Ordered a couple of gyro platters from here and they are definitely not worth the price. Between the portion size and the quality and quantity of what you're getting for almost $20 is ridiculous. The salad was wilted and there was a tablespoon of it. There were 4 slices of meat atop a decent portion of rice. I didn't realize I was paying so much for mainly rice. I'll keep it in mind for the future. The meat was dry, the salad was not good and the rice was okay, which is why I gave it 2 stars. I went to flames during lunch and it did not disappoint. It's a quaint, neighborhood restaurant that sits near the corner of Southern and Highland. I went around 11. It wasn't busy. I ordered a chicken and rice meal. It came out in about 20 minutes. It was SO good, especially the rice. I should have taken a picture but I ate it too fast! For context, this review is for their DoorDash delivery, not for in restaurant. That being said, I doubt if I would ever visit the restaurant given what I received via DoorDash. I ordered two Gyros with two canned sodas, and a Greek salad. The good news is the Greek salad wasn't that bad. It was actually huge and almost had too much cucumber and tomatoes and not enough lettuce. But I could tell based on the wilt in the lettuce, that this stuff was about a day old. It was probably sitting in some fridge, prepared specifically for to go and delivery. The worst offense though was the meat in the gyros. Both sandwiches had dry meat that was so dry it actually was curled up around the edges. I immediately tossed it without even trying it. I've ordered there before, but it seems like each time I order it gets worse. Today I ordered the gyro meat with the rice. The meat was so dried out and burned it was definitely not cooked fresh. It was hard as a rock. The pita that comes with it was rockhard which means it was old and stale.. There is no excuse for this. When they were putting that meat in there is no way they didn't see how burned and hard it was. I will not be ordering from them again because it just seem to get worse each time. This place used to be very solid up until recently (maybe a year). I have lived near the establishment and visited for nearly 8 years. The staff has changed recently and the quality has tanked within the last year. The gyro burger used to be one of the better hidden gems in the area but its quality change was the first flag. I love Flames! I have only ever had the Greek salad, sometimes with chicken, sometimes with lamb. It is always so fresh tasting and the meat has the crispy outside that is just delicious. It's funny because EVERY time I get it (probably 15 times now) it's always prepared a little differently- slightly different ingredients, proportions, etc. but I have never been disappointed by the food! This time I have to lower the rating because the person who took my money (who was also preparing the food) was not wearing a mask. I can't imagine that this is allowed under the current Shelby County guidelines. I had the gyro platter. It came with lamb beef meat mixture, rice, half a pita, a small salad and Taziki sauce. Overall the meal was a 6/10. The meat was salty and a little dry. The rice was bland. If there were more pita to make a traditional gyro sandwich the saltiness of the meat might not have been as noticeable. Since the pita wasn't heated from the meat it was kind of hard. The meat of this wrap was so flavorful and well wrapped. Nothing fell out of it as I took gleeful bites. It was stuffed with fries, pickles, chicken, and other veggies. Ordered takeout here today - took them 40 minutes - order wasn't ready. When I went to pick it up NOBODY that worked here was wearing masks I was SHOCKED and disgusted. When my husband said something to the man working behind the counter about no longer wanting the food and wanting his money back (the food wasn't even ready) the guy was rude and dismissive and started saying things like "stay Six feet back sir" (he was more than 6 feet away). Seems like this business is more interested in using COVID precautions as a defense against their customers than an actual defense against the virus. When I called GrubHub they pretty much said oh well we will reimburse. Everything was tasty although a few things were weird to me - both the hummus and the baba ganoush were creamy but bland. There was no pita to dip with it either!
