Tonight was excellent incarnate. First of all, I was shocked to see how beautiful a Chinese buffet could actually look on the inside. From the beautiful turtles swimming in a tiny pool at the entrance to the beautiful and exquisite ornaments that filled this restaurant, from the inside out, I felt in heaven. This was more than a buffet, they had salad fruits dim sum and in addition a buffet full of an entourage of savory and sweet treats. They also had a Hibachi station and ice cream. I saw the add for this being the best buffet in Chico... I'm sorry Chico, this is one of the worst I've been to, it may not be fair that I'm comparing them to the others I've been to outside this small city but this is how I feel. They make sushi but they might as well not bother, I've had gas station sushi taste better. Kwando is an excellent buffet as long as you get the right dishes. The Sushi is fairly good and their Habachi grill stuff is very good. If you go at dinner the crab is also very good. There is a large array of melons and other fruits near the salad bar. Their are some really weird dishes that one probably couldn't find in many other places in Chico such as Cray Fish, Frog Legs and Jelly Fish Salad. I do not enjoy the chow mein, general chicken or many of the common Chinese dishes you would get at a regular restaurant. Kwandos is great for me because I stick with what I have found is good, there are some dishes there that are not really up to par but I avoid them and have plenty to eat. The Habachi grill very much improved the place. I have always had good service at Kwandos and the place is nearly always clean. read more

Having lived in China, the Americanized version of Chinese food is what you want. As for this buffet, if you get the food as it comes out of the kitchen, you can't go wrong. For the same price as other restaurants, you get one plate. Here you can get a variety that you choose and many servings. The negative reviews have no comparison. I took my family to eat at kwandos buffet on 5/28/17 And as usual I start eating sushi everything was good until I felt something in my mouth to my surprise it was a LONG HAIR in my food. I talked to the waitress and some other guy came and ask me what was going on and I told him the cituation he told me that if I was going to eat or not,I told him yes then he told me that he was going to give me a discount.....how disrespectful is to give me a 10% off my plate I got $1.35 cents off for eating food with hair.. They were talking in their language while they were looking at me,I know they speak English cause right after that one of the waitress was talking English with the same person that was preparing the sushi.. My boyfriend and I decided to try this restaurant. He loves Chinese food buffets and this looked like an awesome spot to try in Chico. First let me say the staff and service here was great. Every person we interacted with was so sweet and helpful. The food was not so great and the restaurant seemed a little dirty. We glanced at the wall next to our table and questioned the mold in the cracks ? eek!! The floor was also in desperate need for a good mopping. I grabbed a plate from the buffet plate stack that clearly was fully dirty, with moist caked on food still on it. Kinda turned me off from the cuisine just because of the cleanliness. The food was hit or miss. Some items were ok and the hibachi was decent. The soups were very bland and my boyfriend noted that the wonton soup tasted like chicken noodle from a can. Sushi wasn't too bad. After leaving we feared the aftermath of our risky dinner and hoped for the best by not getting sick. Chased down some shots of tequila and we turned out ok. Even the fortunes in our fortune cookies were horrible!! 2 stars for the hibachi and good service. 0 stars for the buffet and overall cleanliness of the restaurant. I went having fairly low expectation after reading the reviews and found this place barely meeting them. Typically when I get Chinese or Sushi I go to a restaurant (not a buffet) but felt like giving this place a try. Not sure where to start so let me just begin with my first impression. When I walked in i was greeted with a young waitress with a smile but quickly became pre-occupied with a tablet and literally never saw her set the thing down the whole time I was there. As for the rest of the staff they seemed to be in their own zone and really didn't look up much. Tried to get a smile out of a couple of them but wasn't happening but I won't judge them, maybe it was a long day? I then scoped out the place a bit, seemed to be clean but kind of mismatched, there was just something off about it but couldn't really figure it out but that really has nothing to do with the food. So we (my wife and I) were seated and the waitress scurried off pretty quick without any direction. We were not really sure if we could get up and get started and how the process worked since there are a lot of options. So we decided to just get up and took it upon our selves to start to investigate what they had to offer. First they had a "salad bar" that offered iceberg lettuce, some carrots that looked dried up, and a few other salad dishes that we couldn't really figure out what they were (besides the coleslaw). . . which didn't really make since at a chines buffet but what ever. Next we move on to the grill part. There was a wide selection of meats and some veggies. Only thing i was concerned about was how long the uncooked meats were sitting there. I like to think it was chilled and I am sure it was but none of it was covered. I think if you are going to have uncooked meat it should be semi-frozen or at least covered. Maybe thats just me. So we created our mix of items for the grill and handed it off the grill cook. Our dis sat in front of the grill for about 10 minutes until it got cooked because of other orders, which wasn't a big deal but we were awkwardly standing there not sure what to do. Around this time my stomach start to turn and grumble a bit but tried to just ignore it. We headed over to the sushi which i was pleasantly surprised. The sushi seemed to be fresh, cold and variety. I picked a few of the rolls they had to offer and enjoyed them. After that I went back to grab my food from the grill and sat to give it a try. I took a bite and didn't finish the rest. . . That is all i have to say about that. Still hungry I headed over to the chinese buffet part of the offerings. In general I knew of about 2/3's of the items available, maybe it was because I need to freshen up on Chinese cuisine or maybe some of it was just off. . . I tried to take a little it of a lot of it but really couldn't finish my plate. I did like the coconut shrimp and the chicken on a stick but for the rest of it i had decided to leave on my plate. Overall it was my own fault going here. I gave it a try and that is how it is going to stay. It wasn't that the food was gross, undercooked or old. I think it was that I have had MUCH better. I left not satisfied with a stomach ache and a bit of nausea about an hour later. Probably the mix of funky dishes and MSG. Would i recommend this place? No not really. . . UNLESS you are on a tight budget and need a Chinese fix. . . But still i would suggest Panda Express over this place. Hands down the best Chinese Buffet from Yuba City to Chico. They have a lot of sushi rolls to choose from, the Mongolian BBQ is by the best I've had and has a huge selection to choose from and the dim sum is really good as well. Well worth 13$ Definitely got my money's worth. read more

I have to give Kwandos four stars just because they have spicy crawfish! I love asian buffets and kwandos is as good as it gets in this area... The waiters arent very good and take forever bringing your check. If you go to kwandos before 6pm expect the food not to be so great or fresh.. however if you catch one of the cooks they will replace the old food and make fresh for you. I chose to eat at Kwando's on Friday night due to availability of Lobster. Overall, it was a good experience. Price is right, restaurant was clean, and food was fresh. I enjoyed the experience because it's slightly different from other buffets with a twist on spices and seasonings. I especially enjoyed the Hibachi section, which contained a wide variety of food. My granddaughter spilled her drink and the server was right there to help us clean up the mess. It does cost a couple dollars more on Friday night because of the Lobster. My family and I have been coming here since it was still Yumi. When it changed over I never particularly cared for the food. About the time they installed the grill the food started making me feel sick. On a few occasions I'd witness people get food poisoning immediately after eating, including my brother. There is a lot to choose from, occasionally the floor gets littered due to so many people in there but the food is pretty good and usually decent seating room. They have a hibachi grill that will cook the raw food that you pick. The hibachi grilled food was way too salty for me to even eat after getting it from the cook. Their dim sum and soup tastes weird like as if it's spoiled meat. Sushi is not cold and it also tastes weird too. I always get sick eating sushi here. Their hot food that they cook for the buffet line is also not good. There is no steam rice, only fried rice. Their fried rice isn't even fried to a golden color either. It is also very expensive to dine in at dinner time, which has the same food as lunch time. Customer service is bad where I only ate for 10 to 15 mins and the server already gave me the bill and said "thank you," which basically means "get out." We love this place! If there is ever a item in the buffet that looks unappealing (which can easily happen when people serve themselves), they will happily cook it fresh for you, no extra charge. Just ask if they haven't offered already. I was here last week around closing time. 10 min before closing, they began to scrub the place top to bottom! I'm serious, not just wiping down the tables but using soap, bleach, rubber gloves, ceiling to floor, pulling each booth out. This made my already pleasant experience even better. While the menu is not "gourmet Chinese food", I have yet to have a dish here that has disappointed me. read more
