Food arrived warm in parts, cold in others and the GrubHub customer service rep offered no assistance when I called to find out if my order had even been received. I came in with my parents for the AYCE hotpot and sushi. I do like the space, it's right off the street, and very easy to get into. Being Friday, we got the all day dinner. It's not bad at all for the price, $30. Nobody else was in the restaurant, so definitely good service. Our waiter was quick and very attentive. Food wasn't bad. There wasn't a super expansive sushi menu, but they had a good amount of rolls. I was sad they didn't have makeral though. For the AYCE price this place is tough to beat. $30 for both hot pot and sushi is unheard of with many places charging that much or more for just one or the other. Now that isn't to say everything is rose tinted here for the price. I do like all the self serve option from the sauce bar, topping/ingredient station, and the warming station that has some ready made items like braised pork belly. I can also appreciate the ingredient station being completely refrigerated to maintain freshness. There are also a lot of ingredients options to pick from with many I don't even find offered at other place so that was exciting. That being said there are areas I would improve. The ingredient station could benefit from having an area stocked with clean tongs so you can easily grab a pair and then pick your ingredients. I can understand why they might not do this to avoid cross contamination but also as it stand with current setup you have to trust that previous patrons aren't fumbling the tongs causing them to fall into the ingredient containers resulting in you trying to figure out if you really want to fish out the tongs buried in the raw meat to get a few pieces. I would also recommend they consider changing out any more freezer burn prone ingredients more frequently as the tofu skins had a bit of a fridge taste even after being cooked unfortunately. Otherwise the broth options were great and had good flavor. On the sushi front I thought the taste met expectations considering the menu options, but I have to say they did forget to bring out some of the rolls. This ended up working out in our favor because we were so full by the end there would have been no way to finish the other rolls that didn't come out. As with all AYCE places they do have a clearly outlined policy and fee list for wasting food so be polite and mindful to only grab and order what you can finish. All things considered I plan on coming back here with the expectation it might be just a smidge below in quality compared to other places, but over delivers on amazing value. read more

Into the broth, you pour in stuff to cook. And when it's cooked, you pull it out and eat. We opted for two broths - beef and tomato. And then it's time to load up a bowl from the coolers. Overall, this is a pretty decent AYCE hot pot option and is basically one of three in the Twin Cities (everywhere else is a la carte). I love the variety of options available and the fact that you can grab your own ingredients and dictate how much you want of each. The sauce bar is also pretty nice. I've been twice, and service is okay (pretty hands off) and the place has been decently clean, but I have gone during slower times. People do drop things but it gets picked up. Kung Fu Hotpot is a new gem in uptown, and a very welcome addition to the currently stark hotpot landscape in the Twin Cities. It's in the same space that Szechuan Spice was, and the menu still includes dishes beyond hotpot. It's not totally clear if this is a concept refresh or an entirely new restaurant, though all the decor and seating is very clearly brand new and nice. it's softly-lit by paper lanterns and lights and is an all-around cozy atmosphere. The hotpot is priced all you can eat at $36.99 per adult for dinner (there are child and weekday lunch specials), and for that price you can choose up to two broths and get full reign over the self-serve ingredient fridges and sauce station. There's a wide range of different meats including the classic beef slices hotpot is known for, plenty of veggies like bok choi and mushrooms, noodles and tofu, plus a surprisingly strong seafood selection including blue crabs, crawfish, and baby octopus. For the price, the ingredients definitely deliver in breadth and quality. if it's your first hotpot experience the sauce station can be a bit intimidating, but this is a key part of getting the most out of the experience. I'd start with either a vinegar and oyster sauce or a peanut sauce base and add garlic and other seasonings from there, but the staff is also friendly and I'm sure would guide you to make a good sauce if asked. I've gone twice and gotten both classic and spicy broths each time. Both have had rich and complex flavors both times, and you'll want both--if only to cool off from the spice from time to time. They also have a solid boba menu if you want to cool off even more. Overall, I'm super happy to have Kung Fu Hotpot in the city, and think it's a great option for a first hotpot experience or if you're a seasoned veteran. It's definitely pricier than the average dinner, but for me the range of flavors and experience of cooking communally is worth it. I can't wait to come back in the winter and look out at the lake street holiday lights while staying warm in a cloud of hotpot steam. read more

The food here is incredible!! I was so happy when it first opened to have a hot pot spot close by in uptown and now I'm honestly convinced it's the best in the twin cities. The spicy beef tallow is my favorite soup base, but the standard broth is also great especially if you don't do spice!! They have lots of great options for the add-ins and it's all always super fresh every time we come. The service is also super great and the owner is very kind!! They do this fun game right now where you get to roll dice for a chance to win a discount it's a very fun way to end a nice meal especially with a group of friends. This place was literally so good. I would go back 1000 times. Service was attentive but not overbearing, our server was prepared and knowledgeable about the menu and his own favorites. Broth was delicious, we got the spicy beef tallow and the original flavors which is apparently a popular combination, and they were both delicious and rich--the original was a nice and flavorful break from the spicy! The add-ins are all you can eat with a wonderful selection, including shrimp, actual crab AND imitation, mussels, tons of veggies, dumplings, marinated and plain meats including beef and lamb, and a WIDE variety of noodles--the ramen and udon were my favorite. AYCE hotpot in the Twin Cities is definitely on the pricier side (37 for dinner here), so I definitely have a strong opinion on whether or not it's worth going out for it. One major point in Kung Fu Hot Pot's favor is that they have a fully stocked sauce bar, which is an absolute must for me! Another big bonus is that they have self serve coolers for all the food. I am sad to report that the food here is not good, at all. I ordered this to try something new (my usual go to in Uptown is China Moon). It was unfortunately so bad I had to throw away my $40 order. The dumplings were the best thing I ordered yet still had a bad aftertaste. The crab rangoons were awful... the cream cheese inside was sweet and runny like melted frosting. So, my kids, niece, nephew and I came to this restaurant (Kung fu hot pot ) tonight. We sit down I order a couple appetizers (egg rolls, and beef dumplings) and drinks. Get the drinks I'm almost half way through my Sierra Mist and notice it's something stuck on my cup. I tell the waiter and he take my cup; never brought me clean up either. Ok on to the appetizers... Now, the menu lists the proteins for everything else except the egg rolls. Egg rolls come out and I break the egg roll apart and notice meat. I ask if it was pork and the waiter tells me yes. I apologize and tell him I didn't know it was pork bc it wasn't on the menu the other appetizers with pork specifies it's pork. He asked what else did I want I told him we would take the vegetable spring rolls. A couple minutes later the waiter come out with the bill and tell us the owner doesn't want to serve us! I responded with "ok but why?!" He said bc we're asking for too much! It was a teaching moment for the kids who were exceptionally well behaved btw. I remained calm and respectful and expressed to the waiter they could have told us we had to pay for the egg rolls and asked if we still wanted the vegetable spring rolls but yet we were asked to leave bc I asked for a CLEAN CUP and vegetable spring rolls(after the waiter asked what else did we want)! I can't help but think the outcome would have been a lot different had it been a white family! read more

I don't get why this place overcharges people, it said on the menu of $32 a person, and dumplings that took bout 30 minutes,& 2 sodas ; supposedly they don't have a liquor license, but why advertise you have beer ,& or alcoholic drinks if you don't have said liquor license; , the food , broth were both mediocre,& I would never go to that place ever again, the 2 young kids that were the waiters they were slightly rude , & didn't have good customer service skills at all.
