Came here and we were pleasantly surprised! Food was outstanding, lots of flavor and seasoning! And dishes we normally see at home! Shrimp enchiladas: shrimp inside the tortillas AND on top. Shrimp Michelada - enough said! Pastor street tacos, SO MUCH MEAT! Really flavorful, could taste the chorizo! This is not authentic Mexican food at all. I ordered a carne asada burrito that had the smallest portion of carne asada I have ever seen. The meat was so salty and overcooked. Full of fillers like beans, rice and too much cheese. The food is not good. I don't know how they have 4 stars. It's sad the food is overpriced and not good. Well, it's been a year and Im back in Colorado with some church summer campers. This time I'm in Estes Park, Colorado and as I always do I wanted to try a local Mom & Pop rather than a chain restaurant. So after checking Yelp and reviews, I decided to try La Cocina de Mama. It had 4 stars and a total of 312 reviews. I looked over the menu and decided to try the Chicken Mole Enchilada plate. Plate also comes with a serving Spanish rice and refried beans. All I can say is WOW !!! Shredded chicken white meat top with a sweet not spicy mole sauce. Rice cooked to perfection and serving of beans topped with melted cheddar cheese. Service was outstanding and food was delicious. Giving La Cocina de Mama FIVE stars. I travel all over this country and I highly recommend this establishment. read more

It's in a less crowded area of Estes with a small parking lot so if you are trying to avoid that hassle, this may be a decent spot for you. We parked easily and were seated quickly. Won't lie, I was quite disappointed when they server came with a mini wine bottle and wine glass. I was expecting a house made sangria served over ice with fruit. I'd have skipped out had I known it was just a shelf purchased wine. I could have run to Safeway for wine and spend the same for a whole bottle. Sangria is a cocktail in my opinion. Skip this and try a margarita instead. I believe those are house made. Ultimately the food was good. We really enjoyed the guacamole appetizer. That was probably the best item. Food was delicious: I had a bean and cheese burrito, and my companion had enchiladas suiza. I was intrigued by the numerous cocktails on the menu and they weren't overpriced. It says authentic Mexican food but it is not if it only has cheddar cheese! Also, be careful with the waiter covered in jewelry and have him repeat your order, he will take you things you did not order. read more

My husband had carne asada, my granddaughter (age 10) had quesadillas, which she ate the adult portion and we ordered a bowl of white queso dip and she poured it over her quesadillas. They do also have a kids menu, but she wanted to get the adult portion. They have free parking, which is very rare in Estes Park in general. They also had outdoor seating or indoor. We went to La Cocina de Mama last week. I don't enjoy writing bad reviews but I did not have a good experience; they do get points for how they responded to it which is why this is not a one star review. We had planned on eating on the patio but it was starting to rain and was windy so we dined inside. They let us pick our table which was nice 'cause we were able to tuck back out of the way. I knew immediately I'd be getting horchata but it took me a while to decide what to eat; I eventually settled on the fish tacos. My spouse jamaica and carnitas tacos. I asked for mine without lettuce - I didn't say I had a food allergy to lettuce but I figured saying that I didn't want any would mean they wouldn't have any. But my tacos were served on a bed of lettuce; I didn't notice right away due to the plating and didn't want to cause a fuss so I hoped I wouldn't have a reaction since I wouldn't actually be EATING the lettuce and ate about a third of a taco before I noticed I was getting hives in my mouth. At that point I told my spouse I was feeling really unwell and dug out my rescue medication to take before it got worse. He called over our server and explained the issue. I was asked if I wanted the fish tacos again but I frankly did not trust them to not mess up and put lettuce on again and asked for chicken tacos instead. The chicken tacos were too spicy for me to eat and I was just feeling very sick so we took them home and my spouse ate them later. They didn't charge us for the fish tacos but instead charged us for the chicken tacos which we felt was reasonable and is why this isn't a one star review. My spouse enjoyed his food and said it was good but we won't go back because I just don't trust that even if I stressed it is a food allergy that I won't be served something I'm allergic to. read more

Went here after a hike and were super happy with the food. Be aware that chips and salsa isn't free but they clearly make their own chips, which definitely adds to the experience. Service was fairly prompt and they have a larger patio area. The view isn't great and the tables were wobbly but definitely the best Mexican in town and because it's off the main strip, we were seated promptly. Highly recommend! One negative is that I went to the ladies room and there was no TP at all. I ended up using some paper towel to wipe and throwing it in the trash (not my most ladylike moment but what's a girl to do?) but I did tell the host as soon as I left the bathroom and my mom said, when she went in 5 mins later, that issue was remedied. So hate to dock them for that, but it was weird that there wasn't an extra roll around, since we were there by noon, I think. read more

The service was not good; our waitress instantly forgot if we said chips and queso or chips and salsa, a small red flag we thought nothing of. I only encountered that because we were sitting on the patio, and she forgot to put in our order as multiple groups got their food before us. All to lead up with, my order was incorrect when we finally got our food. I had to walk inside because it would be a while before she returned to check on us. I ordered flour enchiladas and was given corn; when I brought it up, they just brought flour tortillas themselves. It was laughable.
