Beautiful and elegant presentations with simple preparations. Featured ingredients shine.
DONT LOSE HEART!
With a name like "atelier tartare" I expect it to be one of the best I'm going to have, if slightly experimental. Unfortunately it wasn't and the experiment was a failure.
But it's a "workshop" so experimentations abound. Some dishes a hit, others a miss.
I love the risk taking and push the edges of the norm.
Like the best sashimi meal, no matter how much you order, you still could eat more.
Order LOTS to sample the kitchen's current experimentations.
LE BAR CEVICHE
Tonight's special ceviche was a delicious and delicate thinly sliced octopus in a gentle marinade and perfectly paired with bitter sprouts.
BEEF TARTARE
I went for the top-tier beef tartare which is cut (of course it is cut -- ground is for fakers) into larger pieces. Yessss!
Although the egg yolk was concealed inside (cool!) It was drowned in a strange tomato sauce which I think was supposed to be an interpretation on ketchup.
Ruined the dish for me but my guests were so hungry that they gobbled it down.
++ aha! I get it about the palate indentations. It's so the plates can stack on the pass during preparation. Cool.
# two bottled beer options make it an afterthought. This place not for sitting and enjoying a beer with some bites after work.
### sharp metal mesh surrounds the eating area at arm level. If you're wearing fleece or cashmere, prepare to have your garment ruined if you sit next to the wall.
### Service is extremely slow. 45 minutes for apps, another 45 minutes for our mains. Either ticket times are 9-12 minutes, or our server just doesn't care enough to fire our courses timely. read more
