About 2 years ago I got my brakes done on my ML 350. Last week sensor was acting up stating that there was break wear. I called Kwik Car by The lake where I had the work done. They do a full required service review with pricing and discuss it with you before they touch anything else in your car. I needed mechanic work done on my truck. They knew I was coming and had all the required parts after talking to them the day before. I was the very first car there before they opened and was first up on the rack. Their "mechanic" told me it will take 2.5 to 3 hours. I told them I needed it back by earyl afternoon so that was perfect. After 4 hours I called and the lady said it is still on the rack and hadn't seen anyone work on it for quite some time. She put the "mechanic" on the phone and claimed they wre too busy and would be several more hours. I stated that I was the first customer their that day and if they were so busy then shouldn't they want to work faster on my car to get to the customers waiting. He yelled "it will be ready when its ready and now it might not be done today." I went down to the shop about 30 min later and it was magically done, but not before hearing the lady and "mechanic" talking bad about me loudly to other customers because they did not see me in line. After all that... the part was installed incorrectly, alignment was not done, and the tires never got rotated. $700, 7 hours, and nothing was accomplished. Did they try to make it right or apologize? Of course not, they will never see another dime from me, my family, my friends, and neighbors. I used "mechanic" because, any mechanic will have at least a spot of dirt or grease somewhere on their hands or clothes. They won't wear nice jeans, shoes, polos and be spotless. read more

I went in on a Saturday, which I knew it would be busy, to get an oil change. They took my car in immediately and done within 35 minutes. They did give me some recommendations, however that is what I expect during an oil change. Perfect time to get things looked over. I do not like to wait until something breaks. I will schedule a time in the near future for those recommendations. Waiting room was clean and they have an outdoor patio which is a plus. read more

I have been a loyal customer for years. They have gone downhill as the rating chart here shows! I have always had my oil changed here and other up-keep on my car. Today the manager said it is "hard" to change my headlight and tried to tell me he would have to take the entire fender well off. They have changed my headlight 3 times before without taking it off. Then he told me my car could not pass inspection because I had a "running" light on the fender out. Clearly you do not want my business. Do not go here! I had a great experience with this business. I needed a state inspection, and they were able to do it while I waited. I was in & out of there in under 20 minutes. The waiting area was clean, air conditioned, smoke-free, and had recent magazines. There was a coffee bar, although it had already been cleaned up for the day (late afternoon). Oil change was quick and was told about other things I needed. I also got a battery, which I knew I needed. I couldn't afford the other things especially knowing that my check engine light had been coming on. I took my car back when the check engine light came on so they could look at it. Long story short it was my catalytic converter and it was going to cost a whole lot of money. Luckily I remember that I still had the Max Car Care plan, but that meant I had to take it to a place the CarMax plan approved of. I took it to said place and they called me and said yep it's the catalytic converter but it's not covered under warranty, but there is an FEDERAL EMISSIONS WARRANTY that covers catalytic converters if mileage is 80k or less. Read that again so you remember it! And google it, because it's legit! Thank god Chris Murphy's Automotive was honest and didn't try to charge me. Now I have to take it to Ford for them to fix it. Too bad Kwik Kar was not knowledgeable on this because they could save people a lot of money and possibly have repeat customers for lol changes. read more

Great service. Went in for inspection and knew my wipers would not pass. Had new blade refills in truck with me but had not installed yet. If you have a car you'd like to keep driving, don't go here. Kwik Kar charged $2000 for work I had to have completely redone by BMW dealer for another $2,000. When the original work was done by Kwik Kar, it also took far longer than I was originally told it would take. This resulted in costly car rental fees! Immediately after I got my car back, it still appeared to have a leak. I took it back and was told the leak was water and everything was fine. That was not the case. Was a happy customer until my last visit... came in for a routine oil change. While going over their recommendations for what else needed to be done, they mentioned that my car battery was low and should be replaced. I hadn't had any issues with the car prior to this but made note that I should get it replaced. Before I went back in to wait for the oil change, the guy asked me to get in my car and start it. I thought this was unusual since it was already in the shop with the hood open. Surprisingly the car did not start. The guy casually attributed it to the low battery he had told me about. While this certainly COULD happen, it seemed very sketchy to me and a little too much of a coincidence. Also why was I the one being asked to start my car and be the one to find it wouldn't turn over? I didn't feel I had a lot of choices at that point, requested to look at the battery connections, but ultimately replaced the battery to be able to drive home. I left feeling I had one pulled over on me and distrustful of the shop. Particularly, when on my way out, I overhead the tech telling another customer that their battery was low and should be replaced... read more

Howard McGinnis, owner of Kwik Kar on the Lake, congratulations, you have lost me as a 3 year loyal customer. I have had all 4 of my household vehicles serviced at Kwik Kar, spending thousands of $ annually on maintenance and repair. What has ended my relationship is the experience I recently had. I spent nearly $250 on a new battery for my son's truck. Just over 45 days later, during the ice storm's in Dallas, the battery failed. Since it was a Saturday evening, called AAA who came, tested the battery, it failed and therefore I needed to replace it, or pay for towing back to Kwik Kar. I did not have a choice but to replace the battery, did so and went back to Kwik Kar the next week with the "old" battery. They said the battery was fine (they showed me a diagnostic) and said it was my starter (they did not even raise the hood for this "diagnosis". I asked for some accommodation as the battery should not have failed to start so quickly. They said no and that it was AAA's fault. I said that AAA merely showed up late at night, charged me 40% less for a superior battery with a longer warranty than the battery sold by Kwik Kar. Daniel, the KK service tech, contactedMr. McGinnis, the owner of Kwik Kar, (he owns other franchise locations) and he indicated he would not do anything. I asked for his Mr. McGinnis' email address, Daniel gave me the wrong email address and apparently they do not value direct customer feedback nor customer loyalty. I have since located another nearby car service location where I will take my vehicles and recommend this new shop to my friends. Conclusion: You may have an OK experience here, so if you are OK being a transaction, fine. If you want a location that will take care of you as a loyal customer, don't bother. I expect the latter. I just moved to Texas and needed to get my car inspected. A neighbor recommended Kwik Kar by the Lake so I called them up and they got me in immediately. They explained how Texas rules and regulations go for car registration/inspection and I got to have some coffee and a comfortable chair during the 36 minutes it took for the inspection. If I needed an oil change or some other minor work done, I would definitely go to them again. read more

On 2 separate trips to get an oil change I was told I needed work done that I had checked elsewhere only to find out that in fact no it didn't !!! Apparently they will tell you anything to make more money off of you. I would advise anyone to get a second opinion....doubt I will go there again for my oil changes. read more

I came here for a routine oil change and maintenance on a 2015 sedan (30,000 miles). I believe these folks work on comission. Being a woman with little car knowledge (evidenced by my questions on-site), I believe they saw a target. #1 - hard sell for two types of filters. I asked for one, but they added two until I reminded them I said no (30 seconds prior, clearly). I had to say no three times! #2 - They also created a 'show' where the mechanic under my car shouted to the mechanic above-board that the "transmission was leaking." I expressed doubt, kindly, and they continued. Really, it looked like it was an act. So, two days later I take the car to the dealership maintenance shop - absolutely no concerns, no leaks and said "I have no idea what they meant." I came in for an oil change on a relatively new car and spent $100+. Yes, I should educate myself more on cars, but b/c of my experience and the schmoozing and comission-vibe I got, I did not feel comfortable. I give more stars than 1 b/c the waiting room is lovely. It's clean and air conditioned. They offer cold free water bottles. They are "quick." But know that they are looking to take advantage of any weakness they detect in you .. yes many mechanic shops may do this, but not all. Unfortunately, my experience here does not lead me to believe this is an exception. read more

I give them NO STARS! I WILL NEVER TAKE ANY OF MY CARS THERE AGAIN! I first took my car there to because my engine light had just come on. They did a diagnostic on the problem for $90 and then told me they couldn't really figure out the problem and that it would be good to do a tune up ($400). I had my car two days (barely drove it) and the engine light comes on again. So I bring it in again. This time they tell me it needs a valve adjustment ($390). Third time I hadn't even had the car a full day and engine light is on and my car is running hot. Take it in right a way and they say its the fan and that will be another $300. I said NO WAY! You will be hearing from me. I took it to another shop. I later learn that my car has hydraulic self adjusting valves and never needed that at all and while talking to Kwik Kar the first or second time, with out prompting he says that quote,"I know what your thinking but we did not do anything to your car". Sounds pretty suspicious to me! Thinking about going to small claims court or on auto talk radio with this. read more

Watch out for Tyler, he can be quite the hot head. About a week ago, I took my 96 Maxima in to have a diagnostic ran for the jackpot code (P1447). Tyler let me know that the vacuum cut valve and vacuum cut bypass valve needed to be replaced as they were the cause of the code that had been throwing the light. His quote, you may ask? $660. The parts at the Nissan dealership ended up costing me a total of $180 after of course adding on the evap control valve as well as a new charcoal canister to insure the issue would not go any further. After replacing said parts,(which took all of 15 minutes to replace, rather than the whopping $480 in labor he tried to get away with) the code was reset and after 10 miles, our pesky light returned. This morning I returned to the shop and requested, not a refund, but a completion of the service that I had paid for. Tyler entered the waiting room after the technician pulled my car in and immediately began ranting whilst shaking with hysteria. He advised me that the code had differed from the original code that he had seen, though this was the same code I've dealt with for the last 6 months. After asking about the high charge in labor for the simple repair, he exclaimed "This is where I get rude. When you go to SCHOOL you can charge people $105 an hour for labor." I continued, "You were charging me $480 for less than an hour." He then continued, "If you knew anything about running a business you would know that we are going to charge more for parts than the dealerships quote." Toward his employee he turned and shouted, "Pull that car out, I'm done with this!", while he was shaking furiously. Now unfortunately, due to his assumptions, he didn't realize he was dealing with a Market Manager for a high clientele business with a Masters in business administration. He also failed to remember the key components of running a business. Integrity, Heart, Honesty, and of course, proper customer service. This will not be a shop that I will revisit and should only be an outlet for those who have no knowledge of the automotive industry. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. read more

We have been going to Kwik Kar since they opened and Jan and Mark were great however since it was sold, it has steadily gone downhill. We recently took our car in when the check engine light came on. Repairs were several hundred dollars. A couple of days ago, the light came on again this time over $350. I can't help but wonder if the labor charge would have been almost nill if they had fixed this two weeks ago when they had the car. No one was interested in discussing retaining our loyalty by working with us. Taking the time to have a little conversation with a long term customer seems a small price to pay for retention and customer satisfaction. We will absolutely not go back again and will absolutely not recommend this location to anyone else. read more

LADIES...READ THIS!!!! I went in for a State Inspection. Having just moved to the neighborhood and having always entrusted other Kwik Kars for auto care before, I felt confident in the Inspection service. I watched as every single woman in the waiting room checked out and was upsold additional services. Being that I am female and able to change filters, bulbs, plugs, etc, I watched in horror as these women nodded and paid. When my name was called, I immediately shot down the barrage of additional services offered. Then, I was told that my car wouldn't pass inspection without new wiper blades. I explained that they cleared just fine. Not good enough, the ends were weak. I saw the RainX blades and immediately told him that they would skip, that I've tried them all and that they wouldn't work. I asked if this was my only option and I was told again, that in order to pass inspection, I would have to get new ones. Having never failed inspection before, I told them to put the cheapest ones on, knowing that I'd have to go down the street and put different ones on. When I got to the register to pay, I noticed that the invoices stated that I got RainX brand put on. I asked for the manager and Daniel came to the front. I told him exactly what happened and asked him what I was supposed to do when/if these didn't work. He said that I could've failed and returned and passed. I asked why I wasn't told this when I asked if this was my only option and the tech said that he didn't think about it. I took Daniel's name down on my reciept and wrote that he'd take care of it if it didn't work. Well, shockingly, they didn't work. I called today and spoke with two techs before reaching Daniel. I rehashed the story and he insisted that I should have bought the more expensive blades and not the cheap RainX ones. I asked what he was prepared to do to fix this and he started to get really angry. Finally, he said that the only solution was for me to come in, switch them out to the more expensive ones and never bring my car back for service again then ACTUALLY HUNG UP ON ME. REALLY? You promise, Daniel? I will be contacting the owners Joe Redmond and Howard McGinnis and provide copies of my reciept and documentation of the way I was treated by Daniel. I am not looking for anything free. In fact, having stated BEFORE services were rendered that the parts wouldn't work and those parts were used anyways is just disrespectful. As if I don't know my own car. Seriously, I've been changing the blades on this thing since 2006. read more

Rip off! Was in the neighborhood and decided to get my car inspected here. Big mistake! They told me I needed new windshield wipers and gave me a two options to choose from. I asked what's the difference and was told the more expensive ones will last a 2-3 yrs longer. I opted for the less expensive ones. Don't need high priced blades, but I do expect them to fit my car. They finished my car and I left. Later the same day, I turned on the wipers and noticed it left a sizable area of the windshield untouched by the wipers. So, of course I returned to them so that they could correct it. They then tell me that my car REQUIRES the more expensive blades to work properly. At this point I was feeling shammed, so I decided to take my car to Honda to get the correct blades. I was not willing to give them another dime. However, I did expect to be able to get my money back for the ill-fitting blades. But the owner was rude and decided him keeping my $33 for blades that are completely useless to me was more important than making the situation right. read more
