Recently moved to the area and dropped in for lunch on 2 occasions now. The restaurant is very appealing 4-6 booths, a couple of tables and a nice bar. Cozy. Service ok as was the food. Nothing to write home about. Prices on the high side for the quality of the food. We have lived in Chicago and have family in California and Texas. I am Mexican American and grew up with this food. This was pretty average to below average. I checked the menu and had enchiladas, rice and beans. Sauce was ok but it could have come from a jar. 3 different enchiladas and best of the lot was the bean. Married well with the cheese. The others were kind of tasteless. Very mild not a lot of flavor, as were the 2 salsas for the chips. My wife had a salad, again nothing special. Too bad. It could be so much more. Nice margaritas. Service has gone way down hill. No bartender! my wife ordered a margarita and it took nearly 15 minutes to serve it - not exaggerating. It also took at least 10 minutes for the server to take our food order. Food was very good and I still love this place but it needs to ramp up its service to stay in the game. read more

First time in this cozy little place. Booth seating to one side and a bar on the other. It's got a cool eclectic vibe, very clean. We were promptly sat and a server was there with menus and water and took our drink order. The menu is small but covers all the bases nicely. The chips arrived hot and the salsa made in house while we waited for our food which wasn't long. Nothing pretentious going on here just solid well prepared and fresh. Portions were generous and the prices fair. We've found another little gem! I would have given 4.5 stars simply for the fact that the dusty musty 70s one hit wonder ambient music included the theme from Greatest American Hero. We lucky enough to find La Cina and had the best experience! The service was incredible - it was May 6th and they were just coming off a crazy Cinco de Mayo yet they are so nice and welcoming. Food? Best beans and rice hands down! I had the Taco dinner and my husband had the quesadilla. Great portions. Last thing - bonus was the Diet Shasta soda. I had no clue what it was at first but it too was delicious and I can't recommend it enough! Can't say enough good things! read more

We visited Lacina last week for the very first time. We were very impressed with the service and how tasty the food was. It's a very small place but you'll feel cozy there. A tiny restaurant which delivers very good food and good service. The bartender makes a great margarita from scratch--no mixes. I had the tostada's which were very flavorful. The dish came with beans and rice. All were very good. My only complaint is they served the dish on a soup bowl-type plate and they were hard to eat and cut on that plate. They should have been served on a flat plate. (I know this sounds trivial, but it's important to me). My husband had fish taco's which. Bonus too. La Cina has been around for a long time and I always wondered if it was any good. Does not look like much from the outside, but then again, most gems are hidden. Met a group of friends there for dinner and really enjoyed it. As other reviews point out, menu is simple and food was very good. Lots of flavor and served quick out of the kitchen. Staff was friendly and moving with a purpose. Marg's were terrific and a good selection of Mexican beers (Carta Blanca, not bad). Free (warm) tortilla chips and salsa to start your meal is always a bonus. Place is a perfect example of why we feel good supporting a local small business. read more

But wait it gets even better... if your looking for a local bar to hang out at this is where you want to be! The top it off they make the best margaritas in the world! A MUST if you stop in! Tip!- for Cinco De Mayo they have great drink specials and a HUGE Buffet! Taco Tuesday offers great deals, and you get a nice portion of taco sauce with your tacos. But keep in mind taco Tuesday deal is take out only. Oh and its mini wet burrito Wednesday! My usual order... Botana nachos are my favorite. Steak flautas and chicken enchiladas, chicken steak tacos. Local place. Had tried it right after covid and it was OK. Tried it again last month and have been back twice. Much improved, or perhaps just back to normal. Hot fresh chips and homemade salsa. Food is definitely a step up from many other Mexican places I've tried. Often the rice and refried beans are just filler. These have flavor. Service is prompt and friendly. These are the best margaritas in town! La Cina is a small quaint restaurant located in the Grosse Pointe Detroit Area. They occasionally have live music and limited seating. I typically order the Detroit special which is always yummy and super filling. They are generous with their portions and it has a nice flavor. We've been going to La Cina for years. Convenient location for the GP area. Chips are always hot and fresh. Salsa is good. My wife recommends the Botana. I always get the Chipotle Chicken tacos...very good. Large portions! Service is always friendly. Allen has been there for years and is always fun to talk with. They added a full bar a few years ago which has make the experience even better. Perfect little neighborhood family spot. read more

With its new higher prices, and more limited menu, La Cina gets the dubious ranking of "Completely Average" from this foodie. In the past, La Cina offered a larger menu, specials, and Taco Tuesday. Now all of that is gone. Nonetheless, you do get standard American Mexican fare. You get good chips and salsa, complimentary, upon arrival and free refills on request. They offer a bar and liquor and beer selections inside. Interesting enough you cannot just get single tacos. The ambiance is average, rather small dining room with no outside eating options. Overall the food isn't terrible, but it isn't great. When we think Mexican, La Cina is more of a "If we have to and don't want to drive" option. So if you have choices, take them and try somewhere else maybe in Mexicantown. read more

Not as great as I was hoping. The food was good, a solid 3star, but the staff was what earned the fourth star, our server was super friendly and accommodating to all are requests. I do not recommend bringing young ones, there will be ppl drinking and cursing and the furthest table from the bar is only 15ft., so if you've got kids, maybe call ahead for carryout. read more

I bought 3 tacos for taco Tuesday - a shrimp, steak, and beef. They were very good. I had started to order a burrito, but it didn't come with very much filling just the meat/bean with cheese. My favorite place for Mexican food. I usually get some combination of the soft tacos (fish, chicken, or beef) but by the time they get to the table I am almost stuffed from the chips I start stuffing in my face from the second I sit down. The chips are always warm when they arrive and have made my wife forget about her previous favorite Mexican restaurant. I don't exactly know how to describe how the soft shells are prepared but they are always perfect and golden brown on the outside. read more

Our family has only gotten carry out from La Cina and it was good. I am not sure what some of the other reviewers experienced. The soft shell tacos aren't greasy, the meat in the enchiladas doesn't taste like it has been recooked (as I have experienced at Xochimilco downtown). The burritos are not greasy either, and the beans do not taste like they have been out of a can. All of the entrèes that we have selected had fresh vegetables (lettuce, tomatoes, chives) on the side. We could clearly taste the cilantro, but it wasn't overwhelming. The cheese isn't overly goopy and doesn't taste like it was taken from a Kraft bag. The tortillas aren't over cooked and hold up after reheating the next day. The salsa has a lot of flavor and a little heat which is blended almost smooth (it comes in handy so chunks of tomatoes aren't plopping off of your chip) and I am sure is made fresh. read more
