Dined here Sunday May 17. Only ordered 2 items, but both items were extraordinary. Tempura lobster and tempura soft shell crab. Both were lightly battered with a sweet dipping sauce. I was surprised at how large the soft shell was, both were absolutely delicious. There are a plethora of servers, runners, and hosts servicing the dining room. We love going to this sushi restaurant! One of my favorite overall sushi places with good quality and flavor! They are a little pricy, but i still recommend trying them at least once. I go back once in a while for a special occasion. The servers and hostesses are all very friendly. There's a lot seating available. It has a subtle, low-lit atmosphere. You have to try their tuna crispy rice and shishito pepper appetizers! We get them every time and they are delicious! The wagyu tacos and lobster dumplings are delicious but not as filling. They run out of their uni often, so if they have any left for the night you definitely need to order some. They are pricy but are delivered fresh. They're always sweet and creamy every time. I love their toro hand roll and scallop hand roll. They have A5 Wagyu beef cooked at the table with a hot stone. It's priced per ounce and the cost can add up quickly, but it's a nice treat to try and share with others. The Chilean sea bass miso was rich and well seasoned. My two friends told me to try this spot. I made a reservation and I had a party of 5 people. It was busy but not packed when we checked in. We waited a few minutes to be seated. We were seated in the back by the bar and kitchen. Being so close at times it made you cough from the spices. I recommend not sitting there. Our waiter Christian was very nice. Got our drink order right away. I'm not a drinker. They have 3 mocktails. I got the Fizz cuz it has ginger. Loved it. Now the food, I was told the tacos and lobster dumplings were a must. I've been back a few times since my last visit, so Kuro deserves an upgrade. It's one of the few places to get artistic Japanese food in Atlantic City & I can see why it's USA Today's best hotel restaurant in America. As with most restaurants, some menu items are better than others, and I have a good gauge of what food is worth coming back for now! Hands down it's the Tuna Crispy Rice at $20 for 2 pieces, it's pricy but delicious. The tuna is spicy and topped with a little caviar for the perfect bite of crisped rice & melt in your mouth fish. Next are the Lobster Dumplings at $24 served with squash purse and nori butter. These are so decadent and will make you want to lick the bowl. I also love the Wagyu donburi bowl which is rice topped with braised short rib, onsen tamago, & jus. So rich and satisfying! The scallops $42 and short rib $55 are also very good but are a splurge. If you can get in on Thursday's or Sunday's from 5-6pm, they have a fantastic happy hour. I love that there's tons of variety with their discounted offerings. There are items for non sushi eaters & vegetarians too! I had the spicy Toro tempura roll for $20 and it was my favorite of everything I tried. The salmon crudo $12 was also very tasty with a good amount of salmon roe. The pork katsu sando $12 was pretty good, but it could've used more aioli. The gyudon & unagi don $10 each are both mini rice bowls that were very flavorful with tender pieces of beef (gyudon) or eel. For a drink, I had the Kuro Mule $12 & it was so refreshing & balanced with yuzu and ginger beer. Kuro is a place that feels like only visiting on a special occasion, but if you have the opportunity to dine at least once, or even more times, you wont regret it. I have visited a few times and have my favorites on the menu. The wagyu tacos being my all time favorite and steaks skewers right behind it. But this is a Japanese restaurant I need to mention that the star of the menu is the Omakase special platter. Everything is sliced fresh and assembled to perfection with an amazing presentation. Staff is attentive and the place is very well decorated. Inside of the Hard Rock Hotel, this place is one of my favorite sushi places to visit. Did I say that their sushi is one of a kind? The stunning surroundings are just the start! Service is quick, friendly and efficient. Our amazing server, Brian, did a great job of setting expectations on the delivery of our choices. Foods come out of the kitchen as they are ready, making for the freshest possible delivery of hot and flavorful dishes. There is ample variety to suit any taste in food. The Lobster Dumplings were delectable, the Wagyu Short Rib Rice Bowl was incredibly delicious and filling. The Mixed Green Salad is large enough to share, and was very fresh with a variety of ingredients. We ordered one bowl of Edemame and it was more than enough for the four of us. What a beautiful establishment! My guy friend has been telling me about this place for a while now and decided to treat me here for my birthday yesterday evening. For a Friday night, there wasn't as much foot traffic in the restaurant as I had anticipated and they were pretty flexible about the reservation time. Wish I could remember our servers name but he was cool asf and we really enjoyed his service. I had a generous glass of moscato that actually lasted me the entire night lol it was delicious; very fresh, sweet and crisp. For starters we had the tempura shrimp, brussel sprouts and lobster dumplings... Everything was so yummy; the tempura shrimp was lightly fried and paired well with the sauce, sprouts were hand picked and perfectly coated in balsamic, and for the showstopper--Those lobster dumplings were the BEST dumplings I think I've ever tasted in my life! They were sold out of the whole fish by the end of the night so because the dumplings were so good I actually ended up getting a double portion of those for my entree--From the butternut squash puree and nori butter to the candied pumpkin seeds and l fully stuffed lobster dumplings with no filling...I was in heaven. So happy we chose to come here and the Japanese cheesecake dessert was just the cherry on top of my night. Very airy and light to eat after a filling meal, and it washed down well with the lychee sorbet--Different but an outstanding combination. Last time we dined here it was a 5 star experience. We came back, and it was hands down the worst server experience of my life. We reserved a private room because we had a group of 10. Six adults (3 couples) a teenager, and 3 kids. We did this because they had no tables large enough for our group of 10. One of the couples with the teen, cancelled which left us as 4 adults and 3 kids. We had such a great experience last time, we were treating our best friends to this restaurant. But when we left, my best friend said "I've never been treated like that at a restaurant - ever." It was embarrassing. We told the restaurant we were now a group of 4 adults and 3 kids and they said it was no problem. THEY proceeded to still sit us in the private room we had reserved months ago. It was great because after Disney on Ice, the quiet of the room was perfect and the kids wanted to play dinosaurs in the corner and let us enjoy a nice night, or so we thought. It started with the server coming in and saying, "its just the 4 of you?" And we said, well there are 3 kids with us so its 7, but yes we told the maitre'd when we arrived that part of our group cancelled at the last moment. "This is supposed to be for groups of 10." We looked at each other, she was telling us this as if our sitting there was an issue even though the restaurant sat us there. We explained the emergency the other group had and she rolled her eyes and left. We were shocked and wish we had done something then. That was just the beginning. She came back, asked what we wanted to eat, so we asked her to please offer some recommendations. We said that our one experience here quickly made it our favorite place, but that it was our friends first time. She proceeded to attempt to tell us about the menu but refused to speak if the kids were making dino noises in the corner. She would stop mid sentence, look over her shoulder at them in disgust, and wouldn't continue to speak. We told her the kids are fine, to please continue. This went on where it was painful for her to speak. When we ordered, we ordered 16 dishes and 2 larger entrees. She was disgusted at this- "is your husband sharing your sea bass?" I said "no, he just ordered 6 small plates for himself. Is that ok?"- the other husband ordered and she said, "so youre not getting an entree EITHER?"- He said, "I ordered 4 small plates and 3 sushi rolls. Do I have to order from the larger plates?" Again, rolled her eyes and left. Every time she came in we thanked her for service and she literally wouldn't respond, and would look at the kids playing with toys we brought, in disgust. Her distain for us got so bad, at one point I almost said to her "listen can you find someone else to serve us, since this is clearly so distressing to you? Pull yourself together." But my husband wanted to ignore her and said lets just enjoy our meal and ignore her behavior. After two rounds of drinks, she offered refills and our husbands declined. Again, shock on her face, "So your done drinking?" --- I said, "I am pregnant and my best friend is nursing so we only want water and our husbands are driving so yes, they're done after their second round, is this not ok?" *EVERYTHING* was disgust from her when her blatant attempts to rack up our bill, instead of focusing on our needs, were shut down. You are entitled to a child free life if you so chose to not have meaning in your life more than yourself- fine. But no one is entitled to a child free world. And this is not a child free restaurant, and down the street thousands of kids are coming into AC for Disney on Ice. We are parents and allowed to enjoy an evening WITH our kids nearby. We were literally disturbing no one by letting them play dinos in the corner in this private room, and the management clearly didn't feel the need to remove us from the private room we had reserved. Your career is to serve and this wasn't service. It was appalling at every interaction. Very few times in my life has anyone ever treated me like I was trash and tonight topped it. All because we had children? I left her a 20% tip and thats wasn't a reflection of her in any measure -its a reflection of me and my respect for the food service industry. We will come back, but this woman ruined all of our night and we would never give her the benefit of the doubt and sit through another night with her again. All said and done we were here for and hour and a half, and our bill out the door was just under $600 for four people. We ordered 4 drinks and 18 dishes. And this was apparently appalling. Her name is Semei. I would dine here again. The food are crafted cocktails were still supurb. Not a single complaint about the food. But never, ever with this woman. read more

We came here to this very elegant dining space to celebrate bday of my Dad. Staff are very courteous and friendly willing to give recommendations which is helpful for first timers. Although orders take time to arrive we still enjoy this rare opportunity. All ingredients taste superb so fresh and meticulously prepared and cooked to perfection. I especially love the miso cod, ceviche and matcha cake. It would be lovely if serving is a bit more especially when you're with family. The ambiance is beautiful! Service was slow - From taking our order / bringing the wine (20 plus minutes from ordering and then wasn't cold which he told us and we still accepted), as well as bringing the check. The food arrived from the kitchen in a timely fashion once ordered. We were lucky to take advantage of the Taste of Kuro menu. We started with the salmon bowl and gyoza. Both were delicious! Really enjoyed the sauces! Then, we had the mushroom donburi and the tempura ebi. My mom loved the donburi and it was a large portion for a tasting menu. Tempera was traditional and good, nothing special. For the entree, we got one of each - ribeye and the seabass. Ribeye was perfect, tender and had a delicious sauce. The accompanying asparagus sauce had an odd taste, but was ok. Sea bass was also cooked to perfection, however the sauce on the accompanying veggies was a tiny bit bitter. The food here is absolutely delicious but pricey for not overly large portions, so keep that in mind! I came here with a group of girls, and we ordered family style. The two dishes that stood out to me the most were the short rib and the wagyu ribeye! The short rib fell off apart easily with a fork and had the creamiest sesame sauce that could make anyone cry. It was that good! The wagyu was also well seasoned and paired really nicely with the chimichurri sauce. I can't stop thinking about that short rib though! Lastly, shout out to the hostesses working that night. We had asked one of them to take a picture, which she gladly did, but she also went above and beyond. My boyfriend and I m came by on a Thursday night. Located inside Hard Rock Casino, not too hard to find. This place has nice vibes, intimate, with a candle set in the middle of the dinner table. There weren't a lot of tables occupied and that made it really cozy. They have happy hour Sunday and Thursdays. We ordered a couple of drinks, and the Japanese cheesecake from the HH menu. We ordered the midori sour, shoga, and the soju mojito. I liked the shoga the best. I feel like I didn't taste the alcohol at all... so it just tasted like a variation of soda! I tried the other 2, and I wasn't too much of a fan. Per recommendations from our waitress, we ordered the lobster dumplings (YUM!), beef negima skewers, pork belly (must try!) wagyu donburi. The donburi was mostly a filler, for trying out the other food. She also recommended the surf and turf, which, I'm glad we didn't get because this amount of food was perfect for two along with the cheesecake. The beef negima was meh, it's crunchy on the outside but the flavor was a miss for me afterwards. The pork belly and the lobster dumplings were a MUST try! We loved both, too bad the portion size wasn't bigger. The Japanese cheesecake was okay, we liked the sorbet and the sides more. The fruits, the almond and the white chocolate gave the dessert a nice finish. The bathrooms are shared with the restaurant next door. Kuro on the boardwalk was amazing. We went with the family and everyone enjoyed their meals. It offered a little bit of a flavor difference from the Kuro in Hollywood. Again I ordered about on of every vegetarian and vegan item they offer. For comparison, the edamame are a bit spicier and have a different flavor. The brussels sprouts were spot on and the rolls are always fresh. The ambiance is comfortable yet elegant, the surroundings of the restaurant or nice decorated and elevated a bit also casino floor. Just outside of the restaurant you find our way perfect spot to go straight into the entertainment and excitement. The staff are friendly and welcoming. Kuro is a great Japanese restaurant that use locally sourced and imported ingredients directly from Japan. On this visit they had a special promotion that showcased the sights and flavors of Japan's Cherry Blossom Festival, so my fiancé and I had to order a few items from their limited-time menu. I highly recommend the Salmon Zuke, suggested by our server Lauren. It was rich and melted in your mouth. Kuro's menu was reminiscent of the dishes served at Borgata Hotel's Izakaya, making it a great alternative. After losing $75 at the slot machines, we cashed in our moola and decided to have dinner instead. I wanted Japanese and this was a no brainer. Oooh la la...this place is ultra chic and sexy. We had the most adorable, bubbly and attentive waitress. Katrina was such a doll, she exudes happiness and it really made our dining experience that much more special. She came by often to check up on us. We started off with some rolls, Eel Cucumber and Salmon Avocado Maki. I loved it, It was fresh and tasty. Next up was the Mushroom Donburi. Omg, if you are a mushroom lover, get this. We ended our meal with their Ishiyaki Hot Stone. The Wagyu was $35 an ounce and you have to order a minimum of 3. I am not a huge fan of Wagyu. I just wanted to try it on a hot stone style of cooking. It was good but don't think it was worth it. Had we not lost $75 at the casino, I would have gotten dessert. read more

So that's what we did! My friend and I ordered: Lobster dumplings: comes with four dumplings and a delicious sauce! Yummmm Waygu lollipops: 2 of them. Great meat. Would have loved a dipping sauce with these to enhance the flavor or perhaps less sesame seeds to really enjoy the flavor of the meat. We also got the beef lolipops which were crunchy, only 2. This review is just for the happy hour at Kuro. The happy hour is only on Sundays and Thursdays and it is only for an hour each day when we went to the restaurant we expected there to be a bar however there is only four seats at the very small bar that is in the back of the restaurant so they sit you at a normal table during the happy hour. When we arrived, the hostess was extremely friendly and nice. We had a beautiful table that was circular that was extremely comfortable. Our waiter was very nice and the service was very good. My husband ordered a drink that was not on the happy hour menu it was a Hendrix and tonic and it was $18. I had one of the cocktails that was on the menu, which was very tasty and would order again. We had dinner plans later so we only ordered two small plates to have just as a little bite. One was the negi toro crispy rice and the other one was a Wagyu gyoza. The crispy rice was extremely small and difficult to eat and share it was just a bite very disappointed in this, but the flavor was good. The Wagyu gyoza were very good and I enjoyed the sauce that they were on. Overall, the ambience is great. Everyone that we met that worked there was really good, but the happy hour was not a good deal. We also really enjoyed the ambience of the restaurant. They're definitely other places that I would go for happy hour. I might go back to try the sushi, but it's not at the top of my list. read more

Had a reservation, waited 15 minutes to be seated, then they moved us to another table (no explanation). Ordered drinks, apps, and entrees all at once. Apps came out in about 10 minutes. Drinks didn't show up until 30 minutes after that (40 minutes in total)--already watered down. No apology. Another 20 minutes later (1 hour in), the chef sends out a second round of the tiny wagyu tacos(2) as an "apology" for the wait on entrees. Finally, 20 minutes after that, our meals arrived. I tried to use the bathroom--server tells me it's in the restaurant next door. Menu also listed "live octopus" sushi, so I ordered it expecting something unique. Instead, I got plain sashimi that tasted like wasabi. Nothing "live" about it. Meanwhile, I'm watching the sushi chef in the open kitchen build a sushi tower, stop mid-prep to take a a picture to admire his work, then goes right back to making rolls - i never noticed a gloves change. Went here with my boyfriend to celebrate his birthday and we enjoyed it a lot. We originally were going to do Omakase, but decided against it when we found out it was nontraditional. All the plates were shareable, although they were very small we ended up being pretty full by the end. The pork belly Donburi was very tasty but a little disappointing how there was almost no meat in it. The Wagyu tacos were ok, but the lobster dumplings were absolutely amazing! We also had two sushi rolls which came with eight pieces each, so we were very full by the end of all of this. I put that it was his birthday so they gave us a free little dessert too (even though it said happy anniversary). I came in here expecting to be blown away, as an award winning restaurant with such good reviews on Yelp, and really $$$$ not $$$. However I was disappointed. First of all, service is fine, they generally know their food and it comes out pretty fast, with nice presentation. The taste is where I'm having problems with. For one, the eggplant "skewer" from the grill section is just a mouth full of salt and then some soy sauce on top. My kidney is going to take a beating. The spicy soup, at my request be made mild spicy, great flavor, enough seafood ish, but the bowl was small; how is it $16? The only redeeming factor in this dining experience is probably the salmon avocado. Nice big pieces in sushi roll, fresh, not infested. The veggie tempura is a huge dish, well worth the money. Dark ambience, great way to fall asleep except the clubbing music playing in the background. I'm not sure if I would come here again. read more

I'm not giving this place one star because, to be fair, the food wasn't terrible--it didn't deserve a death sentence. But the service? Absolutely horrendous. The only person who seemed to be working hard was the one clearing plates. Our assigned server was shockingly inattentive. I genuinely started wondering if there was a hint of racial bias involved--he spent the entire time chatting with one particular table and completely ignored not only us but also the table right next to ours. We ordered sushi and somehow got sashimi instead. I tried flagging someone down for what felt like ages--waving, making eye contact, everything--yet no one acknowledged us. No one, that is, except for the busser. We ended up carrying the wrong order ourselves to the kitchen to get it corrected. And just when we thought it couldn't get worse, the chatty table finally left... and so did our server. He literally disappeared into the back and never came back. Again, it was the amazing plate-clearer who helped us find him. So thank you, kind busser--you were the only one doing your job. As for the rest? Do better. read more

It was our first time visiting Kuro and we are already planning our next visit. My husband and I visited with his family who have been many times and raved about certain items on the menu. We started with cocktails, which are categorized into 5 categories in the cocktail menu: Sweet, Sour, Umami, Salty, and Bitter. I opted for the ORENJI, which is peach & orange blossom vodka, lemon, st. Germain, grapefruit under the sweet category. As someone who loves a sweet cocktail, it was perfect. Not too strong, and grapefruit forward without being bitter. Since my husbands' family were taking us out on this particular evening, they led the way with ordering. We ended up getting the following (buckle up): Chicken Momo, Wagyu lollipops, fingerling potatoes, pork belly, and beef negima, from the Robata Charcoal Grill, shrimp tempura rolls, crispy white fish tempura, chicken karaage, crispy brussels sprouts, and wagyu tacos. It seems like a lot, but many things come out in pairs of two and portions are relatively small for a group of four. Everything was delicious. We left feeling satiated but not full. My husband and I want to go back and get the short rib and try the chocolate hazelnut bar. We also have to go back and photograph our food. I made a reservation for two at 6:30. We showed up and got sat at our table within 5 minutes. The hostess was nice. The overall atmosphere was amazing, relaxing, dim lighting. You can see the the chefs making sushi, see the wine wall, and spacious. We ordered spicy edamame (AMAZING), the wagyu lollipops (two bites but so yummy), scallops (the best I've ever had/cooked to perfection), spicy tuna roll, shrimp tempura roll, and spicy salmon roll (all sooo fresh and amazing). We got a bottle of Chardonnay for 50.00 (nice selection). Lastly, cheesecake was our dessert. Was light and fluffy...delicious!! The waitress was on top of it. Reservations are not timely respected, we had to wait 15 minutes before we were seated. The table that the hostess tried to sit us at was horrible, we asked for a different table. If you're looking for a relaxed ambiance this is not the restaurant for you, unless you're having your dinner late. The place was almost empty by 9:15 on a Friday night. Food was amazing, bar staff, Jesus and Alex, were awesome. Jesus's recommendations for sake, food and port were spot on. Both were engaging yet working busily. We did not have a reservation. We walked in and we were happily seated. We have been wanting to try this restaurant but never could because it was always closed. We ordered our drinks and they arrived promptly. I just wish there was less ice and more liquor. The sushi is fresh. Very small in size. Beef begins Eel avocado Spicy tuna Spicy salmon Tuna avacado Soft shell crab I feel for the amount you pay for a sushi roll, the roll should be bigger. Loved it! Very pricey but the quality and the portions were worth the cost and the visit. Staff very friendly, place is lively, and don't have a bad thing to say. I would recommend reservations though, especially on the weekend. We did not have one but were able to still get an early seating. read more
