We lived in the area for 13 years and somehow never noticed this place. Pretty sure lunchbox deli is in the witness protection program. Everything tasted incredibly fresh. The chicado salad had just the right mix of avocado, chicken, tomato, and ranch, and it all came together in a way that felt super satisfying. The california chicken wrap had great flavor from the chipotle mayo and bacon, and it somehow didn't fall apart like most wraps do. Even the tomato cucumber feta side felt thoughtful. It was light and crisp without being boring. The waiting area is tiny but the wait was only about 10 minutes, and totally worth it. We ate by the lake on a calm summer Sunday and it was basically perfect. We'll definitely be back -- might even pretend we just discovered it again. read more

It's not great, compared to other businesses in the area they are lucky they are still there. I do understand they have been there for a very long time. So respect and big ups! I never wanna see a small business go under, EVER! It just wasn't good, average AT BEST. Reminded me of a floppy sandwich I could get by getting some packaged lunch meat and packaged bread from the grocery store. Nothing special. Average basic sauce possibly big name bottle. I expected better. Used to taste better. Small front entrance can barely fit 6 people. Absolutely no parking. Pricey for what you get. I want better for this place, but personally I will not be back. I was searching for a Cuban sandwich and this place came up. It's literally a hole in the wall; a kid sat behind a small window like a ticket booth and took my order. The space had one chair and was otherwise crowded with racks of chips and other junk. I got my sandwich, and no I didn't tip the cashier for their effort of sitting behind a window, and when I got home I found I had bought a pulled pork sandwich with pickles. My husband and I have been going here occasionally for years. It's one of very few delis in the area, so we keep trying. The menu is vast and everything sounds tantalizing, but the execution is always poor. This time my husband's sandwich tasted of bleach, and mine just disintegrated. I had to bring it home to try to add more ingredients and heat it up properly. A vegetarian sandwich with two kinds of cheese (supposedly!) had only one slice. The garlic mayo was literally one huge tablespoon in the middle of the sandwich. The vegetables were all scant, and cut too large to be edible. So, I come here often due to the close proximity it is to my job(right across the street) and for as long as I have been coming I have always bought the same sandwich(for years) The Tony Danza. LUNCH BOX DELI SOUPS AND SANDWICHES FOREVER! Do not sleep on this place! I make sure to order some every time I'm visiting family in the Metro-Detroit area. First off, they are handling this pandemic so incredibly well. They have signs posted to keep distance and ask that only two customers are inside at once. All employees wear masks and they have a shield at the pickup window inside. Lastly, they offer contact free delivery. Now to the food - NOTHING has been bad here. Literally every single sandwich I have taken a chance on has been good. My go-to is typically the tuna melt. They add dill to the tuna and that really hits the spot haha. Everyone else seems to prefer the Outlaw, so I definitely recommend this one if you're not a fan of tuna. I wish I remembered all of the names of the sandwiches I tried, but even if I did, I'd be embarrassed by my smorgasbord. It's not just sandwiches that are great here by the way - it's soups too! Ones that immediately stand out are the dill pickle soup (oh good God) and the chicken tortilla (an absolute favorite of mine wherever I go, to be honest). Tl:dr: decent sandwiches, but don't expect too much. I've been here a few times before and have generally been happy with my order. The last two times, I followed their directions and ordered from them directly online to save on their administrative costs. The issue is, not all of their items are listed on the website ordering system, which means I have to call and find out what item to purchase for a similar price in order and include a note to please actually make what I want. Today, I do that same thing - and now they're telling me they no longer make a BLT (bacon, lettuce, tomato), which seems a little odd for a sandwich shop, but ok. Their tuna pasta salad gives me the option to add veggies for $.50, so I do, thinking maybe they'll throw in some cucumber and tomato, or maybe some broccoli and carrot. Uh, no. And the lady behind the counter didn't think she saw that on my order (I checked later, it's there) and said she really didn't even know what they would add. Then don't have it as an option! I was so flabbergasted, I couldn't remember if she was wearing a mask or not, which has sort of become a requirement for me in terms of good customer service. I got home, diced up some red onion and cucumber and a bit of salt (it needed seasoning). Not sure I'll be back. I know this only because I eat a lot of burritos, and I get an insert advertising "Lunch Box Deli - our sister store" in the take-out bag with the burrito. They even put discount coupons (which, unfortunately, I always throw away) for sandwiches at the Lunch Box Deli in the bag with the burrito. And, as with their burrito place, this deli serves up some tantalizing food. It's a very small place, near the corner of Cadieux and Mack, with a couple of small tables, and a sit-down counter inside, and a few parking spaces out front. As you might imagine, most of their trade is take-out. Small place, but huge menu. My first time here, and I ordered a Tuna Avocado Cheese Melt, which came on toasted pumpernickel. To me, the Nautical Deli in SCS is the standard by which all other delis are measured against. I was on the east side of town today and so sad to find the Nautical Deli closed (on Mondays). So, in a last-minute, hasty search for a back up, I came across Lunch Box Deli on Yelp. If you've ever been to the Nautical Deli, then you know that everything is new, clean, and shiny. The Lunch Box is sort of... eh... a hole in the wall. Not necessarily a bad thing. I've had some amazing food at local dives. Bottom line on Lunch Box... I ordered the Ivan Drago sandwich, which is rated at #4 on their Top 10 list. Food was decent. I liked my sandwich, but didn't love it. Meat to bread ratio was about 50/50. Prices are fair. Service was average. I probably wouldn't go out of my way for this place, but if I lived in the neighborhood, I might visit occasionally to try new sandwiches. read more

I would like to know which sandwiches all the 5 and 4-star raters are ordering because all 5 sandwiches I've tried here were dry and bland with sub-par ingredients. Yesterday I ordered The Bird, and the "grilled chicken" was cold, rubbery, diced chicken. The spinach leaves were also wilted and rubbery. There was next to no hummus on the sandwich and it was overloaded with feta cheese.
