If I could give six stars for L & O Frame - I would! Larry is a true craftsman & artist. I'm honestly amazed that someone of his skill and longevity still exists in this town. Might I add - Larry does not overcharge like the majority of them - many of which are hacks. After losing my beautiful 54 X 54 framed photograph behind museum glass to a horrific accident when it crashed to the ground and into pieces an hour after it was poorly hung by a Task Rabbit guy. (Another hack) The accident destroyed the image and the gallery allowed me to replace the print at a discount. Distraught, I searched and found Larry. He literally picked up the damaged art himself to see if he could fix it first and reframe - which is more than 99 percent would do - he discovered I had been totally ripped off by the previous framing company who had my piece mounted on foam core etc - it was insane. The frame was ultimately destroyed (good riddens) and the photograph was beyond repair. I had the new print sent to Larry and he chose a GORGEOUS and perfect frame for the piece!!!! He delivered it himself by a dolly even though his back was out - this guy WORKS HARD and I RESPECT HIM SO MUCH. I used his guy (Mike) to hang it (professionally) this time and my new piece is back on my wall - back behind museum glass and it's STUNNING. My guests have all remarked at how beautiful it is! I live in the neighborhood, and have had several dozen pieces framed here over more than a decade, both for home and for our offices. Their work is high quality, with an attention to detail, the prices are fair, and Larry, the owner, will work with you until you've created something you are happy with. My artistic sense is probably a bit better than average, as I'm an amateur photographer. The shop itself is no frills - bare wooden floors in an old building - so if you want fancy, with little tiny halogen lights hanging from the ceiling and polished surfaces, you will have to go to Chelsea or someplace, but for good, honest work, done quickly at a fair price, you can't beat L & O. The only downside is that, as a small family owned business, their hours can be a bit erratic, so phone ahead. I would recommend L & O unconditionally. read more

I have lived in New York for 6 years and would not go anywhere else to get something framed. Larry and his team are excellent. The work is professional and and Larry is extremely nice and helpful. Their customer service is extraordinary and it is great to support a local business. I brought in a signed Apollo 11 photo and he turned it around in one day! He also added museum glass for next to nothing. The pricing is very reasonable, especially for New York. I found the service to be friendly, professional, and the price was right. Not only were the prices extremely competitive, the level of attention they gave me and the quality and speed of the job were exceptional. I needed to replace the glass that broke on one of my 36"x30" framed photos and they replaced the glass but also touched up the frame to make it look newer, added a firmer and brand new hanging wire at the back of the frame, and threw in two sets of picture hanging kits all for free. After a bad experience having some pieces framed in Chelsea, I happened upon L&O Frame downtown, and was SO HAPPY that I did. They were in the middle of a very busy work week, but still managed to provide excellent and friendly feedback on a painting I needed framed. They never made me feel rushed (which annoys me when framing services do that, especially when the average costs for framing is NOT cheap!), and even had creative suggestions that showed they took my personal preferences and tastes into consideration. While they cautioned that it might take a little bit of time to deliver due to their backlog (probably about a month), it arrived at my apt less than a week later!! I was so thrilled with the job AND the service, that I went back a few weeks later to get a frame matted, and again, it was a professional and friendly visit, and the matting looks beautiful. After we received a framed piece of art as a gift from a dear friend, but unfortunately, there was nothing to hang it on the wall on the back of the work. I popped into L&O and couldn't have had better, friendlier service. In less than 5 minutes, they had the wire on the back and the art back in my hand. During that time, they told me all about their history, the neighborhood, and their business. Super fast service, incredibly nice people, and a locally owned, family business. I'm exhibiting my photos in a gallery out in Montauk, and needed to get 18 photos framed - fast! The show starts on September 6th, only a week away from this writing! Actually, I have to have them there by the 5th, for the hanging. So I was in a real mess. I wasn't guaranteed I could have them in time. Everywhere I called said 2 weeks at least, and I'll actually lose a day because Labor Day is included in that two week time frame. Plus, those are a lot of shots I needed done. I searched around, made lots of calls, compared prices, etc. Everything was pretty expensive, and either they couldn't do a rush job, or they charged an arm and a leg to do it. I thought I would be forced to do that, since I was really under the gun. So my wife asked her boss (he's an artist), and he recommended L & O Frame. He's been going there for 20 years. I figured I'd give it a shot. What could I lose? I was running out of time. I brought all 18 photos there and spoke to Larry, who is so nice, patient, friendly, and (most important) knowledgable. I didn't feel like I was getting hustled or pressured to do anything. He has a great, easygoing personality and put me at ease. My wife went there, and called me up immediately and said "come down right away and bring your photos". She got a good vibe from Larry, and my wife is very skeptical and cautious. When I went inside and spoke to Larry, I totally understood what my wife meant. I felt the same way. I also met his wife Gabrielle, and she also knows her stuff. Very, very nice, friendly, and answered my questions when Larry was busy working his magic. I usually speak to Larry most of the time, but it's great that Gabrielle is there also, taking care of customers as well, and taking time out to talk and explain things when you need it. So Larry and I went over the photos, and he gave me great feedback - on each and every photo. And remember, I had a lot. Larry didn't give me the bum's rush - He took his time with me and gave me fantastic feedback. I didn't even know what frames to pick. I asked Larry (he's the expert, right?), and his suggestions were on the money! Larry's done a lot of shows, so of course he knows what the galleries are looking for. I really appreciated that information. So Larry brought out the samples, and we put them up against my photos. They looked like the right choices. But I still was nervous, not really knowing how they would look with my photos, hoping for the best. I was also very surprised with his prices. Lower than all the other places I called, and I have a lot of photos, so the prices added up. That day when I brought them in last Thursday, and I asked Larry if they could be done at least by the end of this week, the following Friday, the one coming up. No one else could guarantee that to me. Larry said yes, two weeks is usual. But he said he would start right away, since he knew I was in a jam. And that day was shot, since I got there close to the end of the day. Well, I got a call from Larry yesterday, telling me they were all done, 18 photos in less than a week, all framed, with 2 inch mats, glass - everything!! I was amazed! Larry saved my butt! And Larry did a fantastic job of packing them up. I know that they're very safe for the long trip I have to make. Also, he has a great guy named Dave Klym, who brought them straight to my door! He's very friendly, professional, and Dave had great advice about how to transport them (I'm going out from one end of Long Island to the other; a 3 hour trip at least!). I was so excited to see the pictures. I couldn't wait until next week when I bring them out for the hanging, looking at them for the first time there. They're my babies! I had to see! So Dave carefully opened up a particular package I asked for, since I knew which ones I was dying to look at. Also the way he did it, I think I can assemble them back the way they came. I couldn't believe my eyes! They came out much better than I imagined! I mean, I've seen Larry's work in the shop, and we went through picking the frames, plus I know what my photos look like, but seeing them finished, with the beautiful mat and gorgeous frame and glass - I couldn't be happier! The shots really pop. Larry called me this morning and told me they came out "awesome"! And he was right! They were better than I imagined. I know they'll look great in the gallery. I'm sorry I'm going on and on, but my wife says I write the way I talk - A lot! I know I'll be bringing all my work to be framed at L& O in the future, for every gallery show from now on - and even for individual photos that I might be selling. Even just one at a time. And even for my own walls! People will say "wow, where did you get that framed?" And hopefully they'll like the photo, too! :- ) I recommend that you go to L & O, too - for no matter what you need framed. It doesn't have to be for a show. Just to even put a beautiful frame on a favorite picture, or whatever you want framed. You won't be sorry! read more

I'm from out of town and while visiting my friend in the Financial District, she asked if I'd replace the broken glass in her poster-sized framed art. On late-afternoon Friday, I checked Yelp and found L & O. Larry was pretty much walking out the door when I called, but he offered to wait while I walked over. They fixed it while I waited: $32 including tax, and they re-tacked the art and added a paper backing. I just wish I had more art to bring them. They're going on my A-List. read more

L&O is the best framer I've found in the city. Larry, the owner, is extremely knowledgable and super helpful in determining the best colors, materials, and mounts to frame your art. I have had numerous pieces framed by him over the past five years and they are all by far the best frames in my collection. His ability to elevate artwork by framing it in a contemporary, clean way is unmatched. If I love a piece, I'm taking it to L&O. Every time. Sometimes the framing takes a while but that's the framing game. If you want quality, sometimes you have to be prepared to wait and pay a little extra for the best materials, craftsmanship, and attention to detail. People frequently comment on how good the pieces on my wall look, and that's mostly thanks to Larry. Never underestimate the ability of a quality, correct framing to preserve pieces. Never took anything for legit professional framing before having a print framed here. Was greatly satisfied with the work. Pricing was expensive, but you get what you pay for. Wasn't quite sure what kind of frame I wanted. Larry gave me several strong suggestions. He told me the frame I selected would take a month to get in since it was supposedly imported from Italy. I got a canvas I purchased in Hanoi, Vietnam stretched and framed with a simple white wooden frame. It cost $160 total and took about three weeks to do (half of the time of the estimate). I'm happy with how it looks as part of my living room gallery wall. The staff was friendly and helped me with my stroller in and out of the store which has a couple steps.
