I was initially hesitant to book here because of the mixed reviews I saw across different platforms. However, my husband, who is a retired and fully disabled veteran, was referred to this office by the VA for local dental services. They are one of the very few, if not the only, providers in the area who coordinate with the VA, allowing veterans to receive care without having to drive to Austin. After his positive experience, I decided to schedule an appointment as well. We both saw Dr. Matthew O'Neil, and I almost hesitate to mention his name only because he was so phenomenal and don't want to share. He was kind, professional, and had an excellent bedside manner. He asked thoughtful questions and provided clear, thorough answers to everything I asked. A staff member, either the office manager or benefits coordinator, also met with me and walked me through a detailed cost breakdown on an iPad. She explained what my insurance would cover, what my out-of-pocket costs would be, and gave me the flexibility to prioritize or decline any services. She was incredibly kind and made the entire process feel comfortable and pressure-free. In the end, I chose to move forward with all recommended treatments because the pricing was comparable to other providers in the area, and I felt very confident in Dr. O'Neil's expertise. Today, I had two fillings, three crowns, and a deep cleaning completed under IV sedation, as I have a serious fear of dental procedures a local anesthetic is hit or miss for me. My appointment began within 5-10 minutes of arrival, and so far I've experienced little to no pain. The customer service has been outstanding. I'll be returning in two weeks to have my crowns placed, and based on my experience so far, I feel very reassured about my decision. Highly recommend! read more

T'was a coupon that was my undoing. So...I had been meaning to get to the dentist for some time time for general dental work. I was trying to remain hopeful that I'd find one with excellent bedside manner, you know, like the ones of yonder year. At any rate, I made an appointment with kind receptionist but unfortunately had to cancel due to another emergency doctor's appointment. Arriving at the rescheduled appointment, I was "greeted" by a woman who stated that she was the office manager. [Full disclosure: for having gone to the wrong location, I was 12 minutes late and I had not called the office to warn them because I was simultaneously on the phone with my benefits coordinator.] I arrived late, and with my 11 year-old daughter in tow, who I verified previously could remain with me during my appointment. Again, I'll be clear that I was late and had to previously reschedule; however, what followed is what shall keep me from returning. First, the office manager seemed quite put-off by my tardiness and unpleasantly surprised that my daughter was with me. She cautioned that I'd have to keep her with me during my visit, to which I agreed and said that I had previously verified this. The woman then stated that she'd need to verify with the dentist that my daughter could, in fact, remain with me. I was tempted to leave then for the sheer unwelcomed feeling that my daughter and I experienced. We were given the okay. I began filling out new patient paperwork and asked a few poignant coupon/insurance related questions as I was new to the clinic. Most unfortunately, the office manager's responses came across as extremely nice-nasty and well, by then end of it all, and while I was completing paper work, she "politely" warned that they may not finish all of my dental appointment, like the cleaning, as they had not expected me to: a. go to the wrong clinic, b. ask questions, or c. have to fill out paperwork. She then gently chided that they must respect the appointment time of the next person. All of the hubbub about my daughter's being present, the raw/nice-nasty answers and irritation with my few questions, and the overall unwelcoming atmosphere created by this staff member convinced to politely decline service. On out way out, the office manager prompted a member of her staff to "hang out out the front", which would make me feel as though I was going to be the subject of the day's office gossip hour. Yikes. I never met the dentist. I can only assume that he is unaware of his staff's countenance...(sigh). I will note that all other staff members seemed kind and professional. Perhaps short and terse responses work for some but I find such an approach to be quite soul crushing. Onward I go on the continued quest for a good dentist! There's no price transparency prior to services being performed. I called my dental insurance prior to my visit so I understood what services I was eligible for and being a new patient, anticipated they would want to perform x-rays, which I knew wouldn't be covered. They didn't check my insurance coverage prior to the appointment and I've never gone to a dentistry that doesn't speak with you about pricing of services or provide some type of quote prior to doing the work, so it shocked me that they did any x-rays without at least confirming with me if I wanted them. Administration could have asked me to transfer my records considering my last appointment elsewhere was a year prior, which would have included imaging. The x-ray technician was great but the dentist I saw wasn't. She was really heavy handed and there were several times I teared up. I usually love the dentist and it's never hurt to get work done. I had a different person do the actual cleaning, so 3 people in total. Usually I only see the dental hygienist and the dentist so that was new to me. All of this could be understandable but what put the nail in the coffin for me was check-out. The receptionist wanted to schedule me for 11 fillings, a crown and a custom made mouth guard. The only thing discussed with me by the dentist was the crown, which was deemed not necessary at the moment and a mouth guard, which I said I would purchase 3rd party. When I raised concern about this, the receptionist said it was in my treatment plan. I told her I wasn't informed of this and she looked surprised, like there was no communication between back office to front office staff. When I politely said I didn't want to schedule them at the moment and instead requested a recall for my 6 month check-up, I had to go back and forth with her for about 5+ minutes about scheduling appointments. I felt like I was being held hostage at check-out. I said no, which is a complete sentence. Fast forward 5 days later and I receive a text that the appointment was scheduled anyways! I called to complain and cancel (and will be checking up in 6 months to make sure so I don't get charged because they keep your card on file). The only saving grace to this entire experience was the girl I made the complaint to, Andrea. Bless her she was the most professional one out of the entire staff I met. She tried to salvage the situation as best she could and offered receipts for the services performed, the treatment plan and my payments. She gave a recommendation for a different dentist within the practice and I considered staying with them just because of her, but ultimately I will not be returning because there's no guarantee the rest of the staff will be like her. I just feel like there's a lot of room for improvement. Dental insurance only goes so far and with the current economy, people have less money than ever. Quite a disappointing experience with this dental clinic. I am not upset with the dentist, Dr. Thouvenot is great, but I am with the front desk. They cancelled an appointment scheduled since weeks 3 days before. I used PTO to be off that day so I could watch our child while my husband goes to the dentist. It was too late for me to change at work. Then, they asked my husband to come 20min early, but then made him wait for 1h in between his fillings and his cleaning, he had to get a second round of anesthesia because of that. In order to avoid to have him wait again during his second appointment, they changed the time but forgot to let us know, so my husband missed out on work to drive to the clinic to find out his new appointment was 2h later. We, again, waisted precious time with our jobs. On top of that, the morning of that second appointment, they called him and asked if they could change the appointment time, again. I was hoping they would offer us a compensation for these hiccups but they didn't so I asked for a discount or we would go somewhere else, they refused to give us the discount. Upon visiting, I found the staff really pleasant and had a decent experience and thought they were wonderful. Unfortunately, neither I nor anyone in my family will ever visit again. They performed an X-ray on me that is not normal, and not something anyone gets at a yearly checkup or exam - decades of dental visits and I had never had this done before. They knew insurance wouldn't cover this and didn't discuss it with me before performing it, and took it without discussing it with me whatsoever. A total violation of trust. When I asked questions about this and brought it up, I was met with absolute rudeness and told to find another provider. They also were intending to charge nearly double for another procedure - a procedure I had been quoted for by other dentists at a consistent price and this office is charging nearly double what other dentists in the state are. Which is unacceptable, and when I brought that up I was talked down to. I am not happy to give bad reviews but if I am being taken advantage of then I'm sure there are others too. It is very disturbing and disheartening that a business would be cruel and manipulative to a customer for raising very fair questions and trying to get help and answers. I would suggest finding a practice that is more rooted in treating clients with respect and dignity and practices better ethics than this. read more

I went there a couple of times for a long overdue checkup and to put a crown in. The procedures didn't take too long and didn't hurt much after. The staff was also nice and friendly. Although I had an issue with payments that weren't supposed to be taken from my account I went in person and talked to the manager, Dan, who was very understandable and helpful. I recently lost a filling in a front tooth (horrors!) and had to have it refilled. The original work had been done by a different dentist. As usual, Dr Chris was gentle and fast but the final result was a thousand times better than the original. I've been going around showing it off to people so they can see the difference between his work and the other. Of course, I've been passing out his cards because the people getting the "tooth show" are so impressed. Haley was comforting and reassuring as she always is. I have always been treated graciously and warmly by all of the team members. All of this is a big deal for me because of my (embarrassing) dental phobia. I also really appreciate the call I get afterwards to make sure I'm ok. This practice is superb all round. I love them like family. read more

I'm going to post this as a warning. If you like living in pain, for months at a time, this is the Dentist for you. A few months ago, I had a cracked tooth, that had to be extracted. A couple of weeks after the extraction, I was in pain. I thought that food was getting into the hole. Dr. Chris looked at it, and told me that I needed to use a special tool, to flush it out periodically. I also told him that I could feel something sharp in the area, with my tongue. A few days later, I was still in pain, so I went back.He used some tweezers, to pull out a small sliver of bone out. There was still some in there after, but he told me that he didn't want to cut my gum open to get it out, and that the human body has a away of pushing things like that out. 2 weeks later, it got infected, so I cleared it up with antibiotics. I continued to live with the pain, until the 1 inch long bone shard finally came out. Meanwhile, I started chewing with the other side of my mouth. That worked a filling loose, in another tooth. Dr.Chris ended up putting a crown, on that one. He just crowned the tooth, without doing a root canal. Two months later, and 2 infections later, I went to a different Dentist's office in excruciating pain. They ended up doing an emergency root canal, and put me on a strong regiment of antibiotics, to fight the infection. I am finally out of pain, but the last procedure cost me $800 out of pocket, because all but $300 of my emergency benefits were used up, for the year. read more

**OUTSTANDING OFFICE** I usually do not write reviews, but I have been going to this office for almost 2 years and have had nothing but great experiences. Dr. Chris is exceedingly intelligent and the best at what he does. He is very laid back (which helps immensely with any dental related anxiety one might have) while at the same time very thorough and takes a lot of pride in his work. I've had the pleasure of seeing both hygienists (Shavar and Jannet), and they have wonderful personalities and chair-side manors. Both of them go the extra mile with explaining how important is it to maintain good dental hygiene, while giving good tips and instructions for home care. All of my cleanings have yielded amazing and pain free results!! As for the front office - Ruby (the office manager) is an insurance GURU and is extremely knowledgeable on how to run a dental office properly and efficiently. One policy they have (that I love) is that they verify your insurance coverage BEFORE you get anything done, which is helpful because you always know what you will pay beforehand instead of getting stuck with a bill you cant afford during checkout. Ruby and Jannet are also fluent in Spanish and English, which is a major asset to many families here in the Kyle area. Haley is wonderful to talk to on the phone and greets you with a smile when you walk in. She is always so polite and eager to help in any way she can. The icing on the cake is their hours - late evening AND Saturdays?! SO convenient, you wont find that at any other privately owned dental office. After I had confirmed my appointment the next day I had called them to learn about their office, one day later they canceled my Saturday appointment because we were playing phone tag just to give me information about my copay. Then, as told them that I'd never asked to cancel and that I was going to look for another dentist, she said "well, good luck finding a Saturday appointment." Unprofessional and sarcastically rude. My 6 yr old son and I were looking for new dental home after a recent move to Buda. I came across their mailer in the Val-Pak bunch and liked that they have night and weekend hours. After looking around their website, I contacted the office. Scheduling our appointments was easy and Ruby was so professional and polite. I was nervous for my son's appointment as we left a pediatric dentist that he absolutely loved, but the RDA that handled our cleanings was great! Dani made both of us feel very comfortable in the chair and she took her time with my son to make sure he was at ease with each step. Dr. Chris was very pleasant and professional as well. He came in, checked a few areas on us both, and explained his recommendations and why he was making those recommendations (most dentists leave out the 'why' and only tell you the 'what'). The front desk wrote up our treatment plans which Dani then reviewed. There was absolutely no sales pitch or pressure to commit to anything. Ruby had me fill out a reminder card for our next appointment and then thanked us for coming in. I was happy with the appointment, but more importantly my son was happy. He said that he liked the office and that Dani was really nice. For me, a dental office that can get rave reviews from a child is one worth going to. read more

I called before setting up an appointment to verify my insurance was in-network. The girl took my information to call verify with my insurance and I received a call later that afternoon to let me know it was so a cleaning appointment was scheduled. After my cleaning, I was given a cavity treatment plan that didn't add up to what I should be paying. When I called my insurance, I was told the dentist is not in-network. Seems to me this dentist wants to get you in the door to get more money out of your pocket. I will never return to this dishonest office. They've cost me time and money out of my pocket for another dentist office visit. read more

Every single time that I have an emergency all I have to do is call and they will find an available spot for me on the same day. Never once felt nervous or anxious to be at the dentist. They have become part of our family in Kyle. Procedures are discussed with you in advance and even the cost, here is never a surprise when it comes to price, they keep you well informed. Love the fact that Dr. Chris works wonders. My teeth are always a source of complements and I owe that to Dr. Chris and his staff that keeps my pearly whites beautiful. He is my dentist for life! I must admit that I am an adult baby about going to the dentist- as a child I never was. Christy was AMAZING with explaining everything to me- down to the who, what, when, where even why! She even discussed all her findings of the xrays to me and I was able to see for myself with the awesome computer screen that is placed in front of you. Everyone from the front office to the back office was completely professional and super sweet! The whole office is clean and welcoming. After my inital visit, sweet Ruby scheduled all of my next appts, discussed pricing with me and made sure I was comfortable with everything before they sent me on my way. My next visit was for fillings- a week later- and a few days after that a very kind staff member left me a voicemail "just to check on me". I thought that was a very kind gesture, considering I work in a medical office, I know you can get very busy with all of the patients of the day and for someone to take the time to call, just because, really meant a lot to me. I'm a self professed dentist phobic, candy eating, ice crunching, soda drinking, non compliant patient. So it was no surprise that I ended up with six cavities after not having been to the dentist in over 2 years. Like most people I work a 8-5 job and can rarely take time off, but Kyle Dental not only has extended office hours and are open even on certain Saturdays of the month (yeah it was so bad I had to go in for multiple visits), but the staff and Dr. Chris are gracious enough to stay after hours to get the job done! And he is damn good at his job! He is professional, but warm. I think a lot of people avoid going to the dentist for fear of being chastise for neglecting something so simple as brushing and flossing regularly. But nonetheless those things are important and Dr. Chris helped me realize that without making me feel bad about myself. He genuinely cares for his patients. Now I look forward to every visit, which the wonderful Ruby makes sure to schedule after every cleaning to avoid another cavity filled calamity. I could not recommend this place enough. read more

She cleaned half of my mouth with only a topical cream. I was very impressed with how gentle and patient she was with me. We Love Kyle Dental! The staff is extremely sweet. They make contact to confirm appointments at least twice. 1 about a week in advance and the day before. Not to mention they also send a reminder postcard about 1 month in advance as well. Super great! Never any issues and great with my children to make sure they feel comfortable. I found Kyle Dental by chance when I was looking for a place to take my 3 year old for her first dental visit. We don't have dental insurance, so of course, cost was a factor. After posting the question on facebook, several friends reccommended Kyle Dental to me. I called them and was able to use a $50 new patients coupon from their website and a $25 referral from a friend, making the total for exam and cleaning only $66. I was really nervous about how it would go. My daughter has extreme doctor anxiety and was already crying on the way to the office, begging me to not let anyone touch her teeth. I almost cancelled the appointment before it even began. I am so happy that I didn't. After waiting a short while in their waiting room, we were escorted back. The hygenist was AMAZING. He sat and talked to my daughter and took the time to explain every instrument and what he was going to to with it. He touched everything to her arm first to show it wasn't scary and wouldn't hurt. He told her that he was going to give her "princess teeth" and kept a steady stream of conversation about which Disney princess was the best (perfect for my princess-obsessed daughter). Finally, he went and got a pink stuffed kitty and set it up where she could see and told her she could take it home if she did well. We only saw the actual dentist briefly to count teeth and check for cavities (none!) since there is not much scraping needed for a 3 year old. The experience went beyond my expectations and I will most definitely be back. read more

The only pleasant part of my visit to Kyle Dental was Tiffany (dental assistant). She was very understanding and super sweet. I had 2 extractions done and had complications with one of them. When I called the office to ask if the amount of pain I was in was normal Ally was extremely demeaning and rude and insisted it was normal. When she (Ally) called back a few days later (a "courtesy call") I told her I still had a lot of pain and swelling. I went back in and the dentist dismissed my concerns without any explanation of why I was in so much pain. When I was still swollen and in pain another four days later I went BACK in. Again, my concerns were completely dismissed. I decided to see a different dentist and learned that there was a piece of bone protruding from one extraction site. I also had "dry socket". These things could've been addressed before I spent over a week in a lot of pain (unnecessarily)! Now I have to pay another dentist to fix what they should have from the beginning! I will never be a patient here again! Worst dental experience EVER!! read more
