Spanakopita was not as good as the first time I had it. The phyllo was black on three sides. Had the mixed Shawarma. Chicken, Beef and Lamb. Dry as bones. No sauce at all. More rice than anything. And potatoes too. Basically a carbohydrate dish. Two little cups of what looked like Thousand Island salad dressing. The lighter colored one was very spicy - too much for me to add it to the dish. The darker one was also very spicy - just in a different way. Didn't add that to the dish either. First time I went there the service was so slow we couldn't stay for a whole meal. Had our drinks, appetizers and left. This time I ordered for pickup. The diet soda was cold. The food was barely lukewarm. It's pretty inside. The porch is large, attractively furnished. This place is smallish but beautifully decorated with middle-eastern tapestries and there is not an American to be seen in the waitstaff so you know it will be good. I am especially fond of their kibbeh and shawarma but their tea and coffees are especially delicious. For dinner I had the beef and lamb shawarma and my friend had the lamb shank and the cous cous. The lamb shank was delicious, made perfectly and fell off the bone. They have a spicy sauce which was delicious and actually spicy and mild sauce but I'm a spice girl lol. Excellent service, so glad we came. Disappointed this time. I ordered the mixed shawarma platter. When I got home and opened the platter it was all chicken. I called them. They told me to come back. When I brought it back they offered to replace it. After waiting 15-20 minutes another patron also brought his food back. When I received my correct order the quality was bad. The meat was dry and the carrots were over cooked. I ate about 1/3 of my order then threw the rest out. A complete waste of time and money. The restaurant gave comforting vibes on a rainy Saturday evening. There weren't many people in the place. Our waitress seemed very distracted and didn't give us good service. I tried getting her attention several times, but she never looked our way. There was a young male server who finally came over to help us. We all know Memphis is know for its barbeque. Well did you know courtesy of Casablanca Restaurant, its also know for some great Moroccan food. This has to be some of the best Moroccan food I have had hand down. The service was top notch and it was good to see a place in the South that had halal food and Muslims working in the restaurant and not just owning it. It is located in a descent/ good area of Midtown based on the surrounding houses in the neighborhood. There is street parking, but the restaurant has a parking lot directly behind it . From the owner jokingly telling us we owed him a parking fee for parking on his lot to the wonderful service we received, it was one of the most memorable highlights of my trip. And now on to the food: I ordered lentil soup ( it was hot well seasoned and fulling), tabbouleh ( it was fresh spring tasting oooh how I love great tabbouleh) and lamb and beef shawarma with rice and potato ( the shawarma was hot and tender, the rice and potato were soft not and not mushy. The tea was good. It would have been great if I would have asked for more ice in it. Our host was excellent, as there were 5 people in my party and she remembered each one of our orders. The price to portion was well worth it. They give you so much great food. My group is still talking about this place, so I know I will definitely be back the next time I'm in Memphis TN. Oh yeah if you love hot sauce make sure to try it and if you love sweet sauce make sure to try it. ....You can even combine both sauces for the best of both worlds. Completely remodeled from the pictures on yelp, this Midtown Mediterranean gem is welcoming. The music is genuine arabic, until they switched it to Michael McDonald yacht rock. We immediately had they switch it back to arabic music, because when in Morocco. The dinner was legit. Please taste the lentil soup. The Greek Salad was so yummmmy. Love feta cheese. (I didn't eat the olives. I don't like olives :) We split all the courses which was a perfect amount of food. The salmon entree did not disappoint. Our server Miriam was a delight to talk to. I think she was actually from Morocco, so she was legit. BTW, it was pouring out this night here in Memphis. So the hot tea was warm, inviting and delissssshhhhh. First time my group (of 4) ever tried Mediterranean and I'm glad we went here. The food was all great! I wish I had gotten pictures, but we got the appetizer that had all the spreads and comes with pita bread. I'm not a hummus fan, but clearly it was because I've never tried REAL hummus. All the spreads were all so flavorful. Our server was nice and helpful. My only complaint was that the heat was on in there (it was in the high 60s that day) and it made us uncomfortable. This Midtown Mediterranean gem is just the kind of place that is perfect for a weeknight dinner when you are work traveling through Memphis. I came here on a recommendation from one of my coworkers who lives here and it was just a perfect as I imagined from the pictures and his description of the excellent food here! The Google/Apple directions are exact as well (just past Marco Pizza on the right side of the street). There is street parking alongside the road or you can take a couple of right turns and park in a small lot. The entrance is warm, cozy and inviting up the stairs and the traditional decor. I started with the Best Tea in Memphis, and house made hummus and the pita bread. I mean just look at the pictures, you can taste it with your eyes first! It was sooooo good, I could have licked that plate clean but I have manned so I scraped as much as I could and took half of it to-go once my main entrée came out. I asked my server for recommendations for plant based diet and he told me the falafel sandwich but I am not too keen on falafel (it's a hit or miss- sometimes too salty, too crunchy,etc.) so I asked about the vegetarian platter and the vegetarian couscous. I ended up with the couscous plate after looking at the photos of it and it was just enough food for me to finish the plate. Very tasty. Full of flavors. Just the right balance of sauces to wet the couscous and vegetables on top. And there's no way I was skipping out on dessert so I saved just enough room for me wearing my tight jeans to savor the chocolate mousse. They made it so good!! And the tea!! The tea!! I asked my server if I could have a to-go cup of it and he gave me the large cup! Bless him!! You must try this place! But I love Greek food and a Sun Studio worker recommended this place based on its authenticity. So, we came and it did not disappoint! I've been to Greece and live in Glendale, CA, maybe the largest most prominent Armenian community in the US, so I know good Mediterranean cuisine when I try it. This fits the bill. This used to be one of my favorite places. It's been a couple of years since I had been back so my sister in law and I decided to meet there for lunch. We sat down and the young lady who was the hostess also came over and took our order. I won't even begin with the fact that she was wearing a sleep bonnet. Yes, yes, I know it's a thing now and if she was just walking around hanging out with friends I would have nothing to say. Excuse me if I don't want the person serving my food to look like they just got out of bed. The young lady took our order and the meal came out almost immediately. (I should have left at that point). We ordered the lentil soup, which was alright. Probably the better of what we ate. Then we got chicken schwarma. That chicken was so gross. It tasted nothing like any chicken schwarma I've ever eaten. It was slimy and just weird. The rice had vegetables piled in the middle of it. Who does that. The waitress never came to check on us. We actually had to find someone else to get our check. We spend about 60 bucks on dinner and left super hungry. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant really. Once in a while my husband and I will talk about select restaurants with longing, and Casablanca is one of those places. We were in town for a quick overnighter and stumbled upon this place on Yelp. We are big fans of Mediterranean food and were eager to try a new place out. Sitting on their outdoor patio during golden hour was the best way to start our dinner. We really love dining outside when we can. Their indoor seating was charming and well decorated too. To start, their "Best Tea in Memphis" is really just that. I have never had such flavorful black tea besides chai. The ginger, sage, mint and honey was the most amazing combination I've ever had. It's tastier than southern sweet tea! Enjoy it hot or iced. For our meal we shared the "Sultan Mezza Combo" because we enjoy sampling many items. It was generous for two people, and would no doubt get you full. It came with hummus, baba ghanoush, falafel, grape leaves, tabbouleh and pita. We also each added a cup of "Moroccan Soup." I'm really impressed with their array of menu choices. All kinds of meat served like lamb, chicken, fish, beef, and decent vegetarian options as well. We treated ourself to homemade chocolate mousse for dessert and it was rich decadent goodness. Love Casablanca. If it's your first time, the SHAWERMA PLATE is the first entree you need to try here. Other good choices are the lamb kebab plate or pita sandwiches. The portions here are HUGE and this is the main reason why I love coming to Casablanca beside the fact that the food is amazing too. Fresh ingredients, great flavor (the sauce they provide with for the meats is delicious), and perfectly cooked rice and veggies. Also, you will never go wrong with their tea. So good. free refills too. I'm pretty eager to try the moussaka and moroccan soup next time! I didn't want to eat the pita slices because I'm trying to lower my carb intake and they were kind enough to bring me cucumber slices. The vegetables were extremely fresh. The meal was absolutely divine! The layout and interior design make you feel like you've been transported all the way to Morocco. I love restaurants that make you feel like you're on vacation. They also have an incredible deck that has ample seating. Our meal was about $15 per person. The only challenge can be parking. I suggest you park on Madison Avenue.
