At Coriander, you might do a double take and wonder if you're actually in Detroit. I visited…read morerecently for a special event and was charmed at the location on the water, at the whimsical decor, and the social media-ready presentation of the food. I never knew about the canal district of Detroit, but the vibe feels like a vacation in Florida instead of the middle of the Midwest. Coriander ups that vacation vibe with bright paint, plenty of outdoor seating, and beautiful decor. All of our food tastes so fresh, and I loved the additions of things like edible flowers on the yogurt that we had with our parfaits. Service was appropriately attentive for a large group, and it never felt intrusive into our private event. I'll look forward to coming back sometime soon for another afternoon that feels miles away from everyday life!

We ended up barely squeezing into a circle space over the canal bridge and hoofing it on over to the space. The restaurant was cavernous, near full of patrons, and very loud. Our kind, young server had difficulty hearing our requests over the din. My companion enjoyed the Burnt Lemonade mocktail. I tried a glass of "Left Foot Charlie Blaufrankish" red wine. Not recommended. it was a $16, five ounce(?!) pour that tasted like sour, dark cherry vinaigrette. I ordered the Grilled Walleye. It was beautifully plated aside the cucumber salad and quinoa serving, but it tasted near flavorless, and lacked seasoning. Unfortunate at a $35 price point. My companion was disappointed in the overly-salted Pork Kapow dish he had ordered as well. We did agree however, the Chocolate Tahini Brownie was interesting, fudge-like in texture, and something to try for chocolate-lovers. Maybe it was an off day for the chef, and maybe the beverage manager left the wine opened for too long, but our experience was less than stellar today. It's a righteous concept placed in an area steeped in history and uniqueness, but the food in particular still had to hit the mark.

This place has been on my list of places to try for a long time and finally I went to go try it. I…read moream so disappointed with myself for not going any sooner. I absolutely love this place! Everything we tried was delicious. The pancakes were a standout for sure and were very fluffy. The service was great, clean atmosphere. I informed our server that this was our first time here and wasn't sure about what to get. She eagerly provided a rundown of the menu and some of her favorites. I truly appreciated her patience and attentiveness. I will definitely be back to try more items off the menu.

Lattes: The bonfire latte (special) had a strong espresso flavor, but it became sweeter as the marshmallows melted. I enjoyed this more than the lavender iced latte (special), though that ultimately came down to personal preference. Savory Breakfast Options: The triple triple omelette (regular menu item) is one of my favorite local omelettes, featuring three meats and three cheeses. The components of the sweet potato and pork belly hash (special) complimented each other nicely. It was served with house-made salsa verde and hot sauce. Sweet Breakfast Options: The campfire s'mores French toast (regular menu item) was rich and filling. The chicken and French toast (special) featured double-battered chicken tenders alongside Captain Crunch-encrusted challah French toast. Between the two, I preferred the chicken and French toast. The cinnamon swirl pancakes (regular menu item) are a classic dish here, and can be ordered as an entrée or a smaller side. Lunch Options: The birria tacos (special) were tasty, but a bit spicier than expected. Similarly, the Nashville hot chicken sandwich (special) definitely packed some heat. The chicken was sauced rather than coated in a dry rub. While I'm typically not a fan of chicken sandwiches that feature tenders instead of fillets, the size and quality of the tenders made this one work. The fries it came with had a fluffy interior and were lightly seasoned. Jagged Fork's variety and consistency over the years has kept me coming back. I often opt for the specials, but that's not a knock on the regular menu items. I'll be back to try more of the house favorites and new seasonal specials.
