Not only did Hunter arrive a bit early--which I always appreciate for service calls--but he wasted no time getting to the task at hand and completed the work within the expected timeframe. I've been with Columbia Heating & Cooling for many, many years and have never had an issue or costly repair--the true mark of a company and its employees doing their jobs at the top level. Hunter's engaging personality, helpful suggestions (especially replacing the huge pressed board cover I leave on the top of the exterior AC unit at end of season until restart the following year--with a mesh cover!) and overall 5 star customer service and support was in keeping with my expectations. Also, my rescue dog, Penney, and he took to each other immediately which is always a good sign for me! Why change to a different contractor if, when it's working at a 5 star level, there's really no reason to change?! I still encourage the owners to offer a Veteran discount (with Veteran proof of status provided, of course) in addition to the seasonal tuneup pricing as we disabled vets, who are most likely senior citizens living on a fixed income, would really appreciate the additional $ help! Turned out they couldn't do the work that day since of course, they don't carry all parts for every furnace in their vans, so I called and asked if they would waive the $99 since it was THEIR FAULT the work couldn't be done that same day when I had the repairs done?Nope. Insisted the work had to be done the same day. Definitely a scam!! I am not having them do the work even if it is cheaper because I won't use this type of business.

It's been nearly a year now since I had our HVAC system installed, so I have been able to see how…read moreit performs in all seasons and I'm ready to write my review. My initial goal with this project was to replace a nearly 20-year old 60k BTU furnace as well as have A/C installed, which the house did not previously have. I had 3 companies come and give me quotes, and eventually decided on Integrity Air. The house is a 1949 cape cod and had a few limitations that had to be resolved during the quoting process. The first is that the furnace and hot water heater are both housed in an outdoor closet on the back patio that had room for no bigger than a 14" furnace. The other 2 companies could only find me a 40k BTU furnace that fit in that space, which was less output than we currently had. Since it is an older house and not as well-insulated as a newer home I wanted at least the same size furnace (heat wise) as our current setup. Integrity was able to find a 66k BTU Lennox furnace that fit and their quote was even less overall than the other 2 quotes with the 40k furnace. The A/C unit they quoted us was also a higher output than the other 2 quotes I received. The larger output was not oversized for both the size and age of our house. The overall quoting process was very straightforward, which I appreciated. The rep that came out (Jace) was very down-to-earth and explained everything very well while answering all of my questions. There was no pressure and it was more informational than it was a sales pitch. It was clear that he was enthusiastic about what he was doing, which was a nice touch. Once I decided to move forward with the project they came early in the morning in early January and were able to replace the old furnace and get the A/C installed all in a single day. The A/C hookup included having a licensed electrician come out to install a dedicated circuit which was coordinated by them and set up for the same day as the install. I liked that they included the electrician in their quote and set that up for me, as one of the other quotes I got included no electrical work albeit being more expensive than Integrity Air. The team of workers was very professional and hard-working and did an excellent job with the install. The only thing that I would have done different in hindsight is something that I didn't even think about at the time of the install. The media cabinet they installed between the bottom of the furnace and the ductwork coming from the house's air return holds a non-standard size filter and they provided a custom filter on install. There was enough room to make the cabinet just slightly bigger to fit a standard size filter so now my options are either to order one slightly longer and not as tall or to pay twice as much for a custom filter to be built for me. Luckily the door of the media cabinet has enough of a cavity in it that the larger filter will still fit but if I had to do it all again it would be something that I would keep in mind. Other than that I was very happy with the service and would definitely recommend Integrity Air for your HVAC install!

I asked them if they mark up the price of parts, but they kept dodging the question. After some pressing, they eventually said they do mark the price up but refused to tell me by how much. Huge red flag there! I told them the specific part I needed replaced but they refused to tell me how much they would charge for the new part unless I pay them $109 + $48 per 15 minutes for someone to come out and take a look first. Why can't they tell me the price of the part until after I pay them a bunch of money? It seems obvious to me they're going to jack up the price of the part and don't want to tell me the price beforehand because they know it's way overpriced. It seems impossible to find an ethical HVAC company these days.

Ultimately, it was easy for us to choose Chase because: They offered excellent, detailed quotes for each option. They took the time to talk about the location of air handling unit, the exterior heat pump unit, and the location of all the vents or split units so we would understand what the final product we live with will be like. They worked with us to locate vents in our basement that would allow us to save room for a future remodel. They understood our goal of maintaining a separate unit for our upstairs which is only 5 years old. They did not try to upsell us on an oversized system (which Jacobs definitely tried to do). They added a service to remove the ancient furnace. Our bid, installation, and completion dates were all on time and within the bid. Paul is very approachable and has a crew that can tackle minor issues that might come up dealing with adjacent plumbing, electrical, etc. I work in the energy efficiency and climate change field and appreciate that Paul and Jennifer are knowledgeable about the efficiency of various options and treated my energy and building expertise with respect. This was not true of other HVAC companies that gave us low-quality bids. I have been recommending Chase to everyone I know. We have had the York central heat pump system in operation for the last month and feel Chase did an excellent job at the installation. It is important for homeowners to understand what the experience of heat pump systems will be vs. natural gas furnaces (note, natural gas burns clean but extracting it is terrible for the environment) or vs. electric baseboard heaters (click click click). Heat pumps are eligible for rebates for low-income households and tax credits for high-income households and Chase helped with information about this too. When you have done your research and know you want to go with a heat pump, call Chase!

If they had approached me and said "Hey, we're so sorry, we just now caught this billing error," it would've been easier to stomach... or even better if they ate the loss as a learning lesson for their billing department. Since three years has passed, I don't have the paper trail to know why this amount wasn't paid - it was $220 compared to the $3800 I did pay, by the way. They said they've tried to contact me about it since, but I have no record of that. I'm not sure why they're just now asking for it - new management? Financial trouble? While the original service on my chimney was good, the handling of this situation has left me disappointed and reluctant to use or recommend them in the future.
