Amazingly cute and cozy restaurant that will blow you away with something different than your standard French cuisine. The specialty here is flammekueche, a thin crust onion and cheese pizza-like deliciousness! Beyond the amazingly delicious and different food, the place also provides quality service and a wonderful atmosphere to enjoy your meal with a loved one or friends with some drinks!

Looks like a pizza but not quite and even better!

Phenomenal food and drinks! We were on vacation in Paris and on this particular day (Aug16) we had been sightseeing around Notre Dame and wanted some good comfort food after walking around all day. It was late and we weren't sure if we would be able to get a reservation. Found this place on the internet and what a great find this was! Flammekueche is a must when you come here. It's like pizza but better. Crust is almost like a cracker crust and amazing toppings like cured bacon, onion etc with a light white cream sauce. We ordered the charcuterie board which had a nice assortment of meats and sausages. We liked the Flammekueche so much that we ordered another to carry back to our hotel. They also have a good selection of Alsatian wines. Our waiter was attentive and friendly. His suggestions were on spot for the drinks and food. The restaurant is small, quaint. A bit tucked away from the nearest main street but worth the find. This was a perfect dinner for my family after a day of walking around Paris. We will be back for sure on our next visit to Paris.

Alsacien pizzas and a fresh salad!

Stopped here for dinner on our first night in gai Paris. We stayed in the the 5th arrondissements and walked across the Seine to the 1rst to satiate my wife's hanger pains for a taste of some Alsacien tarts (thin crust pizza, traditionally with onion, creme freche and lardon). We had a reservation but the wait doesn't appear it would have been too bad. We were seated quickly and assisted in English (and some French once my wife started speaking in French) and placed our orders. We shared a fresh and crisp salad, two tarts and I had a beer. She had a soda type drink. They give you a buzzer and when it goes off you head to the kitchen counter to get your delicious pies. Bon appétit!

Not impressed. I don't see why this place is rated 5 stars. Had the flammekueche which was the best thing i had there, really light and simple taste, the pork really didn't add much flavor, its primarily the onion and cream that dominates. Good, I'm sure it could've been better, first I've had of a pie like that so I'll reserve judgement. Charcuterie was awesome, would've liked more baguette but nobody asked. Had to get my own food from the chef too. No biggie, but still, i don't like to work when i go to a restaurant. See my other reviews on places that do this. Last we had the profiteroles, 8 bucks for 3 of them covered in a super sweet chocolate, way to sweet, and the whole dish was swimming in cheap whip cream. Like the waxy filmy kind you get from a spray can. Not excited. Also they got both of our orders wrong but that may have been a language discrepancy so i won't count that. I don't recommend unless you're really wanting some flammekueche. 3 star for that.

Delicious light airy pizza food but better. The ladies working were very kind and patient. The desserts (we had the profiteroles) also did not disappoint. It is a small venue and gets very busy - get there early!

The size discrepancy between wine and beer is astounding!

The other night, we decided to bar hop across a few neighborhoods. The third bar was L'Alsacien, a small bar/restaurant with an adorable, friendly, accommodating staff. We sat toward the kitchen window and perused the short menu. We started things off asking for red wine (Pinot Noir) and a recommended beer (Fischer amber). Realizing that we should also try to give ourselves a fighting chance for a long night of drinking, we decided to order a flammekueche. The traditional is creme fraiche, sauteed onions and chopped up bacon. Our server told us that the buzzer on the table will light when our order was ready. We settled in with our drinks and complimentary pretzels. After a few short minutes, our buzzer went off and we were given our flatbread. This thing looked and tasted amazing. I've had this particular dish before but it was much thicker. This had a deliciously thin crust that was perfectly crisp on the edge. Be careful not to lose any of the amazing toppings when bringing it to your mouth; stabilize with your other hand! Once our drinks and flammekueche were done, we asked for the check and headed to the counter to pay. It was then that we noticed a camera to a downstairs room which can be rented for larger parties where you can play your own music and order your beer and wine and flatbreads. This is definitely a place to check out but it certainly filled up fast as we sat there around 630-7. The staff was very pleasant and willing to do as much as possible to give us a great experience, including speaking english whenever possible. Thanks, L'Alsacien!

You're at the right spot if you're looking for Flammekueche. It's basically delicious pizza on a crispy and flakey crust. This is the only pizza crust I eat. I came with 5 friends, so we were able to order 1 of each Flammekueche. Each person can eat about 1-1.5 pies each. My favorite one by far was the apple, honey, goat cheese and ham. The rest were delicious, but that one is a winner. If I had to choose my top 3, the wild mushroom and rabbit pies were great as well. They have seasonal menu items, so you may be able to try different toppings.

    Flammekueche!

So, I tell my better half that I want to try this Alsatian bar that I pass by to get to my most frequent parking station for my Vélib (that's free French bike for those not in the know). It's never open in the mornings but I've seen it as it opens up, looking bright but with cosy decoration, both modern and homey, as if you're hanging around in a friend's kitchen, but one that is new and stylish. I tell him it's a pizza restaurant, based on an image I saw on the web. But I'm completely wrong. L'Alsacien specialises in flammekueche, a specialty of the Alsace region, also known as a Tarte flambée. It does have a passing resemblance to a pizza, but is a bread dough rolled out very thinly, and then covered not with a tomato base but with crème fraiche and other toppings. Wikipedia tells me the dish was only made at home until the 1960s when pizzas became popular, and it moved into restaurants (there seem to be a few in Paris from Alsace) and now L'Alsacien says they are the first flammekueche bar. I thought it was absolutely sensational. Crisp, hot, savoury and delicious. I love discovering new dishes! The service, by the way, was nice as can be.

Great food. Terrific service which is apparently hard to come by in Paris. Very friendly staff. They did their best to speak to us in English which was helpful. The food was absolutely delicious! Put this on your list of food places to eat. You won't regret it.

This spot made for a perfect quiet lunch hide out after dealing with all the crowds of Notre Dame, nearby. Their flatbreads were tasty and the beer selection complimented the menu perfectly. If you find yourself in this 1st Arrondissement alley, stop in for a bite and enjoy the cozy attmosphere.

    Friendly and hospitable owner!

Don't miss the opportunity to try their La Tradition (traditional) Flammekueche (flatbread) with onions, bacon, and creme fraiche! You won't regret it! Steve A.

I've been searching for tarte flambee ever since I visited Colmar last year. We have nothing close to this in the US, so when I went to Paris for a few days after a work trip I tried to find a place to experience this delightful 'pizza' and voila! Wonderful service and large portions for lunch. If you come between 1-3 pm on a weekday you can get a lunch special. I had a salad and flammekueche and it was too much, but fabulous.

    Pamela D.

Oh my cousins in Alsace! Please don't hate me... I think this may be the best flammekeuche I've ever had. For €8.50, the dish, the service and the atmosphere were a welcome respite from the crazy shopping scene a few yards from Rue de Rivoli. I didn't have room for dessert, but I wish I did. My fellow diners seemed to really be enjoying theirs. Just a short note about the younger set - this is a great place for families. The kids were happy and comfortable. They didn't have to wait too long and loved their lunch as much as I did. Perfect choice to expand your repertoire of French cuisine.

On the other hand, it made me realize that my mother was a terrible cook. Bistro des Augustins is a small, cozy venue offering both indoor seating and terrace seating near Pont Neuf. It serves a small number of curated dishes, including a wonderfully traditional Bistro Gratin in a homey ceramic dish served piping hot with a brown crispy cheesy top, herbs, spices and chicken. You can also get it with salmon. My brothers and I only saw my mother use our gas range to light her cigarettes, sanitize needles to remove our splinters, and make s'mores during the summer months when she couldn't muster the energy to take us 'outside camping.' I mean, all she had to do was borrow a cookbook, which I'm sure were readily available from maybe a neighbor or in any local bookstore or the public library. How hard is that? I was the only kid who brought a can of tuna and his own monogrammed can opener to school every day. Every day. And mom convinced me that the tuna holster she got me for my birthday was cool and hip. I was a naive mercury-filled fool, although I did become a very fast runner in junior high school because of the tuna holster. The interior décor of Bistro des Augustins is informal and vintage bistro style - wooden tables, traditional chalkboard menus, and soft lighting - creating a relaxed and comfy ambiance. My eyes have been opened to what's possible. Thank you Bistro des Augustins for expanding my culinary horizons. Five stars.

THE FOOD ------------------…read more= Fermier - Cheese gratin with chicken was good. Didn't blow me away, but was solid with the creaminess of the sliced potatoes and emmental cheese combined together with mixed vegetables. The cheese was very strong though, so anything else was unfortunately pretty much overpowered by it. Arrived with bread, but it DEFINITELY could use other carb options to sop it all up (e.g., rice???)! = Landais - Cheese gratin with duck. Same comment as the above, except the Landais had egg and goat cheese also mixed in with almost the same ingredients as the Fermier. THE SERVICE ----------------------- + The lone waitress, who also worked the role as greeter, cashier and bartender was friendly. + Food arrived within 10 minutes of ordering.
