$30 bought -two processed ham sandwiches on subway sized french bread roll--the baguette crust was there, the bread was created to be baked to hold a carefully measured, probably about 2 ounces of folded ham and withstand the heat of quick convection heat to melt that renown French Butter (land of the lakes unsalted has more taste, hint) a chocolate chip cookie with great melty chocolate and about three inches deep sugary sweet bread dough also heated and two bottles of water and a seat at a dirty table that luckily had been bussed. In this do-it-yourself fast food mecca, there's no place to dump garbage, and unlucky dinners who want to sit down have to wait for a harrassed busser to clean the table. A limited menu, and your overpriced offerings including boxed salads that looked like mostly lettuce for the people we saw grazing, doesn't bode well for the future of this currently crowded outpost with the LeBernadin pedigree, Next door, the Chipolte was crowded with probably a regular lunchtime crowd and the tourists for the Xmas special at Radio City.NYTimes gushing short review--the unbelievable baguette, it was unbelievable as a baguette--maybe a french version of a subway roll, that butter, the specially processed ham--probably brought in a crowd--it lured us in, and we won't be back--that new French fast food bistro in Rock Center is looking more appealing now. With its limited menu--two sandwiches, two soups, some overpriced pastries, a few croissants, and those monster chocolate chip cookies not sure what the longer-term prospects will be for l'ami Pierre
but it's not a franchise opportunity, and Eric is going to have to sell a lot of croissants if her wants to quit his day job. read more
