Yet another poor customer service experience. The usual gal! I've been lucky and not running into her and the other staff is amazing kind. She, again, is rude and condescending! Funny, what she told me as far as packages "the only packages" was another blatant lie as I called another shop and got the real deal. So, my money went there. Why is she so disrespectful! This is the first review I've ever written. Some of the WORST customer service I have ever witnessed. Was told that I could spray tan as long as I arrived by 4:45 PM, arrived at 4:43 with the door closed and then rang the door bell. Someone shook their head as in we are closed and then they finally came over. She said cutoff for spray was at 4:30, I explained o was told by an employee on the phone that it was 4:45. She said 4:45 was the cutoff for UV tanning not spray. I told her how I was misinformed, but understood. Asked to do UV instead due to the mixup and was told "it's too late" since the back and forth took until 4:47. Truly disappointing. Won't EVER be returning. I used to come more frequently, but was underwhelmed by the customer service. Decided to give it another chance. I checked online to see what time they opened this morning, and saw it said 9 AM. Upon arrival at 9, I noticed the door is locked and nobody is inside. I check the times listed on the door - OPEN 9 AM. No problem, I assumed the receptionist was just running a little behind. I'd wait for a bit. It was nearly 9:30 AM when I finally called it quits and left. LA Tans in general have terrible service because they're such a large chain they don't really care about customer retention. If they were planning on opening a little late, even a sign on the door would've been a welcome time saver for my morning. read more

I've never had a problem at this location until recently with a young girl who says she's the manager. Her behavior, face and attitude are beyond rude and dismissive. I'm shocked that the owner has someone with this type of disposition at the front. The first time I came in to tan was at 835pm and she wouldn't allow me to spray tan. 3 weeks later I come in to use my package and she informs me that my tans have expired. I purchase 3 more tans at that point while she's still completely rude. My next visit I come in and ask for the color spray NOT CLEAR and she gives me the clear. I didn't bother telling her bc she looks at you with a face that says F off. Just thought the owner should be aware. Salon is great, clean and updated. They need better help. read more

So I've been bed tanning for about 6 years now, but I've never been to a tanning salon since my local gym provides tanning beds. I'm leaving for vacation this weekend and am pressed for time, so this was the closest location to our new apartment. I was a bit skeptical seeing as I've only tanned at one place my whole life, but the girl at the front desk was super helpful and informative. I also found out she was from my hometown! She definitely educated me on the different levels and services, which I was honestly really oblivious to. I did a Level III bed tan for 12 minutes, and she was transparent on the factual pros and cons. Regardless, I think it definitely did the job and was pretty seamless for a newbie. I got to the complexion I wanted for the first round, and surprisingly didn't burn at all. I think this is my new regular spot all because of the service! read more

If I had the choice I would never go to this LA Tan. The only thing I like about this salon is the convenient location. Every time I've been there the employees seem annoyed that they have to help me. The rooms are small and there are never any doors with actual door hangers on the backs of the doors that work; all you have is a little chair to set your belongings on, which is really inconvenient when it's winter time. My most recent experience there a little over a week ago I came in and I was told that I had a "late fee" on my account. I explained to the blonde girl that my debit card was stolen and I received a new one, which I took to the LA Tan on Madison to get updated and it wasn't updated properly. She said to me rudely that she didn't do it and it wasn't her problem, and said that she wasn't going to argue with me about getting the fee removed. Long story short, she wouldn't even contact the manager to get the late fee removed so I just paid it because I didn't want to deal with the rude employee. I went to my regular LA Tan on Madison and they reimbursed me and apologized. I have never had a hard time at any other LA Tan besides this one. I will not be going to this LA Tan again. I came here on a Tuesday - no later than 8:30 pm. I did call ahead to make sure it would be fine and the person I spoke to assured me. Anyways I get there and a man in standing right outside. I walk in, smile and say hello and immediately the woman at the front desk (Kat) just gives me the dirtiest look and didn't say anything back, it made me feel really bad. The (white) woman in front of me thanks and says goodbye to Kat with a smile. Kat who is also white smiles back, extremely friendly to her. Then when I come up, her smile completely dissolves. And at this point I'm just like whatever I just want to get this tan done. I ask for a level 3 stand up, and she says they're all broken. So I ask for a level 3 lay down, and she says they're all broken. So I ask well what isn't broken? And she doesn't answer me. So I ask well what's the closest level to 3? and she says I don't know. So I just ask for a level 4 stand up. She didn't ask me if I had eyewear, which I know they're supposed to but whatever. I asked for the eye stickers. During this whole transaction she is extremely rude, and it's just making me feel very uncomfortable. She tells me I can go without telling me the room number, so I have to ask her, and she very rudely tells me the room number. I go to the room, get ready, and get in. She gave me 4 MINUTES in the tanning bed. I'm pretty sure 4 minutes isn't what the time limit should've been. After the four minutes, as soon as I get out of the tanning bed she turns the light off in the room I was in. I checked the time and it wasn't even 8:45 yet! I had to get dressed in the dark. As soon as I had my underwear on, I cracked the door so I could see the rest of my clothes and Kat and I literally make eye contact. She sees me dressing up in the dark and does nothing, says nothing. All the other lights were on, except mine. I leave, and wait for my ride outside, and I see Kat leaving with the man that was standing outside. Her boyfriend was waiting for her outside. That's why she rushed me, and made me dress in the dark. And I'm just going to go ahead and say it, I feel like the fact that I'm not white led her to treat me the way she did. The time she gave me in the bed COULD'VE been an accident but I highly doubt it the way she treated me the entire time. But she didn't even apologize after she obviously knew she turned the lights off on me. The only time she started being nice to me was right when I left and I asked for her name. read more

This LA tan location is clean and every employee I've worked with has been very nice and helpful! There is also several free parking spots that are usually available, but if on that off chance they're all taken, there's always easy street parking right out front. Definitely recommend! read more

Love this location and the staff here is great! I'm moving from the suburbs so I had many more options while in the burbs since I had a car. The staff itself and location is amazing, the one thing that could make it better is more top level bed options! At the LA tans in the suburbs they have a bed with a Mediterranean, Caribbean, and basic option, while this locations highest level beds give me minimal color. This isn't a problem with the staff though, just a suggestion. The bed options here are definitely weaker than I'm used to, but staff is very helpful with everything!! Also mirrors in every room would be great because I have the highest membership and sometimes want to go in the lower level beds, but only the highest level beds have mirrors in the room. Overall, the only things I would do to improve this location are technical and not related to staff at all. Staff is always very kind and helpful, they answer all your questions and go above and beyond! read more

This LA Tan SUCKS along with it's very unprofessional manager. I know LA tan already blows in the city, but this location was around the corner from my place practically so I got a package there. I started off with a lower package and I wasn't getting tan at all. I then upgraded to their most expensive package paying them nearly something like $80 a month. I gotta say even the highest beds there still pretty much sucks for what they should do. I know ladies I've been doing this for awhile... So already aggravated by the quality of the beds, I had an awful experience there one day. I was in the "best bed" they have there and whoever changed the face bulbs that day really rushed through it. The fan wasn't put in correctly and neither was the bulb... At the end of my tan I was showered with speckles of glass from the bulb breaking on my face. I was startled LUCKILY not injured. There was no manager there at the time. I was very calm with the girl about it but let them know what happened and politely asked that the owner and manager to be notified and for someone to talk to me. The girls were sweet and apologetic and passed along the message to both the manager and the owner. I heard from NEITHER of them. I left voicemails on the managers cell etc. She did not even hesitate to contact me. Needless to say I wil never tan or buy ANYTHING from an LA tan location again! They're a joke the two sixteen year old girls working there handled the situation better than their own manager. What a joke. read more

I came into this location, only because I was at my then-bf's house and I needed up use up my last free session (which expired on that particular day). I also convinced him to go tanning with me so he could get the new customer special which was 1-week free tanning...so here goes. First off, the girls at this location look like trash. They wear sweats and look like total bums. Second, they're completely clueless and don't know what the hell they're doing!! They need to go through some extensive training in the tanning salon industry and also sign up for some customer service seminars. I came in here about a year & 1/2 ago...so horrible was my experience that I still remember. Ok. So I had signed up at a different location for the new customer special which was 1 week free tanning. I was given a card which stated the day I began my 1st session and the day my coupon expired. On the day of my last session, I came into this location. After waiting in line for about 20min (there was another person in front of me) the 2 girls at the front desk finally asked for my info. I gave them my coupon and my ID. They then tried to tell me (with an attitude) that I couldn't use that coupon because it wasn't valid anymore. I pointed out the date and said that I was told at the location I signed up that I could tan until "today." Then they both talked in confusion and seemed really stressed out because a longer line kept forming. I think maybe they were both new or something. Finally, after what seemed an eternity, the girl put me through the computer and told me what room I would be all set in. My then-bf asked for the new customer special (1-week free tanning) and they told him they didn't have that. Which is a total lie because I had just gotten it at another location just 1 week ago! LA Tan is a corporation so I'm sure they all have the same rules and promotions going on... Well...idk what the hell happened here. You be the judge. read more

The girls behind the desk are friendly and sweet, so this review is not to reflect them. There is a lot of undisclosed pricing that LA TAN seems to leave out.. and a lot. I received an add In the mail a couple months ago for 4 tans for $4. What a great deal.. NOWHERE ON THE FLYER did it say anything about it being ONLY FOR NEW CLIENTS. Ticks me off when companies do this shit.. lousy management to be luring you - waste of my time to go there and then be told that.. uncomfortable for everyone because I get upset, and the poor girl behind the computer is like, 'I know.. the add doesn't say that, I'm sorry." Making it just as aggravating for her. Fast forward a couple months to now.. its Thursday and I wanted to take advantage of the cocktail tan deal.. use any lay down bed and combine it with a spray tan. Website says its 20.00 so I call to find out if its for any level bed, and I'm told, any level bed, yes, however, the actual cost is $25-27.00 and not 20.00 because they now have the Versa Tan and its more expensive than their former 'Mystic' Tan machine. Umm... hey, guess what!? MOST places are now using VersaSpay Tan.. welcome to 2013.. Why are they acting like its something so special that they have and is so much more expensive.. sure, it may be, I guess the solution is more expensive to them, than their former Mystic Tan 's machine solution was.. Fine. But you want me to pay an additional $7.00 because if that?? AND, still leave the $20 price special on your website?! NOT COOL, LA TAN.. Save your $$.. go to Xsport (8th and State) where you can get unlimited VERSA SPRAY TANS plus level 1 bed tanning, UNLIMITED per month, for 40.00/month... (full disclosure, unlike LA TAN, I'm going to tell you exactly how much the price is, which is 44.99/month with taxes). Honestly, most LA tans are quite alike in their makeup and service offers, varying only slightly according to what services they provide. The reason to go to this LA tan is two fold: The girls there are super nice, and they dont bullshit you if they dont know the answer to something, they call their manager and have it properly accomplished. Additionally, they are very willing and glad to consult with you on your tanning needs while being charming and affable. The second reason is that they keep the salon clean, and cleaned properly. I almost gagged to death the last time I went to the LA tan in Morton Grove, because there was hair, tanning lotion, and general filth everywhere, meanwhile the tweens behind the counter were staring into their reflections in the mirror, not unlike parakeets. I actually just left rather than tanning because i was filled with horror and disgust. (and i will totally write a review about it soon, it was moronic) I went running back to the Wabash location, grateful for attitudeless customer service and fabulous advice, as well as a consistently clean, tightly run ship. I've noticed there hasn't been a RECENT review of this place so I'm going to change that and direct this to those naysayers below me. I like luxury tanning salons the one I used to go to (Island Tan) back in NY was super expensive but I could never do Tanning Bed, I will pay decent money for a good experience. And LA Tan has been a very good experience so far! I dance down the street daily at the Columbia College Dance Center so this location is perfect for my daily routine. When I walked into the salon the girl working there was extremely helpful and obliging. She answered all of my silly questions about the new lotions they had, she even offered new information I did not know about the laydown beds versus the stand ups. The atmosphere was clean, put together and super relaxed. I've only gone twice to this location so far, each time the same girl employee was there and we have always had a pleasant conversation. I look forward to my tanning because it's my own moment of pure relaxation where no one can bother me. This place is very clean, never a long wait, and they have extremely friendly service. I know from a friend that this particular LA Tan has recently gone under new management within the last few months, therefore the service and employees are 10x better and more prepared and professional. read more

I have been tanning since the early 90's so I have seen alot of changes in this industry. I frequented the L A Tann on Wabash for the first time and couldn't be more impressed. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable i wish i got the girls name who registered me....the spa was SO clean. There are a lot of tanning spas to choose from however I will never go anywhere else. However not all LA Tann's have this amazing staff......these girls on 1300 Wabash are awesome....thank you...Linda; ) read more
