    Spicy Miso Ramen
    Kody P.

Wouldn't say that I'm experienced when it comes to ramen, but I enjoyed the Spicy Miso Ramen at this location inside the Dairy Market. They're located deep inside on the right. Meals are served on a metal platter that you can take to sit anywhere inside the Dairy Market. Spicy Miso Ramen was good! Definitely a bit spicier compared to other ramen's I've tried where they tend to dilute the spiciness a bit for the general customer. Ramen was also on the sweeter side too. The ramen also came with pork chashu which was soft and tender. Quantity was satisfying. Would recommend and probably pay another visit. Would like to come back and check out their boba also.

Big portion of Ramen and very good! The goyza were great. 4 stars only for the price of $14 a bowl, but it is a big bowl!

We ordered: Tonkatsu ramen - the charsui pork was done well and melts in the mouth with a good ratio of fat to lean meat. The ajitsuke tamago (ramen egg) was also done well and the runny consistency is what you would expect for a ramen place. Broth was flavorful and creamy. However, the biggest let down was the noodles. It wasn't quite the same taste and texture as the ramen places we've had elsewhere in the states (we have also been spoilt with tasting authentic ramen in the motherland of Japan). Because the ramen itself plays a big part in the dish, it's difficult to recommend this if you have already tried ramen elsewhere and have a base for comparison. For others who haven't tried ramen before, this would be a decent start, especially with the toppings and broth done well. Jumbo chicken thigh with garlic fried rice: the chicken was nicely grilled and the rice had a great wok flame taste to it. However, the biggest let down here was the rice itself being too mushy. Uncle Roger also says that you should use overnight rice to make fried rice and ensure each grain is seperate and cooked so that it dances in the wok! We sadly didn't get that experience here unfortunately. With above being said, we still rate this establishment as a decent place to grab your fix of Asian fusion, considering there isn't too many places in the area that offer such!

    Vegetarian Shoyu Ramem

I came upon this stall at the dairy market and decided to try the vegetarian shoyu ramen and overall found it tasty. My favorite parts of the dish were the chewy noodles, marinated tofu, and mushrooms. The mushrooms had a deep and great flavor. The ramen comes in a thick and sturdy container so you don't have to worry about the broth leaking. Overall, the flavors were decent but didn't blow me away. They also only had normal, small spoons out so it was a bit hard to enjoy the broth using the spoon.

The food was alright at best. Mashu Festival is within the Dairy Market, a classy little food hall. The food came conveniently with to-go containers after 10-15 minutes. There was nothing quite special about the ramen. The presentation was nice, but the chashu was dry. The chashu fried rice was a little better and an interesting menu item in and of itself, but it tasted reheated. Perhaps some of their other items are better, but I was not impressed with the quality here.

The flavors and ingredients were there, but my dish came with what felt like 1/4 the broth it should have. My friends at lunch thought I had ordered another noodle dish - as in one without broth at all. It wasn't a bad experience overall, but I wanted some nice noodle soup that afternoon and it ended up just being noodle :(

I hate to sound dramatic, but this was the worst boba tea I have ever had in my life. It literally tasted like dirty water with specks of tea. The boba was stale, hard, and deformed. The drink came out with nearly half of it just being foam at the top shown in the picture. They didn't even have the right boba straw since both ends were dull. Honesty is the best policy, and for paying $5, I expected something more--something good. Maybe I'll come back to try their ramen and foods but definitely never their boba.

I got the tonkotsu ramen. It was good. The food came out fast. Plenty of seating in the food court area. Overall, would definitely go again

I had the worst pork I have ever eaten in my life. I couldn't even stomach one bite. Truly the worst bite of food I've ever had.

Wait time from store to store is usually pretty short, but waiting for actual food can be 2 minutes to 15 depending on who you go to. For example, a son got pizza slices immediately while my trip to order and get Tom Kha soup took 18. The flavor is hit or miss depending on restaurant and what you order. I got a chicken salad from the chicken place and it was great. My daughter got fettuccini alfredo and declared it rich, but bland. All that said, you can't miss with the ice cream location. So, regardless of what you ordered as the main dish, you can leave with a smile and a waffle cone in hand.

We decided to go for a bit of everything with arepas, a burger, and some Japanese food. The burger was amazing and the other two were good as well. Most malls are dying. This one doesn't seem to be with the usual anchors and in between stores and…read morevery few cell phone repair shops. I only noticed one or two storefronts "in transition" and that's unusual these days. Charlottesville Fashion Square is the town shopping mall. Shaped like a large plus sign with the anchors at the main four points. JC Penney, Belk (times two) and Sears. The mall is on one level and is surrounded by parking. Most of the entrances will be through one of those anchor stores and there are three others that are not. There is also a spot in the back for local bus service. Other than being very well populated, the mall is in good condition with good lighting, smooth floors and lots of spots in the middle to sit and wait for your wife to buy her stuff.

As far as malls go, Fashion Square is pretty fair. It seems better already (as far as available…read moreshops) than when I originally moved to Cville three years ago. There are still a few vacant storefronts which always feels a bit sad, but at least one or two of them have signs that something is coming soon. There is a decent selection of restaurants, though I've never eaten at any of them. I do usually prefer an actual food court, to keep the food and eating folks separate from the clothing shops, maybe just because that's what I'm used to, but it feels weird to have all the tables with people eating right outside other kinds of shops. I think Fashion Square just isn't big enough to have a full designated food court area. Otherwise the main mall areas, bathrooms and stores all seem clean and well-kept. I have only visited the mall maybe 3 or 4 times, and usually for one or two specific shops, but it's always a kinda fun blast from the past to wander around a mall for a bit of time.
