Expect to wait a long time and get overcharged. My alternator died on the highway a few miles from this repair shop. I'm not from the area, so I took the tow truck driver's advice and told him to tow it to L and M. I dropped my car off on a Saturday afternoon when they were closed. With the key, I left a detailed note explaining what happened to the car and the exact service I wanted them to perform. I clearly told them to replace my alternator. I spoke to someone from the shop Monday morning when they opened for business. They said they would start looking at the car sometime that same day. A short while before close of business Monday I called about my car because no one had called about it. They tell me they didn't get a chance to look at it at all. Tuesday morning rolls around and I get a call before noon telling me that they ran a $180 diagnosis to figure out I needed an alternator. Really? Yes, I know that. I told you specifically when I dropped the car off Saturday my alternator died. They then started going over prices to do the job. The best they could do was $500 for a rebuilt alternator that sells online for less than $300. Also, supposedly my 2 year old battery wasn't holding a charge, so they would have to replace that. By the end of the phone call, with parts, labor, and the extra fee they hit me with to find out what I asked them to do was in fact true, I was looking at a $1364.09 bill. At this point, I should have had my car towed to my house to do the work myself, but that would have cost a lot because I don't live close to the shop. I told them to start working on the car and they said they would order the parts that day and maybe start working on the car Wednesday. No sense of urgency whatsoever. Wednesday goes by and I didn't hear from them. Thursday I called around noon or so. They said they got the parts Wednesday and someone was working on it. Got the parts Wednesday? I could have gone to a local auto parts store, got the battery and alternator, and dropped them off Monday. Multiple locations had the parts in stock. I politely asked they call me back when the car was done. Before close of business Thursday I received a call saying the car was done and my total was $1,364.09 and asked if I wanted to pay over the phone. I said I would pay when I picked it up. I was unable to get the car until Monday morning. When I arrived to pick the car up, I explained my displeasure with the extra charges and how long it took to fix my car. I offered to pay $1000 cash, which I felt was a reasonable amount for the work performed. The owner didn't care about my displeasure, and felt confident with the overpriced bill. The one star I gave goes to the mechanic that I presume did a good job with fixing my car? We'll find out I guess. read more

My husband and I have been to L&M on several occasions over the last several years, and while they do perform quality work, they do not operate their business very well. They do not process, schedule and perform their work in an orderly, timely fashion. Whereas once they accept your car for work, assessment of the required work should happen quickly (within one day) and notification and scheduling of this work should happen immediately afterward, even if the work can't be performed for a few days. I do not have the luxury of leaving my car in the shop for 3-5+ days. During my most recent visit I was told to bring the car in and I did so on a Monday. They said they would get back to me in a day or two. On Wednesday afternoon they gave me an estimate, and on Thursday, once we agreed to the work and cost, they said they could order the part, schedule the work and have the car back by Monday or Tuesday. At that I point I checked with the dealer who gave me a better price, and I picked up my car, brought it to the dealer, and had the car back early Friday afternoon. If I hadn't brought my car to the dealer I would have not had use of my car for 8 days. Not acceptable. Side note: their price was higher than the dealer's, their hourly rate is the same, and they recommended additional work which wasn't needed at the time - just suggested due to the age of the car. read more

Whether you own an American or foreign made car this is the place to bring it to be repaired. The prices are extremely reasonable and the owner Mike is a straight shooter who doesn't make up things that may be wrong with your car but he and his crew diagnose the problem and give you a fair estimate to do the repair. If you're still taking your car to the stealership to get taken to the cleaners for a simple or complicated repair stop cheating yourself. If you try L&M you won't be sorry and you might even thank me for it. read more

Took my land rover in recently for a few different things - didn't feel like I was getting up charged for the list of things that needed to be done. The first thing I noticed at L & M Auto Center was the friendliness of the crew. Eileen was the office manager who greeted me with a friendly hello. I then met Mike, then Lenny. Again, friendly hellos. But all the friendliness in the world wouldn't matter if the crew wasn't top-notch. Aside from the great personalities, this shop employs some of the best in the business. They quickly diagnose the problem, give you a price that they honor. No "surprises". I actually bought my car through L & M. They matches me up with a customer who had all her services done here. It's a good car and any work I've had done here is routine maintenance. I couldn't be happier with the car and I most definitely couldn't be happier with L & M. They get the work done right the first time and when I did some shopping around, they offer the most reasonable pricing. As a footnote, I think this place would be a great reality show. The joking around, despite being busy as hell here, would make for a really interesting program. Try them out. You won't be disappointed! read more

My family has been using L&M Auto for something like 34 or 35 years. They are a family owned business. I like that! Lenny and Mike are wonderful and knowledgeable about everything cars... especially when I walk in saying my car is making this (dumb) sound or the "butt" light or "candy" light is on! They don't have exorbitant prices, I consider them to be fair or better to their competitors. My last service was on 2 of my 3 cars having to jockey back and forth which car can they do first and according to what they needed. Pretty much at the same time. They made it super simple. Mike and Lenny's staff are incredible smart and really funny. (Prior to Covid) I liked to wait for my car to be done just so I could go and watch the "show" The shop is clean, front desk is friendly and helpful. Even the ladies bathroom is clean (unlike other shops I've been in) I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this business for your car maintenance! They treat you like family! read more

This is a follow up review for this business. My car needed new tires and just for the heck of it I checked with the dealer to see what they charge to mount and balance new tires, they told me they only do that if I buy the tires from them and the total cost with out tax would have been $1,150 plus tax. I usually buy my tires from tirerack.com and have them sent to a local auto repair to have them mounted and balanced which I did with L&M Auto Service in Lincroft. They charged me $177 (tax included) to mount and balance all 4 tires and even torqued them to the factory specs. Like the first time I used L&M, the work was done correctly, at the quoted price and super fast. They are without a doubt one of the best well run Auto Repair services in Monmouth County bar none. Cars are expensive and mine is nearing its 6th birthday and I take care of it simply because I don't want to be forced into having to buy one with an EV battery and if you're looking for a reputable and competent service shop, L&M is it! The L & M team is the standard of what we all want when we go to an auto center. Their pleasant when you come in, and upfront with what will be done on your car. I have never ever felt that they were "just trying to make a buck off of me". When I called to check what was done on my car, the mechanic that actually did the work called me back and detailed out each item on my receipt. I was rear ended in my Chevy 3/4 ton Suburban while dropping my kids off at school. Sadly the kids jeep his square on my trailer hitch and drove the hitch etc into the back of my car and punctured the rear fuel tank. L&M fixed the tank, and stayed with it till everything was all repaired and everrything done correctly, and we were all set. Called for an appt. this past Mon. 7/27 for alignment & some tire issues & was scheduled for Thur. 7/30. Explained at time of scheduling I would need car by 3pm & was guaranteed it will be. At 2:05 on 7/30 I called for status update & was told a few cars ahead of me give them a couple hours. I said I was guaranteed it would be ready by 3 when I made the appt. (even dropped car off night before). Nevertheless car wasn't ready until a little after 3:30. No one was wearing masks which is an executive order! None of the employees in the small lobby, not even the one customer in the lobby...& the tech who test drove my car was in my vehicle unmasked. He wiped it down but I had to ask them to spray Lysol! Are you kidding me? As a high risk customer I felt very uncomfortable & felt it unprofessional not only not have my car ready when I was guaranteed it would be by specific time but to have no concern over safety when a pandemic is occurring & numbers are going back up... overall disappointed. read more

I was travelling from NY City to Lincroft to visit an elderly uncle. My car battery died in the gas station across the street from L&M. I walked over and they send a guy to jump start it for me. I wasn't sure if the battery would hold a charge or not so I asked if I could not start it would they be able to come get me (about 5 miles away). They said sure. Sure enough, my car did not start so I called. They held me on the phone while they checked availability of a replacement. Told me they could come get me at 3.30 when the new battery would be expected to arrive. They changed the battery in the time it took me to get a cup of coffee! Great, friendly service at a fair price. If I lived in the area I would use only L&M. Hard to find good, honest mechanics! read more

I've taken my cars, a BMW 3-series and a vintage jeep to Mike and his team at L & M for over 4 years. They know their business and are very fair on how they conduct business. I have never been surprised by an charges on my vehicles. Like any service center, they are not perfect but the one time a part failed after they fixed it, they had me bring it right back in and replaced it without question or any additional charges. L & M is very expensive...I ended up spending more than what Lexus dealer was charging me for the same service. In addition, L&M took two days to do a simple repair since he went to the dealer to get the part. He charged 25% more than the dealer would charge me for the same part. He did not offer loaner car (dealer did). Bottom line is - if a non-dealer repair shop ends up charging me more, then something is really wrong with the place. Either they want to make more money, or their business model is screwed up. read more
