Went to Kwando's today for dinner, which is a craps shoot whether the food is fresh, fresh hot, fresh warm, fresh cold, old, or just old nasty! 85% of the time its just old nasty all of the time! well today the food was okay, would say it was fresh warm meaning it was fresh out of the kitchen as i watched them bring it out, but the temp was not hot, so okay, the food was good, the fried baby shrimp were dry as always, but im use to that, the dim sum were really salty, but the rest of the food was delicious. now here is where my friend and i got stressed and totally upset. we ordered 2 buffet dinners, 2 diet pepsi's, and 2 waters, the waiter walked by the table, took the empty plates, LOOKED at the empty glasses where the soda was and WALKED AWAY, a few minutes later, he walked by and grabbed another empty plate, and looked AGAIN at the empty glasses where the soda was. we were furious! so went up to the counter and asked for the manager, who came to the table with the waiter, WHO LIED TO HER! said that i had told him that we had water at the table and did not want any more soda... I WAS AT THE DAMN BUFFET GETTING FOOD AT THE TIME!!! when i go to a restaurant and order a soda, and its got FREE REFILLS, i expect a waiter to not look at the cup, and walk away never to refill it. If I could give negative stars I would . When walking in , the girl at the front was on her phone . She glanced up but went back to her phone . I was waiting to be seated , two other guys came up to pay and she looked up and helped them ...completely ignoring us still. When I spoke up she said she had to help them first . Horrible service . The food.... Completely disgusting. I don't know how long it sat there . The food tasted old and was chewy. The salad bar was browned and the fruit ....I couldn't even try it looked so spongy. This is actually the first buffet I've been to in Chico and it was delicious! We went for a family member's birthday dinner, we had a party of 7 and were seated right away! They even took care of the birthday girl's meal for the night. My favorite part of the buffet was the make your own bowl for the Mongolian BBQ. I got the beef with jalapeños, noodles, onions, and spicy sauce. It was really good and they cooked the beef perfectly. Overall, it was a good buffet and there was self serve ice cream which is always a plus! Most importantly, their staff was very nice and attentive. Would go here again. read more

Like any other Chinese buffet. If you're picky and expect a 5 star experience, you won't like it. If you're like any other person that just wants a place to eat and chat. This place will be okay for you. Food is kind of limited to options. But they do have fruits and other steamed food items along with sushi and their grill. I'd heard great things about Kwando from years ago. My wife had eaten there when they were still relatively new and said it was fantastic! So, being in the mood for good Chinese buffet, we decided to have a late lunch there. I'm not entirely sure what caused the downfall of this establishment, but it has definitely fallen from grace... The hot food wasn't hot and the cold food wasn't cold. The dressings for salads were all gross (at best, tasted like light versions of generic brand dressings). The food was all sub-par, and just the feel of the buffet and the rest of the food made me nervous about eating any of the seafood and sushi. Even of we had been interested in the sushi, our questions regarding what was what were completely ignored by the attending "sushi chef." The service that I've read such great things about was nonexistent. It just sucked! Our servers kept asking us if we want wanted a high chair for our almost 3 year old. She's well behaved and well beyond the need for a high chair. She wouldn't even fit in a high chair! Stop asking!!! Almost nothing on the buffet was labelled. The pregnant woman dumping the industrial sized can of peaches into the salad bar should have been enough to change my mind about filling a plate. "plop, plop, plop." The sign posted near the hot food warning of an added 15% charge for unfinished food made me feel like I was a child being forced to eat boiled Brussels sprouts or be sent to my room. Kwando's has to be my favorite restaurant in the world. Not only because of the endless Sushi, but because everything always tastes great. The food is always fresh, and the minuet you step into the doors of the building, your mouth starts watering. I honestly don't understand the reviews below me, saying this about how nothing is fresh? They change the food right in front of you, always. Over and over. And they have ranges on how hot and spicy you want things, noting is TOO spicy if you don't want it to be! ATTENTION VETERANS/MILITARY: this place offers a veterans discount on the veteran's or service person's meal only (dependents as well with ID). Kwando's is a decent buffet at a decent price. The variety of food is excellent and they keep the trays coming out regularly to keep the food fresh. The sushi bar is okay, not the highest quality sushi you will have in Chico by a long shot but most people don't come here for the sushi, they come here for the variety. You can have a dish prepared on the grill for you to your own taste as well. The wait staff has always been very hospitable, respectful, and helpful. I have never heard them speak a rude word to or about a customer. My three sons love coming here, it is their favorite place to eat when we come in to town. read more

My husband and I go to Kwando all the time.Just because there are no more all -you -can eat Chinese buffets anymore since New World shut down.Kwando has very nice staff, a good selection of foods with a reasonable price. Their hot and sour soup is worth the trip alone. The only complaint we have had so far is on weekends and when they offer their roasted prawns,well they seem to be a little on the dried out and tasteless side. But for the price, the vast array of food,and the overall atmosphere this place is definitely worth trying. read more

first, it was delivered. On delivery it was a bit messy, not sure if it was the driver or the restaurant. The pricing was decent and portions very good. The food... I ordered two different dishes 1) the general Tso chicken dinner it came w/chow mein and fried rice both were bland and tasteless, the chicken was good though. 2) the velvet corn, shirmp and crab soup..yeah tried it again bland didn't finish it. 3) rice noodles and roast pork and huge amount of noodles with some pork. It needed a lot of soy sauce. I just couldn't get over how bland their food was. Even at the low price, I'm not sure if Ill give them another shot. read more

We eat at a lot of buffets and this is one of the best. A lot of different dishes. Sunday dinner seems to be the best and priced right. There are always a lot of people which means the food is always turned over and fresh. Eat here often. read more

Like all chinese food i've had in chico, kwando's is seriously lacking. The spring rolls were chewy. The teriyaki chicken just tasted like onion. Seriously like onion. The chicken on a stick tasted ok, but was tough, while the fried rice looked and tasted boring; white rice with a miniscule amount of vegetables thrown in. The chow mein was primarily extremely greasy, limp noodles with a little cabbage thrown in. The wonton soup was clear stock with wontons in it; which, while the wontons were decent, the soup lacked any concept of complexity. The miso soup tasted significantly off. I gave it an extra star, however, for good service. Good service wont save the terrible food though. read more

Generally, Chinese buffets gross me out a little. The ones in Chico don't have the best history (I shudder to think about China Star), and they have seemed to be lacking in quality. Despite this, I tried Kwando for the first time about 2 years ago, after hearing that it was really good. My friend was right, and it is really good! I think the buffet is around $8 for lunch and $10-13 for dinner, depending on what night you go on. Friday night is what they call seafood night, and I believe that they charge dinner prices all day Sunday. Friday Night is the most expensive night, and I don't enjoy the extra seafood they put out, so we avoid Friday. Anyway, the buffet has a funky little salad bar, but I wouldn't go expecting to make a great salad. It does have lots of yummy fruit, though. There are lots of varieties of dim sum and the ones I have tried have been good. At dinner, there is always shrimp, some kind of roast, crab legs and I have seen lobster, too. On Fridays, there is lots of extra seafood, with things like mussels, oysters, baked salmon, lobster halves...just a lot of seafood. There is always fresh sushi, which is the only thing my husband eats while we are there. He especially enjoys sashimi, and is never disappointed. They don't have a HUGE variety, and I don't know the Japanese names for everything, but I do know there sushi is almost always some variety of tuna, salmon, eel, crab and they often use roe. When the restaurant is busy, the sushi goes fast, and you sometimes have to work for it. You have to keep one eye on the sushi section so you can run over and grab what you want. The Chinese food is good, better than average Chinese food. There is a lot of variety and they cover all the "typical" Chinese dishes. Some examples are crab and cream cheese wontons, egg rolls, spring rolls, sweet and sour chicken, chow mein, fried rice, pork ribs, almond chicken, coconut shrimp...and many more. The dessert is generally underwhelming, but I'll tell you our secret: We get a plate of the sugared biscuits from the dinner section, and then a dish of the ultra chocolate ice milk/soft serve-y dessert and eat the two together. Super yummy! Just a note- Drinks are NOT included in the price. We always get soda, and I think they're about $1.50 for unlimited refills by a waiter. They also have beer, wine and Sake (I think). We go here a lot. The staff is friendly and generally very quiet. The clientele are lots of groups and families. We bring our 18 month, who eats for free, and it is a great place for children. The staff is caring and attentive and always go out of their way to play with my daughter or talk to her. That means a lot, and makes us feel very welcome. Never again. And I used to love this place Never again. Where to start. The decor or the food? With a place with as much variety and sea food I would expect fresh ingredients, well as fresh as buffet possible. I bit into and egg roll and tried with all my might to pull a piece with my teeth. It was so tough I spit it back out. I tried more than 15 different things and they all had an old taste. When it came to the sea food everything which was intended to be hot was cold like refrigerator cold. Even the fruit was sad. The hibachi grill was cool but all that raw meat sitting out made me wonder how long it had been there as it was close to 10pm. The sushi was okay but the ginger is bright pink. Now for the decor. The seat are so warn down you can see what might be a gross regulars bottom indent and since the seats dip so far down you can see where the paint was started 20 years ago. Most of the booth seats are ripped and everything looks old with sticky table and dirty cups. To top it all off there was a family there with a few screaming children which is obviously the parents' fault but the associates let's them climb on top of the tables over and over and didn't say a word although they clearly could injure themselves and/or ensure a one way ticket out the door for the rest of their guests. After my fiance and I left we were so upset and worst kind of full you could possibly imagine. We're really surprised we didn't get food poisoning cause oh my word. Yuck. read more

I have been here a couple of times. The food is not very fresh and the majority looks very unhealthy (who comes here just for some fruit?). Granted, lots of dishes I like at other restaurants aren't 'healthy' but are much tastier and the quality is there. This place has odd music, a tv on with goofy tv shows and lack luster decor and booths that are broken and ripped. They have a 'hibachi' grill they call it but it lacks in comparison to Hula's. Kwando has a wide variety of food. Great soups, sushi, and coconut shrimp but it also has some food that will literally make your stomach turn. I recommend it if you have a strong stomach, but would not if you can't handle it's strange variety. read more

One of my favorite places in Chico so far! I've come here a couple of times. Service is pretty good. They always made sure to come get the plates after a while which I really liked. My family and I have been going here for several years now, and just love it! I have seen reviews from those people who may have somewhat weak stomachs, but am not sure what they could have eaten that made them sick? I have been relatively pleased with the quality, variety, and quantity of the food. To be honest, I have had better sushi, but not at these low prices. Also, with the addition of the grill, this place is a real bargain! My children also love the fish and turtle pond in the entrance, lots of fun to watch. :) read more

Sushi are very fresh and have many variety. They can even make the special kind for you if you tell them; no extra charge. If you don''t like sushi, no problem. The Hibachi offers many meats and vegetables choices. The Chinese dishes, ie. Roasted duck, salt and pepper shrimps, coconut chicken or shrimps, are delicious. Really a solid little place for such an affordable buffet. Great variety and it's constantly kept fresh and clean. The booths and decor may be a little ratty, but the food areas are very well kept. The dim sum station alone is worth the price of the buffet. read more
