Just as it's named you want to definitely get a Kwick Check into this grocery/market store. This is probably my go-to spots for hot sizzling bowl of bibimbap around the area. I can hop on a bike ride down Madison Ave and stop by for a quick sandwich to go or sit in the market area for some Korean food. They have a wide range of food from Greek inspired (falafels, pita, gyros, wraps) to Korean inspired dishes (kimchi fried rice, mandus, spicy ramen, bibimbamp). You can also get a club sandwich, muffaletta, or switch it up for the kimchi burger. Sorry, no pizza in this market. They have a grab and go cooler that contains all sorts of baked goods like baklava, cheese cake, kimchi, pasta salad, greek salad. And if you can't make your mind up, there's Korean and American snacks and drinks/beer of your liking. I love market stores with eateries. Every time I come in, I'd see an asian auntie watching her iPad while wrapping mandus and preparing a whole tray full of them. That's when I know they're fresh! One my favorite "looks like it probably sucks but it's actually so good" places in Memphis. Whenever i tell people I had Bibimbap for lunch and they don't know what that is it gives me such a sense of superiority because I'm way more cultured and just all around better than them. Their spicy muffuletta was also great but it sent me to the bathroom for an extended period of time multiple times. So order based on the health of your own bowels. Also such a fun selection of drinks and chips. Makes me feel like a kid in a candy store with all the bright colors. I wish I was a kid with no responsibilities again. Life is too stressful. LOVE Kwik Chek. We've been coming here for ages, and the quality of the food has never wavered. We really enjoy their bi bim bop. It's a dish my husband introduced me to when we first started dating (32 years ago!), so we have some pretty high standards when it comes to Korean food in general, and bib im bop in particular. This place has never failed us. Eat! Enjoy! PS Their baklava is terrific, but as a hint, the Mediterranean Grocery on Park (just a little bit east from the Walgreens at Park and Highland) will sell you a large (24 pieces, maybe?)- and *very* tasty - tray for about the twice the cost of two pieces here. The BBB seemed to be the thing to get. Of the choices of beef, chicken, or tofu, I chose beef. There were only three or four small pieces of meat in there. The amount of meat would not combine to make a meatball. There was not much food at all for the price. It was good and it was hot, but I could have eaten two of these. I barely weigh 150. Unless we're talking about sushi or lobster, ten bucks better fill me up. I'm trying to figure out what to finish my lunch with. I felt ripped off. It is a little hole in the wall with tons and tons of sandwiches as well as Greek and Korean food. I had the Turk and my lunch partner had the Bi Bim Bop (which of course I tried). The quality of this place has plummeted tremendously over the past month or so. Their sub sandwiches are okay now that I've tried them, but my heart will always be with the BBB. Unfortunately, they stopped cooking it for as long, stopped using as many and as fresh-seeming ingredients, and the people who come in to eat are increasingly rude and loud. Also, apparently this is a "tipping necessary" establishment. But this isn't a thing I've ever observed happen, or have done myself. But how did I find out they expect a tip? One of the regular cooks lives down the street from me and as I was walking my dog with my friend who always goes to Kwik Check with me, he yelled across the street (5:30 pm as everyone is in their yard or coming home) "Hey I know you two, YOU GUYS DON'T TIP." Wow, was really intrigued to see a Korean restaurant in Memphis. I haven't seen many Asians in the population here so this is definitely pretty cool. Interesting to see that there's a market for stuff like healthy ol bibimbap here in the land of BBQ and fried chicken. The vibe of this place is definitely interesting - it's like a cross between a deli and convenience store that sells Mediterranean and Korean food. I walked here so parking wasn't a problem but there are only like 6-7 parking spots depending on how well people park... e.g. right now there's a Ford pickup owned by the owner(!!!) that's split across two spots. Lmao. It does seem to be a decently popular spot though; since I got here at 11:30, there's been an okay stream of people coming in after me. Prices are okay. There's probably some kind of premium because there's not many Korean restaurants in Memphis - bibimbap cost me around $12, but you can get a kimchi burrito for $8 and a bibimbap burger for $8 as well so there are a lot of options. Idk why the Mediterranean stuff are here with the Korean food, but they also have reasonably priced gyros and pitas and stuff. The bibimbap definitely comes out impressive, sizzling in a stone pot!! Taste-wise it's solid as well. I have to say I was a bit disappointed in the quantity for $12 but I suppose that's me coming from a place where Korean food is plentiful and cheap. So nearly a year ago I gave Kwik Check three stars after a good Pajeon but a disappointing gyro with meat on the dry side. I have since made multiple trips there. It's one of those places where I don't feel underdressed in my yoga pants and it has surely cured quite a few post-inversion cravings. There is not much I can add to the universal acclaim of their Bibimbap. I like it also because it's perfectly sized. I have seen bigger bowls of Bibimbap in Korean restaurants elsewhere and they are just way too much for me, and I am not good at sharing. I didn't know wheat bread is an option for some (maybe most?) of their sandwiches until a fellow yelper posted a photo of the Ninja. I loathe white bread and Ninja on white is just not right. Wheat bread has this slightly chewy texture with a nutty flavor that will grow on you, or it should. Hubby had their gyro on multiple occasions and the meat was never dry like the first one he had there. It has become one of his go-to places for gyro in town. Their desserts are pretty solid too. Not long ago we had a slice of the plain cheesecake that was not too sweet with just right amount of creaminess and richness. It may not be as life-changing as the infamous $8-per-slice cheesecake but it's satisfying enough at a reasonable price. read more

Driving around midtown with an open mind, it lead me to this dive. From both the inside and outside it left me thinking the only thing that doesn't make this a gas station is the gas! Nevertheless, I was willing to try this Memphis famous "Bi Bim Bap Bowl". If I were to rate this just on the food, I would immediately give this a five star rating. However, the grumpy, and potentially hungover man, was behind the counter with a sketchy order on a receipt which deemed the service underwhelming. However the very Korean women that has to trusts that you say what you ordered at the cash register seemed fine, but again, very Korean. I see this place maybe better for to go? Anyway, we did find a nice seat at the counter out looking Madison Avenue. Also, it might have been just an off day for service. After a tediously long wait for our food, our falafel platter showed up. This included nicely seasoned pita bread, falafel pieces, hummus, and taziki dip. I did enjoy this very much meanwhile staying away from the taziki dip which isn't my favorite, but was informed it was tangy good. Then came out our steaming bowl of our chicken Bi Bim Bap bowl! It was really hot so don't even try touching the bowl which helps it to continue to cook while you're eating it! Even though it was hot in both spiciness and temperature, it was filled with depths of other flavor. I enjoyed how all of the components came together and found my cravings fulfilled. Since the rice is on the bottom of the hot bowl, it sort of chars and sticks to the bottom. However, I loved how the char gave it a slight crisp sweetness and found myself scraping the bottom for more! The hummus was great to eat in between to give the spice a break as well. I was surprised on how fulfilling it was, so don't worry about being hungry after you leave! I would either come back and try The Crazy Noodle next door, or find something new on the menu here, but I'm definitely glad to say I've gotten to try such a renowned dish! read more

The Bi Bim Bop here is #7 on the 901 Bucket List so I had to try it. We ordered a Tofu Bi Bim Bop, a Beef one, a gyro for my kids to split as well as an order of Vegetable Mandou. I came here a long time ago and I feel like I remembered the Bi Bim Bop being fuller in the clay bowl, but I might be mistaken. The only thing I didn't like in the Bi Bim Bop was the lettuce because I feel like that was added in to make it more American. I popped the yolk and mixed everything together. The sauce was spicy for me so I wanted more rice in my bowl to counteract the heat. However, it was delicious. It took me 3 bites of the Mandou to realize it was tofu and not cream cheese. I thought the pleats were beautiful. The gyro was huge and came with lettuce, tomatoes, yogurt, and long thin strips of the meat. The workers there were all very nice. Amazing place! It used to be a gas station but was turned into a a nice little restaurant. I go the bibimbap burger and it was honestly one of the best burgers I have had in a while. It is refreshing and filled with so many flavors and textures. The bun is toasted so you get a great crunch, the egg provides a nice savory and softness, the vegetables make it refreshing and add so much flavor, and the meat is seasoned to perfection. Every bite is filled with an immense amount of flavor that will get you hooked! Not only that but this place has an extensive drink selection from local beers to foreign sodas. My only complaint is that it does take them a while to make the food. So if you are looking for a quick bite I would order ahead of time. This is definitely a place that you shouldn't judge the book by its cover. You wouldn't expect from looking at the exterior or even the interior that this place has the most delicious Korean food. Inside, it's more of a convenient store that happens to serve both Korean and Mediterranean food. When I went, I ordered their Bi Bim Bop, and this was by the far the closest to the being the most delicious and most authentic bibimbap I have ever had. Coming in a ceramic stone bowl, the rice was crispy which is how a true Bi Bim Bop should be like. I ate the whole thing and was honestly craving for me! The COVID crisis has been difficult for all. Considered essential, as a pilot, I find myself still traveling the four winds of the earth and spending a great deal of time in hotels. The meal delivered from Kwik Chek this evening was sublime. The Kimchi was well balanced for any palate--not too spicy but still full of flavor--and true to the Kimchi I've enjoyed in South Korea. The Bean Salad was terrific. I hope to find a similar recipe to try and recreate at home; it's the perfect side dish. The Dolma Stuffed Grape Leaves were a 10/10. Getting the acidity, texture, flavor and wrap all correct is no easy task, but Kwik Chek did a phenomenal job (some member of the cook staff must be Greek). The half-muffuletta was huge!!! The half is big enough for two people. I finished off the meal with some Baklava, and it came as no surprise that it was terrific also. To top it all off, a hand written note and complementary cookie were included to thank me for my business during these tough times. The portions were very generous-- enough food for two meals! We have been to this place several times and while the food was never great we felt good supporting a small local business. However, today their food was below average and service has become very bad as of recent. The owner who takes orders is a very angry and aggressive person who should not be in the service industry. I witnessed her unfriendly attitude with several customers. She even went as far as to scold kids on another table while they were eating, the family did not know how to respond to her. The staff wanted to call her out on her behavior but she obviously has a temper and they want to keep their jobs. She keeps reminding everyone when she has a chance- "I am the owner". Ambience is lacking (you are basically sitting in a gas station) which if the food was better maybe one could ignore that fact. Im never coming back again. Advice from a fellow yelper- take your money elsewhere; there are many friendly small businesses in town that know how to respect their customers and need support. read more

They offer several different sandwich options that are completely out of this world, not to mention the BEST muffaletta sandwich that you've ever put in your mouth. I am so confused. What is this place? I was reminded of my first visit to Boston, went to some Italian restaurant (that violated the alcohol service cutoff time and somehow got away with it) with garish Grecian decor, Russian waitstaff and all Chinese clientele. If not for all the great reviews of Kwik Check I would only come here looking for the fuel pumps. It is a small convenience store turned deli restaurant. Go straight to the back counter to place your order. Grab a craft brew from the fridge and have a seat (they'll open it at the register and you can check out at the same time if you wish honor-system style) eventually a spirited Korean lady will shout an number of food items to the dining room looking for someone to claim them. I had a Gyros (of course, Koreans running a convenience store turned restaurant, what else?!). It was very good! Everyone appeared happy with their meal. Other Mediterranean items on the menu and a few Korean offerings to boot. Hipsters welcome (I think one girl had a tattoo, that had a tattoo). So weird, you must eat here at least once! We ordered the half turkey muffuletta & the bibimbop. my picky husband thought the muffuletta was a little salty but i thought it was good. the bibimbop was the highlight of the meal tho. it's even better than some korean restaurants. that red sauce is delish and that over easy egg on top just made it even more amazing. i also ordered a side kimchi which was just ok. i'll definitely be back for the bibimbop. although would probably order take out since the table i was eating at was sticky and gross and almost made me lose my appetite. which makes me wish they wore gloves while making the food. they also overcharged us by $10-15 so make sure you check your receipt or watch them when they're typing in your order since the receipt doesn't come detailed. read more
