Lunch plans Tuesday 6/9/2026 took my retired teacher club to this awesome place. Our group was small but we had such a wonderful time. Service was great. The young ladies were very busy but still checked on us as much as possible. We received water promptly and my friend ordered a sampler plate of hummus, Baba Ganoush and spinach dip. The trio was served with pita and chips. The pita was okay. It was a little tough. I ordered the Santorini Gyro. It had Gyro meat, lettuce, tomatoes, purple onions, cucumbers, feta cheese and Café Med herbal vinaigrette dressing. It was huge and was delicious. It needed a little bit more vinaigrette for me. I took a lot of it home to enjoy. Our sampler trio was quite tasty. The restaurant is decorated with Mediterranean decor. It is quite quaint and very cozy. A tad warm inside but still comfortable. We were waiting for the server to bring our checks as we did not know we were to pay at the register in the rear. The place was very busy as many patrons stopped for lunch or take-out orders. I wanted to give a quick update. I didn't get a chance to get the gentleman's name but I had to come and give compliments to his service and his willingess to go over and beyond to make sure that I was taken care of. I could tell that he had established relationships with some of his customers and that is always nice to see. It is great when a business can truly be connected to their community. It was raining one day and he was courteous enough to help me take my food to my car and even opened my door for me. He is such a kind person. He has gained a customer for sure in me. I also want to say that their side salad is really good. I used to try the pasta as the side but it would always be so dry and flavorless. Now that I have had their salad, with such great improvement, I'm curious if the pasta has received a makeover as well. I also order a salad that had the Greek salad. It has feta cheese in it, olives, onion, tomato with a side of Balsamic vinaigrette and an Herbal vinaigrette dressing. I fully enjoyed the salad and that is saying a lot, because I don't typically do salads at restaurants just because I feel like I make better at home. read more

Leaving 3 stars out of guilt because the hostess asked me how our food was and I said "good!" The food was not good. The food was bad-- and overpriced. Wars have been started over less than serving jarred mexican salsa on top of bad hummus. the Pita was okay. even bad pita is still okay. I paid $15 for the Mujadara Special, which was a soggy scoop of rice and lentils served without the advertised crispy onions. Spices were good but I do think it came reheated by Chef Microwave. Girlfriend told me her falafel gyro was equally disappointing. side salads were about as lazy as a side salad can be. could tell from their texture that the tomatoes were refrigerated. Nothing really stood out as either good or truly awful. which would be okay if I didn't spend $50 for a gyro, a scoop of rice and lentils, and a hummus dip. read more

Been far too long since I have stopped by. This is a hard to find gem with limited parking but well worth it. Greeted coming in the door. Fast, friendly, and smiling service. Many locals walk across from the area offices. I had the original gyro which is just one of many varieties they have. It is huge and delicious. Came with a pasta side or a side salad but as you can see I opted for the pasta. Then I washed it all down with their amazing spiced tea. Delicious!!!! To finish I got an order of their baklava. Devine. Local family owned business at the end of a crowded strip mall. The challenge of getting in is well worth it. I love this place! It has been in the same location for years - which is good and bad - and the menu, as another reviewer referred to, is slightly gyro heavy. However, with gyro meat like that, how can you go wrong?!? It is ABSOLUTELY delicious!! Theirs salads are fresh and tasty, with a light and flavorful vinaigrette and yummy spices, the portions are MORE than generous, the service is friendly, but it is very small so be prepared to possibly wait for a table if you get there right at lunch hour. My reference to the location, above, is that it is in a strip mall and the nail lady next door has also been there for years, so probably no hope for expansion, and parking is tricky. The food is excellent, and service and ambiance are great. The owner is a down-to-earth person and will likely talk to you if he has the time. There are downsides. While the family-run restaurant itself has no issues and the parking is reasonable, it feels like it is buried and sandwiched between a building and the parking lot of a larger restaurant. Also, I fear the restaurant needs to better advertise to get more customers, and will need to have at least one more server to work during the day. It will be a sad day if I come back to Memphis and find out that Cafe Med has closed its doors because it could not support itself like it can other nearby establishments.. read more

It says 2 stars, but truthfully I would do a 2.5 if I could. Starting with the positive, the place is nicely decorated, the ambiance is chill and the menu has good variety. The food came out fairly quickly, ingredients seemed fresh and the owner was pleasant. Unfortunately and despite all that, the experience was extremely underwhelming. We came in for lunch on a Thursday, place was fairly empty. The waitress seemed disengaged and only interacted with us to take the order and bring/take the plates. We ordered the chicken shawarma special ($14), the Vista gyro ($12) and a lentil soup appetizer ($7). The shawarma was very weird and unauthentic, basically grilled chicken with a lot of herbs added. Didn't taste bad, but did not taste like a shawarma and was very all over the place in flavor. The gyro meat was super flavorless and we were not given any sort of tzatziki sauce or something to help with it. The soup was the highlight, but I am not sure that a small cup like that should be worth $7. The side of pasta salad included was very hard and old, and honestly we tried it and left the rest in the plate. To add a bit of sourness to the situation, when you get up to pay you are greeted by several signs that say that a 3.9% charge will be made for using debit or credit cards. I get that times are tough for businesses, but this should be advertised before the meal or on their website, not when you are about to pay. Ultimately, this place is hardly the worse "mediterranean" restaurant in Memphis, but is a far cry from any authentic greek food or from any good value. It would do in a pinch for a quick lunch for the many offices nearby, but I personally wouldn't return. read more

A hidden gem in East Memphis! I've lived in the area since 2004 and (sadly) never stopped in until now. Had the Gyro Panino and it was fantastic! Service was great, with the owner stopping by to introduce himself and see how we were enjoying our meal. Their prices are very reasonable, as you can see from photos of their menu. Had lunch at Cafe Med last week, and it was wonderful! Don't know why I don't go there more often, but I intend to now! The three of us came in around 2 p.m. and didn't want a huge meal, so we ordered appetizers. We had hummus, tabbouli, eggplant dip, and spicy feta dip-all served with pita (combo of crispy and soft). Each one tasted fresh and well-seasoned. I can't pick a favorite from the four! I also love their lamb gyros and pita sandwiches, as well as the spiced iced tea. I really wanted to try out a place today as I had a doctor's appointment. I found this place which was just across the street from my appointment. I actually had seen the name as it was on the list of restaurants that offered discounts for Memphis teachers. Since businesses are in hard times right now I decided not to ask about the teacher discount. I decided to go for the Hero Gyro and an order of baklava. They said it would be ready in 5 minutes and once I parked it was ready! I'm pretty sure everything had been prepped and they just needed to stuff the pita and grill it. Glows: The pita was stuffed and meat was falling out as I bit into the pita. The pita was thin, crispy, and surprisingly sturdy for all of the filling. The side pasta was cooked al dente and it just had a light herb dressing. It was a welcome palate cleanser for the spicy sauce. The baklava wasn't overly sweet, which was perfect for me. The menu has a lot of different sort of pitas, wraps and sandwiches which would appeal to a lot of people's tastes. Grows: The feta small was definitely the first smell that hit my nose and I didn't realize it came with olives. I picked those out so that everything was right it with the world for me. Usually, I feel like restaurant in Memphis cater more to the American palate so I didn't actually think the spicy sauce would be spicy. It definitely was spicy enough to where I needed to cool down my mouth with the side pasta. The baklava was a tad bit small for me. It was basically $1.50 per square so one order comes with 2 small squares. Overall, it was a great meal. I definitely have enough food to make it last 2 meals which is always great for value. The pita was great but next time I will ask more questions to make sure that I like all of the ingredients first before ordering. Nothing wrong with the cooking of any food item, just that I'm picky about certain ingredients. If I am in the area again, I will definitely try more menu items. read more

I have encountered not only stellar food here, but also stellar human beings. The harmony in this place warmed my heart each time. It may be a small, sweet, clean, out of America feel kind of a place, which is how it struck me, since I'm not from here originally either. Healthy food, delicious on my taste buds, and made with a heart. Good, quick service. Not the standard Mediterranean food, but their take on it. As others have mentioned, and as I've experienced twice now, the pasta (salad) is undercooked, so the noodles are on the hard side. I'll request a different side next time (I think a green salad is an option). I ordered the Yanni (had the Jerusalem last time - which is misspelled on the menu); the pita, babaganoush, and gyro meat were good, but the tabouleh was cooked with the meat - which totally changed the flavor of the tabouleh - instead of added to the gyro cold. It was bitter and I had to scrape it off, which was very messy. With that said, I suggest asking how menu items are made so you're not surprised vs. assuming it's typical Greek fare. Next time I'll be sure to have them put the tabouleh on the side so I can add it myself to the sandwich. read more

So i've just started getting comfy with picking up food at restaurants in the age of COVID. Its been a couple of years since i have been to Cafe Med and i was desperate for a stellar Gyro. So, today i ordered the classic Gyro to go. Got it back to the office...opened the foam container and at first glance i thought i was looking at a Rembrandt drawing of a Gyro. I am not kidding. This was art. Even my co worker said "That LOOKS like what you see in menus". I thought about taking a quick picture but the need to get it in my belly was too great and i jumped in head first. This is one of the best places in Memphis. We are regulars now and usually order the Spartan. We are never disappointed and never go home hungry. The chili was very salty white the pasta salad that comes on the side is full of so many dried herbs that they get stuck in your teeth and dry out the dish and could use a little salt. I had the falafel pita for my entree. The falafel was okay but you could tell it wasn't freshly fried because it was missing it's missing the crunchy exterior. We paid our first visit to Cafe Med tonight. They have no eat-in evening dining (in-eat available at lunch) right now (July 2022), so we took home a sumptuous dinner: a chicken special served with rice and whipped garlic spread; a Yanni pita sandwich with baba ganoush and tabouli; an olive and feta dip that came with toasted pita triangles; and lastly, an all pistachio (no walnuts) baklava. For beverages, we tried their lovely herbal ice tea that has a cinnamon taste to it. We arrived home with this feast of flavors, seasonings, and spices--everything was delectable. This is the best food we have had in Memphis in the last three months since we moved here. Did the mention the generous portions? We hope to return and work our way down the menu. I didn't care for the fact that they charge 3.9% for debit/credit transactions--as a business, these fees need to be calculated in your budget, not from your patrons. Cafe Med is my kind of cute little place. They have more gyro sandwiches under one roof than any other mediterranean places I have ever been to. I like how they play with different vegetable combinations. Last time I chose the Yanni Gyro which has gyro meat, baba ganoush& tabbouleh salad, after peeling my eyes away from the Trojan Gyro (with spinach, sun-dried tomatoes, purple onions & marinated artichoke hearts), just to name one. Not a fan for gyro meat? Try their grilled pita sandwiches, which feature your usual deli meats stuffed inside the pita pocket instead of between two slices of bread. I like the less bread/more filling looks, not to mention the nice grill marks. Not a fan for pita bread? They have panini with focaccia bread. Their baklava is a little denser than what I am used to. I like my baklava a bit airier and fluffier, but I like theirs for not being cloyingly sweet or skimpy on pistachios. Service is always wonderful. They lost one star to me for having one of the worst hummus I've ever had. How this fine establishment could underdeliver such a simple thing is beyond me. read more

I ordered the Yanni Gyro which was a steamed pita stuffed with gyro meat, topped with babaganoush and tabouli salad. It was excellent. Probably one of my favorite things to ever eat. I love babaganoush and tabouli alone. These were both very well made here. Altogether it was a fabulous combination. My beau ordered the chicken Caesar wrap which was a steamed pita stuffed with chicken and topped with lettuce, tomato, bell pepper, mushrooms, Parmesan, and Caesar dressing. He said it was "pretty good." Man speak for he'd "probably order it next visit." The pitas came with sides of pasta salad. It was rotini pasta sprinkled with dried herbs, which made it rather dry and the pasta itself was mushy. That's the only reason I took away a star. Next time I would ask for a substitution or even go without a side as the gyro is huge. I will definitely be back. I want to try an appetizer next time. read more
