The tea was fine - ordering was VERY awkward. The store looks closed on the inside - no lights on, no people, very quiet. There's one person behind the counter wearing over ear headphones and using a computer or iPad or something. Kids and I stood at the front counter for no joke like 3-4 minutes before the person stood up and asked what we wanted. I was wondering if maybe we had come in when they were actually closed. Maybe the person at the counter was someone's kid or friend who didn't work there and was hanging out? I've worked a lot of customer service jobs, I feel for these folks, I'm polite and don't argue or complain, I'm patient. This was too much for me - I feel like I'm bothering the establishment by just being there and that makes me feel so awkward and like an inconvenience. Was really excited to get some boba after my class but was completely disappointed when I took my first sip. The tea was fine, it did not taste like real milk tea, but it was expected since king fu tea's formula is kinda of weird. What was terrible was the boba, it was totally uncooked, hard, and made the whole drink unsatisfying as I felt the best part of boba tea is the pearls. I love coming here for a refreshing bubble tea. My classic go to is the taro slush when it is hot outside. I always make sure to get less sugar because the drinks are all sweat to begin with. Great ambiance. Also they have board games if you come with friends or family. read more

What to get: Lemon Black Tea What not to get: Herpes This is a popular international chain that is literally everywhere - all over North America, at least. And seems to be on, or near, every college campus. I really like this location. Excellent KFT location right next to J-Petal, which is even better, in that it's not a chain and has amazing crepes and such. What a wonderful Plaza this is - being able to get such good corporate Bubble Tea right next to such delicious desserts. The only other location of J-petal is in Brooklyn. Whereas Kung Fu tea is absolutely everywhere but that doesn't mean it's any less delicious. In terms of drinks, what you should get from Kung Fu tea is the Lemon Black Tea with tapioca, which is by far my fave drink here (but a lot of people don't like it), or perhaps an Oolong Honey Milk Tea, a Honey milk tea or a Taro Milk Tea. Getting hot milk teas really works here. Locations in warmer climates don't tend to make the hot drinks very well. In terms of off-menu drinks, I also highly recommend the Very Berry as a black tea and the Pineapple as a black tea. I don't really like the green teas because they come out too sweet but if you like sweet stuff that doesn't really taste of tea (like your mother) then you might. And the Grapefruit isn't bad as a green tea. My new fave off-menu drink is the Winter Melon Milk Tea as a Black Tea, because it magically comes out tasting like Sharetea's Okinawa or any Brown Sugar Milk Tea. Sometimes the drinks are well made, and the boba is soft and chewy, and other times the drinks are almost unpalatable and the boba is hard. The current ladies on the night shift have subpar customer service, and I've never seen them have any expression but a frown. I'm sooooo glad I can always pass by Harrisonburg knowing there's a handy KFT to stop in, and even get some work done. One of the only *real* places in Harrisonburg to get bubble tea. There are lots of drink options so if you don't know what to get here, ask one the workers and they will gladly give you recommendations. You can also choose your sweetness and ice levels to make it perfect for your taste. KFT as a chain tastes great and consistently delivers. However, this location suffers from poor customer service, understaffing, and quality control. The solitary employee working at the time I came in was very abrupt and curt. Both my husband and I got slushes that had huge ice chips in them, and it took forever to get them despite there only being us and one other group. Very neat place! If you've never been or tried bubble tea, I highly recommend looking at pics of drinks on their website first to get an idea of what you want. The menu inside isn't very helpful for folks who are starting in the dark (pics of drinks would help!!), and the guys behind the counter tried but I finally just winged it and tried the Taro Slush and "added bubbles" to it. It's like a milky frozen, sweet purple drink, with warm green tea in the bottom and giant balls of gel-like tapioca I believe. It's like nothing I ever had before and was sweeter than I thought it would be. The taro was described to me as a Japanese sweet potato. I wouldn't say it had much flavor (or distinct flavor I would say) but it was sweet & light & very good! Another tip for first-timers: when you get your drink to go, they put a sealed lid on it...it's intended to be used as a lid that you just jab the pointed end of your straw through. (No one told me this and I stupidly took forever to try to remove it and then logged on to review here & noticed others with their straw through it haha). Also, no one tells you whether you should mix up your drink or leave it in layers. Not sure I ever got an answer to that one, but I mixed mine as best I could. Total bill was just over $5 for a medium slush drink, so it was the equivalent of a Starbucks really - not too bad. Overall, a great experience, lots of fun, very unique & yummy flavor!! :-). I had high expectations for my visit... I came in for a lychee punch with mango poppers. Come to find out they were out of lychee, and mango poppers. I was forced to get a drink I didnt want and in a hurry. Inventory seems low and poorly maintained. The cashier was short and not helpful. My girlfriend ordered a taro slush with bubbles and pudding. Upon asking for mini bubbles on the menu, she was told they also didnt have that too. Once a taro slush was on the counter my girl happily scooped it up and started slurping away. Come to find out it was not our order, she went to the counter to apologize and the person making the drinks seemed peeved. We grabbed the correct and incorrect drink and sat down. The cashier yelled accross the restaurant that we had to pay for the wrong drink or return it per the manager. This would definitely be 5 stars, except for that my order is pretty regularly messed up. Staff is always super courteous and politely fixes my drink, but on numerous occasions my drink has been made without bubbles, it's been the wrong size, the specified ice amount is wrong, etc. With all that said, the tea is delicious and the staff is nice so I'll keep coming back.
