L'Alivi - French Near Me - Paris, 75

This is a terrific, intimate, romantic restaurant in the heart of Le Marais. My date and I had the Croustifondant dish as a starter and it was truly a unique experience of flavors and textures. Wow! (see photos) We then tried the lamb with pasta and the Filet de Bœuf with polenta fries. All very good. I did wish the Filet came a little more rare, but it was minor. The desserts were definitely the highlights, with the Bombe au Chocolat (chocolate bomb) having not only a chocolate-dusted hard chocolate shell containing chocolate ganache inside, but placed in a bed of delicious cream and rimmed with leaves of mint and soft slices of pear. The Tiramisu had a unique preparation (see photo) and the chef drew a beautiful treble clef sign in chocolate sauce on the plate. All of this tasted ridiculously good. The ambiance was lovely, with outdoor patio seating with some heaters to provide some warmth. The place seems pretty popular and is small, so I recommend doing reservations if they take them, or showing up very early or very late! This place is terrific! Bathrooms: There's only one unisex bathroom, so don't wait until you're dying to go. That said, it was clean, spacious, and quite nice. In case you get lost, FYI, it's downstairs. read more

We got the beef tenderloin with polenta fries (pic attached!), and it was super tasty! The whole dish was fantastic, and of course, with every restaurant in Paris, we got tons of bread to start off with! They have outdoor seating, as well as free wifi here. Bottles of wine are also cheap compared to what you get in the States, which is always a bonus! read more

Had our first dinner on our latest trip to Paris at L'Alivi and it was better than we even expected. We have a high bar for Paris restaurants as they are so often excellent, and L'Alivi definitely lived up to that standard. We did the three course menu which was a great value. All of our dishes were delicious. They make their kir with a chestnut liqueur which is unique and sooo good. Actually the best kir we've had anywhere. The atmosphere was very pretty and cozy on a cold January night and the service was super friendly and polite. There were lots of locals in the place which is always a good sign. read more

My college friend recommended we try to place as we reunited with our other college friends. She made reservations for about 9 o'clock and we arrived a little earlier and they were able to accommodate us pretty quickly. They specialize in Corsican cuisine which is an island off of France. The place is small but the ambiance is cozy rather than constrained. They eve had a troubadour playing live music inside and outside the restaurant. I ordered the pork dish which came with mashed potatoes. Oh my goodness it was probably one of the best things I've ever eaten. Only one of four meals during my stay in France that I cleared my plate. The pork was perfectly juicy and the outside was crispy and the fat was rendered perfectly. The mashed potatoes were bomb and add a drizzle of olive oil and it makes all the difference. We had a party of about 10 and there were no complaints from anyone about their food. Loved it and wold return. read more

3.5. I would give this place a 5 but my risotto was just that bad! Starter: As a starter, I ordered the chilled tomato soup with green apple. The crunchy chunks of apple added an interesting tartness to the refreshing concoction. It was so lovely in fact that I thought maybe I would be so uncouth as to pick up the glass and sip the last drops sans spoon. To my horror, the glass was somehow welded to the serving plank so if I wanted to drink straight from the glass I would have to lift the whole board to my face. I'm greedy, but not that greedy. Main: As a main, I ordered the risotto with basil and shellfish while my friend ordered the Souris d'Agneau braisée or braised lamb shank. I was very pleased with how photogenic my dish was, so when the first bite revealed a flavorless lump of rice I thought perhaps my taste buds were mistaken. After consuming half of the dish my suspicions were confirmed: the risotto was indeed utterly lacking in flavor. Copious amounts of salt helped a little, but then I really only tasted salty mush. The lamb on the other hand was cooked and seasoned to perfection, so that the meat fell of the bone, oozing delicious juices. As if the meat wasn't flavorful enough, the dish was served with a rich accompanying jus. I sulked in serious food envy. Dessert: For dessert we split the tiramisu. I didn't have very high hopes. Usually when I eat tiramisu I spend so much time coughing on the excessively piled powdered cocoa that I don't have any time to actually enjoy the lower layers. The tiramisu at L'Alivi was exceptional though. All the ingredients and flavors were perfectly proportioned. Well if I were being truthful I would have preferred something the size of deep dish lasagna because that's just how good it was. Sweet but not too sweet, creamy but light, chocolaty but with plenty of coffee. It almost made me forget about how terrible the risotto was! The verdict? This place serves amazing Corsican fare but choose your dishes wisely. The risotto was truly terrible, but the chilled tomato soup, the braised lamb shank, and the tiramisu were sublime. If the weather is nice, sit outside on the quaint terrace and watch a youthful mix of tourists and locals stream by. This place isn't cheap, but you're paying for quality and location. A set three course menu will set you back 34€, not including wine. read more

Tried this place while on a food tour. It was pretty good! Everybody had a beef dish covered in mashed potatoes. This place serves cuisine from the island of Corsica, which is French (not Italian like I thought!). The service was very good. The restaurant is small and cozy and in a great area. We rented an apartment around the corner from L'Alivi during our honeymoon, and kept passing it. I'm so, so glad we stopped in. For my starter, I had the cream of chestnut soup. It is now on one of the top five most delicious things I've ever eaten in my life. Creamy, savoury, nutty, all the right flavours were highlighted in this bowl of goodness. I licked the bowl clean with a piece of bread (don't worry, I'm not so uncouth an American to literally lick a bowl). The main dish was very good, but overshown by my soup. I ordered the canneloni. The pasta was clearly homemade, the ricotta creamy and a bit nutty and sweet, and the tomato sauce bright and flavorful. My husband had a chopped suckling pig, still on the bone. His starter was cheese stuffed mackerel, which he loved as well. I would send anyone visiting Paris to this restaurant. I'd never had Corsican food before, and it gave me a great glimpse into the cuisine. read more

Yum! I work in the neighborhood and have been meaning to try this place for a while. My family came to visit so we took the opportunity to have a nice dinner out. The meal started with an appetizer of some cured meats - delicious - and some sort of wine aperitif. Then between the 4 of us we had the sea bream, the pork, the lamb, and the veal. All were incredibly tasty and filling. The aubergine that came with the veal was a standout. Dessert ended with tiramisu and the best creme brulee I have tasted. Had an a Corsican digestif to finish the meal off. Everyone was full and happy. Atmosphere is great. We sat on the terrace and the inside is cute as well. Service is on the slower side if you're an American but normal for France. Just be patient - it's worth it. read more

My travel partner and I stumbled upon this cafe after wanderin the Marais for a few hours. It was possibly the best meal I had during my stay in France. I only spoke rudimentary French (as in, maybe 8 phrases) and the waitress graciously spoke English to us. On top of that I have a pescatarian diet (no meat, chicken, pork) and was worried that I might stick out at this restaurant. I have no problem ordering a delicious meal without feeling like I was putting out the chef. I ended up with the bruschetta (which came with 1 piece of bacon that my table mate happily ate up) and it was TO. DIE. FOR. It came on a slab of french bread and tasted heavenly. My main course was the lobster risotto --- oh so good. I highly recommend ordering this dish. It was the perfect size and the rice was cooked beautifully. My travel mate had the goat - it was a little difficult to eat but the potatos that accompanied it were heavenly. We shared the egg flan with lemoncello. Neither of actually knew what we had ordered and only got it because we recognized the liquor but it was tasty. Flan isn't my favorite thing but it was enjoyable. read more

This was our last night in Paris and the weather was potentially very rainy so we looked for a place close to our hotel. L'Alivi sounded both interesting and worthy of a final night dinner. It did not disappoint. We weren't terribly hungry but the description of the Tagliatala (sp?) steak sounded wonderful and it was. Unlike other steak we'd had in France it was tender, perfectly rare yet cooked with a delicious pesto lightly drizzled and the roasted potatoes were delicious. A light salad with arugula was a perfect touch. The wine that was suggested went perfectly. We wound up chatting with the three gentlemen at the table next to us and in addition to having a Corsican cheesecake to share for desert, the waiter brought us Aquavit that was perfect for the weather. We were fortunate to be staying just across from this charming restaurant in Le Marais, with its beautiful stone walls. We walked in without a reservation but were cordially accommodated. The restaurant looked very quaint, so we decided to try it. Another French couple also thought they would give it a try at the same time. There were 4 tables open and no line. The manager seated the first couple and then told me I needed to speak to him in French. I did and when he realized I was American he smiled and said there were no more tables available. I said thanks and good by. So if you don't have a problem with giving your hard earned money to an establishment like this, give it a try. Otherwise, we went to many great restaurants in Paris who welcome everyone. So my recommendation would be try a different restaurant. read more

Small cosy place. No space for us on the first night, but offered a reservation for the next day. Very nice atmosphere, friendly and unpretentious service. Food was just amazing in every aspect. We could taste the freshness and quality of the ingredients. Simple French and Corsican dishes done perfectly. Very nice wine for a reasonable price (for the area and the quality we got). Minor criticism: the bread that came with my Patete was really hard and what is it with the massive size of desserts in Paris? Couldn't finish one portion with 2 people. This is a charming Italian restaurant in the Marais. We went twice this week. We sat inside one time and outside one time. The service is friendly and attentive. We had the pork chop and the filet of beef. The pork chop is huge and cooked perfectly. It was probably the most flavorful chop I have had. The beef was tender and delicious as well. Burgers varied in size, comparing the tables around us, but most seemed exceptionally large. The veal chop was cooked a little longer than perfection, but was good. Excellent, fairly priced Corsican food. Most of the menu is translated in English and the waiters are fluent and helpful to those not familiar to Corsican food. At our waiters recommendation, we had a Corsican charcuterie platter and burracha with salad and tapenade to start. Fabulous. Both were some of the best we have had ever. For dinner we had the excellent lamb, the delicious veal pasta, which comes in a flavorful broth, and a huge and flavorful pork chop with mashed potatoes. We also had the sirloin, but liked the potatoes with mushrooms more than the sirloin it came with. For dessert we again followed our waiter and ordered two traditional Corsican desserts. One was a cake with melted chocolate in the middle, the other some kind of cake with a little lemon sauce and a small glass of very potent lemonchello type alcohol. Fair warning--they are not your typical French pastries, are not too sweet, and if you expect that you will be disappointed and should order something else. We loved them and our kids ate every last bite (my husband and I reserved the lemonchello for ourselves! read more

My husband and I tried this place on our second to last night in Paris. It is on a side street in the tony area of Le Marais. It's attractive with ample seating inside and out (for a French restaurant). I started with the chestnut soup which was delicious. My husband had the cheese stuffed sardines, which he also liked. For dinner I had another starter; the couscous with Corsican sausage. It was so yummy, great flavors, and quite different from the usual fare at many restaurants here (which I also love, btw). We ordered red Corsican wine by the glass and were sorry we didn't get a bottle. It was full bodied and rich. Service was good and humorous. Three young, amiable Corsicans treated us well! Had a wonderful meal here. Nice ambiance, cool looking place. I had a sardine rillette and gigette d'agneau, both prepared very nicely indeed.
