This was my first time trying cryotherapy and I can promise it will not be my last!!! It was an amazing experience and can already feel how much it has helped my body in one session!!! I am a basketball player and with the tan and cryotherapy right after.. Not only do I feel like a new man but I look like one too!!! the staff is probably the nicest staff I have ever been around in a tanning salon!! Beds are awful. I went twice in a level 4 and 5 and literally did not get a shade darker or bronzer. The beds are super old and barely functioning (knobs missing, bulbs missing, etc). I even asked my boyfriend to go in a level 3 to see if he got tan. Nothing. Came out whiter. The place seems clean and the staff are really nice so definitely a bummer that the beds are the worst. read more

Got a spray tan yesterday and did medium clear. I have a very strong feeling that the diffuser / sprayer was broken. It sprayed a very strong line of spray tan on my body. Nothing was diffused or equal. Now I have a straight line of tan on my back, nothing on my legs, stripes on my feet, and very patchy hands. Overall I am embarrassed to go outside and have been trying to remove my spray tan since last night. Such a horrible experience, staff should check the devices regularly. This is unacceptable! I paid $39 for this, and now I have to go and buy spray tan remover for an additional $40 in order to be able to go outside! read more

Tonight there was a mad dash of chicagoans trying to fake a glow for the beginning of tank top season via this store's Versa Spa machine. Alexis was the sole employee working tonight and she is running. The dang. Show. Every client was checked in, given estimates wait times with a smile and apology on the delay. She was selling memberships and promotions like a champ. In between she was answering phones, cleaning beds and sweeping up. Give this girl a raise! read more

This was honestly the worst experience. It was my first time spray tanning, I asked the girl how to do it, she told me to look at the screen and figure it out. They ran out off hair nets and gave us trash bags to put on our heads. My friends machine didn't work, the girl walked in the room while my friend was naked and banged on the machine and it started unexpectedly. She ended up missing a part of her tan. There were no towels in the room and the ground was nasty and wet. She didn't tell me I should use barrier cream, my friend told me after. Not. Happy. read more

This is the worst place on earth. I should have known better than to come here given the horrible yelp reviews it had. It is dirty and they close early and give attitude. I walked in at 9:45 and they close at 10 and Alyssa told me the machines are down and they have the right to close them at 9:30 and there was nothing she could do. That even though they are open until 10 she will not take any more clients. I had even called at 9:35 to ask what spray tan machines they had, and at that time she could have said that they are already closed for the evening. I begged that this is the only time I can tan before I take a longtrip. She just blinked at me and said that again the machines are already down. And that I could come tomorrow. This is one of the closest L.A. Tans, so trust me, I want to love this location. I live closer to the Halsted location but they don't have the bed I normally use, level one stand up. This location has everything I need--the right beds, never really a wait and decent parking for sorta downtown. The only thing is the snotty attitude. I don't think I'll go back. The guy that worked there cleaned out a room and did not tell me what number, I go in, get undressed and lotion up and the machine doesn't turn on. Okay, I'm in the wrong room. I put on my clothes and ask him, if I was in the right room, he just rolled his eyes and told me, "uh, twelve." Okay dude, you should have told me that before. Not to mention, 8 of his blonde friends standing annoyed that I disturbed their conversation. Then he rolled his eyes as I left-- no goodbye. GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE IS RARE NOWADAYS. TIP: DON'T ROLL YOUR EYES AT CUSTOMERS AND DON'T ACT LIKE I'M BOTHERING YOU BY ASKING A QUESTION. I've been a customer for over five years and I shouldn't have to feel like I can't go in. Okay, went again with the bf and found out some interesting stuff. We asked the same question and got a different answer- I cannot use the bf's minutes, despite what the worker did last time. I also found out that he was for sure supposed to have gotten some info from me. More importantly, I learned he was fired, most likely for incompetence. They also fired a girl whom I never met, but based on the way the employee made it sound the other day, she was also incompetent (I mention her because said employee thought it was her who let me tan on the bf's minutes). So it seems they've at least cleaned up on their staff somewhat, which is good. I asked if I could accompany my boyfriend into his tanning room to put lotion on his back since he can't reach, and the guy told me that I could do whatever I wanted behind closed doors. If that's their policy, I don't know if I want to go back because, well, eww. If *I* can do whatever I want there behind closed doors, than so can everyone else. No thanks. It was nice to know that the level 1 beds are more inviting than the level 3's, but I still won't be going back-now more because of the eww factor and the $12.95 for 10 minutes of tanning. read more

Really nice girl at the counter that helped me get THE perfect tan! Not only am I a bronzed goddess, but it was really inexpensive. Wow. I had a tiny wait for the spray tan, and you have to put your clothes back on if you want to go from bed tanning to spray tanning, but this is one of the best tans I've ever gotten. After reading all the so-so reviews on Yelp, I was a bit wary of this place, but they were offering a $4 for 4 tans deal online so I figured, what the heck! It was a cold, snowy Saturday when I trekked the two blocks from my house to the salon. I wasn't expecting much, but boy was I pleasantly surprised! I was greeted by Cathy and the salon's owner (name forgotten! sorry!) and as a new client, I was asked to fill out the requisite release forms that come along with indoor tanning. I chatted with Cathy and the owner for a bit while Cathy walked me through the different beds, the monthly plans and other payment options, etc. Having worked at a number of tanning salons in my younger years, I know all the questions to ask - how often do you change bulbs? How to you clean the beds? Explain how the packages work, billing, etc? Cathy was super knowledgeable and their policies are exactly what they should be for a tanning salon. They carry a good selection of lotions, are reasonably priced, and ask to see your eye protection before allowing you to tan - right on! Cathy got me setup in bed number 2, a level three bed that had recently had its bulbs changed. She explained how to use the bed (even though I already knew) and asked me if I had any questions. Since I'm pretty pale right now, my 7 minutes in the 15 minute bed was plenty and I now have the beginnings of a nice tan. Yay! We chatted a little on my way out and I asked her some more questions - all of which she answered with just the information I was looking for! Prices here are amazing - the most expensive unlimited plan is only $70 per month. Cheap! That's for the most hardcore tanners - for me I'm looking at $30 per month to keep up a nice glow. They also offer a whole bunch of tanning specials, such as $10 spray tans on Mondays and $5 tans on Tuesdays! Also, if you sign up on their website for their "E Club," you get email only specials such as free minutes, extra discounts on lotions, etc. Overall, I'm so thrilled that this salon is a quick walk from my place. I'm reserving the fifth star until I've interacted with more employees, but so far, so awesome! Yay! read more

Worst tanning experience ever. I've tried to give them multiple chances but I always leave there upset I went in the first place. First, the front desk is assumptive, uninformed and rude. I have had them laugh at me, be totally unprepared to help me and actually turn me away. I was provided no paperwork or information upon purchasing my package leaving me asking a million questions when I get there each time to tan. Further, there is no parking in the area. I drive around forever before finally deciding I'll risk it and throw on my flashers again. This wouldn't be so bad if I could quickly get in and out of LA Tan but I can't-it's always a tedious, unpleasant experience. Finally, & easily my worst experience there, was when I was told I couldn't tan. I had already PAID for parking on Madison and I went in only to be informed it hadn't been 24 hours since I was there before and I couldn't tan for another hour and a half. They could care less that I wasn't aware of that policy or that I had already paid for parking. I won't be back. read more

I want to start by saying I don't normally tan so I don't know much about it. I work right around the corner and I had a wedding to go to so I thought great place to go. I walk in and was greeted with a nice big smile from the girl behind the counter and then I look around there's all cool artwork on the wall. I walk up and ask what do you think I should do to get the most color because I have a wedding to go to so the girl that helped me was so nice and she has the same name as me Melissa . So I ended up doing what is called a cocktail I tanned in a low-level bed with this awesome lotion that she told me about which is so funny because J wow makes she from the Jersey shore show it was actually really great I did that and versa spa and I did a level two and I look so great in my dress I had a really nice glow very natural thank you so much Melissa I will be going back read more

-The beds/stand-up are mostly clean. -The music can't be heard in the majority of the beds. -Hours are extremely unreliable. Don't even try going 15-30 minutes before closing, they're probably already closed. -Parking is a pain. You'll be lucky is you find parking on Waveland or Halsted, which are both metered. read more

I've been a member of LA tan for a long time. Usually the one in the south loop. But since I moved to the west loop I started going to this one. Unfortunately the front desk girls aren't too friendly, what happened to customer service? I've been in the service industry for over 10 years so I know what I'm talking about. Anyways, one of the girls had an attitude because she told me I owe them $50+....but I told her I have my bank statement and can show her that everything has gone thru like it was supposed to...every month! She said her manager wasn't there...annoyingly. I told her I understand since I do own a business so as a front desk you can only do so much...but because of the service I received, I now will not return to LA tan, not to this one at least, and I was also trying to pay them to upgrade. I don't even have the words to describe how bad the service at this place is. I would put canceling a membership with them in the same category as canceling a membership with Bally's or AOL. This La Tan location continued to take money from my account after I deactivated it. I should have listened to all the one star reviews on this place but I did not. Mainly because this is the location near my house and I thought how bad could it actually be? Well I am highly disappointed with this place. When my Husband and I first signed up to do a package we were asked to fill out paper work. After that we were asked what beds we wanted. We started to ask questions and we felt as though we were annoying the staff. If the staff was actually on top of it and informed us of everything we needed to know then we would not have to ask any questions right? We ended up going a ton of times and each time we were greeted by teenage girls who acted like it was an inconvenience when we walked through the door. There were a handful of times these teenage girls would get up and "clean" the bed when we asked for one. Why were they not cleaned ahead of time? Not sure. The beds are not the best but they do the job. The buttons are all rubbed off & get stuck easily. The speakers do not work in all the rooms & either do the fans. My biggest complaint is when we canceled our membership we continued to be charged. We did not realize this till we were speaking to a banker one day & he brought it to our attention. I immediately went to this location to speak with someone about the charges. I was told the manager was not in so I left a message with the front desk staff asking someone to contact me. A week goes by and I call into the location. I am told once again the manager will call me. A week goes by and I go back into the location. This time I ask what is the best way to reach the manager. The girl behind the desks tells me to email her & hands me a piece of paper with the managers email on it. I email the manager the next day the following: Manager916@latan.com To whom it may concern, My husband & myself were clients of yours for a few months. We recently deactivated our membership but then were charged for packages after deactivating. I recently called in to have this refunded & was told it would be but I have not seen any activity on my bank statements stating this. I was wondering if you could look into this and get back to me. Thank you I have received NO response and I sent that email JANUARY 2nd. I also went into the location AGAIN and asked if I had the right email & showed the picture of the manager (from Google Profile) to which the girl behind the desk said "Yup, thats her. She is really hard to get a hold of." Ok La Tan. The ball is in your court now. You have the opportunity to make things right. Refund my money. I like the standup beds here that come with the package. I come here because it's close to my house. Some of the workers here are very rude. "what the name?" "what bed?" "room number" is about all you will get. Seem annoyed that you are bothering them by coming in. Often on the phone with private conversations and will make you wait while they make weekend plans. Don't expect a thank you and have a nice day...especially from the blonde she is the worst. She talks shit when customers leave...little unprofessional in my opinion. read more

I haven't been to this particular location in a long time, and was mildly surprised. My last visit was on a $5 Tuesday, which was a madhouse, and the bed felt weak. This time, even though I walked in a half hour before close, the sales associate was very nice, and informed me about their lotion and holiday deals. I was upgraded into a level 3 bed for free (my package only goes to level 2), since this salon doesn't have level 2 beds. I did stand up room #12, and holy crap, she wasn't lying when she said the bulbs were new! The max time is 7 mins, but I stepped out after 6, since I was so hot! Last week, when checking in, they asked if I had gotten my watch/bracelet back. I didn't even know that I had left it behind. This is a great facility with honest employees. I've been an LA Tan customer for over 10 years. I've visited LA tans in the suburbs of Illinois, all over Chicago, and even in other states while on vacation. I don't want to be writing this review. Recently I had a payment issue that I think can be attributed to the new payment systems that LA is using where you insert your card into the machine and it tracks your monthly payment info. I lost my CC one month and had to change the card on my account-so I did. A month later I went in and was told my payment didn't go through. Not realizing I was then charged fees (twice) I paid the difference, thinking all was good. The next two months in a row the same issue was happening! I continued to pay the balance on my account not realizing that each month I'm being charged at least two fees for my card not working! (Yes my fault, but after ten years of auto payments I wasn't really watching to see how much is coming out of my account). This month I finally asked what could be happening, and then was told that not only does the girl not know why this is happening, but I'm also paying fees when I pay my balance! So I was informed I could come in and talk to the manager since I refused to pay the balance (with fees) until I got this fixed. The next time I came in I was told the manager doesn't actually work here, she just owns the store and has another full time job. 4 times now (no exaggeration) I've left my number with the girl at the counter and was told Melissa would call me and have gotten no missed calls or voicemails. Finally I was told to reach out the the manager and given a business card with a vague email address. Ive emailed Melissa numerous times asking for some assistance. After no response, I've called the store to ask who else I can talk to to get this resolved...and I'm told that I just have to wait for Melissa to reach out to me. I'm not allowed to have a phone number or talk to anyone else. My emails and calls have been as nice as possible, and I love this location in every other aspect. I just can't believe a client who is trying to pay her balance, and trying to work with people (without being mad or mean) is being blatantly and completely ignored. It's disappointing. And while I don't want to leave my beloved versa for another salon, I may have to. I have a vacation in 9 days that I would love to have a good tan for! However, I'll remain hopeful that I'll be able to come back and edit this post to say someone finally contacted me to get this resolved so that my love of LA can be restored. Update- I did finally hear from Melissa and got my account sorted out, including having the late fees returned to me. However, the experience of waiting for someone to contact me via email instead of just being able to talk to someone has been frustrating. As long as you don't have an issue that requires a manager's attention, you should have a fine experience at this location. read more

This is a classic case of "you get what you pay for." For the fact that you can get decent unlimited tanning for $20 a month, there is little to complain about. I've only had a handful of times where the place is packed, otherwise I rarely if never have to wait for a bed. Sure, the beds are outdated (especially the level II stand-up which feels like you're in a metal birdcage/small prison) BUT they work! Guess what?? If you tan a few times for 10 minutes you will leave tan! Even in the lower levels! I have a basic, inexpensive membership. I went about three times a week for two weeks and now go once a week to maintain a wonderful bronze tan. Pros: Cheap Rarely a wait Beds get you tan Never had a problem with dirty beds/rooms Cons: Beds are old (but work just fine!!) Staff isn't the most customer friendly but whatever, most are college kids anyhow so my expectations aren't that high... If you don't want to shell out $50/month for tanning and are just looking for a basic place, this LA Tan is the way to go read more

I visited quite a few L.A. Tans but this one has to be my favorite. I have found it difficulty managing what level of tanning I need but Genesis was able to guide me through it all. Super helpful to have someone with that level of expertise and customer service. I walked out more than satisfied. I am definitely returning and if you decide you need a tan do your self a favor and look for a girl named Genesis. She is the best at what she does.
