The Empanada are super flaky and light compared to others I've tried before. You can tell that it's freshly baked. The drinks taste good and not super sweet. The boba is perfectly chewy and soft. Empanadas and drinks are fire! Kaldereta empanada is my personal favorite. They are freshly baked and super good to eat right away. I did save some to eat at home and it was still bomb after heating up in the air fryer or even microwave. Oh yea, they serve it with their special chili oil sauce. If you can handle a kick, I suggest to add for a nice additional flavor. If you would like more, they sell it by the bottle. Found this interesting boba place in Berkeley and wanted to try it out. It was a nice place! Had the buko pandan drink. Like the taste but it's too sweet as a drink! More for desert! So I have one big complaint about this place, I am totally addicted. It is absolutely delicious and I want to eat here all the time. Their empanadas are some of the best I've ever had. The dough is flaky, layered, buttery goodness that is packed full of flavorful insides. I am particularly a fan of savory flavors, but the sweets are also delightful. I like that they always have a rotating special, and this time the special empanada was red bean and Matcha, and it was delightful! Embutido is also amazing. I am a huge chili oil fan and not only is their chili oil delicious but you can buy it and take it home with you which, of course I absolutely did. I also a coffee geek so I got a coffee and I found that it was really good as well which is to say a lot because I'm extremely picky about coffee. My partner got taro/ube drink and I stole a few sips because it was simply splendid. Lastly, I got to say not every place is gracious and kind when you come in with a noisy toddler and they were super caring and helpful during our visit. Stopped by this spot over the weekend with a friend and it did not disappoint! As a Filipina-American, I love seeing and supporting small businesses bringing authentic Filipino flavors, and Kuboba spot is doing exactly that. We were super impressed by the flakiness and flavors of the curry potato and coconut empanadas (they definitely do not skimp on the filling here), the boba was perfectly chewy and sweet, and the buko pandan drink was very authentic (would like a bit more buko flavor but just a me thing!). I also felt compelled to write this review because the workers went above and beyond, patiently explaining the menu and even offering samples of their baked goods. I will definitely recommend this place! Came on Saturday, right before they opened. They were very friendly and answered all our questions. We ordered a variety of empanadas: Chicken Adobo: it was good, but the flavor wasn't strong enough for me Embutido: like it, it even has some egg inside of it Longganisa Omelette: it contained the lonnganisa meat in it, but it wasn't for me Spicy Curry Potatoes with Peas: I enjoyed this one, but I had a strong curry smell and taste, reminded me of samosas Mango Cheese Cake: love it! it was similar to the peach mango pie, but with cheese cake. Kaldereta: I loved this one the most, super savory goodness The dough was super flaky and soft. It wasn't dry. They weren't stingy with the filling, you definitely tasted some of the filling with each bite. The empanadas itself was pretty big you can split in half and share with two people. I liked that they had a way to distinguish each empanada from each other. They had a label on the box listing the flavor. For example, the red chili flakes was the kaldereta. This was great because you can buy different flavors and still be able to pick and choose which one you want to eat first. Also the empanadas came with their chili and sweet chili sauce. We ordered a variety of drinks: Buko pandan with home made pandan jelly: it was good, but wasn't for me Taro with fresh ube wall: it was good, but not enough taro flavor for me, maybe i wanted more ube in there. Mango with fresh mango wall: liked this one the most, but reminded of the matcha mango from happy lemon with out the matcha. I felt like I wanted more mango in there. Their recommended sweetness is 25% which is already sweet, but I feel like I could have gone 50%. Maybe it wasn't sweet enough for me, which is why I didn't like it as much. They have a small photo area too! I super loved this! It's like the bahay kubo in the Philippines. Overall, will be back again! When I found this spot nearby I was SOOO excited to just have a Boba place within walking distance. I wasn't expecting it to be this great, it way exceeded my expectations, it was incredibly delicious! They have awesome, well priced food and boba drinks. They offer Oat-milk and other milk alternatives. Everything is made in house, no gross syrups and stuff like other places. I went for the classic Thai tea and it was awesome I can't wait to try more flavors! My husband even liked it and he's not a fan of boba at all! He got the jasmine tea with lychee jelly instead of boba and loved it. Ok and I know I'm gushing here, but I have to continue to say the service was amazing too. They were all so sweet, suggested great drinks for us and put up with my incredibly indecisive hubby with a smile. They gave us this awesome hot chili crunch stuff to dip our empanadas in - SO GOOD! So far so good, this place has the BEST empanadas! I came here a day ago to try it out and it has me hooked, I ended up ordering 8 more today. The crust is so buttery but not flaking all over the place. I didn't get the boba yet but I heard it is kind of mid (def gonna try it next time). Each empanada is 5.95, but if you get the empanada deal it's only 5.50 a person (6 empanada deal). I only need one to get pretty full but most people get two. I know a lot of people say this place is expensive, but compared to all the other restaurants at Berkeley I think this is a pretty good deal especially if you are looking for something on the fly! After a lot of taste testing the adobo chicken and hamburger seem to be the best ones, but the monthly special spaghetti one is also pretty good (kind of like jolibee spaghetti in a yummy puff pastry). The spicy potato one is also pretty good but you might need their house sauce for an extra kick it is also not very spicy (coming from someone who thinks flaming hot cheetos is super hot) Anyways 10/10 very chill staff they were kind enough to label which empanadas were which on the box and there is a nice lil photo op in the corner :) read more

For beverage I always order the Buko Pandan. It comes with pandan jelly that has a slight herbal taste (reminiscent of grass jelly) and it's so tasty! I love how friendly and awesome the staff was! It's a cozy, cute shop with a small table outside and, I believe, one inside. It's mostly a pop-in-and-out venue. The service was quick. I came one Halloween morning, and the place was decorated! There was a rainbow balloon thing arching in front of the entrance, some of the employees had a costume, and two little girls were giving out candy inside. There was a spin-the-wheel for prizes thing they had going on for Halloween too. I love that they have empanadas ready to order and creative flavors! I originally came here to pick up a boba drink but couldn't resist when I saw the empanadas. I had something with mango and cheese, and it was so gooey, warm, and, most importantly, delicious! Enjoyed a delicious beef stew empanada and guava tea at Kuboba Spot. I appreciated seeing the staff roll out and cut circular dough rounds to make their empanadas fresh on the spot. The beef stew filling was very tasty and was the perfect ratio to the pastry. This Filipino empanada was far superior to the chain bakery versions that I've previously eaten. I'm looking forward to returning to try their Chicken Adobo and Spicy Potato and Pea (samosa-style?) empanadas. We ate outside and enjoyed our meal. There are so many good boba places in Berkeley, but even despite all of them, this one still rises to the top. Kuboba opened only fairly recently right across the CVS on Telegraph and I've already went a couple of times. They have a great selection.of drinks with a Filipino influence and amazing handmade fusion empanadas. My favorites of the drinks and empanadas are the Buko Pandan with Pandan Jelly for the sweet, coconut taste and the Chicken Adobo Empanada. The savory empanadas are quite amazing and they also have some dessert empanadas with the mango and cheese empanada. Also, their chilli oil is great. I never thought I'd talk about a restaurant's chilli oil quality, but Kuboba's chilli oil is flavorful and just the right amount of spicy. On top of that, the oil itself is spicy and flavorful, whereas most chilli oils I have elsewhere require me to dig at the bottom for the chilli flakes to get the same kick and taste. It comes free with your empanadas, but I believe they also sell it by the jar. read more
