Came here for coffee and light lunch. Not much space inside but we managed to snag a table. Pastries were good and so was the espresso of course.

    The house is the cutest

I read a review or two regarding the microwave preparation of food. I figured it wouldn't bother me that much, and had heard good things about their Oreo cheesecake dessert. However, after leaving the little house, I was significantly bothered! The house itself is adorable and nestled in a bright and picturesque neighborhood. The interior is clean and large windows let in lots of light. But the microwaved food...We got the eggplant lasagna, beef lasagna, and meatballs in a carrot curry sauce. It was like a basic encore lasagna. And we did not finish the curry. Something about the look of it was off putting. The bread was actually good and had some nice salt and seasoning. And we were told the Oreo cheesecake was awesome! It was not! The texture of the cheesecake was more like a dense pudding. The latte was fine; I liked the tall jar it came in. Really, I should have taken more heed to the microwave warnings. Go for the tiny house but stay away from the food!

This cafe is nestled off a beaten little path near the Colosseum. The vibe was definitely instagram worthy - we came for the pics but left feeling all the love and good things that Italy offers. Note - I'm not a huge coffee drinker so the Late I received didn't bother me (though it seemed like the same machine every other cafe uses...) the Nutella Pancakes were amazing. The music. The pipes. The vibes just everything was set for us to have a good time! You can definitely tell many locals go here so for that alone let's me know this establishment is one of the best! Next time we're in Italy I hope to stumble upon this cozy little corner once again

As someone who has been living in and traveling to Rome for the past three years, I haven't found a caffe that I enjoy as much as La Casetta. This tiny "little house" is in the heart of Monti, a fun and beautiful neighbourhood of Rome, 5 minutes away from the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Piazza Venezia. The food here is absolutely delicious, especially all of the homemade desserts brought in daily. There is an emphasis on fresh, wonderful, Souther Italian pastries that is difficult to find in other Roman bars. The cappuccinos are well done, there's a variety of teas, as well as pre-dinner drinks if you come by later in the day. The best part of La Casetta is Domenico, the owner, and his welcoming attitude towards guests. He will make you feel right at home with a coffee, slice of cake, and warm conversation. This caffe is family run, with the owner and his wife serving on location, and son-in-law making all of the delicious desserts and pastries that they serve. I truly cannot recommend it enough. If you want more detail about the caffe and what they serve (including some pictures), I've written up a review on my blog ( http://www.lavitaroma.com/2016/09/09/best-of-caffes-la-casetta/ ).

    Lasagna reheated with a microwave.

Yelp reviews has disappointed me for this one. They write of a husband and wife team - husband in the front of the house and the wife in the kitchen. What they neglected to say is that Chef Mic (microwave) works here. Our lasagna and meatballs as well as all other diner's order were subject to Chef Mic. For that it deserves the rating of 1 star. What perplexes me is the steady stream of seemingly locals that eat here. I would have expected them dine elsewhere with a place that does not feature Chef Mic. When I go out to eat I expect my food to be cooked with passions and commitment to a craft, and not reheated. At least the reheated food was decent. Otherwise the level of my ire would be up several notches.

Good place for a quick bite. They have italian coffee which is Nespresso. Nespresso is good but not what I'd expect in Italy or at a coffee shop. Cheesecake was decent. €7 for a double espresso and cheesecake

By way of introduction (to make this review as credible as possible to you) I live 10 steps away from this place and I am a foodie who used to wine and dine on limitless corporate tabs all over North America and Europe. Now, in Rome where I live, I come to the Casetta more than I enter my own kitchen in my house, for the following reasons: Food/How it works: At the end of the day, the food here is home-made, it does not leave you begging for water b/c your pasta dish was too salty and most of all, it is FRESH. Fresh meaning the ingredients are of high quality and made that day. Given the tiny size of this place, there is not actual kitchen here. He makes all the food in a kitchen near by (also by his family member) and gets them delivered every morning. On weekends when I park myself here from morning to night, you can see the pies and food delivery coming, literally by a cook with the hats cooks wear. I have heard some rather "young" and most of all rude tourists complaining to the owner that "food is not fresh, because I saw you warm it up in the microwave" - to which I could not stay put so I had to walk over and explain the situation in clear English and many seem to not even try to understand the owner trying to speak english. Regular Menu: Amazing cheese, veg plates, all custom put together by the owner on the spot. The pasta is always always always on point, varies from fettucine with vegetables, chicken, meat. The lasagna is usually available in red sauce with meat or pesto sauce (therefore more white sauce) with various veggies like asparagus or mushrooms. For second plates, the meatballs also come in red sauce, curry or white sauce with peas. He also has chicken dishes which always changes - the best I ever had was the chicken stuffed with mushrooms with wild rice. Just ask and he will tell you what he has in the store for the day. Dessert: He specializes in dessert but instead of the typical tiramisu or berries with cream as you will see in other Italian restaurants, here you will find home made pies and cakes. You can see all the pies in display and he will passionately explain them all to you. My absolute favorite is the ricotta cream cheese chocolate chip pie... also the pistachio pie and also the chocolate cream pie. The desserts change everyday so even if you come here every week like I do you will end up trying something new. Breakfast: He opens at 9 but the croissants will be available from 9:15ish. You can come in and smell the amazing REAL french flaky pain au chocolat / it is so different the other places with soggy chewy Italian wanna be croissants. But what is even better are the muffins - I am from North America which means I have had my share of muffins.. and I really miss them but the muffins in Italy are so horrible and worst of all so expensive. Here, he uses real butter and the size is just enough. The BEST is the banana chocolate chip and also the peach jam. Last but to least, the service here is the BEST. Domenico is the definition of Italian hospitality. He works alone (he has help for a few hours at lunch time on weekends) all day in this place and to EVERY SINGLE PERSON who comes through the tiny door he gives his extra friendliness. He used to be a professional in the corporate world but moved to Rome to start something new and most of all he is a foodie and appreciates GOOD food. He is genuinely happy when you eat well here and genuinely sad when you don't like something and will do his best to accommodate anyone who picks on things or complains about things. You are missing out in Rome if you miss this place. Usually, you won't have a place to sit if you come during busy meal time. Come see for yourself - I would not write this long review on Yelp unless I really stand by what I say. Enjoy the Casetta!!

Great service. Excellent Cappuccino and brioche with spectacular ambiance. Tiny place with 4 or 5 two tops and 2 four tops.

Delicious fresh food. I had the most amazing lasagna here. Owner was so sweet. Hidden gem.

Very cute place for a morning caffe and pastry!

Our hotel manager had suggested another restaurant, but I was apprehensive to try, but did later, more on that restaurant review in it's own post. I rather did what I should have done throughout the trip to, which is to search google for local reviews. This tactic I found to be much better than to trust American reviews for restaurants to visit from Youtube or even here, just because the American touristy taste tends to favor bland or Olive Garden style pseudo Italian. The real Italian taste is much different and something one needs to develop. I was familiar with European Italian food, as I had said before in other reviews that Mexico has better Italian food outside of Italy. Additionally, the good restaurants here in Italy do not open before 7 PM. If it does or if someone that looks foreign to Italy is outside trying to lure you in, it's a tourist restaurant with iffy flavor. At this restaurant my husband had the Lobster pasta and I had the spinach/ricotta ravioli, and we both were beyond satisfied. We also had the artichoke as an appetizer, and trusted the waiter with his suggestion for a bottle of wine. He must have been some genius because the wine went well with our meal. The ambience was cozy and very family oriented, however, the rain outside made it romantic for us. Another key point for this restaurant and it traditional flare was that they brought out the olive oil and red vinegar for our salad and of course olive oil for our wonderful home-made bread. I'm so glad we chose this place for those of us Americans who understand culinary cuisine.

Seafood risotto was fresh. Grilled radicchio was like stir fried. Dinner for 3 for 77 euros, impressively busy for a Tuesday night. Friendly staff, easy for English speakers. :)

Super pizza place with a lot of other great stuff on the menu…read more I looked with envy at the other tables who were enjoying spectacular plates of spaghetti with mussels. * * * That said, my pizza was a grand slam home run. Many of their pizzas are quite elaborate With all sorts of exotic ingredients. I went super simple. Gorgonzola. Mozzarella. That's it. Just enough Mozzarella to cut the Gorgonzola and make for a good melt. * * * If you have never had a gorgonzola pizza, you have never lived. Just sayin'. * * * P.S. My lovely wife got a Norwegian salmon pizza. The Norwegian salmon was stacked up high on her pizza As if she was in the World Series of Poker and she was a big winner. I have never seen so much salmon on one plate. After our meal, I made a discreet phone call to the Norwegian embassy in Rome asking them if they still had any salmon left. The woman at the embassy assured me the Norwegian salmon supply was fine. That surprises me given all the salmon that was on my wife's pizza.

However, they had apparently started having dining "outside" which consisted of a few tables-for-two on the sidewalk. My brilliant wife came of with the idea of asking if we could just take two of those tables next to each other so she dined with one daughter and I the other. We probably looked a little funny as we got up to share plates between the table but hey, we were seated in 5 minutes. Car traffic wasn't too bad so that wasn't a distraction though it was amusing seeing delivery bikes coming and going sometimes even returning constantly to the restaurant. Clearly a very popular place. I have to hand it to our waiter, he did a fantastic job serving not just the outside but his inside assignments as well. Guy got his steps in for sure and yet he smiled and was kind through the evening. Not a sign of stress at all. Love that. Food-YUMMY! Since we were on separate tables I didn't my normal "Wait let me take a picture first!" moments lol. We got the Fried Mix to start off with which. I personally ordered a pasta carbonara and the daughter I was sitting with got a margherita pizza. My wife ordered the chicken which was thinly cut breaded chicken slices. I ordered a red (Montepulciano d'Abruzzo) to go along with my meal. Don't have all the foodie pictures because of our split tables but trust me it was all fantastic.
